Wish me well. I have a 24/25 year old graduate of the Coast Guard Academy that wants to buy his first home. I have been working with him about a month and he found two properties he wants to see today. I made appointments for both. Then he told me he already had an appointment for one with another agent he was able to book through Zillow. That isn’t how this works.
Anyway. We see the first one at 4:15 this afternoon.
Thanx Kim. I enjoyed that.
And a tear came to my eye.
Not to be morbid, but it relects a truth.
“I can’t feel at home in this world anymore”
We are proud of what we are leaving behind. But she is gone and I am ready.
Morning! It is a chilly damp day in this forest and you can feel the changes of the seasons in your bones! And as Chas would say “if you want to get something done in September you’d better get at it…today is your last chance!”…..
In posting the obits of the men from my church, i meant to show the calibre of people we are losing from The Greatest Generation. They started out in families of modest means or less and worked hard and were well rewarded for their efforts in fruitful careers. They loved their wives and did not keep trading them in for younger models as some men do. They humbled themselves before God giving Him first place in their lives. We need more of them. We need our Chas to stick around as a good example for the younger generations which do not have many good examples.
But I do understand on some levels your desire, Chas, to advance on to the promised land. Some days I feel more than ready myself.
Wait, Lord, I am not done! Used to be my plea. I thought I needed to hang around and rear my children or help with this or that. But I flipped a while back and I am absolutely ready. What is eternal life? To know God. What an incredible statement and if He calls, I am out of here. I love my life. I love my husband and I love my children and I love my church. But when He says, Come on Home, no holding me back!
Meanwhile, eternal life has already started so I am satisfied where I am but excited for where I will be.
Well said, mumsee. God loves all those loved ones even more than us and we can release them into his care. That is something we all have to learn and hold onto.
How Should we Then Live is available for free if you have Amazon Prime. I suggested to my husband over the weekend that we watch it again (I haven’t seen it in years).
He sighed and is willing, but isn’t sure he wants to be reminded of how prophetic Schaeffer was. 😦
So DJ, at the same time the Federal Justice Department is going up against REALTORS on “price fixing” (most companies charge around 6-7%) iBuyers are coming in charging a seller 8% and other “fees” to buy their home. People balk at paying a real estate agent a fee but are willing to pay a corporation to buy their home. It doesn’t make good business sense.
One of son’s best friends is married to Francis Schaeffer’s granddaughter. Only God could make that connection. The young man and another friend spent almost a week with us at our time share in earlier college days over winter break. I cooked for the guys all week except for our one big seafood meal out. Son and his friend both double majored in English and Philosophy. Yes, we know God is for real. He manages to make divine connections we never could have dreamed up.
How should we then live is a 10-film series of talks Shaeffer gave in the 1970s. I first saw them while in college. Each video is about 20-minutes long.
I’ll see if I have the series still on VHS–if someone has one of those machines! I can mail. 🙂
Michelle, i still have a CRT television and VCR player. Does that count? I have been thinking about what to do with them. I researched anDC found some gamers want them
I can’ feel at home in this world anymore.
Mel (friend since ’62) is gone, Elvera is gone and I’m ready.
Chuck&Linda and all the kids are busy with their won lives now.
Michelle should send it to you, Mumsee! You have more and younger people to benefit from it! I would need help to get it set up and running and help seems inconsistent around my home. It has been several years since we have tried to use the tv and player and it might not be operational after all.
I have a pot of my lentil soup cooking. It will be good with raspberry bars for dessert. I think Art will get some leftover cauliflower and carrots with a few other things. This is a hodge dodge meal for him. He can dodge eating lentils🏃♂️. He can’t walk but he sure can run away from lentils!
Does anyone else get calls each week from Citizens United? The former director of thd previous administration’s office of managemrnt and budget gives an update on what is happening in the government from an informed point of view. I listen in once in awhile. Today was pretty good with talk about the possible government shutdown. Thought I would mention the group in case anyone would like to get set up to get their briefing calls.
What a warrior, Dj!!!
Now I am trying to arrange a day in Goroka for next Tuesday.
However we need a valid reason for travel – shopping?? eating out??
We are staying within the same province so that makes it easier. We will see.
Sumissions call for stories, 1,000-1,500 words, that align with Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, for a Guidepost collection. More details at Jim Bell Compilation Writers Facebook group page. Maybe Jo has a story? Peter could write about end of teaching career. Kizzie, loss of hubby too soon? So many possibilities in this group!
I had some more sparkling lights in my eye, so am sitting in a darkened room. They are gone now and I see the eye person next Friday.
Time to head for school to get a little more work done.
Neighbor (34-year-old teenager) knocked on my door this evening, says he’s hearing things in his head and just wanted to know if I’d just (actually) been talking about him ’cause he thought he heard me doing that. He said he’s seeing a doctor about the voices tomorrow.
The trash is out, some of the flowers are watered, not all. Tomorrow will be complicated with the 8 a.m. eye doctor appt (and dilation scheduled with that), then a story to write and dog meds to pick up. I was going to pick the dog meds up today but was held up by a quote from the school district that took forever to come; I waited and waited and waited for it, was assured it was coming, they just needed another pair of (bureaucratic) eyes to look at it first. By the time I received it and put it into the story, it was too late to get to the vet’s office.
It warmed up quite a bit today but it’s not supposed to last long.
Good morning! I hope everyone has a pleasant day.

Morning Kim. I listened to “I’d rather have Jesus” three times.
What hymn do you have for me today?
Sorry that fellow didn’t understand and undermined you.

Well Jo, since Jim Reeves has such a wonderful voice, we will do another in honor of Chas, since he keeps mentioning it….

Spider and I were trying to hide from each other. He had more success, naturally, being able to slip behind the shampoo bottle.
Now I’m doused with insect repellant to keep that pesky mosquito at bay.

So what’s the freebie on Amazon, is it that series in DVD format? I didn’t really see that either, though.
The audio book was free, with signing up for that service w/Amazon.

DJ, my wife shared a list of clever altered words she found on Facebook. This one made me think of you:
Beelzebug (n.) : Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
The whole list is pretty clever. They’re all words taken from the dictionary and altered by adding, deleting, or changing just one letter. See https://www.washingtonpostsmensainvitational.com/
(The page I linked says that it is not associated in any way with the Washington Post.)
