2nd. It is also my youngest daughter’s 34th birthday. It is our last race day. All American Futurity is run this day. I will be glad to hide out in the ambulance away from the hoards of people.
Happy Birthday to Rkessler’s youngest daughter. She is blessed to have you for her Mom. You are the best birthday present she ever received! Thanks be to God♡
This surely is a chatty bunch.
Good morning everyone but Jo.
Good night Jo.
It is Monday. But it’s a holiday, so there is no activity outside.
eems like I’m the only personin the world.
Sems kindafunny. but it ain’t.
Do you, in your prayers, start trying to explain things to God?
I do. often.
Then it occurs to me that He knows more about it than I do
But it helps me get my mind clear abut what is and isnt important.
More for my benefit than “G”od’s.
Again: I wan to thank AJ for keeping us together.
Morning! Looks like a jay swooping through the trees up there. Very nice!
It is a beautiful morning out there…the owls were having a “hootenanny” early this am….sounded like they were having their own Labor Day gathering in the forest! Hoot! 🦉
On our way out the door for a walk on this coolish morning in NorCal. The kids are already out playing disc golf. Family party this afternoon. It will be interesting to see how much taller the Adorables are; we haven’t seen them in about a month . . . 🙂
Daughter is back for who knows how long? Potential job up here, which would be great, but there are some obstacles, as always. Sigh.
Oh it’s a fine day when a Gamecock picks a Tiger!! I’ll let Paul know about this strange turn of events!! 😊
Floors are mopped, rugs vacuumed, counters polished and the bird’s cage cleaned….now it’s time to get myself together!! It is so pretty outside I may need to take a couple of walks today….
And Happy Birthday to your baby girl Rk…. 🎂
Praying your daughter finds the best job for her, Michelle.
Chas, I was just wondering yesterday during open prayer at church if the person thinks God needs to know all those details or if the prayer is just a way to explain to the congregation. Then I prayed for understanding, patience and humility for me. 🙂 I also wonder about how being on the internet affects praying for loved ones in details that are now online.
The older I get the more I realize how very much we need prayer and what a gift it is.
My labor on Labor Day starts in about an hour with an 8-hour holiday shift. Crime, breaking news, making rounds of check-in calls to police, covering all 3 of our readership counties — it all lands on me during those hours. I’m hoping for a quiet day with as little mayhem as possible.
Biddy Chambers used to listen to people spill out their prayer requests to her, then turn up her hands and say, “We give this to you, Lord.” There was no need to spend time explaining it all to the One who already knew both the inside and the outside of the prayer request.
There are 3 reporters overlapping today so that helps; I’m the middle shift but have a reporter still on from easy a.m. and another coming on 4 hours from now.
College son of our former photo editor and Mac whiz said he could take on the job — he’d back up the old Mac first as it’s not recognizing either of the hard drives I’m trying to use for some reason. He’d then transfer everything from the old Mac to the new Mac, we were tentatively set for me to drop them off to him this weekend (I have a work PC laptop I can use but I hate that thing). But I never had a confirmation from him so I may wind up having to check in at Best Buy where I bought the computer. Being in college now and moved out from his parents’ house I have a feeling he’s got a busy social life.
Best Buy/Geek Squad is really slow with tech work, but if I can get this one backed up to an external hard drive the rep said I could just bring that into the store with the new computer and they’d do the rest to set the new one up — so I could still keep the old one while they work on the new. I just don’t want to be without both Macs for a long time at the same time.
People, people, people everywhere. So now I am watching fashion. Bell bottoms and fringe seem to be the style of the day. LOTS of cowboy hats in all shapes and sizes.
God loves to hear our voices whether spoken aloud or as an internal whisper. He made us to be communicative as He is. He is perfect at it, but we are not. Still He appreciates our efforts. In listening to the book Digital Minimalism, part of the book discussed solitude and lack of. At one point mention was made that when we complete a task that our brains go into a default mode which involves our social communications part of the brain. The author did not say this, but I thought, that is how God made us to be in communication with Him, and that relates to prayer without ceasing.
I have been writing a review of The Tiny Kitchen Cookbook that I received through Netgalley. I got it to help in rearranging my kitchen for greater effeciency. It has given me some good ideas that I hope to put in place after Wesley takes what he wants/needs. I’ve had too much clutter in the kitchen for way too long.
Fashion trends have nowhere to go but in a circle. They may be “tweaked,” but they’re not truly new, in most cases. (But they seem new to folks too young to remember when they were around before.)
Yes, 2 Macs are a first world problem, I realize. My old one from 2012 (end of the line in computer years, generally) is pretty battered with the track pad and space bar only working 3/4 of the time. I hope to be easier on this new one which was on sale since the new(er) models are just about to be released.
Speaking of trends: anybody remember the sixties when we were headed to an ice age? We mentioned that to a daughter in law and she had never heard of it. She was quite surprised.
Wow. Chas went over and above the call of duty. He only needed to pick the game for the tie breaker and he chose all ten games. Thank you for saving m the work. Now to see who the opponents are.
PeterL
Whatever Chas did was unintentional.
His vision is so bad, he mey have to drop out. I really hate to do that because I enjoy the comraderie.
But my 91 year old eyed don’t work so well anymore.
I certainly labored on Labor Day. Now it is Tuesday morning and off to school. God gave me ideas, at a friend’s suggestion, on how to blend the two curriculums, old and new. Now to see how it works.
Realizing that one boy loudly knows some things, but really only understands basic English. He needs to hear lots of new words. I am beginning to recognize that look of confusion on his face.
oh, Chas, it is your 91 year old self, full of God’s wisdom, that we love.
And for someone who says he can barely make things out, you still won the first week of the Pigskin Picks. Impressive.
After Nightingale had showed us her photos and talked about her trip, Boy went outside to play with Gabby, so I had the opportunity to tell her that X had spent the night with Boy at Other Grandparents’ house Saturday night. She didn’t hit the roof as I had thought she might, but she was not pleased, either. She said it just shows her that she cannot trust X’s Mom to follow the rules.
Glad Nightingale is home and a good weekend was had by all.
I lucked out and just had to deal with the weather and union food give-away story, no crime. There was a fairly high body count region-wide — and a police dog that was shot — but the overlapping morning/evening reporters took those stories early so I escaped.
Spent my day talking to meteorologists. Last one told me we’ll get much lower-than-normal rainfall this coming fall and December, which made me wonder what that could even mean since we’ve had hardly any rainfall for a few years. He said it’ll be dry for the whole West, including Idaho.
Gulf states and eastern US, he said, will get above normal rainfall.
MURRIETA, Calif. – A police dog underwent surgery after being shot when a wild pursuit came to an end in Murrieta, officials said.
According to authorities, the chase started on the northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway in San Diego County late Sunday night and involved a group of armed robbery suspects. The chase continued onto the 215 Freeway where one of the suspects fired shots at a California Highway Patrol vehicle.
The CHP said the pursuit ended once the suspects’ vehicle exited the freeway and entered a parking lot. The suspects got out of the car and attempted to carjack another vehicle when the police dog was struck by gunfire.
The police dog was rushed to a veterinary hospital where he underwent surgery. The dog is expected to make a full recovery.
I expected to see a new thread up. But didn’t.
I expected to see some cars roll by this morning. But no cars.
Everything is quiet around here.
I may be the only person in the world.
Think I’ll turn jon the TV and see.
First!
🏈 Find out who the first Pigskin Pick winner is. 🏈
