The behind-the-scenes strategy offered by Chris Cuomo, who anchors CNN’s 9 p.m. nightly newscast, cuts against the widely accepted norm in journalism that those reporting the news should not be involved in politics.
“If you are actively advising a politician in trouble while being an on-air host on a news network, that’s not okay,” said Nicholas Lemann, a professor at Columbia Journalism School and a New Yorker staff writer.
I always thought Chris was (marginally) the smarter of the Cuomo boys, but between his grasp of “cancel culture” and the fact that he was apparently participating in conference calls multiple people without expecting his involvement to eventually leak, that theory is being tested today. “Cancel culture” is when you’re a random nobody who says something unpopular on Twitter and suddenly has a mob of irate leftists phoning your boss to demand your firing. “Cancel culture” is *not* the governor of New York being investigated for various forms of sexual misconduct against his women deputies.
CNN acknowledged to WaPo that it was “inappropriate” for Cuomo to have had an undisclosed role in shaping a news development that his colleagues were covering and that he’s promised not to do it again, cross his heart and hope to die. But … they’re not punishing him for it, which is inexplicable to me unless one of two things is true. Also, I'll just periodically note how few people under 55 are watching MSNBC (other than Maddow), and how few people of any age are watching CNN even in prime-time, because the numbers are truly shocking.

The program monitors, scans, and collects information on social media postings considered “inflammatory” enough to pass along to other government agencies. It includes posts promoting the coordination and planning of upcoming political demonstrations.
The program’s existence came out after the news outlet obtained a copy of a March USPS bulletin that was “distributed through the Department of Homeland Security’s fusion centers.” It warned of the possibility of violence at upcoming protests though they acknowledged they had no reliable intelligence to suggest any alleged threats were legitimate:
“Analysts with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) Internet Covert Operations Program (iCOP) monitored significant activity regarding planned protests occurring internationally and domestically on March 20, 2021,” says the March 16 government bulletin, marked as “law enforcement sensitive” and distributed through the Department of Homeland Security’s fusion centers. “Locations and times have been identified for these protests, which are being distributed online across multiple social media platforms, to include right-wing leaning Parler and Telegram accounts.”

The bulletin includes screenshots of posts about the protests from Facebook, Parler, Telegram and other social media sites. “iCOP analysts are currently monitoring these social media channels for any potential threats stemming from the scheduled protests and will disseminate intelligence updates as needed,” the bulletin says.
The report about the previously unknown iCOP sparked an outcry among Congressional Republicans. A House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing was held a week later where a USPS official confirmed its existence without going into a lot of detail:
USPS Chief Postal Inspector Gary Barksdale confirmed to lawmakers that the agency is running a shadowy operation dubbed the Internet Covert Operations Program, which tracks “inflammatory” posts on Facebook, Parler and other sites, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) told The Daily Mail.
Barksdale told the House Oversight and Reform Committee that the initiative has netted no arrests and will continue despite privacy concerns, which arose after the program was revealed publicly last week, the outlet reported.
Barksdale said the operation — which reports threatening posts to local and federal law enforcement — is overseen by a USPS executive. But he claimed it’s not a real “program” because it’s “incident-related,” not an ongoing initiative, according to the outlet.
This week, Yahoo News filed a new report detailing more information they’d learned about iCOP. The outlet noted that “the program is much broader in scope than previously known”:

A resolution passed Wednesday 252-175 by the House, with 35 Republicans joining the Democrats, creates a commission to “investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the Jan. 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex,” as laid out by a “Dear Colleague” letter from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Three words in the letter – domestic terrorist attack – make it clear that the outcome has already been determined.
A particularly fitting definition of “show trials” is found on Wikipedia, which says they “tend to be retributive rather than corrective and they are also conducted for propagandistic purposes.” Retribution and propaganda are exactly what the Democrats are seeking.
But here are some facts that the Democrats are up against: The incident on Jan. 6 was an insurrection, a domestic terrorist attack, only in the perverted minds of power-hungry Democrats and their media apparatchiks. The offenders were guilty of no more than trespassing, scuffling with authorities, vandalism, and apparently some instances of theft. They were not armed with guns or explosives. The government was never in danger of being overcome. There was no plan to take hostages.
If swarming into the Capitol was a riot, it pales in comparison to the Black Lives Matter and Antifa rampages that not everyone lived through last summer (because their lives were taken by the “mostly peaceful” “demonstrators” who were aided and abetted by Democrats).
The only person killed at the U.S. Capitol was the unarmed Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, shot by a still-unnamed federal agent. The other deaths were either accidental or from natural causes. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick did not die at the hands of an insurrectionist who hit him with a fire extinguisher, a narrative the media pushed until it couldn’t. He passed away a day later from two strokes, with no external or internal injuries.
We also know, as Roger Simon points out in his Wednesday Epoch Times column, that videos show some Capitol police officers “waving the demonstrators through … into the building as if it were a national holiday and they were rubbernecking tourists from Kansas.”
Given the facts, and forgetting the fiction, those who continue to call it an insurrection are either dishonest to further a political agenda or woefully uninformed.
Of course the Democrats, cynical and morally corrupt as ever, see Jan. 6 as an opportunity to further gaslight (dare we say “brainwash”?) the country into believing the Republican Party, Trump, and their supporters are a genuine threat to the nation. The commission is another stamp on the Democrats’ ticket to ever-greater, and, they hope, permanent political power.”

(RNS) — On Monday, the first day of early registration, Justine Lieberman logged on to her computer and signed up for four days of camp.
She’d been waiting for this moment for more than a year after the coronavirus scuttled her plans last summer.
But unlike many other campers across the country, Lieberman is not a kid, and she is well past her teens.
At 28, she’s a Los Angeles-based real estate agent, single and eager to meet new people, learn new skills and have fun.
“I enjoy being around people who are my age,” said Lieberman. “For me, it’s four days of fun without the pressure of planning it. I feel like a camper again, and I love that feeling.”
Five days in, registration for some sessions is more than halfway full for Trybal Gatherings, a five-year-old organization that offers camp for Jewish grownups. The idea is to reconnect 20- and 30-year-olds with other Jews their age at a time when many skip any kind of religious institutional connection. …
… Most of the participants at Trybal don’t belong to a synagogue and are not especially attached to Jewish devotional practices. But they want to hold on to cultural Jewish touch points — camp being the most meaningful among them. …

Cable news ratings are dropping — thats a good thing. People tune into cable news when they are uncertain or worried and need information to feel in control. Biden is boring, life is normal so no need to turn into cable news.
Its a bit amusing to read that Democrats should embrace the Maricopa county recount if only to prove that there’s nothing amiss with the election, despite the gong show this recount has been. Meanwhile, Republicans are reluctant to embrace a bipartisan commission to look at Jan 6th. If its only some tourists wandering around and trespassing, then why worry, they should embrace it if only to prove there was nothing amiss with the protests and to prove they are right its not an insurrection. Have to love the Republican Rep who said it was merely some unruly tourists when the pictures of him on Jan 6th shows he thought it was more than tourists. I’m still wondering how the Pence family dinner will look like as the elder Pence decided there was no need to investigate a protest/insurrection which built a noose for his younger brother. Honestly, the commission is needed only if to find out why the national guard requested by the mayor was refused by the DoD. An other indication DC should in charge of it self ie statehood. — love their license plate — no taxation without representation.

Oh and how is Biden supposed to prevent the Germans and Russians from building a pipeline and why should he? I thought Trump supporters were in favour of isolationism. I have to love the press secretary; a common technique of biased reporters is to say “some people say” or “there’s talk/concern”. Each time she hears this she immediately says, “who says this” or “there is? from who?” This forces the reporter to be more clear, specific and to put out the evidence. And normally they have nothing.
