Prayer Requests 4-16-21

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Let’s continue to pray for Debra and her husband.

Psalm 63

You, God, are my God,
    earnestly I seek you;
   I thirst for you,
    my whole being longs for you,
   in a dry and parched land
    where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary
    and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
    and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
    with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you;
    I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
    I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
    your right hand upholds me.

Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;
    they will go down to the depths of the earth.
10 They will be given over to the sword
    and become food for jackals.

11 But the king will rejoice in God;
    all who swear by God will glory in him,
    while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

  1. Chas,

    I don’t know much, but Debra posted these…..

    “Please pray for my Husband. He’s been in the hospital for several days. His oxygen numbers haven’t stabilized. The dr said he’s using twice as much now as he was when he first came. I just talked to him and he’s no longer confident he’ll leave the hospital. I’m getting scarred for him.”

    ——

    “Thank you so much for your continued prayers. They matter so much. Husbands oxygen numbers are going in the wrong direction. For the first time they’ve mentioned the possibility of putting him in ICU if what they’re trying now doesn’t work. Husband is balking at ICU because of some of the procedures they are considering, and now they are talking about DNR orders. The next few days are crucial.”

  2. Mumsee wrote this late last night on yesterday’s prayer thread:

    “Debra is doing well, she is strong and appreciates our prayers and is trusting God. Her husband is being strong as well and appears to be stabilizing and we need to continue praying.”

  3. Does not mean he is out of the woods, at all, by the way. Just that the numbers were appearing to stabilize. We continue to pray.

    And praying for DJ and her neighbor. Dj continues to be swamped with the reality of death on top of her other stresses. Praying for the comfort of knowing God to permeate through all of this.

  5. You’re welcome, AJ.

    Continuing in prayer for Debra and husband, and their family.

    My request is so minor in comparison to Debra’s and others’ recent or ongoing situations, I hesitate to even say it, but I’d appreciate prayers for peace this week and going forward with a certain matter that is troubling me today.

    Wednesday I “resigned” from a volunteer position I hold. I knew without a doubt it was the right thing to do and the right time to do it. I felt an instant sense of relief when I sent my “stepping down” email to the two people with whom I worked the closest on the project, and they both reacted with tremendous understanding and support of my decision.

    But now… I have this unsettled feeling I can’t define, despite still being convicted I did the right thing. It might simply be because there are a few loose ends to still wrap up, and carrying them out will bring the necessary closure and lead to peace, but it could be a matter of discomfort with having said no to something I had said yes to three years ago.

    Anyway, whatever is behind my unsettled feeling, I would appreciate prayers for wisdom and God’s peace. Thanks much.

  6. Our God is big enough to care about the “small” things, Six. And everything has a season. For me, I keep thinking (as does husband) we could do a bit more foster care…..but perhaps that is done for us.

  7. So, since I brought it up. We would be happy to do more foster care, if they are willing to waive our need to go through training again. If God wants us to do it, we are here. Prayer appreciated.

  8. Lifting your need 6, to the Lord. Peace is big business to Him.

    Please pray for Wesley waiting to hear from applications for a fall teaching position. Schools continue to wait and see what enrollment will be before opening positions so it gets to be bite your nails time for all those in competition for the few available positions with full benefits. Plenty of those adjuncting positions without benefits exist as a fall back.

  9. Praying.

    And thank you for the prayers for my neighbor, it didn’t sound like things were going easily so far, little movement on her right side (she went in Saturday night but nothing showed on the scan so they sent her home; she was back by Monday — I don’t understand why they wouldn’t have kept her overnight Saturday, it makes such a big difference when strokes are caught as early as possible).

    Anyway, part of the concern her husband expressed to me last night was that she’s been in dire need for a few years now of double knee replacement surgeries (the prospect of which has scared her so she’s put it all off). Now, doctors said she’d never be able to have the surgery on her right side, which is the worst of the 2 knees (though both are really bad now).

    She’s in her early 70s (he’s 75, just retired, and appears to be in excellent physical health — they were high school sweetheart who married right out of school. She was pregnant with their oldest son within a year of their wedding when he was shipped off to Vietnam with the Marines).

    I’ve had a feeling something was “off” over there this past week, their cars were gone at unusual times (and last Saturday night when I was brushing my teeth late, around midnight, I could hear their side gate opening, so they’d just gotten home from somewhere — she has to use my driveway since their home, like mine, has numerous steps up to the front). But they’re typically in bed watching TV by 8 or 9 p.m.

  10. Mumsee – How would that work out with your having with you your 18 (or is she 19 now?) year old daughter with mental/emotional issues?

  11. I was just wondering if the state would have a problem with that, as I understand that there are strict regulations (or whatever they would be called) with foster care. Not that I am saying you should banish her, though!

  12. They are always in desperate need for foster care homes. They do have regulations but daughter would not impact it. But we may see how desperate they are if they are willing to waive the training block. Our home was added on for the purpose of foster care. Foster children come with all sorts of challenges. Daughter is minor in comparison.

  13. Praying for Debra and husband. I have not heard back from her. She may be exhausted as she is still in the recovery period herself. But I don’t know.
