Morning, Chas. Yes, the students need to be present. A couple of mine extended their morning recess by continuing to play basketball. I shortened their next recess. Fair is fair.
Our admin team just gave us new masks. The children don’t have to wear them. A couple of mine do since they are in situations that make it advisable. Lots of covid and trauma here. Do any of you nurses want to come?? There is lots of work. Covid is rather beginning to explode here plus lots of other things.
Chas, as a one who was exclusively homeschooled as a child, I know children can learn without being present in a classroom. My mother spent less and less time with each of us the better we got at learning the material ourselves. We learned to teach ourselves, especially through the high school years. My mother’s well meaning critics always questioned how she, who had taught public school, would manage to teach us high school – she always replied that a good teacher always wanted their pupils to learn more than the teacher knew, and we did. I admittedly have absolutely no experience at all with classroom learning below college level, but below college level, I know it isn’t absolutely necessary to have a classroom to learn in, because I never did.
Jo, alas, when I am finished recuperating, I may be needed more than ever here. It is getting so bad in certain hospitals due to the variants, there is talk of pulling in community nurses to help the hospitals. The variants are increasing the severity significantly.
I was reading about the Brazil situation a few nights ago. And Michigan isn’t doing well, either.
We still have fairly (and surprisingly) low numbers now in California, but I don’t think we necessarily expect that to last.
It’s been a tiring time for everyone. But in this, as in everything, God is still on his throne and (clearly) is doing “something” (what, we aren’t entirely sure). If nothing else, we’re reminded that we certainly aren’t in control.
I’m up ridiculously early (for me — this is mumsee time, though honestly she’s already been up for a couple hours I’m sure). They’re sending a few of us out of LA schools opening up today (K-1st grade at select schools only) so we can live tweet and catch some quick interviews with parents dropping off their children. School starts at 8 a.m. so we probably all need to be in place by 7:30; my school is fairly close, just about a 5-10 minute drive. I haven’t live-tweeted in a while, though, and that can be cumbersome, especially considering our time will be abbreviated.

Last night Little Miss got her Daddy’s phone and Facetimed her Papa to tell him she wanted pancakes for breakfast. He is on the way to get her now.
I am in a zoom class from 10-1 today so I won’t be popping back during that time.
I am trying to catch up with all of you and at least know what is going on with you.
Due to these kinds of assignments — where you’re having to juggle notebook, pen, phone, often other papers — I’ve dropped my phone numerous times through the years (this one’s a bit on the ‘older’ side, an iPhone 8 — they’re on the 12s and about to release the #13 model now). I bought one of those Otter Box cases finally and that’s kept it from breaking, though the case now has a chip out of it on the corner. But the phone’s still working.
Back to the pandemic, California is supposed to “re-open” statewide in mid-June. But we’ll see.
And I think protective face masks in China have long been fairly common, one often saw Asians here also wearing masks in public (way before Covid hit).

Kizzie, In answer to yesterday’s question, it is an extreme SELLER’S market right now. Buyer’s are acting like there will never be another home for sale EVER and they MUST buy NOW.
It is caused by low inventory left over from the homes that DIDN’T get built 2007-2012 or so. Also, anything under $200,000 right now, investors are snatching up for cash essentially knocking first time home buyers out of the market. That, and the cost of construction is so high right now because of the pandemic shutting so much down and how many components come from overseas.
Because of the market conditions, sellers are becoming afraid to sell their homes because “Where will we go?” Agents are getting creative with ideas like what you received in the mail or having buyers close and let the seller live in the home a period of time to find another home and move.
Even I, looked at possibly selling our house because I could get well over $300,000 for it right now, but where would we go. I can’t replace this house even taking over a $100,000 equity out of it.
In short, I. wouldn’t advise anyone to do it because markets turn on a dime.
I’m sorry Chas — and I lost my oldest friend, from about age 7 when we were in Girl Scouts and our family moved next door to hers, just a few months ago. I’m still terribly sad about that loss, I think about her often and how much I miss our quick daily online chats.
That’s okay, Chas. That’s what friends are for. That is sad for you and his loved ones.
We were going to go to church on Sunday, but then learned that the guy who preached the Sunday earlier has Covid as does the praise team leader. He was supposed to preach. We decided to wait once more. There are a couple of others who have been sick, but who have not tested yet. I know others in the area who have it right now. One who is young middle age, who was recently hospitalized. This is an area that has quite a bit of Covid right now. So we wait.
My granddaughter may be quarantined again, too, so our trip to see them is postponed, as well. I will be so happy when this is behind us. (if it ever is)
My grandson managed to get a basketball banquet type outing in last night. They live in a suburb of the Twin Cities and did have a curfew. My daughter said it sounded like a police convention as there were phones dinging all over the restaurant as reminders of the curfew time were coming in on phones. She is particularly sorry for the businesses who just got back into business after Covid shutdowns and are now pillaged and closed for riots. Also many families live above businesses and they are terrorized. Not to mention those who could not get to vaccination appointments.
One of my pet peeves about cell phones is that you just cannot balance them well on your ear like the old hand held phones. I used to get all the dishes done etc. while balancing a phone. I can see how it would be a real disadvantage when you have to take a lot of notes while talking.
We have snow coming down on top of all the puddles in the front yard. It is prettier than the drizzling rain.
Our real estate evaluations have gone up over $20,000 and people all over the township are quite upset. Some have gone up over $40,000. There will be a meeting tonight. I did see a PDF of some of the homes sold and what they got. I am amazed. If you are moving from somewhere with higher prices to a place with lower prices you will do well. Otherwise it is not a good thing.
The speaker setting saves us, kathaleena. I used to try juggle earbuds for phone interviews that required typing at the same time as talking. But when you’re working from home alone, the speaker setting works best as the hands-free option.
Praying the rioting will subside, but I’m not hopeful. “Closed for Rioting” could become a standard sign businesses can buy at this rate.
Very sad news, Chas, to follow so soon after the other greatest loss. You need to share these things that inform our prayers for you. We circle the wagons around you and others here who are suffering in various ways. May you feel the love, care, and uplifting from our prayers.
DJ, the juggling is what I have to do a lot because many times I use a hand held magnifying glass for doing things. I am twice as slow and never was a speedy person.
Kathaleena, my friends found a house here that was on the market in January and did not sell. By March the price had risen by 50,000 and sold before they could make an acceptable offer. It is unbelievably crazy here.
Kathleen, some years ago the tax appraiser raised the amount for tax assessment. All over town there were signs, “This House For Sale at Appraised Price”. Real Estate agents got lots of practice running comparable sales for people to challenge their appraisal.
Perhaps you can use that idea in your area?

One poor kid was really having a hard time when his mom got him up to the gate and they needed to give him a covid swab. Kids survive it, but my heart went out to him and his mom, a challenging day with going back to school and someone sticking a swab up your nose (or trying to, looked like the kid prevailed lol).
But the happened as I was already back in Baby Jeep getting ready to leave, I was watching it from several feet away and couldn’t hear the conversations.
Met the LA school board member I’d talked to on the phone several times when I was covering her campaign and subsequent election in November(?) (the months all run together for me anymore).
Cutest kid was a 5-year-old in a “Goodbye Zoom” mask. Asked how she felt about her going in for her first day of Kindergarten, she just started jumping up and down, shouting, “Yay! Yay! Yay!”
I am loving that photo up there. The subtleness of the colour of the bird is picked up in the trees and the whole thing just works! Not to mention just a cool action shot of the bird.

Kare, one hospital representative described the idea as robbing Peter to pay Paul. The community nursing sector is already short staffed. In the clinic before I left, we were taking in people from other regions – sometimes over an hour’s drive away – because their region had up to a weeks waiting list for community nursing care. When I had to go out on the road, in addition to the clients that were scheduled to our day there could be up to 20 extra clients that needed to be picked during the day. We often had to cancel less urgent visits because there just wasn’t time to see everyone. Just before I left, another 2 nurses had left for other jobs. Community nursing helps hospitals by taking care of clients in their homes or community clinics and we are stretched ridiculously thin already.
roscuro, can you get an extension on your recovery leave from your MD?
I took 6 weeks off for my ‘endo’ surgery years ago, but my editor at the time quibbled with that, he actually showed up at my apartment suggesting that most people don’t need that many weeks off … I told him my doctor suggested it was a good idea to take the full time off, so I did.
Thankfully ,covid numbers are WAY down here. Looking to reopen in July or along that time. I still wear a mask in stores. Many do not though supposed to be mandatory. To each his own.
Roscuro, maybe you’ll more rapidly improve in another couple weeks then. I’d just let your surgeon make the official call with his/her authority behind it, if it comes to that.

I’m still perplexed at how the officer could have made the mistake she did, pointing (for some time) and then using her revolver as opposed to the taser (which is kept on the opposite side and is bright yellow). I do think this was an “accident,” but what a horrific one — and one that doesn’t make sense since she was a veteran cop.
But as mumsee said on the prayer thread, I think about her, too, and what she must be going through right now. The man didn’t seem to be armed from anything I’ve heard — and there were 3 of them (police) and just one of him. It’s all so horrible — and inexplicable to my mind.
More information will come out, I realize; and there will, of course, be a trial.
clear and cold here this morning. When I got up in the night I saw the southern cross shining brightly. Clear skies make for cold mornings. We had our fellowship time together last night and were able to zoom in on our local zoom our friends who just got back and are in quarantine. So fun to see each other. One of the little girls at school said that she had called the teacher to welcome her back. so sweet.
I am not sure how she could have made the mistake, but from the video the taser looked like it was black. I am sorry for all involved.
I have a relative who did have to shoot someone to save lives. She was immediately called a racist. There was an investigation and it was shown to have been necessary. Those who screamed she was a racist had no idea she was in a relationship with a man of the same race and he was the father of her daughter. I am not sure why they were not racist for immediately assuming she was a racist just because she looked Caucasian, but that seems to be the times.
One can only hope and pray more sensible voices are prevail.
I wonder if she was on medication that could have confused her reaction. Even over the counter allergy medication might affect the body in some way to give one an off day. I have taken an allegy/cold med once that made me feel funny. I never took it again.
Meanwhile on this crisp, cool fall morning I went to market. It was 53 degrees this morning and that is the indoor temperature, we have no heat source other than the sun. We are now required to wear masks at market, which is wise. However a mask with wearing glasses means every breath fogs them up. I literally couldn’t see. I had to hold my glasses in my hand in order to see the produce. Just giving you all some comic relief from afar.
It is so warm here, maybe near record breaking. The early blooming things were late this year, and now the later blooming things are early. Never know what to expect these days, but pretty is in the forcast.
I got several very similar in flight pictures this morning on the game camera, only different coloring and much bigger. Some were of a raven, some of turkey vultures. They were out again today and I tried for pics on my phone but was busy moving the sheep when they went right over my head. Oh well. I would not be able to send them in.
AJ, that cardinal is such a pretty spring shot. I finally got a shot I’ve been wanting for a while, with a twist. (I won’t tell what the twist is, though I’ll send the photos.) I got red-winged blackbirds singing from cattails!
Hey, DJ! The place down the road a couple miles is up for sale. Yours for just 14,795,000. Comes furnished and with the animals and stuff. We could be neighbors. Of course, I never knew the place existed before seeing it on zillow.
elk, mountain lion, bear, mule deer, chickens, horses. The usual. It has all sorts of cool hunting furnishings. Maybe you could talk them down to fifteen hundred.
I worked hard today and then came home and took a nap. I suppose that you all are asleep? Dinner time around here. Of course our sunshiny day ended with torrential rain. We were all so happy to see some sunshine this morning. It has been a while.
after writing this, I went and sat on my couch planning to read for a few minutes. Something caught my eye outside. I gabbed my camera and headed out to see an amazing rainbow, even a double rainbow. I took photos with my phone, but they just didn’t show the intensity of the colors. So I ran back inside and got my real camera. As I was returning inside I went to the highest part of my yard, where I could see the other end of the rainbow. It ended in a small cloud as if it was just nestled in. God is still in control and He keeps His promises. The light was just pouring off the end of the rainbow onto the land. He blesses us.

I am actually worried about my first days back because the schedule I recieved has me on the heaviest rotation. I am concerned I could injure myself.

I am not sure why they were not racist for immediately assuming she was a racist just because she looked Caucasian, but that seems to be the times.
One can only hope and pray more sensible voices are prevail.

I wonder if she was on medication that could have confused her reaction. Even over the counter allergy medication might affect the body in some way to give one an off day. I have taken an allegy/cold med once that made me feel funny. I never took it again.

Meanwhile on this crisp, cool fall morning I went to market. It was 53 degrees this morning and that is the indoor temperature, we have no heat source other than the sun. We are now required to wear masks at market, which is wise. However a mask with wearing glasses means every breath fogs them up. I literally couldn’t see. I had to hold my glasses in my hand in order to see the produce. Just giving you all some comic relief from afar.

It is so warm here, maybe near record breaking. The early blooming things were late this year, and now the later blooming things are early. Never know what to expect these days, but pretty is in the forcast.

I got several very similar in flight pictures this morning on the game camera, only different coloring and much bigger. Some were of a raven, some of turkey vultures. They were out again today and I tried for pics on my phone but was busy moving the sheep when they went right over my head. Oh well. I would not be able to send them in.

AJ, that cardinal is such a pretty spring shot. I finally got a shot I’ve been wanting for a while, with a twist. (I won’t tell what the twist is, though I’ll send the photos.) I got red-winged blackbirds singing from cattails!

Hey, DJ! The place down the road a couple miles is up for sale. Yours for just 14,795,000. Comes furnished and with the animals and stuff. We could be neighbors. Of course, I never knew the place existed before seeing it on zillow.

I worked hard today and then came home and took a nap. I suppose that you all are asleep? Dinner time around here. Of course our sunshiny day ended with torrential rain. We were all so happy to see some sunshine this morning. It has been a while.

after writing this, I went and sat on my couch planning to read for a few minutes. Something caught my eye outside. I gabbed my camera and headed out to see an amazing rainbow, even a double rainbow. I took photos with my phone, but they just didn’t show the intensity of the colors. So I ran back inside and got my real camera. As I was returning inside I went to the highest part of my yard, where I could see the other end of the rainbow. It ended in a small cloud as if it was just nestled in. God is still in control and He keeps His promises. The light was just pouring off the end of the rainbow onto the land. He blesses us.
