Art has a nail in his tire and has been driving with a slow leak with occasionally putting more air in that tire. I wanted to get the car to the shop by 7 but realized I could not take it because it is dark out so I had to get Art up to take the car. That is why I am up early. I had wanted to do this on Monday. See how far behind I am?
Well, that was quick. He is back. He is mad. He said they would sell him a tire but would not plug it. They said they don’t plug tires. This is a Goodyear tire shop and the tires are Goodyear tires. Wow! The tire is one that should be plugged since the nail is not on the sidewall. I just don’t understand this new world order.
I’m not asleep yet, Chas. The others will wake up about the time I go to sleep so we have you covered. Praying for Roscuro to be feeling better today and to be well enough to head home.
And in other news, probably the last person to interview Kathleen Chambers contacted me last night and sent a photo this morning. The most interesting and kind people contact me through my website!
And I got to go see the car up on the rack. Nails in the two back tires. One can be plugged, but the other had two nails so has to be replaced. What can one do but get a new tire after all? I feel like a real April fool, practicing grace skills.
Where are you driving to get all those nails, Janice?
I might start a campaign to cancel DJ because she is disparaging short people. Short people unite!
We were predicted to have below zero temps this morning, but it didn’t get down that low here. Everything is frozen, however. Looks like lots of warm is coming up.
My husband had his first jam practice yesterday. I stayed home and got a ton of stuff done.
Waiting for a porter to take me down to the door. Going home.
Short person here. Second and Second in-law are both taller than average, and sometimes it feels like I’m living with giants – when Second in-law builds something, he builds it for tall people. My maternal granother was shorter than I. In high school, her best friend was the tallest girl in school, while her friend’s brother was the tallest boy. She used to say that sometimes, if they were a bit late, her friend and friend’s brother would pick her up between them and run.
I hate it when I need something from the top shelf of the grocery store and the items are set back a ways (because someone already has nabbed the ones closet to the edge).
DJ, my husband is 6’3″. He has helped many a woman in your predicament and I, nine inches shorter and not with particularly long arms, have borrowed many a man for such a use myself.
I got Art’s car taken care of with the tires today. He goes back and forth to the office and gets gas and occasionally goes to Kroger. That is where he travels. One nail we knew about. The others will remain a mystery. I took the car to where I had gotten the tires. Art had put too much mileage on them for them to still be covered by the Road Hazard agreement.
Curious about that many nails. I refuse to speculate. God knows.
NancyJill – Yesterday you mentioned liking cinnamon. So do I!
Funny little thing: One time a friend had brought some hard candies over. I popped what looked like a starlight mint (peppermint) into my mouth. Realizing that it wasn’t peppermint after all, I was trying to figure out what kind of mint it was. Then it occurred to me that it wasn’t mint at all – it was cinnamon! Yummy!
Morning! Two cups of coffee down and I just may need a third! Why am I so tired?!!
Warmer temps today and all these windows are going to fly open to bring in fresh Spring air!
Kizzie I have always loved cinnamon. As a little girl when Dad gave us our 10 cents to purchase something at the corner drug store they all knew I was going to get the box of Red Hots!! My little hands would be red from holding those little candies and my tongue would be fire engine red. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
Art must have been driving through a construction zone. When a house was being built down our road the construction company left a mess on the road. Paul’s back tire had a nail in it and then Hannah’s car got one as well. We tried taking another route to our house after that!
Two tires or maybe just one is OK, last I heard; probably depending on age of other tires?
Chaos for me today and tomorrow, just had 2 stories thrown at me while I was trying to cover the port commission meeting. Ugh.
cheryl, yes, I’ve “hung out” in an aisle or two in order to nab a passer-by who’s taller than I am. People are always very helpful when asked, even in the pandemic when we’re all having to keep our distance.
Ah short people and the grocery store. I have had a couple of kindly gentlemen assist me with reaching something located on the tippy top of the shelf. But then there is that pesky placement of the heavy whipped cream in the refrigerated cases. I have been known to walk over to the kitchen utensil aisle which is located closely and grab a pasta spoon…I then step on the lower portion of the case and grab the cream in the very back of the case. 😊 mission accomplished!!
Mumsee, I replaced the one tire with the same as what the others are, Goodyear Assurance. It was not on sale so the drive out price was close to 180.00. The guy first said I needed two new tires. When we looked at them he said he could put a plug in one which was my preference.
Why did that make me feel so tired to do the little errand to get the tire? I think it grew into so much more than I expected. And I had to drive out of my familiar territory. Driving is not as easy as it use to be.
It’s really chilly out today with a cold wind whipping around. We have a freeze warning for tomorrow night. The dogwoods are blooming so beautifully. I hope the blossoms are not killed right before Easter.
I’ve used impromptu ‘tools,’ too — when trying to grab a large bottle of flavored water from the top shelf, I’ll get another bottle that’s lower and try to knock it over so it can roll forward. Disaster waiting to happen, I know.
Just be careful, DJ, and don’t climb the shelves and end up in ER with a twisted wrist or worse from hanging on while reaching. I am medium height and have learned my lesson. I now ask for help.
I suppose we could carry our grabber tools with us for grocery runs. I have not bought chips in a long time. Those are the worst culprits for having one bag left at the far back of their slot.
When husband goes in with a nail in the tire, if they can’t fix it, they insist he needs to buy all four as they need to have equal tread. I was just wondering if that is the general experience. At least, they want him to buy both rear or both front and then rotate them after so many miles, front to back.
I spoke to the assistant surgeon twice, once yesterday, when I was a bit out of it, and once this morning. They were very pleased with the outcome. I am to follow-up with the surgeon in 6 weeks.
Kim, we lived in an 8×35 house trailer for five years. Moved it from Columbia, SC, to Ft. Worth, Tx, to “Spartanburg, SC, to Fairfax, va. While I was away, closing on the house we bought in Falls Church, Va. a man came by and asked Elvera if we wanted to sell our house trailer. .
That is true. It seems like a miracle. I actually believe God was in that move.
Whoa, did you all see the news? Biden is expected to resign tomorrow morning and let Kamala Harris take over as president. Something about realizing it’s a bigger job than he can do at this point in his life.
Janice, thanks. That is what I was wondering. Husband has had four wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles though the van is just two wheel and I am not sure he has to replace all of them on it.
Roscuro, just keep the doc apprised of any discomfort and follow instructions. The doc has probably done the surgery more than a few times and knows what it takes generally to have a good recovery. (I speak from hearing people complain about their knee surgery results after laughing off the doc’s directions, whereas husband listened and has no complaints on his knees) Anyway, we are continuing prayer for you.
My husband’s job when we were first married was setting up house trailers. He worked for a BIL and he was fired when he was willing to testify again BIL in a divorce case. It was never meant to be a permanent job anyway. That was back before no-fault divorce.
My SIL is now only 4 ft. 9 inches. That is the problem with being short, when you get old you are really short.
My husband gets quite a bit of short jokes from his music friends. It doesn’t bother him at all. He just tells people his feet touch the ground and that is all the matters. Same with being bald, he has a whole lot of come-backs. I never particularly minded being short, but it does make quite a few things more work. Grocery shopping is one. Painting means more trips up and down a ladder and you can spot tall people much better in a crowd.
We had a young friend whose birthday would have been today. He was 6′ 7″ and very handy to just reach up and paint the ceiling. I was quite envious. He automatically ducked when going through doors and buying pants was a real challenge.
Re: short people – I have a friend who is 4’11” tall(?). When someone teased her about her lack of height she would reply, “If you don’t quit teasing I’ll jump up and bite your kneecap.
I am average: 5’6″. Husband is 5’9″. But my sons range from 5’2″ to 6’7″. Seven of them are over six feet, including fourteen year old. My daughters are almost all shorter than me.
I am 5’8″. It’s handy for reaching things high up or far back on shelves. Earlier this week at the grocery store, I bought an item in the freezer section in which there were two rows of the product. (The rows extended backwards from the freezer door.) The row on the right was probably about ten boxes deep, from the door to the back of the freezer. The row on the left had only one box left, way back from the door, but still within my reach. So that was the package I figured had my name on it. 🙂
One disadvantage of being taller is gymnastics is harder, I think, because of one’s higher center of gravity. I used to enjoy doing gymnastics for fun — it was back in the 70s during the Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci days — but I was never good enough to be on a team. Those flailing long arms and legs get in the way of gracefulness. 😉
Janice, 6:10pm, I enjoy that movement of the Moonlight Sonata. Most of the time when we think of the Moonlight, it’s the adagio first movement that comes to mind, but the second and third movements are nice, too, and all three movements are so different from each other! Beethoven’s innovative and varying styles are well on display throughout that sonata. 🙂
I taught one piano lesson this week during my break — a make-up lesson for a student who couldn’t attend last week because of attending an out-of-town funeral for a relative who died.
Her make-up lesson was today after school. I had just finished playing viola at our church’s 2:00 Maundy Thursday service, so after that, I drove to the studio — only about 5 minutes away from church — and brought my viola in for her piano lesson. She is in high school and has done very little accompanying, so I thought it would be kind of fun and a good experience for her to accompany me on a piece for violin and piano. She is a good sightreader, and the piano part is relatively easy, so we collaborated on Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in the Mirror) for part of her lesson time. I enjoy changing things up with lessons now and then, and she seemed to like playing the piece, too.
Olga Korbut came to my town of Moscow in the mid seventies. My Senior Girl Scout troop (about six of us) were part of her parade escort. I am sure she waved at me. Or somebody. I used to have a picture of her. Maybe still do. But I forgot all about her. That is kind of how it is for all of us, which is why Genesis 5 is so important.
Roscuro – I am happy to hear that is was a laparoscopic surgery, which is what my gallbladder surgery was. I was thinking you had to have a more invasive surgery. Even so, any surgery is a trauma to the body, and needs time to heal properly.
Supposedly, 5′ 4″ is average height for women, but I know a lot of us around that height (I am 5′ 3 1/2″) feel short. Hubby was 6′ 1″, and I loved being able to find him easily if we were in separate areas of a store. And I fit under his arm very nicely. 🙂 Both of my daughters are taller than me, and Boy will probably be taller than me within a couple of years.
Nightingale and I know a couple in which the wife is 4′ 10″ and the husband is 6′ 4″. Nightingale says it is not fair for short women to marry tall men, as that leaves fewer tall men for the tall women. (She is 5′ 9″. At least Coach is tall enough for her.)
I am 5’6″ and Art was 5’7″ (I think he has settled to match me now). Wesley is a tad bit taller than us, or appears that way because he is slim and we are not. My brother is probably 5’10”. Art’s mom was under 5′ so she had the short genes. His dad was probably 5’8″ but I am not sure about that because I only knew him when he was advanced in age.
Whoa. April 1st on the night of the 31st. And I’m first.
