We got to have dinner with Elizabeth before the play, then took her shopping and to lunch on Saturday before we headed home. It was a nice weekend, the girls really enjoyed it.

Good morning. Little girl was up and back in bed but I suspect she is not done being up. Mommy needed grandpa to go jump her car as she left the lights on (again). When he is not home, she just fixes it herself, but when he is home…. She gets it from her mommy, the need for our hero to step in when available. He does not mind.
Good morning. Great to hear about your fun weekend, AJ. I am reminded of the fun days of visiting Wesley at Covenant College and doing things around Chattanooga.
Art’s eyeglasses that I repaired last evening around midnight are still holding together this a.m. He absolutely must have his glasses to do his work. These are the same glasses I have done another repair on by taping one of the parts that go over the ear together where it had broken off with package sealing tape. This new repair was for a popped out lense. Even with my reading glasses aided by a magnifying glass, I had trouble seeing the tiny screw and how it all fit together so it was really accomplished more by trial and error and feel. I finally realized if I barely screwed the frame together and then popped the lenses back in before tightening it I could get the operation to be successful. I was unsuccessful when I kept trying to hold it all in place and make it work like that. Now if I can only remember that trick. I will probably get lots of practice.

Billions of people on this earth. Yet God can hear and give individual attention as if I were the only person in the world he had to worry about.
I first read ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ in my teens. We (siblings and dear friend and relative) had enjoyed June Austen’s literary satires, and were on the lookout for any other such fare. Dear friend and relative made the discovery – there was a massive collection of books in her home – and passed it on to us. I didn’t see a production until several years later when Youngest gave me a DVD of the 1952 production of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ with Micheal Redgrave and Margaret Rutherford. It is the only thing Oscar Wilde wrote that I really like.

Here’s a question that I pondered for a while before I found at least one answer: is there any place in Scripture that makes any mention of silent prayer?
Is this a trivia question, or just a question? Because I thought it was just a question and so typed in the words ‘pray’ and ‘heart’ into the search bar on Bible Gateway, and immediately came up with another one, but if it is a trivia question, I don’t want to spoil the game.
I see Silver Maples were mentioned yesterday. When I was in high school biology we had to put together a book of leaves and identify them. I identified silver popular leaves as silver maples, since everyone called them that. There are actual silver maples, which are very tall and real maples. I was the first to hand my booklet in and the teacher used it as an example to let every other student that the leaf was not from a silver maple, explaining the difference. I was very upset to get an A- for that error, while everyone else had a chance to do it correctly! Such things matter to some students, although it seems silly now.
Roscuro, I didn’t google it, so I don’t know how many others there are, and I’d be interested. I’d initially wondered if there were any, having forgotten about Hannah. I thought of the question because one of my friends mentioned that a mentally slow friend of hers had said she couldn’t be spending time praying because she has a sore throat, and my friend was amazed she’d never heard of praying silently. So I was wondering, would a person see the concept in Scripture itself, or is it just an awareness that if God can even read our thoughts, then clearly we can “speak” to Him in our thoughts?
If you think about it, it really is a rather unusual concept.
Reading used to be considered something one only did aloud. To us it seems obvious that people can read silently, but that wasn’t always the case.
The one I found in my search was Abraham’s servant, when he prayed about finding a wife for Isaac. In Genesis 24:45, the servant is recounting his story to Laban and his household, and he says, “And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder…”
On reading aloud, one nephew taught himself to read at the age of three, but he could only read out loud. But, he only read out loud. His parents had to coach him to read silently.

Re the question of when a society starts to go wrong, the Bible has plenty to say about fullness (in the sense of having everything one needs and more) and pride being the root causes of a society’s disintegration. This is true not only of the specially chosen nation of Israel, but also of nations that were pagan: “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it” (Ezekiel 16:49-50). Proverbs 30:9 notes that those who have abundance are inclined to deny the Lord, while the same book warns that pride leads to destruction (Proverbs 26:18). When Solomon had accumulated wealth and power and luxury, his heart was turned away from God.
I agree with Cheryl’s analysis on yesterday’s thread of the dangers of a civic Christianity. Civic religion is the enemy of Christianity. The moralism inherent in a civic religion always preaches a salvation of works. Civic religion was responsible for the slow corruption and death of the Western Catholic Church, as it wed itself ever closer to the state. The Church was warned, that friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4).
Finally got to meet Coach yesterday as he helped bring in and set up our new stove. He also knew to open up the back of the old stove to remove the electrical cord, as new stoves don’t come with them – you have to buy them separately. Strange.
Anyway, he seems like a nice guy, which I had already figured from the things Nightingale has said about him. I was grateful for his help in bringing the stove home and in.
The old stove, which we’d had for about 20 years, was the kind with a glass top, which I found pretty easy to clean. The new one has the coils, not a glass top. So of course, in her first use of it, Nightingale accidentally let a pot boil over. As you know, I am the clean-up woman, so I had to remove the coil for that burner, and the metal whatacallit underneath to clean it properly, and also clean under that. Well, I guess I will get used to it, as I did in the past.
Feeling kind of odd today – emotionally more than physically.

I’ll admit. I have glanced at shirts before, but never looked down one. How do we go about that?
Chas – If a woman is sitting at a desk, and a man comes alongside to talk to her, as he is standing and she is sitting, he can look down her shirt. There may be other ways, too, but that is the one that occurred to me.
Seriously. I am almost 91 years old.
I have looked at lots of women with admiration.
I have noticed that some have nice figures.
I have admired women in bathing suits and tight cloths.
I don’t think I have ever looked down a shirt.
I just started into a new book, The Stars in April, which looks quite fascinating. It is based on a twelve year old girl’s experience on the Titanic. I have a pre-release ARC to read.
Chas, we could probably all tell stories about looking for something that is right in our pocket, hand or on our head. I sure can. We just seem to get more worried about it the older we get.
I can’t seem to find a driver for my printer to add to my new laptop. I tried before and gave up. Today I tried again and still could not find one. Not sure if my printer is just too old or not. I suppose it is. I will have to see what is available. I hate having to do it, but I hate being without a printer even more. I may check with the people I bought the computer from first. I asked the clerk to add my driver and she told me it would just be easy, peasy. Hmmmm. All this technology is wonderful in many ways, but it sure does add work and stress in other ways.
There was a day when I would be so careful to make sure all my buttons were buttoned up high, and even use a safety pin on the back side of the spacing between buttons if there happened to be a gap. And no tops were worn that were v-neck or cut low. But then it seemed you could hardly find anything available that was not that way. Things really got too relaxed for a long while now. I hope things will be swinging back to a more modest look. I know that wider leg slacks are back in style for ladies. I have on a pair of my older wide leg slacks/jeans that I never could part with. If you hang on to things long enough, you can hit the point of fashion recycling.

Oh, good! I will be fashionable again. I remember when the collar bone was revealing. I look at these women with no fronts compared to the men in suits and I really do not get it. Either the guys are too warm or the ladies must be freezing.
DJ – Because I have been used to the glass top kind (which we also have upstairs, although that one hasn’t worked in a while), the new one with the burners on top looks kind of old-fashioned to me. Not that that is a bad thing! I like old-fashioned stuff!
Boy asked me if this is the kind of stove with “the fire that comes out”. He was thinking of a gas stove. (Ours is electric.) 😀

I have fire and gas with my stove, one burner’s off a bit and sends a flame on one side kind of too high so i need to be careful to keep that one turned way low.
I think the brand is Magic Chef? Probably not very high end, but it sure has lasted a long time.
I’ve heard of Magic Chef. Our new one is a GE. I have no idea if GE is still considered a good, reliable brand. (At least, I assume that it used to be.)
The name Magic Chef reminds me. . .Who here has heard of, or remembers, a McDonald’s/Burger King type of burger place called Burger Chef? I remember my parents and I going to one now and then when we lived in Ohio. Or maybe it was when we lived in Wisconsin? Somewhere out there. 🙂

My oven is more retro with 4 burners on top, very old school. But I’ve never used any other kind.

Thank you for the birthday greetings. I am on spring break. We went to Rio Rancho last night for dinner with eldest daughter and family. Bummed around the house and napped today. We go see the Las Vegas crew tomorrow. I dont think we will make it to Hobbs as we have snow coming on Wednesday.

In the early ’50’s, I was too busy to pay much attention.
I was in the AF then. Flying to Europe mostly. (Radio, not pilot)

In those days, (Up until around 1957 when they got single sideband and didn’t need radio nor navigators)
As I said, In those days, a plane couldn’t leave continental US without a navigator and radio operator.
