I’ve been told repeatedly that it wasn’t Antifa or BLM thugs at the WH, yet here we are….

    Arrested and charged.

“Black Lives Matter Activist Who Stormed Capitol on Jan. 6 Charged”

“The Black Lives Matter activist who was seen storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was charged with being on restricted grounds, civil disorder, and violent entry and disorderly conduct, the Department of Justice said Thursday.

A new court filing says John Earle Sullivan, 26, told FBI agents last week that he was at the Capitol when the breach happened. He said he entered through a window that had been broken out. He also said he was present when Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, was shot dead by a U.S. Capitol Police officer as she tried to climb into the House Speaker’s Lobby through a window.

Sullivan showed agents some of the footage he captured inside the building, which he and others entered illegally.

Videos showed Sullivan and others breaking through a barricade, with the Utah man shouting: “There are so many people. Let’s go. This [Expletive] is ours! [Expletive] yeah. We accomplished this [expletive]. We did this together. [Expletive] yeah! We are all a part of this history. Let’s burn this [Expletive] down.”

He was later heard encouraging protesters to climb a wall to get to an entrance to the Capitol and was seen entering the building.

During one conversation with others while inside, Sullivan said, “We gotta get this [expletive] burned.” At other times, he said, among other things, “it’s our house [expletive]” and “we are getting this [expletive].”

Sullivan told U.S. Capitol Police officers to stand down so that they wouldn’t get hurt, according to the court filing. He joined the crowd trying to open doors to another part of the Capitol, telling people “Hey guys, I have a knife” and asking them to let him get to the front. He did not make it to the doors. He later tried to get the officers guarding the Speaker’s Lobby to go home, telling them: “Bro, I’ve seen people out there get hurt.”

“Sullivan spoke to a slew of media outlets after the breach, including CNN and ABC. He told The Epoch Times that he took steps to blend in with the crowd so he didn’t “get beat up.” He said he’s known in the activist community as being a member of the far-left, anarcho-communist group Antifa. He denied being a member of the network.”

Schilling — who tweets under the name “President Elect Curt Schilling” — didn’t pinpoint exactly what he thinks got him in hot water with AIG.

But reports suggested it was a Jan. 6 tweet that followed the deadly storming of the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

“You cowards sat on your hands, did nothing while liberal trash looted rioted and burned for Air Jordan’s and big screens, sit back, stfu, and watch folks start a confrontation for s**t that matters like rights, democracy and the end of gov’t corruption,” Schilling wrote, according to The Blaze.

AIG didn’t immediately return a request for comment.”

  8. Good stuff this morning, AJ. What’s happening now is just a continuation to what has been happening for the last 4 years. And the sad thing is, so many people prefer peaceable corruption to the discomfort that comes with housecleaning. As a result, we’re on track for continued government corruption, though something tells me the protesting and violence is not going away.

  15. So let’s be clear here.

US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq don’t have this option, even when being fired upon by actual terrorists, but yet they’re being told it’s OK to shoot your fellow countrymen.

    Whose escalating things now?

“National Guard at Capitol Authorized to Use Lethal Force in Aftermath of Mob”

“THE 20,000 NATIONAL Guard troops preparing for pro-Trump demonstrations this weekend in the nation’s capital will be armed and permitted to use lethal force, the headquarters overseeing them says, marking a striking escalation in the way authorities there are preparing for repeat violence after last week’s deadly mob.

“On January 12, 2021, National Guardsmen were given authorization to be armed in support of the U.S. Capitol Police to protect the U.S. Capitol and individual members of Congress and their staff,” according to a statement from the D.C. National Guard, which is commanding Guard forces in the city, including units deployed from six other states, to provide security for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week.

A defense official confirmed the authorization includes permission for Guard troops to use lethal force.”

    https://hotair.com/archives/ed-morrissey/2021/01/15/new-study-lockdowns-didnt-stop-spread-covid-19/

“New Study: Lockdowns Didn’t Stop The Spread Of COVID-19 After All”

“As always, approach all stories that headline the word “study” with some caution. Newsweek’s report on a new study from Stanford published this week in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation should carry the same caveat — one study does not a scientific foundation make. However, the findings in this study of the impact of lockdowns on COVID-19 transmission do seem to fit our own observations, especially in the pandemic’s second and third waves:

The most restrictive non‐pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for controlling the spread of COVID‐19 are mandatory stay‐at‐home and business closures. Given the consequences of these policies, it is important to assess their effects. We evaluate the effects on epidemic case growth of more restrictive NPIs (mrNPIs), above and beyond those of less restrictive NPIs (lrNPIs).

We first estimate COVID‐19 case growth in relation to any NPI implementation in subnational regions of 10 countries: England, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, and the US. Using first‐difference models with fixed effects, we isolate the effects of mrNPIs by subtracting the combined effects of lrNPIs and epidemic dynamics from all NPIs. We use case growth in Sweden and South Korea, two countries that did not implement mandatory stay‐at‐home and business closures, as comparison countries for the other 8 countries (16 total comparisons).

Implementing any NPIs was associated with significant reductions in case growth in 9 out of 10 study countries, including South Korea and Sweden that implemented only lrNPIs (Spain had a non‐significant effect). After subtracting the epidemic and lrNPI effects, we find no clear, significant beneficial effect of mrNPIs on case growth in any country. In France, e.g., the effect of mrNPIs was +7% (95CI ‐5%‐19%) when compared with Sweden, and +13% (‐12%‐38%) when compared with South Korea (positive means pro‐contagion). The 95% confidence intervals excluded 30% declines in all 16 comparisons and 15% declines in 11/16 comparisons.

In other words, despite the wide variance in types of social interventions, the harsher lockdowns provided no significant improvement in reducing community transmission than did the softer interventions did — social distancing, mask-wearing, and perhaps capacity restrictions. Their conclusion — the cost/benefit ratio for harsh interventions doesn’t justify them:

While small benefits cannot be excluded, we do not find significant benefits on case growth of more restrictive NPIs. Similar reductions in case growth may be achievable with less restrictive interventions.”

  23. So the right side of the internet has found their black man. The FBI have arrested nearly 200 people so far and will be close to 300 by the end of today. But apparently its the one twenty something black guy who somehow casued 100s of middle aged white men to storm the capital, vandalize the building and search for reps and votes. Apparently, after a minute or so of yelling the black man convinced an armed forces veteran with a history of violence to break down a door and get shot. This will absolve both the cop and the women because obviously its the black man’s fault. And this black guy must have super powers as somehow he incited a middle aged white Trump supporter to throw a fire extinguisher at a policeman and incite crowds to pummel police with a flag poles and in one case led the crowd in chatting “Kill the cop with his own gun”.

Okay enough of the sarcasm — obviously one black guy does not absolve hundreds of Trump supporters of their crimes. But its apparent that some on the right want to avoid responsibility and use a black guy a scapegoat.

Qualified Immunity has given police (and national guard) more freedom in the use of force in the United States than the rules of engagement for the US armed forces abroad. This is a point BLM was trying to make last summer.

  25. Lockdowns and mask mandate do work when the outbreak is in the general populaiton. If a viral infection is mostly restricted to “congregate settings” — prisons, long term care homes, hospitals, armed forces barracks, etc lockdowns are not necessary. Currently, my premier has tightened our lockdown regulations despite the fact Covid is mostly confinded in for profit LTCs . However the LTCs have close connections with the conservative party and thus the rest of us have to deal with overregulation to avoid our conservative premier regulating the corporate LTCs.

From what I understand, covid in the US is beyond the congregate setttings and is in the general population hence a lockdown may be necessary. My other observation is the US seems to have given up and has taken a fatalistic approach to covid as they’ve tired of the news concering disease. This combined with a general reticent to listening to the government has made the US approach ad hoc and not very successful. I also came across a news article saying the vacine surplus or backup didn’t exists — the Trump admin just made up the numbers.

  26. Tychicus — I’m always amused when people of a right wing persussion quote Orwell or use the term Orwellian. George Orwell was a socialist who fought in the Spanish Civil War on the anarchist side. His no nonsense leftist approach to politcal thought and action is something I’ve always greatly admired. His quotes on totalitarianism, especially in 1984, are mostly a criticism of the British aristocracy and fascism. Animal Farm is of course an allegory of the Russian Revolution but in particular its a critique of Stalin — however Orwell voted Labour his entire life. If people really want to understand Orwell they should read “Homage to Catalonia” his report on fighting in the Spanish Civil War in Barcelona. His Road to Wigan Pier also makes his political sympathies explicitly clear.
