“A federal judge in Pittsburgh on Monday ruled that orders issued by Gov. Tom Wolf restricting the size of gatherings and closing nonessential businesses to protect against the spread of covid-19 were unconstitutional.
In a statement, Wolf said his office will seek an immediate stay to halt the order and file an appeal.
U.S. District Judge William S. Stickman IV wrote in his 66-page opinion that, even though the actions taken in the spring by Wolf and Health Secretary Rachel Levine were laudable, they violated the First Amendment right to freedom of assembly, and the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses of the 14th Amendment.
“It’s a complete and total victory for the counties, the businesses and the representatives,” said attorney Thomas W. King III, who represented the plaintiffs in the case. “You can’t order the entire population of Pennsylvania to stay at home.”
President Trump, in a tweet celebrating the ruling, said: “Congratulations Pennsylvania. Now we await the decision on the Rigged Ballot Scam, which is so bad for our Country!” He went on to retweet more than 20 references to the story.

King said the judge’s decision finding gathering limits to be unconstitutional now applies to everyone in Pennsylvania.
He said the finding that the stay-at-home order was unconstitutional means it can never be repeated.

“Two football players on the Little Miami (OH) High School team have been suspended from the team after they defied school officials and carried a thin blue line and thin red line flags, supporting police and firefighters, onto the field before last Friday’s September 11 game.
Senior cornerback Brady Williams, whose father is a police officer, carried the thin blue line flag onto the field. “I was just doing it to honor the people that lost their lives 19 years ago,” Williams told WKRC.
The thin red line flag was carried by Jarad Bentley. His father is a firefighter. “I was all for it,” he told the Cincinnati TV station. “Because my dad is a firefighter, and if it had been him killed on 9/11, I would have wanted someone to do it for him.”
The two players asked school officials for permission to carry the flags, but they were denied. The players chose to defy the school authorities and the school responded by slapping them with an indefinite suspension.”
I feel conflicted about those kids and their flags. On one hand, I think they should have been allowed to carry them, especially since they were not intended as a political statement (although the thin blue line one would probably be taken as political). But on the other hand, they asked and were denied permission, so the school has to follow through with some sort of discipline.

The problem for the police is they have no credibility especially in minority communities. Police mgmt/unions and politicians have failed the beat cop. By failing to discipline police properly and reform police when and where needed they have destroyed public confidence in the police.
The DHS conveniently leaked a document on Antifa — this is supposed to be credible? Published and public documents from the FBI,DHS etc all suggest white supremacists and right wing militia are a far greater threat than antifa. And to suggest that because they use the same tactics, they are organized is a leap in logic or more likely faith. They have the same tactics and techniques because they read the same web pages.
Corruption in the Ukraine is not a news story. Any corporation doing business in the Ukraine participates in corruption. If a corporation didn’t participate in corruption that would be news.
Both Biden and Trump are mocked for their inarticulate speech — you can easily find a video of Trump’s greatest speaking errors. He can’t read off the teleprompter any word more than three syllables and sometimes even less. And frequently he will slur his words. The difference between the two is that Biden is fundamentally a nice guy who will delegate whereas Trump is a narcissist who enjoys power. And Trump will break the law just to reward his narcissism. He broke the indoor social distancing rules in Nevada. You may argue the rules are unnecessary but he did break the rule. When he did this in Tulsa, people got sick and died. We now know he understands the severity of Covid 19 yet he continues to put his supporters in peril to satisfy his need for an adoring audience.
The recent developments in the Middle East are interesting. Recognition of Israel will bring some stability to the region. Turkey used to be Israel’s unrecognized ally in the region but Erdogan changed that — the Turkish military has stopped their long standing association with the Israeli military. The Israelis have long had a problem with Shia militants in southern Lebanon while the Gulf States have problems with Shia groups. With this mutual interests ( resisting Iran’s attempt to be the predominant regional power) , these states have for the last decade cooperated at a certain level. Convenient for Trump (and probably on purpose by both Israel and the Emirs) they have become more public about their friendship. My sense is Isreal and the Sunni Arabis would rather have Trump than Biden in the White House.
I’ve always viewed Obama’s treaty with Iran as accomplishing two things — limiting Iran’s nuclear weapons project and increasing friendship with Iran to provide a balance to US policy in the Middle East. Trump has committed the US not only to Israel but also to the Sunni powers in the Arabian peninsula. However is this in the US interests? What does the US gain by being on the side of Israel and the Sunni Gulf States. Whereas Iran’s objective is to be the regional power, the Wahhabi Saudi family has long involved itself in terrorism and involving themselves in the western Muslim community. From my porch I can see the King Faud education wing of the local mosque — Saudi money means Wahhabi imans not a more moderate voice. The Saudis and the Emirates are acting counter to US interests and quite frankly while Israel loves US money and support they will do what is in their national interest even if its at the expense of the US. Obama’s more balanced meant US interests were served as opposed to Saudi or Israeli interests.

Bahrain has now joined up with Israel and the Emirates and others, no doubt thinking Israel and the good, old United States can help save them from Iranian domination.
The future’s not mine to know, but the possibility of the moment seems that there could be a path to a more settled Middle East, that Israel and friends will grow in strength while Iran and those bowing to its dictates shrivel. Iran, of course, is not through yet despite the ravages of reapplied sanctions and COVID-19. China lately said it would be a beneficent friend, no doubt looking for another toady and lots of oil in its planned mastery of the planet.”

“A federal judge in Pittsburgh on Monday ruled that orders issued by Gov. Tom Wolf restricting the size of gatherings and closing nonessential businesses to protect against the spread of covid-19 were unconstitutional.
In a statement, Wolf said his office will seek an immediate stay to halt the order and file an appeal.
U.S. District Judge William S. Stickman IV wrote in his 66-page opinion that, even though the actions taken in the spring by Wolf and Health Secretary Rachel Levine were laudable, they violated the First Amendment right to freedom of assembly, and the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses of the 14th Amendment.
“It’s a complete and total victory for the counties, the businesses and the representatives,” said attorney Thomas W. King III, who represented the plaintiffs in the case. “You can’t order the entire population of Pennsylvania to stay at home.”
President Trump, in a tweet celebrating the ruling, said: “Congratulations Pennsylvania. Now we await the decision on the Rigged Ballot Scam, which is so bad for our Country!” He went on to retweet more than 20 references to the story.
Lyndsay Kensinger, a spokeswoman for the governor, said they are disappointed in the decision.
“The actions taken by the administration were mirrored by governors across the country and saved, and continue to save, lives in the absence of federal action,” she said. “This decision is especially worrying as Pennsylvania and the rest of the country are likely to face a challenging time with the possible resurgence of covid-19 and the flu in the fall and winter.”
She noted Monday’s order does not apply to the mandatory mask order or the mandatory work-from-home order previously implemented and still in effect.
The plaintiffs in the case included seven businesses and their owners, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Butler, state Reps. Daryl Metcalfe, Marci Mustello and Tim Bonner, as well as Butler, Fayette, Greene and Washington counties. The businesses included three hair salons, an appliance store, a farm and two drive-in theaters.
The complaint was filed May 7, arguing that the governor’s orders — limiting the size of gatherings, the stay-at-home order and the closure of non-life-sustaining businesses — were unconstitutional.
After reviewing the record, Stickman said he “believes that defendants undertook their actions in a well-intentioned effort to protect Pennsylvanians from the virus. However, good intentions toward a laudable end are not alone enough to uphold governmental action against a constitutional challenge.”
Stickman, who was appointed to the bench in 2019, said “even a vigilant public may let down its guard over its constitutional liberties only to find that liberties, once relinquished, are hard to recoup and that restrictions — while expedient in the face of an emergency situation — may persist long after immediate danger has passed.”
King said the judge’s decision finding gathering limits to be unconstitutional now applies to everyone in Pennsylvania.
He said the finding that the stay-at-home order was unconstitutional means it can never be repeated.
As for the closure of nonessential businesses, King believes that will open the door to business owners filing lawsuits against the state seeking relief, or compensation, for their losses during the closure.”

“Two football players on the Little Miami (OH) High School team have been suspended from the team after they defied school officials and carried a thin blue line and thin red line flags, supporting police and firefighters, onto the field before last Friday’s September 11 game.
Senior cornerback Brady Williams, whose father is a police officer, carried the thin blue line flag onto the field. “I was just doing it to honor the people that lost their lives 19 years ago,” Williams told WKRC.
The thin red line flag was carried by Jarad Bentley. His father is a firefighter. “I was all for it,” he told the Cincinnati TV station. “Because my dad is a firefighter, and if it had been him killed on 9/11, I would have wanted someone to do it for him.”
The two players asked school officials for permission to carry the flags, but they were denied. The players chose to defy the school authorities and the school responded by slapping them with an indefinite suspension.”

I feel conflicted about those kids and their flags. On one hand, I think they should have been allowed to carry them, especially since they were not intended as a political statement (although the thin blue line one would probably be taken as political). But on the other hand, they asked and were denied permission, so the school has to follow through with some sort of discipline.

The problem for the police is they have no credibility especially in minority communities. Police mgmt/unions and politicians have failed the beat cop. By failing to discipline police properly and reform police when and where needed they have destroyed public confidence in the police.
The DHS conveniently leaked a document on Antifa — this is supposed to be credible? Published and public documents from the FBI,DHS etc all suggest white supremacists and right wing militia are a far greater threat than antifa. And to suggest that because they use the same tactics, they are organized is a leap in logic or more likely faith. They have the same tactics and techniques because they read the same web pages.
Corruption in the Ukraine is not a news story. Any corporation doing business in the Ukraine participates in corruption. If a corporation didn’t participate in corruption that would be news.
Both Biden and Trump are mocked for their inarticulate speech — you can easily find a video of Trump’s greatest speaking errors. He can’t read off the teleprompter any word more than three syllables and sometimes even less. And frequently he will slur his words. The difference between the two is that Biden is fundamentally a nice guy who will delegate whereas Trump is a narcissist who enjoys power. And Trump will break the law just to reward his narcissism. He broke the indoor social distancing rules in Nevada. You may argue the rules are unnecessary but he did break the rule. When he did this in Tulsa, people got sick and died. We now know he understands the severity of Covid 19 yet he continues to put his supporters in peril to satisfy his need for an adoring audience.

The recent developments in the Middle East are interesting. Recognition of Israel will bring some stability to the region. Turkey used to be Israel’s unrecognized ally in the region but Erdogan changed that — the Turkish military has stopped their long standing association with the Israeli military. The Israelis have long had a problem with Shia militants in southern Lebanon while the Gulf States have problems with Shia groups. With this mutual interests ( resisting Iran’s attempt to be the predominant regional power) , these states have for the last decade cooperated at a certain level. Convenient for Trump (and probably on purpose by both Israel and the Emirs) they have become more public about their friendship. My sense is Isreal and the Sunni Arabis would rather have Trump than Biden in the White House.
I’ve always viewed Obama’s treaty with Iran as accomplishing two things — limiting Iran’s nuclear weapons project and increasing friendship with Iran to provide a balance to US policy in the Middle East. Trump has committed the US not only to Israel but also to the Sunni powers in the Arabian peninsula. However is this in the US interests? What does the US gain by being on the side of Israel and the Sunni Gulf States. Whereas Iran’s objective is to be the regional power, the Wahhabi Saudi family has long involved itself in terrorism and involving themselves in the western Muslim community. From my porch I can see the King Faud education wing of the local mosque — Saudi money means Wahhabi imans not a more moderate voice. The Saudis and the Emirates are acting counter to US interests and quite frankly while Israel loves US money and support they will do what is in their national interest even if its at the expense of the US. Obama’s more balanced meant US interests were served as opposed to Saudi or Israeli interests.

Meanwhile accusations have been made of mass hysterectomies in a privately run ICE detention center. An ICE nurse has accused of a contracted doctor of performing unnecessary hysterectomies. So many, in fact, his nickname was the uterus collector. The class action suit will surely include the federal gov’t especially when the private detention will declare bankruptcy. Performing unnecessary sterilization esp on the basis of ethnicity, income, intelligence etc is considered a crime against humanity.
At what point do taxpayers get fed up for paying law enforcement incompetence?

The antibody component is 10 times smaller than a full-sized antibody, and has been used to create the drug Ab8, shared in the report published by the researchers in the journal Cell on Monday. The drug is seen as a potential preventative against SARS-CoV-2.
According to the report, the drug has been “highly effective in preventing and treating” the SARS-CoV-2 infections in mice and hamsters during tests. The drug also reportedly does not bind to human cells, which suggests it will not have negative side effects in people.
“Ab8 not only has potential as therapy for COVID-19, but it also could be used to keep people from getting SARS-CoV-2 infections,” said co-author John Mellors, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Pitt and UPMC. “Antibodies of larger size have worked against other infectious diseases and have been well tolerated, giving us hope that it could be an effective treatment for patients with COVID-19 and for protection of those who have never had the infection and are not immune.””
