“WHO admits China never reported the existence of coronavirus outbreak”

“The World Health Organization backtracked on its assertion that the Chinese government alerted the United Nations agency about the coronavirus outbreak.

The WHO quietly updated its “Timeline of WHO’s response to COVID-19” on Tuesday following the House Foreign Affairs Committee Republicans’ mid-June Interim Report on Origins of COVID-19 Pandemic (led by ranking member and China task force Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas), which concluded that “despite public reporting to the contrary … China never notified the WHO about the outbreak in Wuhan.” The change was spotted by McCaul and first reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

“I’m glad to see the WHO and the Chinese Communist Party have both read my interim report on the origins of the pandemic and are finally admitting to the world the truth — the CCP never reported the virus outbreak to the WHO in violation of WHO regulations,” McCaul said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “The question now is whether the CCP will continue their false propaganda campaign that continues to claim they warned the world or whether they will come clean and begin to work with the world health community to get to the bottom of this deadly pandemic.”

McCaul’s June report said the WHO found out about the coronavirus outbreak when Chinese media reports about an atypical pneumonia outbreak began to leak online and that the organization also discovered a post on the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases, a U.S.-based open-access platform for early intelligence about outbreaks, on the last day of 2019.”

  2. Equal enforcement is a thing.

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/07/los-angeles-sheriff-will-not-enforce-new-county-order-shutting-down-beaches-for-july-4th/

“Los Angeles Sheriff Will Not Enforce New County Order Shutting Down Beaches for July 4th

Three weeks ago, 100,000 gathered for LA’s BLM protests. Now, for some strange reason, the LA area is seeing a surge in coronavirus cases.”

“Three weeks ago, the Hollywood media proudly proclaimed that over 100,000 attended the Black Lives Matter rallies in Los Angeles.

After more than a week of protests against police violence following the death of George Floyd, Los Angeles saw its largest demonstration so far flood the streets of Hollywood on Sunday. An estimated 100,000 people attended the march, according to Black Lives Matter Los Angeles, which organized the action along with BLD PWR and the rapper YG.

Early crowd size estimates by the LAPD placed the number around 20,000, though the throng of protesters stretched unbroken from the TCL Chinese Theatre all the way to Vine Street and beyond. In addition to the march in Hollywood, Sunday saw dozens of other protests throughout the city, including in downtown Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Compton.

Therefore, it should come as a surprise to nobody with even a modicum of reasoning ability that cases of the Wuhan coronavirus are surging in Los Angeles now.

There were new danger signs Tuesday that the novel coronavirus is spreading more rapidly through Los Angeles County as officials reported the third straight day of more than 2,100 additional confirmed cases.

Officials reported 45 more COVID-19-related deaths and 2,779 more cases. Monday brought L.A.’s highest single-day tally, which pushed the county past 100,000 infections.

“The L.A. County community needs to come together again to slow the spread of COVID-19, and we need to act with haste and urgency,” L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement.

I am not among the risk-averse who are worried at this point. The Centers for Disease Control now says the country has ‘way too much virus’ to control the pandemic. Additionally, it looks like herd immunity may be achievable with fewer infections than initially thought. So, protect the vulnerable, practice good hygiene, and use common sense until scientists develop a vaccine.

Despite the fact the experts now deem that the virus can no longer be contained, California Governor Gavin Newsom is pulling the COVID-trigger. He canceled fireworks and other activities enjoyed by millions of non-protesting and social-distance-practicing Californians ahead of the July 4th holiday.

The governor is imposing the restrictions on indoor activities in advance of the July 4 holiday weekend, when officials fear disaster if Californians continue to ignore safety guidelines and businesses remain open in areas already experiencing significant spikes in COVID-19 infections. Newsom is also recommending the cancellation of all fireworks shows on the Fourth of July in the affected counties, and is urging all Californians to rethink having large get-togethers with friends and neighbors to celebrate the holiday.

“This doesn’t mean restaurants are shut down,” Newsom said. “It means that we’re trying to take the activities, as many activities as we can — these mixed activities, these concentrated activities — and move them outdoors, which is a way of mitigating the spread of this virus.”

In California, the only fireworks that can go off are those associated with looting and rioting.”

  3. Its the sulking attitude of the police that doesn’t win them friends. Upset social distancing rules were ignored at BLM protests, they have responded by not enforcing them elsewhere. Its a temper tantrum — we couldn’t enforce rules against anti-police protests so we’re not going to do our job. This is an illegal job action. The police chief should be fired. The elected council writes the rules, the police enforce (Nuremberg rules apply of course). If you don’t want to enforce, resign.

Last week there was a spate of articles pointing to a lack of corona virus spikes after protests. The Econmists and WSJ both had extensive articles but are behind their firewall. VOX sums up their arguments.
    1) Protests occurred outdoors — most outbreaks are from indoor contact.
    2) Protesters were aware of Covid — they wore masks, wash hands, and in some cases practiced social distancing (in my city, the protests were fairly well spread out and everyone work a mask of some type
    3) Protesters were young
    4) Protesters were only about 6% of the population. In comparison, when a state reopens it involves a greater percentage of the population.
    5) Other people stayed home. It seems black people protesting in the streets motivated others to practice social distancing more than the actual virus.

  5. The grifters pretending to be conservative over at the Lincoln Project are being called out by actual conservatives. 🙂

“Club for Growth Takes on #NeverTrump Lincoln Project ‘Grifters’ in Powerful New Video, Website

“The Lincoln Project has nothing to do with principle, and everything to do with lining the pockets of failed consultants by attacking conservatives,” Club for Growth said in a press release.”

“Mainstream media reporters are fond of lavishing praise on and treating with reverence any prominent Republican (or former Republican) who declares themselves to be a part of the #NeverTrump coalition. Words like “principled” and “courageous” are often tossed around when describing the work the #NeverTrump leaders in the “Lincoln Project” PAC are doing in allegedly exposing President Trump as an inauthentic conservative.

In reality, the story of the Lincoln Project PAC is far less noble and altruistic than the media makes it out to be. So much so that in the midst of the PAC’s recent blitz of tweets and ads showcasing their disdain for Trump and support for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, the conservative Club for Growth Action group started a website focused on exposing the anti-Trump PAC columnist Miranda Devine dubbed “embittered former GOP grifters.”

Here’s what Club for Growth wrote in their announcement:

Club for Growth Action announced the launch of a television advertisement and website (TheRealLincolnProject.com) exposing The Lincoln Project as nothing more than a Democratic front group.

“The Lincoln Project has nothing to do with principle, and everything to do with lining the pockets of failed consultants by attacking conservatives,” said Club for Growth Action President, David McIntosh. “While the group is the darling of the liberal media, the fact is that it’s a Democrat front group and one of the least efficient ways for anti-Trumpers to spend their political dollars.”

    […]

Financial disclosures show that 90% of the Lincoln Project’s donations go directly into their own pockets.”

“LA Mayor Garcetti admits ‘connection’ between coronavirus outbreak and protests, after downplaying link”

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/la-protests-linked-to-covid-spike-garcetti

“”We are certain that there is going to be spread”

“Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Wednesday that public protests are likely causing the number of citywide coronavirus cases to spike, just two days after claiming there wasn’t “any conclusive evidence” showing a connection between the two.

Garcetti, a Democrat, was speaking at a press conference concerning the recent Black Lives Matter protests in Los Angeles when he was asked if the demonstrations were contributing to the spread of COVID-19.

He claimed he’d consulted with Dr. Barbara Ferrer, LA County’s director of public health, and determined the protests were in fact contributing to the spread of the virus.

“I talked again with Dr. Ferrer about that this morning. She does think some of the spread did come from our protests,” he said. “It’s not the act of protesting – that’s a great and American thing to do no matter what your opinion is… but protesting without maintaining physical distancing, without wearing your mask, without having sanitizer – we just have to be smart. Whether you’re at a protest or at your home, whether in your workplace or whether you’re out shopping, these rules don’t change.”

He added, “We do believe there is a connection, we don’t believe that everybody has been doing this safely and wherever you can, please stay at home.””

    ————-

And it’s the same story in all the other large cities with protests.

    ________________________________

~ We live now in the regime and culture of confrontation—ideology as performance, anger as proof of authenticity. You remember how much trouble Joe Biden got into when he bragged about his ability to get along with segregationists in the 1970s. Mr. Biden was preening thoughtlessly on his skill in the arts of the old hypocrisy. Now he has learned his lesson and embraces the left’s idea of honesty—no deviation from the party line or from the officially approved emotions.

~ How do you judge a moment of history when you are in the thick of it? How can you tell if all of this will be remembered as historic or will be superseded and forgotten as another momentary sensation, another self-important mirage? The current moment feels intensely historic now, but we shall see. … ~

~ Raw emotion pours out of social media and into the streets—outrage, with a touch of holiday. On the other side is an oddly silent majority. It seems eerie that so much of the country—the land of “white supremacy,” as the left likes to think of it—gives the appearance of having almost acquiesced, as if it has conceded that the eruptions might be justified and even overdue. … ~

~ All that wild, unearned certainty, all that year-zero zealotry, discredits those who associate themselves with the cause and makes a mockery of their sweet intentions. Much of the white woke rage is radiant with mere self-importance.

~ And it’s going to backfire. Newton’s Third Law of Motion hasn’t been repealed: For every action there is still an equal and opposite reaction. My sense is that there is quietly building a powerful backlash, which will express itself on Nov. 3, if not before. My guess is that polls now showing Mr. Biden far ahead don’t reflect reality. It may be impossible for President Trump to win; for some reason, he collaborates daily with his enemies to sabotage his chances. But the outcome is by no means as certain as the polls now suggest. ~

  11. Interesting commentary — The last paragraph using Newton’s Third Law as an analogy may have missed the action-reaction. Its quite possible that there is no backlash coming because this is the backlash right now. The left is responding to the Trump presidency. That is the reaction. Trump is the action or rather the mis-action.

He refers to fear; fear of the cancel culture and being called a racist. However, it is already a country of fear — fear of immigrants, Mexicans, radicals, leftists, etc. The police justify their budgets by predicting huge swaths of crime and violence if one dollar is taken from their budget. The right governs by fear and lives in fear; you see it when people call the police when black people are in their neighborhood (even as a Fedex driver), when blacks BBQ in the park, when people speak Spanish, etc The US has the highest rate of gun ownership in the world, mostly for protection because they live in fear.

  12. Of course, people may have contracted Covid from protests — anytime you are in a crowd you are at risk. However, the protest were not a hot spot for an outbreak in the same way a Saturday night in a small Florida bar led to about 20 new cases or a political rally in Tulsa can be held responsible for about 20 more.

I was at the beach yesterday. There’s little danger of covid if people keep six feet apart — something most Canadians will do even when there isn’t a pandemic. A beach closure or tightly enforced social distance rules at the beach may or may not be helpful. However, the police are not there to decide — they are to enforce the law not decide what laws are valid. The LAPD is sulking bc BLM was allowed to protest. Its time for the police to grow up or resign.

What I find even more interesting is the lack of tight social distancing rules indoors in the US states with 5000k new cases per day. Restaruants, bars, etc are all open. The reluctance to place health over the economy baffles me even though it shouldn’t — capitalism has a way of placing money over people.

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/hydroxychloroquine-helped-save-coronavirus-study

“Hydroxychloroquine helped save coronavirus patients, study shows; Trump campaign hails ‘fantastic news'”

“Researchers at the Henry Ford Health System in Southeast Michigan have found that early administration of the drug hydroxychloroquine makes hospitalized patients substantially less likely to die.

The study, published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, determined that hydroxychloroquine provided a “66% hazard ratio reduction,” and hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin a 71 percent reduction, compared to neither treatment.

In-hospital mortality was 18.1 percent overall; 13.5 percent with just hydroxychloroquine, 22.4 percent with azithromycin alone, and 26.4 percent with neither drug. “Prospective trials are needed” for further review, the researchers note, even as they concluded: “In this multi-hospital assessment, when controlling for COVID-19 risk factors, treatment with hydroxychloroquine alone and in combination with azithromycin was associated with reduction in COVID-19 associated mortality.”

“Our results do differ from some other studies,” Dr. Marcus Zervos, who heads the hospital’s infectious diseases unit, said at a news conference. “What we think was important in ours … is that patients were treated early. For hydroxychloroquine to have a benefit, it needs to begin before the patients begin to suffer some of the severe immune reactions that patients can have with COVID.”

A statement from the Trump campaign hailed the study as “fantastic news.”

“Fortunately, the Trump Administration secured a massive supply of hydroxychloroquine for the national stockpile months ago,” a statement read. “Yet this is the same drug that the media and the Biden campaign spent weeks trying to discredit and spread fear and doubt around because President Trump dared to mention it as a potential treatment for coronavirus.”

It added: “The new study from the Henry Ford Health System should be a clear message to the media and the Democrats: stop the bizarre attempts to discredit hydroxychloroquine to satisfy your own anti-Trump agenda. It may be costing lives.”

The findings, conservatives said, highlighted efforts by media partisans to undermine confidence in the drug simply to undercut the president.”

As for the speech — I read it. Its a bit bipolar; about half the speech is your typical fourth of July patriotism and then the other half was “American carnage”. The former is what his supporters are discussing while his detractors are discussing the latter. Most amusing anecdote — White Trump supporters telling Lakota protesters “to go back to where came from” or “go home”. Looks like its more than the leftist and college students who need a history lesson. The thing about is history is people pick and choose the past according to their ideology or needs.

    3) painted all the demonstrators who were mostly peaceful as a violent mob; did not express any sympathy for George and other victims of recent police brutality.
    4) declare anyone who opposed him and his ideas as unAmerican and ignorant of history and heritage; not as Americans with a different vision. Btw, calling people unAmerican and claiming to protect heritage and history is the right wing equivalent to the social left’s cancel culture. 27. Copyright laws are extremely similar throughout the OECD and more broadly the WTO. Its not so much a US law as international law. The dates of patent protection may vary but essentially its the same. The quote you give would cover Like a Hurricane but not Rockin in Free World. So perhaps not the letter of the law but the spirit of the law; corporations normally ask artists for an okay even without copyright protection as its seen bad for business but Republicans don’t seem to understand courtesy in this department. But by all means keep singing

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
    Under an old street light
    Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she’s gone to get a hit
    She hates her life,
and what she’s done to it
    There’s one more kid
that will never go to school

We got a thousand points of light
    For the homeless man
    We got a kinder, gentler,
    Machine gun hand
    We got department stores
    and toilet paper
    Got styrofoam boxes
    for the ozone layer

The chorus “Rockin in the Free World” is satire.

Interestingly one of the few exemptions in international patent law is the absurdly long patents the US gives drug companies on drugs they developed mostly using taxpayer funds. Its one of the reasons drugs are so expensive in the US. The rest of the world believes health care is a right, the US treats it like a business. Case in point; Gilead is charging over $3,000 for their Covid treatment, most of the research was funded by the gov’t.

  29. The Stone Mountain video is horrible. I wasn’t sure what I was seeing but according to an article I read; marches by armed militias on Stone Mountain are fairly common. Park officials stated they simple respect marchers First and Second Amendments – no matter the group. Good work on their part, perhaps park officials would make better police than the State or City cops. It seems a well organized multi-racial group (mainly black). Well behaved and well disciplined. My guess is they had a permit and were expected. A permit would be needed to avoid opposing groups marching on the same days. Professionalism and courtesy on both sides (well except the actual monument).

However, this doesn’t’ discount the idea that if black militias stormed a state capital, pushed and shoved police to get in, yelled and hurled insults at theme, etc, they would be treated differently. In others words a misbehaving black militia would be treated differently. We can see this in how police treat black individuals — a black man informed police he was carrying a legal sidearm; they shot him. The second amendment is rarely applied to blacks. The comparison is self evident.

  34. Curious — were all fireworks banned? And was this as covid precaution or for fire prevention? I can understand cancelling and banning large scale fireworks that normally attract a large crowds — this prevents hop pointx or outbreaks of covid. However, individual backyard fireworks shouldn’t be a problem unless it was for fire prevention (ie in Mt Rushmore fireworks were banned as fire prevention). In Ontario, city or corporate sponsored fireworks were cancelled for Canada Day but fireworks were allowed in family celebrations (mind you I think we have a limit on type of fireworks available) Mind you, if Ontario had the same rate of new cases as California, fireworks would be the least of our gov’ts concerns. They would be shutting the whole province down.

  35. I think some of your articles refer to the third demonstration. The first time the assembly was in session and some members felt/were threatened. They adjourned for both covid and the threat of more armed demonstrations.

The police allowed about 100 armed people into the legislature — do you seriously think they would’ve allowed 100 black panthers in? Once in, the militia confronted the guards and were in their face yelling from inches away. During a pandemic, yelling so close to an individual that spittle is inevitable should be considered assault. In one case, an axe was confiscated but no arrest was made — do you seriously think a black man would get away with carrying an axe around police? When you see police attack peaceful demonstrators and even the press, I think the answer is obvious.

In retrospect, the white militias should apologize to the governor. She was right. Michigan now has 3-400 new cases a day while DeSantis’ Florida is at 10, 000 a day. And DeSantis had the advantage of seeing what happened in the north east and could have acted according to lessons learned. I think its no coincidence that a female leader valued health over economy as opposed to male leaders. This seems to be the general trend worldwide — I think I’ll vote for women from now on.
