“Acollege senior raised in a conservative household now posting Black Lives Matter propaganda on her Instagram account. A son-in-law berating his wife’s self-made millionaire family about racism and Donald Trump. A twentysomething graduate of one of the country’s top universities informing his attentive, loving parents that he’s ashamed of how he was raised in a mostly white suburb. Parents bullied by their children into posting Black Lives Matters memes and George Floyd condolences on social media. A biracial couple on the verge of a break-up over disagreements on race, protests, and riots.
Those are just a few of the stories I’ve heard recently from friends and relatives dealing with the consequences of the country’s ongoing racial strife. Dissent, or even mild disagreement, are not allowed. The Left is tearing the country apart on both the macro and the micro level as families and friendships are shredded over accusations of “systemic racism.”
Now, admittedly, children condemning their parents for how they were raised is nothing new. Generational revolt is a rite of passage in America. But friends once debated politics without ending up in fisticuffs. And while presidential election years always are fraught with tension and terse discourse, the Trump era has been a nonstop temper tantrum from the Left.
The unique danger underpinning the current calamity, obviously, is the added fuel in the form of social media. Teens and young adults don’t read papers or watch network news; according to a 2018 poll, more than one-third of adults ages 18 to 39 list social media as their primary source for news. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook rule the news cycle. And information is rarely posted without comment—consumers are told how to interpret the article or video before they have a chance to view it independently. Groupthink takes over; mobs are incited, cities burn, minds are poisoned, detractors are silenced, and the country unravels bit by bit.
The purpose of the latest uprising is the same purpose that has been animating the Left in this country for nearly four years: to oust Donald Trump from the White House. Before the twin blows of coronavirus and racial strife, Trump looked like a sure bet for reelection. After a failed Russian collusion hoax, a failed special counsel probe, and a failed impeachment attempt, Trump was well-positioned to defeat a feeble-minded, baggage-laden Joe Biden. Democrats effectively have leveraged both crises for maximum political gain while hiding Biden in his basement.
Social media moguls, hostile to Donald Trump and part of the ruling corporate Left, also are exploiting the unrest as an excuse to censor the president—and they’re not even trying to hide it. The same platforms that have promoted lies about everything from Trump-Russia collusion to Catholic high schoolers disrespecting a “native elder” have developed a sudden interest in acting as the internet’s truth-sayers.
“The 2020 elections were already shaping up to be heated and that was before we all faced the additional complexities of voting during a pandemic and protests for racial justice across the country,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote Friday in announcing his company’s new censorship policies. “During this moment, Facebook will take extra precautions to help everyone stay safe, stay informed, and ultimately use their voice where it matters most—voting.”
As Liz Sheld detailed Monday, the company is folding to intense pressure from employees, corporations, and activist groups to silence Trump and his supporters just four months before Election Day.
Lifting language from an Ayn Rand novel, Zuckerberg disclosed he’s been advised by “civil rights auditors” to develop portals that will offer “authoritative” information on voting rights. This will include any attempt to disparage mail-in ballots, a priority for Democrats as they prepare to steal various elections: “[S]haring authoritative information on voting by mail will be especially important,” he promised.
Facebook and other platforms also are thwarting the Trump campaign’s digital advertising game, a key part of his reelection strategy. Dozens of Trump campaign ads were removed from Facebook last month after activists insisted the posts included “pro-Nazi” symbols. Trump, who has a significant cash advantage over Biden, spent nearly $2 million in Facebook ads the last week of June alone; Zuckerberg’s censors will make sure paid ads meet a different standard: “We already restrict certain types of content in ads that we allow in regular posts, but we want to do more to prohibit the kind of divisive and inflammatory language that has been used to sow discord.” Rest assured that vague rule only will apply to Team Trump and Republicans.”

Take what happened to a Michigan State University researcher.
Michigan State University leaders have successfully pressured Stephen Hsu to resign from his position as vice president of research and innovation after the Graduate Employees Union launched a campaign to oust him from his role.
This came after the union, which represents teaching and research assistants, crawled through years of blog posts and interviews Hsu had conducted and criticized him for sharing content on genetic differences among different races.
But the main thrust to oust Hsu came because the professor touted Michigan State research that found police are not more likely to shoot African-Americans.
“The victory of the Twitter mob will likely have a chilling effect on academic freedom on campus,” Hsu told The College Fix via email.
Hsu will stay on as a physics professor as Michigan State, but his gig as vice president of research and innovation was gone because he touted the wrong research.
In particular, he held up research done by the university that found that police aren’t as racist as groups like Black Lives Matter like to pretend them to be.
More troubling, though, is that the union that called for Hsu’s head also thinks politics should determine what studies get promoted and which don’t.
The graduate union told The Fix that administrators should not share research that runs counter to public statements by the university.
“It is the union’s position that an administrator sharing such views is in opposition to MSU’s statements released supporting the protests and their root cause and aim,” Ackles wrote in an e-mail to The College Fix.
That’s right. It doesn’t matter if the study is factual or not. It doesn’t matter whether the methodology is sound or not. What matters is whether or not the studies support a given ideology or not.
And people wonder why so many gun folks aren’t crazy about taxpayer dollars being used for gun violence research. It’s a total mystery.”

Regarding China, Trump has already shifted the entire paradigm of our national approach to this adversary. The recent deception by the Chinese Communist Party quite literally infected the world and crashed the global economy, awakening the U.S. public to the reality Trump has long ascertained and described. Given the criminal actions of the Beijing regime, President Trump’s second term will laser-focus on confronting this threat, particularly to the prosperity of American workers. Your first link had me muttering OK Boomer until I check a bio and found she was roughly my age. Political arguments within family are nothing new. Perhaps what is new is the millennials, now reaching their 30s, no longer tolerating boomers at the dinner. Its been a long ride for the boomers but demographics are no longer on their side and another generation is speaking up. To describe the current politics as unprecedented in terms of animosity is to be ignorant in history — look at the antebellum era, the fighting in the streets of the late 60s, etc. The eight years of Obama featured silly fits from FOX complaining about arugula, tan suits, bicycle helmets and golf trips.
As for social media, both sides of the political spectrum criticize Facebook. Zuckerberg has a fairly good relationship with Trump and presents himself as non-political. The site itself is open to a lot of diverse and sometimes weird ideas. However, there’s been pressure for Facebook to be more socially responsible and fact check. In addition corporations have pressured Facebook to clean up its act. Facebook then will be tighter this election year — but its not a political bias rather corporate profits which will push the algorithm. People do get their news from social media — cable news is dying, but the younger generation is far more adept at critical consumption.

About a week ago, I posted a link to an article which had a graph showing the peak and decline of covid in various western nations. Only in the US, it peaked, declined a little and then started to peak again and the US is setting records for new cases. American gave up the fight in exchange for the economy — essentially service employees, the elderly, etc were sacrificed in order to open the economy earlier.
Florida just reported 10 000 new cases — No European nation, even Italy and Spain nor Canada ever reported that many cases in one day. Canada with a higher pop than Florida only once reported more than 2000 new cases. As the cases have declined in the western world, the US which encountered coronovirus at the same time is still fighting the disease along with Brazil, Russia, and India. The EU is opening up for travel from almost the entire western world except the United States. Americans are still banned from Europe along with Latin Americans and Africans
The shortage in PPE at the early stages was made worse by the interference by Kushner and others from the Trump admin. And was made worse when states were forced to bid against each other.
By any standard, the US response is one of the worst in the western world, only the UK comes close.. I’m not blaming Trump personally — the US administrative state has been in decline since Reagan. And the rush to reopen in the southern republican states has been misguided and perhaps criminal. Of interest — Trump only created about 20 miles of new wall along the border. The rest was replacement and repairs to existing walls. Obama built more, rather ironic. He hasn’t done a good job of closing the borders off — however, Canada is now putting out barriers to prevent American entry.
But you are right — the American voter decides not me. Currently Biden is ahead by about 9% and the disapproval rate is roughly -15%. There’s plenty of time but its not looking good for him.
I stand by my prior points about the South and what I view as it’s traitorous acts. I think these statues, in the case of Lee and his ilk, would best be displayed in a museum as part of a larger telling of their significance, horrible as it was. I too would take down such monuments in public squares. But their historical relevance is indisputable. What they did was reprehensible and one the greatest stains on our nation largely to protect another of our worse stains, slavery. 620,000 of our fellow countrymen dead. It’s not abortion level numbers, but it’s the runner up.
But the difference is I would do it in the right, just, and legal way. Thru legislation, debates, and a majority of votes. Not by rioting hordes of idiots destroying public and private property.

“More than 70 percent of small businesses have received financial support from the PPP loans and have benefited from various other provisions, like delayed tax filing deadlines, two-year delay in employer payroll tax payments, and expansions of tax loss rules,” Michel said, adding that support for such policies has been bipartisan.”

Museums don’t need the statutes. Despite the Civil Rights Act the statues have remained there. I can forgive people for being impatient. They have no historical value. As for other statues — they probably would not have attracted as much attention if others had been willing to compromise and pull down the Confederacy statues. Pent up frustration increases the demand.
Almost every country provided assistance to both corporations and people. The US programs are nothing special. What struck me about the US aid package was how corporate and employer oriented it was with a hope it would trickle down. In most countries the aid focused on individuals; many Europeans suspended mortgage and rent payments, support benefits increased, etc. My daughter lost her PT job and has been collecting $500 a week as an emergency benefit. This benefit has been extended to September. Instead of giving her employer money, the gov’t gave it directly to her.
However, my feeble response comment was more about the actual coronavirus plan. Trump ignored it too long. He was too slow to react and the US was behind almost right away. And then when the US had reached the peak and was coming down, the Republicans were too quick to reopen because the economy concerned them more than the lives of seniors and service employees. My province which has about 200 new cases a day has a more stringent social distancing etc policy than Florida which has over 10 000 new cases a day. The Republican governor is more concerned about the economy than the people. Contrast this to Michigan where the Democratic governor refused to bend to Trump’s demand she reopen the state. Michigan now has about 600 new cases a day. I also think its no accident it was a female governor was concerned about people’s health rather than the economy unlike Florida’s male governor.
The strange think about this is the simple fact that those who valued health over the economy are now reopening the economy whereas in the US, states are muddling through both. I also wonder if Americans are aware that they can no longer travel — they are barred from entry worldwide as other nations consider it too risky to allow Americans in their country. The total new cases in the US today was over 57 000 — that’s incredible and there’s no excuse.
When you post a video in which somebody yells “white power” and you don’t provide context, you are implying approval. Even if the Trump supporter was an undercover leftist trying to make Trump look bad, Trump did post the video and did not distance himself from the white power statement of his supposed supporter. Why post a video of someone holding signs supporting yelling white power unless you approved or at the very least don’t care. At the very least it shows incredibly bad judgment.

The blood libel grew out of an incident that took place in Norwich, England, in 1144. On Good Friday a woodsman discovered the body of a missing child in a forest near his home. The man claimed that young William’s death had to be the work of Jews because no Christian would have murdered a child so brutally.
The boy’s distraught family agreed. The authorities did not. They firmly stated that there was no proof that any Jew was involved. No one was punished for the child’s death.
Five years later, a monk named Thomas of Monmouth arrived in Norwich. After hearing the gossip, he decided that the boy’s death was no ordinary murder. It was a ritual murder. He claimed that the Jews were reenacting the crucifixion. He charged that every year they killed an innocent child in much the way they killed Christ. He insisted that in 1144 the country they chose was England.
The city was Norwich.
And the chosen child was William of Norwich.
Within just 50 years’ time, Christians in eight European cities had accused Jews of ritual murder. In the German town of Fulda in 1255 a new element was added to those charges.”

Parents bullied by their children into posting Black Lives Matters memes and George Floyd condolences on social media. A biracial couple on the verge of a break-up over disagreements on race, protests, and riots.
Those are just a few of the stories I’ve heard recently from friends and relatives dealing with the consequences of the country’s ongoing racial strife. Dissent, or even mild disagreement, are not allowed. The Left is tearing the country apart on both the macro and the micro level as families and friendships are shredded over accusations of “systemic racism.”
Now, admittedly, children condemning their parents for how they were raised is nothing new. Generational revolt is a rite of passage in America. But friends once debated politics without ending up in fisticuffs. And while presidential election years always are fraught with tension and terse discourse, the Trump era has been a nonstop temper tantrum from the Left.
The unique danger underpinning the current calamity, obviously, is the added fuel in the form of social media. Teens and young adults don’t read papers or watch network news; according to a 2018 poll, more than one-third of adults ages 18 to 39 list social media as their primary source for news. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook rule the news cycle. And information is rarely posted without comment—consumers are told how to interpret the article or video before they have a chance to view it independently. Groupthink takes over; mobs are incited, cities burn, minds are poisoned, detractors are silenced, and the country unravels bit by bit.
The purpose of the latest uprising is the same purpose that has been animating the Left in this country for nearly four years: to oust Donald Trump from the White House. Before the twin blows of coronavirus and racial strife, Trump looked like a sure bet for reelection. After a failed Russian collusion hoax, a failed special counsel probe, and a failed impeachment attempt, Trump was well-positioned to defeat a feeble-minded, baggage-laden Joe Biden. Democrats effectively have leveraged both crises for maximum political gain while hiding Biden in his basement.
Social media moguls, hostile to Donald Trump and part of the ruling corporate Left, also are exploiting the unrest as an excuse to censor the president—and they’re not even trying to hide it. The same platforms that have promoted lies about everything from Trump-Russia collusion to Catholic high schoolers disrespecting a “native elder” have developed a sudden interest in acting as the internet’s truth-sayers.
“The 2020 elections were already shaping up to be heated and that was before we all faced the additional complexities of voting during a pandemic and protests for racial justice across the country,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote Friday in announcing his company’s new censorship policies. “During this moment, Facebook will take extra precautions to help everyone stay safe, stay informed, and ultimately use their voice where it matters most—voting.”
As Liz Sheld detailed Monday, the company is folding to intense pressure from employees, corporations, and activist groups to silence Trump and his supporters just four months before Election Day.
Lifting language from an Ayn Rand novel, Zuckerberg disclosed he’s been advised by “civil rights auditors” to develop portals that will offer “authoritative” information on voting rights. This will include any attempt to disparage mail-in ballots, a priority for Democrats as they prepare to steal various elections: “[S]haring authoritative information on voting by mail will be especially important,” he promised.
Facebook and other platforms also are thwarting the Trump campaign’s digital advertising game, a key part of his reelection strategy. Dozens of Trump campaign ads were removed from Facebook last month after activists insisted the posts included “pro-Nazi” symbols. Trump, who has a significant cash advantage over Biden, spent nearly $2 million in Facebook ads the last week of June alone; Zuckerberg’s censors will make sure paid ads meet a different standard: “We already restrict certain types of content in ads that we allow in regular posts, but we want to do more to prohibit the kind of divisive and inflammatory language that has been used to sow discord.” Rest assured that vague rule only will apply to Team Trump and Republicans.”

“The left likes to call anyone to the right of them: “anti-science.” They say that because we don’t buy the hysteria on things like climate change and similar topics, of course, which is fine. They can call us whatever they like. After all, they’re going to do it anyway.
However, the truth is that they’re not as pro-science as they like to argue.
Take what happened to a Michigan State University researcher.
Michigan State University leaders have successfully pressured Stephen Hsu to resign from his position as vice president of research and innovation after the Graduate Employees Union launched a campaign to oust him from his role.
This came after the union, which represents teaching and research assistants, crawled through years of blog posts and interviews Hsu had conducted and criticized him for sharing content on genetic differences among different races.
But the main thrust to oust Hsu came because the professor touted Michigan State research that found police are not more likely to shoot African-Americans.
“The victory of the Twitter mob will likely have a chilling effect on academic freedom on campus,” Hsu told The College Fix via email.
Hsu will stay on as a physics professor as Michigan State, but his gig as vice president of research and innovation was gone because he touted the wrong research.
In particular, he held up research done by the university that found that police aren’t as racist as groups like Black Lives Matter like to pretend them to be.
More troubling, though, is that the union that called for Hsu’s head also thinks politics should determine what studies get promoted and which don’t.
The graduate union told The Fix that administrators should not share research that runs counter to public statements by the university.
“It is the union’s position that an administrator sharing such views is in opposition to MSU’s statements released supporting the protests and their root cause and aim,” Ackles wrote in an e-mail to The College Fix.
That’s right. It doesn’t matter if the study is factual or not. It doesn’t matter whether the methodology is sound or not. What matters is whether or not the studies support a given ideology or not.
And people wonder why so many gun folks aren’t crazy about taxpayer dollars being used for gun violence research. It’s a total mystery.”

He’s a contractor, not famous, but he wrestles with the big questions of politics and policy. After realizing he’s a conservative, he gets grief from his family of Democrats.
Jackson refuses to be herded out of fear. And that makes him heroic.
Right now, at this time, “Uncle Tom” just might be the most important film out there. The woke world priests won’t clamor to have it out on streaming services such as Netflix, because the left doesn’t want to acknowledge that Black conservatives exist.”

These numbers mark the second month of both increasing jobs and dropping unemployment since the country lost a record 20.5 million jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic closures.”

Your first link had me muttering OK Boomer until I check a bio and found she was roughly my age. Political arguments within family are nothing new. Perhaps what is new is the millennials, now reaching their 30s, no longer tolerating boomers at the dinner. Its been a long ride for the boomers but demographics are no longer on their side and another generation is speaking up. To describe the current politics as unprecedented in terms of animosity is to be ignorant in history — look at the antebellum era, the fighting in the streets of the late 60s, etc. The eight years of Obama featured silly fits from FOX complaining about arugula, tan suits, bicycle helmets and golf trips.
As for social media, both sides of the political spectrum criticize Facebook. Zuckerberg has a fairly good relationship with Trump and presents himself as non-political. The site itself is open to a lot of diverse and sometimes weird ideas. However, there’s been pressure for Facebook to be more socially responsible and fact check. In addition corporations have pressured Facebook to clean up its act. Facebook then will be tighter this election year — but its not a political bias rather corporate profits which will push the algorithm. People do get their news from social media — cable news is dying, but the younger generation is far more adept at critical consumption.
The cancelled ad featuring a red inverted triangle can be seen as a reference to the Nazi badge for leftist prisoners. Recent actions by Trump — tweeting a video where a man yells “White Power”, using the term “kung flu” and now adopting a new logo that resembles a nazi logo indicates he and his campaign don’t care anymore. https://globalnews.ca/news/7130932/trump-nazi-eagle-logo-america-first/
Finally, the author’s assertion that Trump would have easily won until the coronovirus and BLM marches is weird. It would have been incredibly close but Biden was ahead or tied in the states that matter. Now he is much further ahead.

The economy relies on constant stimulus to keep moving, throwing trillions at the stock market so the numbers look good. Withdrawing test funding so the numbers look good. The unemployment figures are suspect and have only improved because Republican governors opened their states to early sacrificing low paying service workers so the numbers look good. Zero Hedge, admittedly a right wing crank site that my “gold” friends quote as reliable for stats, reports the BLS has noticed a glitch in the labor survey resulting in a 1 to 3 % lower unemployment rate….. Trump is building a Potemkin village.
The term Great Protector is interesting — Tudor/Stuart historians will see a reference to the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell. The Trump admin and campaign’s fondness for dictatorial references may be unintentional but does reveal a thought process.

People should be responsible for their social media messages. Employers will take action when its deemed inappropriate for the profession or corporate image. This has happened to enough people for various reasons, I’m amazed people are still surprised it happens to them. If you post something advocating violence or racism, you should be held responsible — advocating police use extreme measures, encourage shooting, or racist chants — all should be enough for someone to lose their accounts and possibly their jobs.
When you post something which has racist chants, you are in fact approving of this chant, esp if its without comment or context. The person who yelled “white power” was in fact the Trump supporter in the golf cart adorned with pro-Trump messages. The lefty was calling him out but its the Trump supporter who said white power. Why post something unless you agree with it?
No one is accusing Trump of being a Nazi but the dog whistles have become a bull horn.

About a week ago, I posted a link to an article which had a graph showing the peak and decline of covid in various western nations. Only in the US, it peaked, declined a little and then started to peak again and the US is setting records for new cases. American gave up the fight in exchange for the economy — essentially service employees, the elderly, etc were sacrificed in order to open the economy earlier.
Florida just reported 10 000 new cases — No European nation, even Italy and Spain nor Canada ever reported that many cases in one day. Canada with a higher pop than Florida only once reported more than 2000 new cases. As the cases have declined in the western world, the US which encountered coronovirus at the same time is still fighting the disease along with Brazil, Russia, and India. The EU is opening up for travel from almost the entire western world except the United States. Americans are still banned from Europe along with Latin Americans and Africans
The shortage in PPE at the early stages was made worse by the interference by Kushner and others from the Trump admin. And was made worse when states were forced to bid against each other.
By any standard, the US response is one of the worst in the western world, only the UK comes close.. I’m not blaming Trump personally — the US administrative state has been in decline since Reagan. And the rush to reopen in the southern republican states has been misguided and perhaps criminal. Not sure why you mention the pretty boy who runs Canada as you should know by now I’ve never voted for him or his party. I find it interesting the three provinces responsible for over 90% of Covid cases are run by right wing populists. I sense a pattern — UK, US, and right wing populist premiers in Canada didn’t do well. Meanwhile, countries run by left wing young women did extremely well.

Is Trump really protecting American monuments or is it Confederate monuments? You know, memorials to traitors and losers. You’ve had this argument with Ricky years ago in which you argued there was no need for statues to traitors and losers — I remember since its one of the few times you and I agreed and argued against Ricky at the same time.
Is he protecting the economy? At what cost? Forcing people to work and putting them at risk just to creating better numbers. And does the stock market in which the admin threw 7 trillion dollars actually reflect reality? This week the stock market valued Tesla higher than Toyota. The stock market has no reflection in reality. As for the constitution etc — the left will argue the opposite, it all depends on how you interpret the constitution and Trump’s actions.
Of interest — Trump only created about 20 miles of new wall along the border. The rest was replacement and repairs to existing walls. Obama built more, rather ironic. He hasn’t done a good job of closing the borders off — however, Canada is now putting out barriers to prevent American entry.
But you are right — the American voter decides not me. Currently Biden is ahead by about 9% and the disapproval rate is roughly -15%. There’s plenty of time but its not looking good for him.

I stand by my prior points about the South and what I view as it’s traitorous acts. I think these statues, in the case of Lee and his ilk, would best be displayed in a museum as part of a larger telling of their significance, horrible as it was. I too would take down such monuments in public squares. But their historical relevance is indisputable. What they did was reprehensible and one the greatest stains on our nation largely to protect another of our worse stains, slavery. 620,000 of our fellow countrymen dead. It’s not abortion level numbers, but it’s the runner up.
But the difference is I would do it in the right, just, and legal way. Thru legislation, debates, and a majority of votes. Not by rioting hordes of idiots destroying public and private property.
And let’s not forget, the idiots have gone well beyond them to Lincoln, Columbus, Mt. Rushmore, The Emancipation Statue, and numerous other that had nothing to do with slavery, or as in Lincoln’s case, were on the right side. It’s way past time to be harsher with these miscreants.
Add to all this the left wants to abolish police. That would be a very bad idea. At this point they’re the only ones protecting rioters from some good old fashioned vigilante justice. Careful what you wish for.

“It ignores the success of the PPP, which has helped roughly five million small business owners, including the one featured in the ad itself,” Ortiz said. “The fact that the Biden campaign couldn’t even find a small business owner who hadn’t received PPP funds demonstrates the incompetence of the Biden brand, and just how expansive President Trump’s relief efforts have been.”
Administered through the federal government’s Small Business Administration, PPP gave small businesses loans that were forgivable if the money was used to pay staff. When Easley received the PPP loan, in addition to smaller grants from local relief funds, she said she was optimistic about her business.
“I was surprised, because if you listen to the news, they were so quick to say all the money was gone,” Easley said in April. “I have a good feeling, I think we’ll be ok. I just think it’s gonna take some time to get there.”
Adam Michel, a senior policy analyst for the Heritage Foundation, pushed back against the claim that the government left businesses behind during the pandemic.
“The federal coronavirus response has been nothing short of extraordinary,” Michel said in an email.
“More than 70 percent of small businesses have received financial support from the PPP loans and have benefited from various other provisions, like delayed tax filing deadlines, two-year delay in employer payroll tax payments, and expansions of tax loss rules,” Michel said, adding that support for such policies has been bipartisan.”

Museums don’t need the statutes. Despite the Civil Rights Act the statues have remained there. I can forgive people for being impatient. They have no historical value. As for other statues — they probably would not have attracted as much attention if others had been willing to compromise and pull down the Confederacy statues. Pent up frustration increases the demand.
Almost every country provided assistance to both corporations and people. The US programs are nothing special. What struck me about the US aid package was how corporate and employer oriented it was with a hope it would trickle down. In most countries the aid focused on individuals; many Europeans suspended mortgage and rent payments, support benefits increased, etc. My daughter lost her PT job and has been collecting $500 a week as an emergency benefit. This benefit has been extended to September. Instead of giving her employer money, the gov’t gave it directly to her.
However, my feeble response comment was more about the actual coronavirus plan. Trump ignored it too long. He was too slow to react and the US was behind almost right away. And then when the US had reached the peak and was coming down, the Republicans were too quick to reopen because the economy concerned them more than the lives of seniors and service employees. My province which has about 200 new cases a day has a more stringent social distancing etc policy than Florida which has over 10 000 new cases a day. The Republican governor is more concerned about the economy than the people. Contrast this to Michigan where the Democratic governor refused to bend to Trump’s demand she reopen the state. Michigan now has about 600 new cases a day. I also think its no accident it was a female governor was concerned about people’s health rather than the economy unlike Florida’s male governor.
The strange think about this is the simple fact that those who valued health over the economy are now reopening the economy whereas in the US, states are muddling through both. I also wonder if Americans are aware that they can no longer travel — they are barred from entry worldwide as other nations consider it too risky to allow Americans in their country. The total new cases in the US today was over 57 000 — that’s incredible and there’s no excuse.

When you post a video in which somebody yells “white power” and you don’t provide context, you are implying approval. Even if the Trump supporter was an undercover leftist trying to make Trump look bad, Trump did post the video and did not distance himself from the white power statement of his supposed supporter. Why post a video of someone holding signs supporting yelling white power unless you approved or at the very least don’t care. At the very least it shows incredibly bad judgment.

The city was Norwich.
And the chosen child was William of Norwich.
Within just 50 years’ time, Christians in eight European cities had accused Jews of ritual murder. In the German town of Fulda in 1255 a new element was added to those charges.”
