A while ago I asked for opinions on dishwashers. We ordered one from Lowes but it was out of stock. It came in yesterday and Hubby is on his way to pick it up.
As I recall, I mentioned we had reached that point a week ago. People have lost any respect for the police force. Not all, of course but enough to cause serious challenges. But what will they be replaced with? Not something better, for sure. Something quite intrusive, I imagine. Drones? Facial recognition? Listening devices? Watching in the homes? China anybody? Wait, we are already there. Now, to just make the use of such legal.
Dishwashers: as mentioned, I have been trying to use mine for several weeks now after not using it at all for several years. Basically have to wash everything before putting things in but it does clean up the kitchen more. Though it didn’t last night as I did not get to them, spent too much time out scything. Scything is addictive.
Not much of a dishwasher if you have to wash before putting things in. 😦 One thing that can stick on my dishes is cinnamon. I will rinse those good and rewash if it hasn’t all been removed. My husband uses it on his oatmeal. Also, charring from barbeque. Otherwise, using normal works for everything and using pots and pans cycle for really stuck on stuff works. Just thoroughly scraping. We put in dishes as we go, just thoroughly scraping them for the most part. Have you tried different dish washing detergent?
I doubt the police unions will allow much dismantling unless their members will be put into the new alternatives and then what is the point?
I get a little annoyed about hearing that only blacks are shot and killed by police. The white family down our road who had a loved one (white) shot and killed by the police would be quite surprised to hear that. It is all sad.
Dishwashers: Ours is a GE Profile so supposed to be pretty good according to Consumer Reports. I should have said I rinse before putting them in the washer. Trying to train family to do so. They are not allowed to put any dishes in the dishwasher as their views of rinsing and mine differ. Perhaps years of nonuse caused some of the sprayers to clog.

🙂 I have gotten walks at least four days in a row (I’ve gotten outside at least some every day for more than a month), a total of at least 15 miles in those four days. I have also walked all of two local trails and good portions of two others.
🙂 Our “personal shopper” is still willing to buy groceries for us every other week. My husband and I are choosing our ice cream flavors. We already chose our varieties of fruit.
😦 By now my family is beginning to gather for the family reunion. We won’t be a part, as a worldwide pandemic doesn’t seem an ideal time to gather family (a bunch of them sixty-somethings with health issues) from eight or nine states. I do hate not being there, and if I were single I would go, considering the risk to myself mild. The risk to my husband (or staying isolated from him for two weeks afterward, which he suggested) is too great a cost.
🙂 Did I mention it’s June and time for summer fruit and ice cream?
🙂 And the longest days of the year, warm weather, wildflowers and butterflies, and my birthday later in the month.
Yes, it is wise to not let people put dishes in when they won’t scrape or rinse them well. With only my husband and I in this household it is not a problem. I have had two dishwashers and neither was really expensive. I have used ones that are not as good in houses in which they were installed before my daughters bought the house. Those were frustrating to use.

🙂 I have been so happy to see things pretty peaceful in Detroit. There have been demonstrations daily for over a week. There was trouble only a couple of nights early on, and it seemed to be mostly caused by people going downtown from other nearby cities. Sadly, there was one shooting death the first or second night, but it did not involve a police officer. In those first few nights when things were tense the police showed great restraint for the most part. The chief (who is black) has made very clear that the respects the right to protest, that he feels and sympathizes with the pain, and that he condemns the murder of blacks by police, BUT that the police will act as needed to stop violent outbreaks.
Canadian police officers are all ‘peace officers’ That is how it is written in the Criminal Code to cover all law enforcement officers including police, game wardens, conservation officers, etc.
I think those in NYC are suggesting the title “peace officer” to mean hands off , no weapons and let’s just have a conversation about one’s bad behavior 😳
🙂 We saw a wonderful answer to prayer this week. Our friends Amie and Steve have been missionaries in Southeast Asia for over 25 years. Amie was diagnosed in January with an eye problem affecting her vision that would get worse if not fixed. They scheduled surgery to be in May in the country where they serve.
In March they made a “quick trip” to the States to visit their grown sons and to help their aging parents. Then everything started shutting down and they couldn’t get back to Asia for the surgery. Not the end of the world, they just rescheduled it for August by which time they expected to be able to return.
In the last week of May their agency announced a change to their health insurance carrier, effective July 1, and the new plan would not cover a pre-existing condition for one year. So they had to find an eye surgeon who could see Amie and do the surgery within a month. In their first few calls they could do no better than get an initial appointment late in June, with little time to spare for the surgery.
They sent a prayer request this past Wednesday morning, asking for her to find a highly-qualified in-network surgeon who could see her sooner, even this week, and operate before June 30.
Later on Wednesday they wrote that Amie had an appointment early Friday morning with one of the top retinal surgeons in the area, and that if he agreed with the diagnosis and surgery plan he would probably operate the same day.
By noon Friday Amie was home emailing a picture of her smiling self wearing an eye patch, reporting that the surgery had been completed without complications, two days after we had prayed.
This “old man” is hungry for some good news.
Rush says to turn off the TV. But it serves a purpose here.
This seems so useless to me. Including the virus shut down. Though it doesn’t affect me directly because I have no place to go.
It just seems so silly.
I doubt a lot of those businesses will reopen if the police department is dismantled. especially when some of those advocating it have praised and supported Antifa.
I doubt that police departments will be dismantled. Human beings tend to talk to extremes but seldom live up to their talk. But I was thinking, I agree there is corruption and racism present in the police force, and that minorities are frequently unfairly targeted by police on a power trip. In Canada, it is the First Nations’ communities that often suffer at the hands of a power drunk officer, and I have seen that racism first hand. After all, John the Baptist told the law enforcement officials of his day not to abuse their ability to use force, indicating that the temptation to push people around is common to law enforcement throughout time and space. On the other hand, I have found myself thinking that ‘white’ people would be far more of a threat without law enforcement. We Canadians have just witnessed what happens when a ‘white’ criminal gets out of control and have been mourning, among others, a fallen police officer, who heroically rammed the car of the man of European descent who cold bloodedly murdered more than 20 people for the joy of killing. The injured officer was executed by that man, who eventually had to be killed by the police. I not infrequently see in the clinic people with criminal records. They have all been of European descent. As a child, the drug dealers who lived for two years next door were of European descent and the man they arrested with a SWAT team there was too. If the police force were dissolved, the people I would feel in most danger from would be those of the same ethnic ancestry as me. I know the lawlessness of which they are capable.
Roscuro, likewise (and even more so), those of African descent in this country are at far more physical danger from others of their ethnic heritage. When I lived in a black neighborhood in Chicago, initially we were one of many Chicago neighborhoods with permit parking. (In Chicago, if some percentage of a neighborhood petitions for permit parking, they can get it. Some neighborhoods require permits 24 hours a day, some 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and various other options. If you live one street over from a region that does have permit parking, or if you live near a major venue such as Wrigley Field, you definitely want permit parking or you won’t find a space to park on your own street. Chicago doesn’t have driveways, and their garages tend not to have enough parking for the house and to back up to alleys that sometimes become impassible in winter months, so accessible on-street parking is important.) Besides getting a permit for your own car, you could buy books of temporary permits, a book of 20 for $1.00, for your guests.
Well, during one block party, I overheard two of my neighbors talking (both of them black men). One was telling the other that a different neighbor was fighting to have us get rid of permit parking (which ended up happening), and the reason was that that person had more than 20 parking tickets and couldn’t get a permit without paying the fines. The neighbor who was talking about it said that we wanted permit parking because we wanted police to be driving down our street. And indeed, our street, with involved men on it, was one of the safest ones in my part of town. I had a neighbor who would go out if two teen boys were fighting and make them break it up. Without such mature male involvement, neighborhoods got ugly fast.
It’s a really bad thing when law-abiding residents have reason to fear the police. But it’s also horrible to have police presence removed, and to have power in the hands of whoever is the most violent. Would we rather be governed by police who have some level of accountability or by the Mafia or the equivalent? In a fallen world, authority is not optional (and it was a proper part of even a pre-Fall world).
Re: dishwashers. I have found that the detergent you use in a dishwasher can make a difference. So I stick with Cascade, even though there are cheaper alternatives.
😦 Caregiving: one of the most challenging and tiring jobs ever and yet one you will never be sorry to have done. Holding you up in prayer and for others to step in with relief and respite.
Continue prayers for you Chas….does she like applesauce? Maybe if she does you can sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar? Cheerios do not have much of a smell…if she smells cinnamon it might trigger her senses? When Dad was losing his sense of smell he wasn’t much interested in eating and he loved to eat. Mom always added bacon to his eggs to trigger the hunger. And in the hospital he was eating spaghetti while in the ICU…and then they brought to him a side of bacon… 😊

I may try that. But I think the problem is that she has forgotten how to eat.
A baby does better that she does.
She will have something in her mouth, chew it up and spit it out.
I can get her to eat candy if I break it into bite size sections.
Otherwise, she doesn’t even eat that.
Somehow, putting something in our mouth, chewing it and swallowing it is too complicated. She will stir her food around the plate, but not eat it.

Yes, it is wise to not let people put dishes in when they won’t scrape or rinse them well. With only my husband and I in this household it is not a problem. I have had two dishwashers and neither was really expensive. I have used ones that are not as good in houses in which they were installed before my daughters bought the house. As a military wife, I’ve heard a lot of nasty things said about the military. As the friend of police officers the same.
That has NOT been my experience. Why do we defame the majority because of the rogue?
Deal with the rogues; don’t punish everyone else.
