Prayer Requests 5-16-20

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 97

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
    let the distant shores rejoice.
Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Fire goes before him
    and consumes his foes on every side.
His lightning lights up the world;
    the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all peoples see his glory.

All who worship images are put to shame,
    those who boast in idols—
    worship him, all you gods!

Zion hears and rejoices
    and the villages of Judah are glad
    because of your judgments, Lord.
For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above all gods.
10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
    for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
    and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 Light shines on the righteous
    and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
    and praise his holy name.

  1. Prayer for daughter as she comes home with her new car, purchased from fifth brother. Bets are coming in that it won’t last four months. She has a bit of a reputation with cars. Better choices.

  2. Please pray for Nightingale and Boy.

    Today was our Mothers Day Tea and Spa Day. While Nightingale and I were doing our facials and pedicures, Boy, told that he could have one, got into the assortment of sweet goodies that were for the three of us to have for dessert. He got carried away, and took too many, cutting down on the amount that Nightingale and I could have. When his mother discovered this, she was livid enough to be crying. (She does not cry easily at all.)

    I have rarely seen her as angry at him as she was then. She accused him of ruining our Mothers Day celebration, and grounded him to his room for the rest of the day. There was a blow up between them, and things “were not been pretty” for a while.

    She and I tried to enjoy the little luncheon she had made for our tea, but by the end of it, she started crying again. Then said she just wanted to lie down, so she put her share of the dessert goodies on a plate to take upstairs.

    Please pray that the two of them will make peace with each other this evening. More specifically, that Boy would truly be sorry for what he did (Nightingale thinks he was only sorry about getting in trouble for it), and that Nightingale will forgive him. It would be nice if they could end the day cuddling together on their couch, or at least hanging out together amicably. Thank you.

  3. Kizzie, remember, they are parent and child, not husband and wife. They do not need to make peace with each other. She needs to make sure he knows he did something wrong and he needs to own it. Even with our Lord, while there is forgiveness, there are also often consequences. IMHO.

  4. Nightingale is no doubt also exhausted with her work schedule and the non-stop stress she’s been under during this time. Praying all is resolved soon and well.

    I ‘tweaked’ or twisted my left knee somehow, probably in March, it hurt at the time, and it’s never fully cleared up. But other than pain when I’d get up from sitting, it seemed better as I walked on it and I’ve been walking the dogs at night and doing fine otherwise (though there is some pain now and again).

    Yesterday I must have done something else to strain it because now it really hurts, I’m wondering if it’s dislocated (I hear a pop when I bend it now). I’m planning to call the doctor first thing tomorrow to get it checked out, just praying it’s nothing that would require surgery 😦 Today I’m just trying to stay off of it, using ice, keeping it elevated.

  5. Thank you for those who prayed about my leg a few days ago. It hurt really bad, and I had to spend a couple days greatly restricting sitting time, as sitting aggravated it greatly. But – amazingly, considering how bad it had hurt – the pain quickly diminished on the third day.

    But now, I have to ask prayer for my right upper arm. I suspect a bout of tendonitis may be developing where the arm meets the shoulder. I have had that several times over the years, and sometimes it can become nearly unbearable. I am taking ibuprofen and trying to baby the arm, but also praying that this will not get any worse than it feels today. Please join me in that. Thank you.

    DJ – Praying for your knee.

  6. Linda – I understand. But I felt that Nightingale was holding on to her anger beyond a reasonable period of time. My thought was that they each needed to be able to reconnect in some amicable way, to release the tension each was feeling. Boy has been thoroughly reprimanded, Nightingale has made her feelings very clear, and Boy has apologized. Now (well, “now” as in last evening) it is time to forgive and reconnect, so to speak.

    But I suspect that Nightingale’s reaction was more a result of stress, as DJ mentioned, and not getting enough sleep last week. Even this morning, she seems to be in a bad mood, easily triggered to annoyance.

    Oh, btw, today is Nightingale’s 31st birthday. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to draw her to Jesus. Thank you.

  7. One of those “Well, that just does it!” moments; happy birthday to Nightingale!

    My knee still hurts pretty seriously, but I can’t see braving the urgent care or, heaven forbid, ER during this pandemic. I’m just hoping I can connect with my dr tomorrow and they can see me.

  8. So much to carry to the Lord in prayer.

    DJ, when my knees are messed up it can sometimes help to lie on my back on the bed and lift one leg straight up and rotate it around. That often helps something to get back in place. My doctor gave me an exercise to help when we recently did my well visit telehealth call. It involves sitting on the edge of the chair and lifting one leg and holding it straight out for a bit and then the other. This is to strengthen the thigh muscles that hold the bones in the knee in place. Another one I was given years ago is to stand straight with your back against the wall. Slide your back down the wall and hold the position. The thighs get a workout holding in place like that, too. You can probably find more help online. It’s better than taking meds with side effects or having surgery, IMHO!😀

  9. Kizzie, you all have beautiful plans for special occasions. With those plans come great expectations that everything will turn out perfectly. I think that Nightingale may be at that point of transition when she has to reconcile reality with her great expectations. It is a difficult thing to do. I had to do that when I was in my thirties. I expect others here know what I am talking about. I don’t know anything that makes it easier. I think it is just a stage, maybe like what teenagers go through at times. It’s painful, awkward, and it will pass. Just wishing she could turn to God and lean on Him and let Him carry her through such hard times. Prayers ♡

  10. Janice – I was thinking of that, too. She had also gotten very upset on Valentine’s Day when her cake did not turn out right after a couple tries. She’s not even a fan of Valentine’s Day, but had something in mind for our day, and the ruined cake “ruined” it for her. 😦 (That was the last time we saw Chickadee, too.)

  11. Thanks Janice. This left knee pain ratcheted up quickly late yesterday and is fairly significant, I think it warrants an x-ray and maybe MRI to see what’s amiss and get a diagnosis. I’m walking like Frankenstein today. Can’t really function like this. Now I’m trying a heating pad. It helps, but I really did something to it, it’s bothered me for a while but as of yesterday the pain is much worse. Something’s injured, just hoping it won’t be a big deal to treat or fix. 😦

  13. DJ, my doc once explained that some people have joints that slip in and out of place which is what I think I have. When it is out it is so painful to try and walk on it. It is probably not what has happened to you. Maybe they will send you to PT. That is where Art goes and I may go at some point if it is not an off and on thing.

  14. Kizzie, when younger we had a problem with holidays. Art seemed to always do something to “ruin” them. I finally realized it was a family thing. He never got to have Santa Claus as a child, he was always sick at Halloween, and they just did not do special things because his mom was 44 when he was born and she had painful arthritis. So I had to get use to not making a big deal of events. It was not my preference but I had to adjust. Probably Nightingale will have a lot more peace if she can tone down her expectations. But if you try to tell her she may get angry at you because then you are not being supportive of her fantasy of being able to do it all. Just being involved with Scouting takes a herculean effort. She is a wonderful and talented young woman. I am sad to know a little of the pain she must feel and know how it makes you feel. With all she does for others, I know she feels she deserves to have special events that turn out well. We can pray about this for sure. ♡

  15. Both my shoulders are killing me lately. Not chronic, but when I move them in some fashion. I did have frozen shoulder on one and have a spur. I had rehab on that one a few years ago. Now they both seem weak and the pain is many times a day. Hoping to hold off on doing anything with them. All three of my brothers have issues with theirs, too.

    Please pray for Designer Girl’s family and her son specifically. He went to a bus race on Friday night. She was not crazy about him going at all, but this was something he would have been working on if the school had not closed. One of guys he was hanging out with just called to say his dad has tested positive for Covid. Both this young man’s mom and dad are essential workers. Since my granddaughter with Down Syndrome is in the same house, they really do not want the virus there.

    One man was killed at the race, btw. A bus overturned. While they were getting it upright a chain snapped and a man was killed immediately. Just a freak accident. 😦

  16. DJ,

    Somewhere in your area there should be an ortho-emergency room operation. Look for one of them that will take your insurance. Your ortho may already have one in their group. That gets you in quicker, and avoids the regular e-ward.

  17. Janice – You are certainly right that my trying to say anything to her would not be received well. I’ll just keep praying, and recognize that we all have things like that that we have to work through as we mature.

  18. The pain got a little less as the late afternoon and evening came; it still hurts but I’ll be OK until Monday, assuming my GP can get me in for X-ray and assessment. Things are more complicated during the pandemic, that’s for sure.

    The heating pad has helped, along with aspercreme and another topical my neighbor gave me; and Aleve. But it still hurts.
