Prayer Requests 4-9-20

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Luke 22:47-71

Jesus Arrested

47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.

52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”

Peter Disowns Jesus

54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”

57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.

58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”

“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.

59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”

60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.

The Guards Mock Jesus

63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” 65 And they said many other insulting things to him.

Jesus Before Pilate and Herod

66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”

Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer. 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”

70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”

He replied, “You say that I am.”

71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”

  1. Please pray as the plane continues home from PNG bringing folks back. This is not an evacuation. These are folks who were stuck when the borders were closed. Some are coming home early for furlough or have someone graduating this year. The flight goes to Honolulu and then on to San Francisco. Many will then be working on getting flights to somewhere else.

  2. I could use some prayers as I try to respectfully and accurately write about the Holiness Movement in this biography. I’m still not sure I understand all the ins and outs, despite months of research, and I have about one page to explain. It undergirded the entire theology of the Oriental Missionary Society and was the impetus for the Cowmans, etc. to set up the mission. I need to get this right. Thanks.

  3. I am very upset and teary-eyed right now.. Nightingale disagrees with how I handled something with Boy today, enough that she is very angry at me. What she doesn’t understand is that I cannot handle things in the same way she does. And now that Boy has come downstairs to see his mom and help with dinner, I cannot talk to her and explain about “my side” of the issue.

I would like to be left alone, but Nightingale and Boy are down here making dinner. When someone is angry at me, even if I think they don’t have a good reason to be so (and even more when they do), I feel ashamed, and I want to disappear and not face them. But salad is now being served, so I have to go out there and face her, but without her knowing my reasons, so she’ll still be thinking I am ineffective and unhelpful. 😦

Please pray that she and I can discuss this later, that she will see my side, and that this tension between us will ease. As for her seeing my side, that is a biggie, because she has very definite ideas about things, so may not understand my thoughts and feelings on this. Thank you.

  4. That supper was uncomfortable. We didn’t talk, and I didn’t even look at her.

I sent her a message explaining my reasoning. I was tempted to say more than I did, but I kept it short and to the point. Now they are upstairs.

  5. Sorry, Kizzie. You are a unique person from your daughter. You are given the preponderance of the care for him. You can try but you will still be you. If she does not like it, she can find other care provider. I know of what I speak. Enjoy your grandson. There are no perfect parents. There are no perfect grandparents.

  6. Oh Kizzie I am so sorry. I pray she will soon realize what an anchor you are in their lives and that she will show respect to her Mother. My heart hurts for you and you are held closely in my prayers and petitions before our Lord ❤️
