  1. 3rd world practices lead to outbreaks. That’s not a coincidence.

    “WUHAN VIRUS: IT’S NO COINCIDENCE

President Trump has often referred to COVID-19 as the “Chinese virus,” to the dismay of many liberals. But the fact that the virus came from China is no coincidence. On the contrary, it was the inevitable result of practices that are specific to that country.

Check out this 2007 article in Clinical Microbiology Reviews, titled “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus as an Agent of Emerging and Reemerging Infection.” It begins:

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus (SARS-CoV) is a novel virus that caused the first major pandemic of the new millennium (89, 180, 259). The rapid economic growth in southern China has led to an increasing demand for animal proteins including those from exotic game food animals such as civets. Large numbers and varieties of these wild game mammals in overcrowded cages and the lack of biosecurity measures in wet markets allowed the jumping of this novel virus from animals to human (353, 376). Its capacity for human-to-human transmission, the lack of awareness in hospital infection control, and international air travel facilitated the rapid global dissemination of this agent.

    Sounds familiar. ”

“Air Force flew 500,000 coronavirus test kits from Italy to Tennessee”

“The U.S. Air Force has flown half a million coronavirus testing kits from Italy to Tennessee, the branch’s top general revealed Wednesday.

Gen. David Goldfein told reporters at the Pentagon that the kits landed in Memphis on Monday. They were transported across the Atlantic on an Air Force C-17 cargo plane and now will be distributed around the country, people familiar with the mission told Defense One.

A photo purportedly showing a C-17 stocked with pallets of testing kits was temporarily posted on Instagram by a user who claimed to be part of the mission’s crew, the website adds.”

  3. In other news……

If even the Obama admin, who was encouraging stuff like this raised a red flag, that should tell you something.

Throw it out, or pardon him.

    https://justthenews.com/accountability/political-ethics/yates-other-obama-doj-officials-sounded-alarm-about-fbis-treatment

“Obama DOJ officials privately told Mueller they were alarmed by FBI treatment of Flynn

A little-noticed letter from special counsel Robert Mueller’s office divulges Obama DOJ concerns about FBI treatment of ex-Trump national security adviser.”

ormer acting Attorney General Sally Yates and other senior Obama-era Justice Department officials told the Russia special prosecutor in private interviews they had concerns about the FBI’s conduct in investigating former Trump National Security Adviser Mike Flynn, according to memos that paint a dark portrait of the bureau’s behavior.

The documents, which include a letter from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team transmitting exculpatory evidence to Flynn’s defense lawyers in 2018, offer the most detailed montage to date about why Attorney General Bill Barr recently appointed a special prosecutor to review the government’s actions in the Flynn case.

Among other things, the correspondence shows:

Mueller’s team accepted Flynn’s guilty plea on a charge of lying about his conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak even though agents told DOJ they thought the former general was not lying and simply had a faulty memory.

DOJ officials believed the threat the FBI was using to prosecute Flynn under an obscure law known as the Logan Act was a “stretch.”

Flynn was lured by the FBI into a fateful interview with agents believing he was not in legal jeopardy, which caused him not to seek a lawyer.

Some of the DOJ officials’ assessments to the Mueller team were backed up by former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe.

The documents add credence to the arguments Flynn’s new lawyer, Sidney Powell, is making that the former national security adviser was coerced into making his 2018 guilty plea and should be allowed to withdraw it.”

  4. FLASHBACK: Jan 14, 2020…..

    ————

So the next time you hear a Dem or media parrot saying this isn’t a Chinese virus, and they aren’t responsible, just remember how many deaths could have been avoided had China been honest from the start.

    https://dailycaller.com/2020/03/18/flashback-who-china-coronavirus-contagious/

“The World Health Organization (WHO) tried to cam fears of a pandemic on Jan. 14 by repeating China’s claim that coronavirus was not contagious among humans.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China,” the WHO tweeted.

Just 60 days later, the global death toll from coronavirus had topped 8000 and continued to climb. Over 200,000 cases had been documented in 145 countries.

But the virus’ means of transmission was far from the only misinformation coming from Chinese officials.

Beijing reported that the first known cases of the novel coronavirus were recorded in mid-December — but later reporting from outside sources suggested that the earliest cases were tracked in November and kept under wraps.”

“In addition, Caixin Global reported that Chinese officials had identified the virus as early as mid-December — but were instructed to destroy both their test results and their samples.”

  5. The nature of totalitarian regimes is they hide, obfuscate, dismiss etc any negative information because they fear losing face or respect. I don’t think anyone took the early Chinese reports seriously. However, whether or not, if countries acted quicker on China it would have had very little effect on the eventual outcomes. Its apparent the dispersion of corona was far more wide spread prior to being noticed.

Before we jump on China, its nothing new that diseases emit from China and move across the Eurasian continent (black plague). And of course, Europeans spread their own diseases. And there’s been no real changes in eating patterns — East Asians have always eaten animals we don’t. And they are not alone — Mayans ate guinea pigs, Europeans eat horse meat, etc And you don’t need to eat bats to acquire a bat carried virus — in Australia a local virus outbreak occurred when pigs ate bat dung that bats dropped from rafters in a pig barn, and then locals ate the pigs…. (this occurred years ago, if I remember correctly it was an anthrax based virus)

CBC just told me that China is only reporting 34 new cases (same number three days in a row) and all originated from travel outside the country. Sure…… Meanwhile Russia reports fewer cases than Iceland and life goes on normally. Apparently Putin has everything under control. He sounds like Trump two months ago. He’s more worried that Covid will interrupt the referendum prolonging his presidency for an other 16 years. And the celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of WWII will still happen in early May.

  6. She did indeed. We’ll have plenty of time for partisan nonsense when this over. But right now, this is the response we should hear, and I praise her having the decncy to say it. 🙂

  8. This is a disgusting misuse of your power for personal enrichment.

And it’s all perfectly legal, because they write the rules, and make themselves exempt.

    https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2020/03/burr-unloaded-stocks-before-coronavirus/

“Senate Intel chair unloaded stocks in mid-February before coronavirus rocked markets”

“As the coronavirus outbreak began to spread across the U.S. in mid-February, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) unloaded his holdings in dozens of stocks that would lose much of their market value over the coming weeks.

Burr and his wife Brooke sold between $581,000 and $1.5 million in publicly traded stocks on Feb. 13 and didn’t buy any new positions, according to a recent financial disclosure filed with the Senate.

Around the time that Burr sold his shares of major corporations, including several hard hit hotel companies, he publicly expressed confidence about the U.S. government’s ability to fight the virus. However in late February, Burr privately warned that the virus is “much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history,” according to a recording obtained by NPR.

Between the Burrs’ two accounts, they sold up to $150,000 worth of stock in Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, which lost almost two-thirds of its market value since Feb. 13. They sold up to $150,000 in Extended Stay America, another hotel company that lost half its value over the last month. Burr also sold between $15,001 and $50,000 of stock in Park Hotels & Resorts, which saw its stock price drop from nearly $24 to under $5. The hotel industry is asking President Donald Trump for a bailout as Americans increasingly avoid travel.

Congressional financial disclosures display investment amounts in wide ranges. In total, the Burrs sold seven positions worth between $50,001 and $100,000, including shares of major companies AbbVie, Centurylink and Constellation Brands.

“Senator Burr filed a financial disclosure form for personal transactions made several weeks before the U.S. and financial markets showed signs of volatility due to the growing coronavirus outbreak,” a Burr spokesperson told OpenSecrets. “As the situation continues to evolve daily, he has been deeply concerned by the steep and sudden toll this pandemic is taking on our economy. He supported Congress’ immediate efforts to provide $7.8 billion for response efforts and this week’s bipartisan bill to provide relief for American business and small families.”

In his most recent annual financial disclosure filed in 2019, Burr reported holding $1.3 million in equities. Anywhere between one-fourth and three-fourths of that was liquidated on a single day last month.

It’s unclear how much control Burr has over his portfolio. His assets are managed by private wealth management firm Stephens Inc. Burr’s net worth in 2018 was between $3.4 million and $11 million, according to OpenSecrets’ review of his disclosure.”

I’d love to see who else Stephens INC. did this for……

  9. AJ, you beat me to it, ie Burr

Omar and I agree on Trump admin’s current response. Interestingly I wonder if Obama or Biden tried these measures — would the Republicans complain about taking advantage of a crisis to institute socialism. Somewhat similar to Nixon going to China, only Trump could get away with it. I do think Trump needs to step away from the mic. I’m not sure he is personally giving people confidence.
