  1. More fake news, debunked.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/03/04/no-trump-didnt-shut-down-37-47-global-anti-pandemic-programs/

“No, Trump Didn’t Shut Down 37 Of 47 Global Anti-Pandemic Programs”

“Murphy jumped to conclusions, assuming the funding reductions had gone into effect and the programs in nearly 40 countries were closed. But that’s not correct. Advocacy groups and congressional officials jumped into action. The Trump administration backed off and now appears to fully support GHSA. The recent news reports cited above more accurately said that the administration had sought these cuts, without mentioning that they did not go into effect.

    Murphy earns Three Pinocchios.”

  2. Some good news.

“‘We simply do not understand why’: Coronavirus is sparing children, puzzling experts”

    https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/we-simply-do-not-understand-why-coronavirus-sparing-children-puzzling-n1147951

“As the novel coronavirus spreads around the globe, sickening more than 90,000 people and killing about 3,000, doctors have noticed something curious: Very few children have been diagnosed with it. And of those who have, most have had mild cases.

In China, where the outbreak started, children comprise just 2.4 percent of all reported cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, a World Health Organization-China Joint Mission report from last month found. Of those, only a sliver — 2.5 percent — experienced severe symptoms, and an even tinier proportion — 0.2 percent — became critically ill. Worldwide, there have been no deaths reported so far in young children.

The coronavirus’ mercy on children is a relief and a mystery to pediatric infectious diseases experts, who have a handful of working theories but no definitive answers for why.

“This is one of the unusual findings and curveballs that this virus keeps throwing at us,” said Dr. Frank Esper, a pediatric infectious diseases specialist at Cleveland Clinic Children’s, whose research focuses on viral respiratory infections and newly recognized infectious diseases. “Normal coronaviruses seem to affect children and adults equally, but this one, for whatever reason, certainly skews more to the adult population.”

The answer may lie in the difference between children’s and adult’s immune systems, said Dr. Vanessa Raabe, an assistant professor in pediatric and adult infectious diseases at NYU Langone. As people age, their immune systems weaken, she said, potentially making it harder for them to fight off illnesses.”

  3. Now Dems are openly making threats to the Supreme Court.

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2020/03/04/chuck-schumer-issues-a-threat-against-kavanuagh-gorsuch-you-will-pay-a-price-n2563181

“This is the first abortion case since new Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, both nominated by President Trump, were confirmed by the Senate.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer attended a Planned Parenthood rally outside of the Court this afternoon and openly threatened Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. Over what? It’s unclear. ”

  5. They blame Trump for things he didn’t do, and use fake news like the first post mentions to push it. But reality is……

    https://dailycaller.com/2020/03/04/trump-administration-obama-fda-rule-coronavirus-testing/

“Trump Administration Reverses Obama-Era Regulation Responsible For Coronavirus Testing Roadblock”

“The Trump administration has rolled back a Food And Drug Administration rule instituted by President Barack Obama that has stalled coronavirus testing at the state level.

The rule in question previously required state-run laboratories to only run medical tests pre-approved by the F.D.A.

Commissioner Stephen Hahn first addressed the testing problem on Saturday by issuing new guidance that would allow the state labs to conduct not-yet-approved coronavirus testing on patients in response to the public health emergency. In return for skirting the Obama-era regulation, laboratories must apply for an F.D.A. review of the new test, document the test’s accuracy and notify the F.D.A. of the test’s validity prior to F.D.A. completing the approval process.

“We believe this policy strikes the right balance during this public health emergency,” said FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn of the rule change. “We will continue to help to ensure sound science prior to clinical testing and follow-up with the critical independent review from the FDA, while quickly expanding testing capabilities in the U.S.””

““The Obama administration made a decision on testing that turned out to be very detrimental to what we’re doing, and we undid that decision a few days ago so that the testing can take place at a much more accurate and rapid fashion,” Trump stated. “That was a decision we disagreed with. I don’t think we would have made it, but for some reason it was made. But we’ve undone that decision.””

  6. The small percentage of children coming down with coronavirus is what enables me to have peace of mind. When there are babies in the house . . . .

In other news, we received a NIXILE alert yesterday from Napa County–not that far from us–warning us not to be afraid of the coronavirus.

Who thought that was a good idea?

  8. Bernie just dropped his anchor. This will tighten things up between him and Joe.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/elizabeth-warren-to-end-bid-for-democratic-nomination-reports-155833801.html

“Sen. Elizabeth Warren is expected to announce Thursday the end of her campaign for the presidency after a poor showing on Super Tuesday that included a third-place finish in her home state of Massachusetts.

Warren will reportedly inform campaign staff of her decision to drop out of the race on a conference call Thursday morning.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Warren has had discussions with both Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden about a possible endorsement.”

  9. It will be interesting to see where Warren sends her endorsement. The obvious choice is Sanders, since they’re closely aligned ideology wise, but she may go with the establishment choice, Joe. But that doesn’t mean her voters will.

Also interesting, if she had done this on Monday, Bernie would have benefited big time. Give her numbers mostly to Bernie and he wins Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Texas. Then it would be a completely different race.

Warren’s stubbornness and ego has clearly benefited Biden, as did Amy and Pete’s crowd. But that ends now.

    Can you say “brokered convention/”

    I knew ya’ could. 🙂

  10. So now as I see it, it’s Sanders/Warren or Biden/Klobuchar.

I’m thinking the “moderate only when compared to the commies” ticket wins. Then it all depends on what the once again stiffed in their eyes Sanders/Warren supporters do. 🙂

    Pass the popcorn. 🙂

  11. The race to see who will defeat Dem Doug Jones in Alabama is down to a run-ff.

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/03/alabama-jeff-sessions-tommy-tuberville-head-to-runoff-election-for-us-senate/#more-310975

“Alabama: Jeff Sessions, Tommy Tuberville Head to Runoff Election for U.S. Senate

    Runoff on March 31st.”

“Between the Crash and Bern and Warren coming in third in her home state, Super Tuesday was awesome. While much of our attention is on the Democrat presidential primary, there was an interesting development in Alabama.

Former Senator and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions failed to secure the Republican nomination for his old Senate seat and now faces a runoff election on March 31st. Former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville won 33.4% of the vote to Sessions’ 31.6%.

    NBC News reports:

Former Sen. Jeff Sessions and onetime Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville were neck and neck in the Republican primary race for the Senate on Tuesday night and will face off in a runoff election later this month, NBC News projects.

    . . . . Tuberville had 33.4 percent and Sessions took 31.6 percent, with 99 percent reporting.

“I will fight for Alabama every day, and we will win the Republican nomination on March 31,” Sessions told a crowd of supporters Tuesday night. He argued that he was a proven and vetted supporter of President Donald Trump and said Tuberville would be further vetted during the next phase of the race.”

  12. From our own news group’s editorial:

~ … The nomination is far from over, but now it’s Biden’s to lose. …

… Philosophically, we hope Biden isn’t pulled too far left to win over Sanders voters and sticks to a mainstream center-left message. We’re not fans of many of Biden’s political positions, but Biden’s approach is far less dangerous to liberty than the vision espoused by Sanders. The Vermont senator is intent on remaking the American economy and seems blind to the well-documented evils of socialism.

Even Republicans who relish the thought of a lopsided Trump-Sanders race ought to think twice about that possibility. In modern America, any major-party candidate has a realistic chance of winning the White House. A Sanders revolution is too big of a risk to take.

We’re pleased Democratic voters recognized the threat and the party, at least in recent days, behaved like a well-oiled machine rather than a disorganized wreck. ~

  13. Re the cartoon at 3:32 — Include Trump, who’s no spring chicken either. Kind of amazing to see the advanced average age of the candidates who remain for president.

It’ll be the last of the old (old-old) guard. By 2024, there undoubtedly will be a much younger crowd running on both sides. A 60-year-old maybe. 🙂

  14. DJ, I kept saying that in the last election. People made a big deal of Reagan’s age, and going from memory he was 69 the first time and thus 74 the second time. Last election, Trump, Hillary, and Sanders were all in their seventies, and no one mentioned it! Now the same men are four years older.

  15. Yeah…. funny thing about the age thing……

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/03/joe-bidens-age-and-health-is-not-off-limits/

“Joe Biden’s Age and Health Are Not Off Limits

It’s odd how the same people in media/Democrat circles who questioned Biden’s physical and mental health over the summer don’t seem interested in discussing it anymore.”

“Last summer, Joe Biden’s embarrassing gaffes were adding up, and even left-wing media outlets like the Washington Post started fact-checking the veracity of stories he’d tell during stump speeches. Questions began to be asked out in the open in Democrat/media circles about Biden’s age and health.

CNN’s Jake Tapper alluded to it in response to a thread done by former Harry Reid deputy chief of staff Adam Jentleson noting the number of flubs Biden had made in recent weeks:”

“Biden’s penchant for these types of mistakes had gotten so bad that President Trump was calling him out on it, Biden’s allies were pushing to scale back campaign appearances, and articles were written about the mental acuity questions. His physician even talked to Politico to assure people that Biden was “every bit as sharp as he was 31 years ago. I haven’t seen any change.”

Fast forward to now. Biden’s still a gaffe machine and again raising alarm bells with how he forgets things. All of a sudden, the same people wondering last year about Biden’s age and health don’t seem to be interested in discussing the issue anymore:”

It’s only fitting the others get held to the same standard, no?

So yeah, complaining now when it’s being said about Dems rings a little hollow.
