Prayer Requests 1-31-20

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the one
    who does not walk in step with the wicked
   or stand in the way that sinners take
    or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
    which yields its fruit in season
   and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

  1. I am thanking God today for the stranger, neighbor and law enforcement men who stopped to help my daughter when she was stranded on a major freeway with a flat tire. The tire was a recent purchase, so the blowout was very unexpected. She was quite happy to have all that help so quickly. The neighbor had gone by and turned around even though someone else had stopped. There are good things happening everyday and we can so easily forget with all the bad news we hear constantly.

  3. Prayer for daughter and son in law as the Navy has now said that he must go back to Okinawa. They will no longer be stationed in Washington. No idea what this means for them or the twins or the one year old. Will daughter be retained in the military? Will she be going back to Okinawa? Will the care for the twin boy be sufficient? God knows. People have dealt with bigger complications than this.

  4. Cancel that. He only has to go back until new orders are cut. Which means maybe a month, maybe two years. So, patience and peace and wisdom and strength. And mostly, that this experience continues to draw them to God. They both believe.

  5. This has been a major prayer concern for me from the beginning. I’ve been praying about this all along.

    I was just talking to my husband and he commented, “From what I know about Mumsee (!), she would be sitting there saying, “God is in control.”

    He went on, “You (me) don’t know what you would do, and thus admit that, is because God has not given you the grace for that situation. It’s not yours, you cannot be (per My Utmost yesterday) an amateur Providence for someone else.”

    I don’t know if that helps or not . . .

  6. Her orders are in, they are off to find out what the orders say. Her maternity leave is up next week, one baby will be home from the hospital, but not old enough for day care for two or three months.

  8. Husband says she should be able to go to her new commander, explain the situation once again, and plea for clemency. They will probably work with her.

  9. OTOH, parents are required to have a plan in place, sometimes notarized, about what happens to their children—to whom do they go— during a deployment. I’d guess her papers say Mumsee and Mike . . .

    That policy went into effect about 25 years ago when a friend’s husband was Commodore somewhere. Ship was deploying and a dozen mothers showed up with their children. He called his wife and told, “Get down here. CPS is coming and we have children with no place to go.”

    Mothers had signed contracts and went to sea.

    Our friend was furious and pushed for this requirement— people in place who know the children are coming to them and agree.

I’m old-fashioned enough to wish that mothers did not have to be deployed away from their children, although I realize that could be abused by women purposely having babies to avoid being deployed somewhere dangerous. (I am thinking of when both parents are deployed away from the children, or the mothers are single.)

    Nightingale is going to her friend Virginia’s house this evening, so I will be putting Boy to bed tonight, which will include reading some more in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. (We hadn’t had the opportunity to read the book for quite a while, but he remembers the story so far. From what we read last night, when Nightingale was working, I can see that tonight we will read about how Eustace stopped being a dragon. 🙂

  12. Kizzie, re “how Eustace stopped being a dragon”: Twenty-some years ago, a housemate of mine was teaching high school kids at my church. She was scheduled to present a devotional or some sort of teaching time, and she came to me. “Can you think of a literary passage that presents the gospel, a way to give it in a different way to kids who may have heard it all their lives?” This was the passage I recommended–and she excitedly agreed. (Her oldest daughter is now 20 and overseas for a year, holding babies in a children’s home that takes in severely handicapped children.)
