But at least he was white. So was the Dayton, Ohio, shooter, who murdered nine people, but he had the misfortune to be a registered Democrat and avid Elizabeth Warren supporter and espoused various left-wing causes, so the less said about him, the better.”

It isn’t fun to keep addressing claims that policing in America is racist. But the left keeps peddling this lie, and Democratic presidential candidates have joined in, so I feel the need to keep countering it.
Fortunately, Heather Mac Donald does the heavy lifting. I just have to link to her articles and do a little summarizing.

The Baltimore Police Department changed its qualifying exam to such an extent that the director of legal instruction in the Baltimore Police Academy complained in 2018 that rookie officers were being let out onto the street with little understanding of the law. Biden’s plan would require police hiring to “mirror the racial diversity” of the community as a precondition of federal funding.
This effort to increase minority representation won’t reduce racial disparities in shootings, concludes the PNAS study, since white officers aren’t responsible for those disparities; black crime rates are.”

Did he hear it on TV? He offers nothing as evidence for this claim.

Don’t be ridiculous even the FBI admits white supremacists domestic terrorism is on the rise. 50 people were killed in right wing violence in 2018. The most since Oklahoma City in 1989.
Police are biased systemically and on an individual level. They discriminate both on the basis of class and race. To invent a police check:crime rate ratio is to pull things together which dont belong.
The simple fact is the crime rate is higher in marginalized communities because police will process and arrest these communities for negligible offenses. For example white and black teens use marijuana at the same rates yet black teens are more frequently convicted and imprisoned for simple possession. Whether white supremacy is growing or not is difficult to determine. Most of the discussion I’ve seen focuses on anecdotal narratives that come from biased (on one side or the other) sources. How can such a thing truly be measured? I don’t think it can. It’s one of those political arguments that is lodged in the eye (and political leanings) of the beholder.
I can see where there are mini-peaks for these movements now and again — we’ve seen it throughout the 1960s – 1970s with groups such as the Black Panthers, to name a movement on the other side of the aisle — but typically those kinds of things ebb and flow with the times (as opposed to being huge groundswells of movements as seen in Nazi Germany, for example).
That’s not to say we shouldn’t be vigilant and aware, but it seems to me these things also can be misread much too easily (and conveniently) — particularly in an intense campaign season?
AJ – Since he knows people who are white supremacists, and helping them is his job (I guess) then I would assume he keeps abreast of what is going on with them.
I’ve also seen articles over the past couple years about this kind of thing growing in Europe, too.
Acknowledging that it is growing is not the same as saying that it is a particularly widespread problem, but that it is a concern that needs watching. It also is not anti-white to point this out. (I have a feeling that some white men think that pointing a finger at white supremacists is somehow pointing a finger at all white men. That is not so.)
I wish I could remember the details, but I read a piece countering the argument of “you can fit them all on a football field” or some such thing. He pointed out the terrorist groups that could easily fit on a football field or smaller spaces, but have still wreaked much havoc in the world.
DJ – I know this tends to be a liberal vs. conservative issue, but it shouldn’t be. If white nationalism is on the rise, that is not an indictment of white men in general. But since many liberals would tend to welcome the indictment, while many conservatives would want to deny any growth in their defense against that indictment, the issue of whether or not it is a problem has become one more partisan issue. Interestingly though, I have seen folks who lean conservative also sharing articles that indicate it is on the rise, or at the very least, those already in the “movement” are getting bolder.

Kizzie, I just don’t know how they’re quantifying that beyond anecdotal incidents and the political rhetoric that’s on the rise surrounding the shootings right now. It may be on the rise, it may just be getting a lot more attention or publicity right now.
If it’s on the rise, does that mean from 1% to 2%? More? An increase by 50 percent? I’d just like to see something more definitive and I’m not sure it’s even possible to determine that. I guess we just watch and see.
My main thought isn’t so much that there is a large percentage of white nationalists out there – I agree that it is probably a small percentage – but that they do exist, they can be violent, and their numbers may be growing as a backlash to the uber-political-correctness that is rampant now, even if those numbers are still small. It’s something to be aware of.
Do we have something more definitive than popular perceptions, opinion or impressions to back it up? “Hate crimes” also can be skewed by what’s reported vs. not reported. Motives for shootings are often less than clearcut.

Black crime rates are not responsible for police shootings. How police handle black crime (or non crime) is responsible for the shootings.
A young black boy with a bb gun is killed within seconds of police arriving. Dylan Roof who killed numerous black church goers and was armed with something more than a bb gun is captured alive and is taken to Burger King. A young black man picked up a bb gun in Walmart to purchase for his kid. Someone phoned police and he was dead minutes after they arrived. A white man open carried in a Wal-Mart shortly after El Paso. He was intervirwed and releaed. A black man selling cigarettes was choked to death. A black man was shot jaywalking. The police overeact to black men but not to white men.
Conservatives discounting the FBI is amusing. The FBI like most law and order institutions is staffed byconservatives, mostly Republican. In FBI history they have been far more likely to pursue leftist groups than racist groups. Even now they focus on environmentalist and antifa as well as white supremacists groups despite the latter’s overwhelming numbers. For a conservative organisation such as the FBI to admit white supremacists are the biggest domestic terrorism threat speaks volumes.
If i accept the numbers from your links, about 2-4% of reported hate crimes are hoaxes. Fairly insignificant compared to those that are real. We don’t ignore 96% of reports bc four percent are false.
I can accept that some of the reported increase is better reporting and data collection. However, an actual increarse is also possible and a valid conclusion.
If we look at false rape reports we have similar data; about 2-10% depending on jurisdiction and if “unproveable” is included. I don’t think anyone would suggest false rape reports discounts actual rape reports. Rape similar to most crime is on the decline despite better reporting and data collection.
Unlike other crimes, race hate crimes are not on the decline. Better reporting and data collection is true but almost all crime has declined despite it. Not hate

Usually, it isn’t. But every now and then their prayers are answered, as they were, sort of, just recently when some wacko who doesn’t like Mexicans murdered 22 people in El Paso. Central Casting is going to have a hard time making the chap in question out to be a “white supremacist,” however, since he was just a mix of nasty congeries of bizarre ideas. But at least he was white. So was the Dayton, Ohio, shooter, who murdered nine people, but he had the misfortune to be a registered Democrat and avid Elizabeth Warren supporter and espoused various left-wing causes, so the less said about him, the better.”

Departments had already been deemphasizing written exams or eliminating requirements that recruits have a clean criminal record, but the trend intensified thereafter. The Baltimore Police Department changed its qualifying exam to such an extent that the director of legal instruction in the Baltimore Police Academy complained in 2018 that rookie officers were being let out onto the street with little understanding of the law. Biden’s plan would require police hiring to “mirror the racial diversity” of the community as a precondition of federal funding.
This effort to increase minority representation won’t reduce racial disparities in shootings, concludes the PNAS study, since white officers aren’t responsible for those disparities; black crime rates are.”

There’s so much garbage in that article. It takes about 4 paragraphs for his intent (to direct people to his group so he can make money) becomes obvious. And he got out of the movement over 20 years ago in 1996, so he has no insider info that’s of use any longer. It also makes me doubt his claims the movement is growing. How would he know? Did he hear it on TV? He offers nothing as evidence for this claim.
But he does have a memoir you can buy, counseling you can pay for, and a TV show, and he’s available for interviews as well, paid, of course. He’s a grifter that the left uses as an “expert” because he tells them what they want to hear. Tucker Carlson was right.
It’s just Russia, Russia, Russia, repackaged. No proof, just trust us.

Police are biased systemically and on an individual level. They discriminate both on the basis of class and race. To invent a police check:crime rate ratio is to pull things together which dont belong.
The simple fact is the crime rate is higher in marginalized communities because police will process and arrest these communities for negligible offenses. For example white and black teens use marijuana at the same rates yet black teens are more frequently convicted and imprisoned for simple possession. Police will react differently to a white person than to a black person. There’s a YouTube video in which a white and black person both open carry in an open carry state. Whether white supremacy is growing or not is difficult to determine. Most of the discussion I’ve seen focuses on anecdotal narratives that come from biased (on one side or the other) sources. How can such a thing truly be measured? I don’t think it can. It’s one of those political arguments that is lodged in the eye (and political leanings) of the beholder.

I can see where there are mini-peaks for these movements now and again — we’ve seen it throughout the 1960s – 1970s with groups such as the Black Panthers, to name a movement on the other side of the aisle — but typically those kinds of things ebb and flow with the times (as opposed to being huge groundswells of movements as seen in Nazi Germany, for example).
That’s not to say we shouldn’t be vigilant and aware, but it seems to me these things also can be misread much too easily (and conveniently) — particularly in an intense campaign season?

AJ – Since he knows people who are white supremacists, and helping them is his job (I guess) then I would assume he keeps abreast of what is going on with them.
I’ve also seen articles over the past couple years about this kind of thing growing in Europe, too.
Acknowledging that it is growing is not the same as saying that it is a particularly widespread problem, but that it is a concern that needs watching. It also is not anti-white to point this out. (I have a feeling that some white men think that pointing a finger at white supremacists is somehow pointing a finger at all white men. That is not so.)
I wish I could remember the details, but I read a piece countering the argument of “you can fit them all on a football field” or some such thing. He pointed out the terrorist groups that could easily fit on a football field or smaller spaces, but have still wreaked much havoc in the world.

DJ – I know this tends to be a liberal vs. conservative issue, but it shouldn’t be. If white nationalism is on the rise, that is not an indictment of white men in general. But since many liberals would tend to welcome the indictment, while many conservatives would want to deny any growth in their defense against that indictment, the issue of whether or not it is a problem has become one more partisan issue. Interestingly though, I have seen folks who lean conservative also sharing articles that indicate it is on the rise, or at the very least, those already in the “movement” are getting bolder.

They aren’t racist or biased. They’re just smart enough to read their own numbers and know who is responsible. Why waste resources elsewhere? We know what the problem is, the left just doesn’t like it.

Kizzie, I just don’t know how they’re quantifying that beyond anecdotal incidents and the political rhetoric that’s on the rise surrounding the shootings right now. It may be on the rise, it may just be getting a lot more attention or publicity right now.
If it’s on the rise, does that mean from 1% to 2%? More? An increase by 50 percent? I’d just like to see something more definitive and I’m not sure it’s even possible to determine that. I guess we just watch and see.

My main thought isn’t so much that there is a large percentage of white nationalists out there – I agree that it is probably a small percentage – but that they do exist, they can be violent, and their numbers may be growing as a backlash to the uber-political-correctness that is rampant now, even if those numbers are still small. It’s something to be aware of.

Do we have something more definitive than popular perceptions, opinion or impressions to back it up? “Hate crimes” also can be skewed by what’s reported vs. not reported. Motives for shootings are often less than clearcut.

Black crime rates are not responsible for police shootings. How police handle black crime (or non crime) is responsible for the shootings.
A young black boy with a bb gun is killed within seconds of police arriving. Dylan Roof who killed numerous black church goers and was armed with something more than a bb gun is captured alive and is taken to Burger King. A young black man picked up a bb gun in Walmart to purchase for his kid. Someone phoned police and he was dead minutes after they arrived. A white man open carried in a Wal-Mart shortly after El Paso. He was intervirwed and releaed. A black man selling cigarettes was choked to death. A black man was shot jaywalking. The police overeact to black men but not to white men.

Conservatives discounting the FBI is amusing. The FBI like most law and order institutions is staffed byconservatives, mostly Republican. In FBI history they have been far more likely to pursue leftist groups than racist groups. Even now they focus on environmentalist and antifa as well as white supremacists groups despite the latter’s overwhelming numbers. For a conservative organisation such as the FBI to admit white supremacists are the biggest domestic terrorism threat speaks volumes.

If i accept the numbers from your links, about 2-4% of reported hate crimes are hoaxes. Fairly insignificant compared to those that are real. We don’t ignore 96% of reports bc four percent are false.
I can accept that some of the reported increase is better reporting and data collection. However, an actual increarse is also possible and a valid conclusion.
If we look at false rape reports we have similar data; about 2-10% depending on jurisdiction and if “unproveable” is included. I don’t think anyone would suggest false rape reports discounts actual rape reports. Rape similar to most crime is on the decline despite better reporting and data collection.
Unlike other crimes, race hate crimes are not on the decline. Better reporting and data collection is true but almost all crime has declined despite it. Not hate
