    “My youngest daughter graduated from college a few weeks ago. She wrote this piece for The College Fix. I am taking the liberty of posting it in its entirety.

    I just graduated from St. Olaf College after receiving an education I didn’t expect. That’s because as a conservative at my small, Minnesota-based liberal arts institution, I’ve spent the last four years defending myself against personal and political attacks from professors and peers alike.

    The most recent example came in late April as the St. Olaf College Republicans hosted scholar Heather Mac Donald for a talk on her new book, “The Diversity Delusion: How Race and Gender Pandering Corrupt the University and Undermine Our Culture.”

    As chair of the group, I fielded many angry emails, including this from a theater professor: “This speaker is dangerous. It’s not about a difference in idealogical [sic] perspectives. This rhetoric is dangerous and puts my Black body in danger. This is antithetical to the St. Olaf mission statement. I’m not okay with this… and you all shouldn’t be either.” Several more professors emailed similar sentiments.

    This example is no outlier. In early 2018, college administrators shot down an effort to bring Ben Shapiro to campus for a speech. The officials denied the request by saying Shapiro was too divisive to bring to St. Olaf on the date in question. (It was the one-year anniversary of a racial protest on campus). They promised Shapiro could come at some unknown future date, but months of student organizing and planning were essentially wasted. Shapiro never made it to St. Olaf College.”

    A record 157,005,000 people were employed in June, the most since February and the 19th record of Trump’s presidency, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.

    And the economy added a strong 224,000 jobs in June, well above the estimate of 160,000.

    The unemployment rate, the lowest in 50 years, ticked up a tenth of a point to 3.7 percent.

    In June, the nation’s civilian noninstitutionalized population, consisting of all people age 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, reached 259,037,000. Of those, 162,981,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.

    The 162,981,000 who participated in the labor force equaled 62.9 percent of the 259,037,000 civilian noninstitutionalized population. That’s up a tenth of a point from May’s 62.8 percent participation rate. The payroll taxes paid by people who participate in the labor force help support those who do not participate, so the higher this number, the better.”

    The Washington Examiner reports that, according to the National Border Patrol Council’s El Paso chapter and several CBP agents, Escobar’s staff is trying to find migrants that have been returned from El Paso, Texas to Mexico “under the ‘remain in Mexico’ policy, then coaching them to pretend they cannot speak Spanish to exploit a loophole letting them return to the U.S.”

    A senior union official shared evidence supporting their claims with the Examiner and said, “What we believe is happening is Veronica Escobar’s office is going … to basically second-guess and obstruct work already done by the Border Patrol.”

    Under the “remain in Mexico” policy, “anyone returned must be fluent in Spanish because they may have to reside in Mexico up to five years until a U.S. federal judge decides their asylum claim.”

    Officials claim that Escobar’s aides, who have sought interviews with thousands of migrants who were sent back to Mexico, are escorting the migrants back to the port of entry and are lying to CBP officials, telling them the migrants don’t speak Spanish despite the fact that they spoke Spanish to the officials at an earlier date.

    “What we’re hearing from management is that they’re attempting to return people, and the story was changed in Mexico, where a person who understood Spanish before now doesn’t understand — where a person who didn’t have any health issues before now has health issues,” a union official said. “They went through and interviewed everybody, cherry-picked them, brought them back, and now are using them as tag lines. They’re going over there and manufacturing a lot of these issues.”

    Mark H. Metcalf, a former federal immigration judge, told the Examiner that a criminal case could be brought against Escobar if she is found to be involved in the alleged scheme, which amounts to fraud and making false statements to U.S. officials.”

  9. I am reading a book called “Dark Agenda” by David Horowitz. It’s a difficult read because it contains the various attempts (many successful) to reduce, even eliminate, the influence of Christianity in American society.
    There is an entire chapter of the rulings that Obama and the Supreme Court have made during his presidency. One single example is the persecution of the baker who wouldn’t make a homosexual wedding cake. That is only one. Too numerous to list here.

    It is not a fun book to read. But enlightening. OTOH, we had a sensation that it was headed this way.
    I’m glad we got a fighter like Trump in the White House now. Someone like one of the Bush’s, though good men, would let it slide.
    Trump is a hard man to like. But I’m respecting him more all the time.

  10. I read the Salon article mentioned at 8:51am, referred to as “the left hating America.” The headline was an exaggeration, as many headlines are these days, and not exactly what the article was saying.

And that’s where we’re getting so caught up — it was a “product of its time.” Today, so many critics are bent on judging the past strictly by present day standards and yes, some events/movements/people/quotes fall short, big surprise, if we insist on viewing everything rigidly through the lens of hindsight.

    What will future generations see about us that falls so grievously short? Much, probably.

    I too read the entire Salon piece before I posted that. It’s leftist tripe and hand wringing over the failings of the past and rains judgement on men who merely upheld the standards of their times. Sure some were wrong, and we’ve corrected many of those.

    The Salon writer makes the case against himself with editorialized revisionist history, or if you prefer, leftist tripe like this from the article.

    When you make statements like these, that’s exactly what you’re saying.

  21. Someone posted 1 Cor. 6:9-10 on one of our community FB pages (no additional words, just the biblical quote in a box). You can imagine (or maybe not) the blowback in the comments that followed. Calls for the post to be removed were resisted by the (liberal and openly atheist) administrator, rather surprisingly, since he’s often fast at removing posts with which he disagrees personally. But he did openly hint that the poster was guilty of ignorance (as was his religion) and that the social media public would hold him to account for that.

    I’m again reminded of how out of sync Christianity currently is with much of our culture. Many cannot bear to see or hear of it.

  26. How do they figure that homeownership increases wealth? In most places, it is more expensive to own than to rent.

    I get annoyed when I see real estate agents advertising that we can own a home for as little as we could rent. Yeah, maybe the monthly mortgage could be around the same as a monthly rent, but there is also homeowners insurance, property taxes, and expensive repairs. Not to mention that if the washer or water heater or other appliance goes out, you are the one who has to pay to repair or replace it.

    Remember the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? Some of those families ended up losing those homes because they couldn’t afford the higher tax rate.

  27. That’s the part I don’t really get either. You’re increasing your debt for 20-30 years, but you gain no real monetary wealth from it until you sell or own it free and clear. But in most cases by then, with interest, you already paid twice what you’ll get at sale. Not to mention what you’re down 20-30 years later for repairs, upgrades, and upkeep along the way. I see it more as a necessary evil than a wealth building opportunity.

    It depends on the location and your age.
    I bought a house in Falls Church, Va. in 1965 for $15,400, Lots of money for me at that time. But I bought it on the GI Bill. No down payment.
    In 1972, I bought another house in Annandale, Va. for $42,000 (approx., don’t remember exactly). But I kept the Falls Church house and rented it out.
    There were expenses and repairs associated with this, but, generally, the rent paid for the upkeep.
    I didn’t buy it for an investment. I bought it because I knew that my parents would someday need a place to live. (Same situation we have with Chuck, only I pay my own way here.)
    My parents came up and lived in a year, but insisted on moving back to Charleston.
    I moved them back and sold the house.
    For a little over $129,000.
    Best investment I’ve ever made. But I didn’t keep it for an investment.

  31. Ah yes…. the old guilt by association. I knew the media would ignore the obvious guilty parties to pursue one they have no proof on, other than a photo of Trump and Melania with him. No mention of Clinton or the dozen or so Dem politicians and celebrities who used to hang with Epstein and the young girls. Note Trump was photoed with Melanie and Epstein and his girlfriend, not some underage girls. There’s no evidence Trump ever participated in his “parties” as there is with some of the others as well. There are also no allegations against Trump that suggest otherwise. Epstein was simply another rich customer of Mar-a-Lago.

    Everyone’s known for decades he’s a perv. Trump stated the obvious. While you could make the argument he shouldn’t have let the guy into his establishment, Trump isn’t even part of the story.

    Yet there’s Business Insider with Trump as the center piece of their Epstein story. Now why do you suppose that is?

    Hint: Hit piece, the bias and intent is obvious, and exactly what I expected. 🙂

    Question from reporter: Our current President has had relationships with Epstein in the past and there are those, Katy Johnson and maybe other victims who’ve accused Trump of being involved in things like this.

    In my experience, Trump supporters will not listen to anything along those lines. Obviously we’re not in the court of law here right now, but are those claims, although that case was dropped, it was dropped before it went to court. In your opinion as a lawyer, in your experience is there anything you can say as to the validity of those claims and whether there will be anything more about that?

    Edwards: Nothing at all. The only thing that I can say about President Trump is that he is the only person who, in 2009 when I served a lot of subpoenas on a lot of people, or at least gave notice to some pretty connected people, that I want to talk to them, is the only person who picked up the phone and said, let’s just talk. I’ll give you as much time as you want. I’ll tell you what you need to know, and was very helpful, in the information that he gave, and gave no indication whatsoever that he was involved in anything untoward whatsoever, but had good information. That checked out and that helped us and we didn’t have to take a deposition of him in 2009.

    Reporter: Do you have any information on James Patterson’s claims that Trump had Epstein kicked out of Mar-a-logo?

    Edwards: I definitely have heard that. I definitely have heard that and I don’t know if it was Trump himself as opposed to a manager…”

  37. And if guilt by association is the game, perhaps now would be a good time to ask Robert Mueller why his FBI is rumored to have taken it easy on Epstein because he was an informant.

    And then there’s this one too, if we’re asking about associations and all.

    These two guys (Mueller and Comey) seem to be connected to everything that let’s guilty Clintons off easy. So will his daughter actually be prosecuting, or looking to protect Bill and the FBI’s asset?

    She’s worked on cases involving alleged racketeering, drugs and weapons offenses, embezzlement, obstruction of justice, and robbery.

    Like father, like daughter. Her dad was U.S. Attorney for the same office before becoming U.S. Deputy Attorney General under President George W. Bush. Despite being a Republican, at least at the time, he became FBI Director under President Barack Obama, and controversially handled the Clinton email investigation. He stayed into the next administration, and President Donald Trump fired him. It was a whole thing.

    Law&Crime reached out to the Southern District of New York about the Epstein case, and the detail about Maurene Comey. Spokesman Nicholas Biase declined to comment.”
