  1. Looking at you Hillary and Barry.

Further proof that the Libyan operation was just a front to run weapons to Muslim extremists.

“So, How’d A Libyan Rebel Commander Get US Anti-Tank Missiles?”

“This is one of those shadowy war mysteries with a backstory that belongs in a Robert Ludlum novel. We’ll never know the true inside story. But it’s interesting nonetheless.

You may recall back in 2011 as Barack Obama was heading out of the White House one day to take his mother-in-law along on a South American tour, he dropped the news that oh, by the way, he’d ordered U.S. air forces to help European allies oust Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

He launched this multi-month offensive without congressional approval.

Gadhafi’s crime (actually, it hadn’t happened yet) was he threatened to shoot civilians if some rebels did not stop fighting. Obama’s proclaimed cover story was a civilized world could not abide such potential threatened violence.

Obama’s professed concern for innocent civilians went poof! soon after, as more than 400,000 Syrian civilians were actually killed by government and Russian bombs, guns and chemical weapons ruthlessly putting down a civil war there.

Remember Obama’s red line over Syria’s chemical weapons? He threatened military action, but then declared he couldn’t really do such a thing without the congressional approval he didn’t care about in 2011.”

    —————–

“Anyway, Libya has been a failed state ever since. Militias roam the land. Remember the murder of four Americans in Benghazi that Obama vowed to avenge? ISIS and al Qaeda trainers teach new jihadis there.

The U.S. and United Nations recognize the weak government in Tripoli. But it faces rebel challenges, most seriously from a general named Khalifa Hifter. In a surprise raid last week government troops took a rebel compound south of Tripoli. And there they found a large arms cache including a batch of U.S. anti-tank missiles worth more than $600,000.

The American Javelin missiles (see above) were packed in Raytheon/Lockheed Martin crates from a 2008 shipment to the United Arab Emirates, which is supposed to be a US ally. Passing on US weapons is also supposed to be illegal.”

“Beto O’Rourke Takes His Campaign to Mexico, Meets With Asylum Seekers

Who is the next candidate to cross into Mexico and copy O’Rourke?”

“As his campaign flounders, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Robert O’Rourke did what anyone else would do. He crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico to campaign with asylum seekers.

Oh, wait. That does not make sense since those people cannot vote until they become citizens.

    From Fox News:

According to a pool report put out by the O’Rourke campaign, the candidate spoke to a group of asylum seekers in Spanish for about 15 minutes at a restaurant in Ciudad Juarez, across the Rio Grande from O’Rourke’s hometown of El Paso. The candidate then traveled to a shelter for migrants run by the Catholic Church, where he met around a table with migrants from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala who told of being denied entry into the U.S. and returned to the Mexican border city while their asylum claims were being processed.

O’Rourke’s campaign livestreamed the discussion on his Facebook page.

“We hope, by sharing these stories, that the conscience of our country is awoken right now, and the need to change the policies that we have in place” becomes apparent, O’Rourke said on the stream. The 46-year-old blamed what he called “the Trump administration’s unlawful ‘Remain in Mexico’ program,” meant to reduce the attractiveness of U.S. asylum requests that in the past had allowed claimants to remain in the U.S. for years as their cases wound their way through the courts.

Of course, O’Rourke blamed President Donald Trump’s administration for forcing the asylum seekers to remain in Mexico. Weird how none of the Democratic candidates mention how America’s immigration system has been a mess for years. Oh, yeah. The Democrats had full control of DC in part of President Barack Obama’s administration but did nothing to reform immigration.

But Orange Man Bad or something.”

German newspaper Die Tageszeitung: “The first payments are under way” to Iran as part of the EU’s new trading mechanism.”

“As Iran breaches the limit on its enriched uranium stockpile set under the 2015 nuclear deal, European powers scramble to appease the regime.

The European Union has started processing payments to Iran under a new trading mechanism, German media reports confirmed. While French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to rush to Tehran in an attempt to coax the regime into the Obama-era deal.

The United Kingdom, Germany, and France will issue a joint statement today underlining their approach in light of the latest Iranian breach, British newspaper The Guardian reported.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump’s administration continues to pursue its policy of keeping maximum pressure on Iran. “No message to Iran. They know what they’re doing. They know what they’re playing with, and I think they’re playing with fire,” President Trump told reporters when asked if he had a message for the Mullah’s in Tehran.

“The Trump Administration calls on the international community to restore the longstanding nonproliferation standard of no enrichment for Iran’s nuclear program,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. “[N]o nuclear deal should ever allow the Iranian regime to enrich uranium at any level.”

    Fake news.

    https://freebeacon.com/issues/nyt-video-op-ed-suggests-georgia-governors-election-was-tampered-with/

“The New York Times‘s Taige Jensen and Nayeema Raza produced a video making the grim case that the United States cannot be considered great, let along the “greatest country in the world.” The stylized video, which combines animation and archival news footage, argued the U.S. could even be compared to a “developing country” at times.

“It’s gotten to a point where I think there are specific times and places where you can confuse America for a developing country,” the narrator said, “as elections are tampered with, water can’t be drunk from taps, citizens don’t trust uniformed officers, infrastructure is crumbling, and where a dual system is emerging when public services are available to the highest bidder.”

As the narrator spoke about elections being “tampered with,” b-roll played of Abrams on a CBS Evening News report about her claims of voter suppression during her race. Abrams protested during and after her defeat that Republican opponent Brian Kemp systematically suppressed the vote through a variety of tactics and tainted the race. She has said Republicans “stole” the win from “the voters of Georgia” and even declared “I won.”

She refused to officially concede, and prominent Democrats like Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D., Texas), Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.), Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.), South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) have backed her claim that Kemp’s victory was rigged.

While this charge has often been uncritically repeated in the media, fact-checks from the Free Beacon, National Review, and the Weekly Standard showed voter turnout increased under Kemp’s tenure as secretary of state, rural precinct closings occurred outside of his office’s purview, and the so-called voter roll “purge” through enforcement of exact-match laws and “use it or lose it” regulations were part of Kemp’s duties.

Abrams won more votes than any Democrat in Georgia history, but she still lost by more than 54,000 to Kemp, who played up his support for President Donald Trump to appeal to the state’s rural voters. No Democrat has won a gubernatorial election in Georgia since Roy Barnes in 1998.”

“One-third of Americans say the news media is “the enemy of the people,” according to a new Hill-Harris X poll survey.

The poll, released Monday, found that the sentiment is strongest among Republican voters. According to the survey, 51 percent of Republicans polled said they thought of the press as “the enemy of the people” compared with 14 percent of Democrats and 35 percent of independents who said the same.

A majority of all respondents overall signaled support for the press, with 67 percent saying that the “news media is an important part of a democracy.”

Among those surveyed, respondents were most closely divided on the issue in rural areas. Forty-six percent of rural Americans said they believed the news media to be the “enemy of the people,” compared with 54 percent of those who said the news media is a crucial part of democracy. “

“‘It’s Independence Day’: Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher hugs his wife as he walks free after being found NOT GUILTY of murdering ISIS fighter despite being convicted of one war crime – posing with a corpse

Edward ‘Eddie’ Gallagher has been acquitted on murder and attempted murder charges on Tuesday in a military court on Naval Base San Diego

Gallagher was accused of murdering the 17-year-old militant in Mosul in 2017 and also accused of firing his weapon at innocent civilians in Iraq

The 40-year-old was convicted of posing with the corpse of an ISIS fighter – he is expected to be spared jail as the maximum sentence for the crime is four months and he spent longer in confinement awaiting trial

He maintained his innocence throughout and said he was being set up by a group of younger, less disciplined men who did not like his leadership style

The jury was made up of five Marines and two sailors, including one SEAL – the prosecution needed five of the seven jurors to convict

The turning point in the court martial was when one of the SEALs, Corey Scott, who had been expected to testify for the prosecution took responsibility for killing the boy Gallagher was alleged to have murdered

Scott now faces perjury charges from the Naval prosecutors he blindsided – they say he made it up to protect Gallagher after being granted immunity for his own war crimes

Outside the court Tuesday Gallagher greeted the media alongside his wife and lawyers – he spoke briefly saying: ‘I’m happy and I’m thankful’ “

Opinion: Democrats Push Left, but Need Moderate Swing States
It’s not too soon to wonder about the political consequences of the progressive wing

    ______________________________

    By Gerald F. Seib

Here are some facts about the 2016 presidential election:

Most would agree that the four most important states in President Trump’s victory were Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida. In those four states, the share of voters who said in exit polls that they considered themselves liberals were 27%, 27%, 25% and 25%, respectively. In each state, the share of voters who called themselves moderates was at least 10 percentage points higher.

And in the three of those states where voters were asked about health care, the share who said Obamacare went too far was significantly higher—more than 10 percentage points—than the share saying Obamacare didn’t go far enough.

So here is a question about the 2020 presidential race: Why do Democrats think they can win back such states with a more liberal agenda, one built in particular around going much further than Obamacare toward a Medicare-for-all, government-run health system?

That is the political puzzler that emerges after last week’s initial Democratic Party debates. In those debates, two camps emerged: a majority of the candidates seemed to fit into a progressive camp that would move the party to the left, and a minority of candidates fit into a more-moderate mold, who would root the party more in the center.

It’s still way early in the nominating process, but first impressions matter. And the first impression from the debates was of a dominant progressive wing, and a party moving to the left on the economy, health care and immigration. That road is at least a risky one. …
    ________________________________

(Arguments in favor of the party’s continued swing leftward include: the country is more liberal now; this will boil down to an election of the Dem “base” voters who will be overwhelmingly motivated; and many average Americans believe now that the economy needs fixing.)

    https://news.yahoo.com/us-media-sector-braces-brutal-jobs-140425656.html

    ___________________________

US media sector braces for brutal year for jobs

… “Members of the media, especially journalists, have had a tough few years,” said Andrew Challenger, vice president of the Chicago-based firm.

“Many jobs were already in jeopardy due to a business model that tried to meet consumer demand for free news with ad revenue. As media outlets attempted to put news behind pay walls, in many markets, consumers opted not to pay.”

Some of the notable events this year included the closing of the Youngstown Vindicator, the only daily in the Ohio city, with 144 jobs lost, and the sale of the New Orleans Times-Picayune resulting in the loss of most of the 250 newsroom jobs.

But the troubles have also impacted the digital sector with BuzzFeed cutting 200 employees in January and Verizon eliminating 800 jobs in its media division, which includes Yahoo, AOL, and HuffPost, the Challenger report noted.

The report noted that media companies have been unable to keep pace with Facebook and Google in tailoring ads for customers based on their interests, making it hard to generate online revenue. …

It also noted that a rise in browser ad blocking extensions has made it increasingly difficult to monetize online news. …
    _______________________________

Figuring out a new business model for media has been, so far, impossible. Large national publications such as the NYT, WaPo, WSJ have managed to break out of the limited revenue box by attracting significant reader subscriptions, but they’re the exceptions. Very few readers are aware of any of this and continue to gripe about being asked to pay $10 a month to read their local news.

It’ll be interesting to see what shakes out in the years to come, whether someone can figure out a new business model that at least supports the work. So far, many have tried but there’s been no real solution or obvious way forward. (For years it was believed that digital ad revenue would rise & replace the falling print ad revenue; but then Google and Facebook swept all of that out from under everyone else, so here we are …)

An older businessman at our church used to frequently tell me, “They should have been prepared for what was coming and had a plan.” I’d always answer, “How?” No one could foresee how the digital revolution and the Internet, including the rise of social media, would slash through businesses in such unpredictable ways and leave so many in ruins. And it’s still all evolving with undoubtedly more unforeseen changes to come.

    Love/hate the Internet. 🙂

But it’s also possible that, just as a lot of people voted for Trump mostly to vote against Clinton, people will hold their noses and vote for whomever will be the Democrat in order to vote against Trump.

One of my friends from church has come out in favor of Tulsi Gabbard, for her anti-war, anti-policing-the-world stance.

It is going to be a knock down, drag out election season, that is for sure. Whomever wins, I’m sure a lot of people will be surprised and dismayed.

  16. DJ – Yeah, I think she is pro-choice. My friend would probably make the point that being against all the wars and military actions we’ve been involved in for the last couple decades or so is a different kind of pro-life position.

Some feel that the abortion issue is a done deal. Abortion is legal, and probably will be for the foreseeable future. Our job is to try to “change hearts and minds,” which is more effective than changing laws. The younger generations are supposedly more pro-life than boomers, which is a positive thing. So there are many conservatives and Christians who are focusing on other political issues.

I am torn about that. It is hard to imagine supporting and voting for someone who would be pro-choice, but there are other important issues.

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that President Donald Trump was working with the Pentagon to host a military parade in the District of Columbia after he was so impressed by France’s Bastille Day parade, which he witnessed in July.

“It was a tremendous day, and to a large extent because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July 4th in Washington down Pennsylvania Avenue,” Trump said last year, according to CNBC. “We’re going to have to try to top it, but we have a lot of planes going over and a lot of military might, and it was really a beautiful thing to see, and representatives from different wars and different uniforms.”

Numerous pundits immediately hit the administration with accusations of behaving like a dictatorial regime.

  20. I suspect the desire to engage in wars is at a low ebb in this country right now, not one of the top issues we face. Been there, done that, we’re all pretty much spent. I don’t see that as an immediate concern — maybe in another generation or two, or maybe not ever unless it’s a genuine WWII situation (but then, it’s always hard to tell at the time, isn’t it?). Hindsight …

I’m sorry the president is speaking at the 4th of July event, it has always been free of whomever is in office at the time. But I frankly stopped watching those some years ago, sadly.

The socialist bent of the Democrats is something I see as very serious and important to defeat. It’s actually rather alarming.

And on abortion, yes, it’s the law but … with the far-left iteration of the pro-(abortion) movement now developing, I’d find it incredibly hard to vote in that direction. Some of it is simply frightening. Things could be worse on that issue. …

The migrant camps issue is all over the left side of the internet. Its really motivating the progressive base. That base stayed home in the rust belt states last election. Its also reached conversations among my friends including my Dutch Reformed friends/relatives in Michigan and Iowa.

This issue also is contrasted to the Republican pro life stance. Democrats can rightly point out that the abortion rate is at historic lows and its time for a more comprehensive pro life position, including caring for migrant children as opposing to exploiting them for profit.

Exit polls miss the people who didn’t vote. A platform emphasizing healthcare and education will motivate new voters. Empasizing the migrant issue and the exploitation of children will also bring in new voters, enough to tip the scales in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

I don’t see the Democratic frontrunners as socialist. They are presenting pragmatic solutions and ideas. I was always imprssed by Harris so I’m glad to see her move up the polls but she’s far from a socialist. I should know I am one.

“Today, I am declaring my independence and leaving the Republican Party,” the five-term congressman wrote. “No matter your circumstance, I’m asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us….The two-party system has evolved into an existential threat to American principles and institutions.”

Amash, 39, had become increasingly isolated within the congressional GOP long before spelling out in a Twitter thread his conclusion that Trump “has engaged in impeachable conduct.” He crossed swords with the administration on the travel ban, Obamacare repeal/replace, the firing of then–FBI director James Comey, various spending increases, tariffs, the president’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, birthright citizenship, Saudi Arabia, eminent domain, and the emergency declaration along the border, for starters.”

Since the impeachment apostasy, Amash has become a GOP pariah, drawing rebukes from the very House Freedom Caucus he co-founded, defections of key financial supporters, primary challengers, and freelance sniping from Michigan’s congressional Republicans. “In this hyperpartisan environment,” Amash lamented today, “congressional leaders use every tool to compel party members to stick with the team, dangling chairmanships, committee assignments, bill sponsorships, endorsements and campaign resources.””
