  1. The year is half gone already!
    Good morning everyone.
    But Jo. Good evening Jo.
    There isn’t enough money in the world to satisfy everyone who wants some.
    I’m sure I had at least a dozen e-mails demanding that I send money to protect Trump, Hannity, and a dozen others from the evil Democrats.
    But if I sent money to one of them, I would get a dozen more.
    And I would have MAGA caps, coffee cups and t-shirts, I couldn’t use.

  2. Good Morning. The dogs and I have been up for about an hour.
    Last night Mr P changed the bandage. He took a picture so I could see what it looked like. (Somehow a picture on my phone was less scary than looking in the mirror). He convinced me to take one of the pain pills at bedtime. I don’t like them. I can’t tell they make me any different but don’t want to take a chance.
    Youngest Son is supposed to come over today and do our yard. Budget cuts around here cancelled the landscaping company. Oh it was so nice to drive down the street and see a nicely manicures lawn and trimmed shrubs. He will likely bring Little Miss. He probably doesn’t need to know some of what she does at Mimi and Papa’s (Yes, she HAS changed his name). I really am looking forward to giving her an artificially flavored ice pop. 😇

    Do you have anyone in your life that just irritates you?
    Why do you think they irritate you? Do you see something in them that reminds you of yourself? Is it something you don’t like in yourself? Or are they just a know it all that wants everyone to know thy know it all?

  4. Morning all from Australia. I went to the aquarium today and then took a very long walk. There is along park and path along the esplanade.I duct taped all of my baskets or tubs together in groups and then weighted them so those are in the garage here and ready to go. I have no idea when our aviation dept is planning a flight here for cargo. Of course, if there is a medevac, they will take the cargo on the way back.

    So glad Kim is posting and feeling well enough that pain medicine is taken to follow doctor’s orders and not because of terrible out of control pain. ♡

    Australia sounds lovely, Jo. Many years ago I thought I might like to live there on a sheep farm. That was what I dreamed of when I felt tired of being in the city. But when Wesley came along and I learned about all the creatures that live in Australia besides the sheep, I decided it might be a bit much to be there out in the boonies. The cities are probably a good bit like our cities. There are good sections and not so good sections. I do remember a rather handsome guy from Austrailia with a charming accent who worked for state government back in my single days. But he did not wear deodorant. Is that common there? We saw a news report this past week that said many young people here in the states are not using deodorant. That surprised me.

  8. My brother irritates me when he teases me and acts like we are still Kids. At least he does not pull my hair. He was never one to do that.🤒

    Yes, there is one lady I can think of who usually has a critical thought to say about anything I might do. When I recognize it is not only me she does this to, then I realize it is her own need for recognition and being lifted up above others that causes her to do that. I try to avoid it if possible. Otherwise I allow myself to feel sorry for her and her neediness that repels people.

  9. The flower pictures are from our community garden. When I don’t go there as frequently to see things growing up to bloom stage, it is surprising to see the whole place in bloom all at once.

  11. DJ – Last night you mentioned that Carol has been eating a lot of sugar-free candy, and also has been having stomach problems.

    I don’t know if sugar-free candy still has the same ingredient as it did 10 – 15 years ago, but my mom, a diabetic, found that it gave her diarrhea. So maybe it is the sugar-free candy that is bothering Carol’s stomach, or is at least part of the problem.

  12. Yesterday, at the family church, the head deacon had something to say about tomorrow (today) being Canada Day*. When interim pastor got up to preach, he remarked: “Tomorrow may be Canada Day, but the highest of the holy days is three days thereafter.” The interim pastor is, like so many pastors in Canada, originally from the U.S., but retired here after spending years teaching in one of Toronto’s seminaries.

    *Canada Day used to be called Dominion Day, because Canada’s full historical title (seldom used anymore) is the Dominion of Canada, based on Psalm 72:8: “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.” The Latin motto on our coat of arms is also based on that verse, A mari usque ad mare, ‘From sea to sea’.

  13. Kim QoD: Yes, there are several people who really irritate me in the family church. Why? Because they come to church not to worship a God they serve during the week, but to preen themselves on how much better they are than the world. They are cultural Christians who want, “All this and heaven too”, so they sit around and criticize the rest of the world for being sinful, but do not so much as lift a finger to help a sinner find Christ.

    I tried my best to sit out on the porch this morning but the pollens were too much for me…sneezing something awful! I shall try this afternoon when the rains come in.
    Good to hear you are healing Kim and that the Mr is taking good care. Perhaps Little Miss will want to help once she sees your owie.. 🤕
    There was recently a person in our lives who irritated my last nerve. I love helping others in need…but when I see someone manipulate others to do for them when they are perfectly capable and able…that is irritating. And the whining that goes along with said manipulation really does me in! Sometimes you just have to walk away…..

    Kizzie, yes, she told me there were cautions on the candy packages not to eat too many at one time and I told her to be sure to heed that. But I’m not sure she can.

    With all the intestinal surgeries she’s had through the years, she is not able to digest food normally, it races right through her. Unfortunately, when she gets paid lately she’s spending much of her free money on ordering large quantities of bad things from the local supermarket that delivers. She also had I think 2 six-packs of diet Pepsi when I saw her on Saturday. By Sunday afternoon they were mostly gone.

    She seems to go on binges with her spending, sometimes it’s “stuff” — a new e-tablet, new smart phone, or other gadget; but currently it seems to be junk food, candy and diet drinks.

    It’s a 3-day week for me, then I’ll have a 4-day weekend. Tomorrow the mobile groomer comes to get my dogs looking like they should.

  19. The person who most irritates me? Me. Why do I get frustrated so easily? Why am I so quick to blame others? Why don’t I take the time to memorize Scripture as I know I should? Why do I eat the things I shouldn’t? Why do I say the things I shouldn’t? Why do I do the things I shouldn’t and not do the things I should? The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

    Vernon was a good friend forever, but not a good roommate.
    Vernon like to talk. He woke up talking.
    At Tolley and I used to go to hear Vernon preach (supply) on occasion. We contributed a lot to his preaching style by “Stick to your notes, Vernon!” With Vernon’s early sermons it was “And one more thing”.
    A great guy, but he never ran out of something to say.

  21. And I am the opposite person. You don’t want to be around me before breakfast.
    When I was working, I always got up at 5;20 got ready and was on the road by 6:00.
    It took me 25 minutes to drive to work.
    By the time I got there, I was in good shape to deal with people
    I needed that early time to myself.

  22. QoD: People who stop at yield signs when no one is coming. There is a new traffic circle by the hospital here, and the locals haven’t learned how to use it. They stop before entering the circle, not realizing that you only need to stop if someone is approaching from the left in the circle.

  23. I thn=ink Kim’s QoD would make a good rant and rave thread. Of course, we’d all be ranting, not raving.

    So here is an alternate QoD: Is there anyone you know personally that you wish you could emulate more?

    I think of my pastor. He is very patient and rarely, if ever, shows annoyance with people. When he was a teacher, the students learned that f he walked out of the room suddenly, then they were going to get in trouble if they didn’t stop misbehaving. He also talks to anyone who will listen about the Lord. Once, there was a mock hostage drill at our school. His class was were tho ones chosen to be hostages. He witnessed to the deputy who was playing the role of the shooter. Some said that if they were held hostage, they would want him in the room with them, as he kept it calm.

  25. I have met a lot of good people with a lot of good character traits. I could use some of the traits but none have had a life I would want. I like mine.

    I could use the patience of our pastor, the courage of our last pastor, the faith of my teacher friend, etc….

Peter’s QoD: My mother & grandmother; an elderly friend at the city church who is single, childless, and has no siblings, but is very selfless, speaking of and caring more for the needs of others than her own; and our mutual friend, Aji suun, whose courage in carrying out ministry in the face of a chronic debilitating illness has been an inspiration.

  28. I’ve been listening to an interview from June 28 between Metaxas and Canon J. John, an evangelist.

    He just said something surprised both Metaxas and me. Muslim believe at death they’re going to Paradise–but God is not there.

    John commented that Christianity is the only religion that says we can know God. None of the others, of course, are about a personal relationship. Fascinating.

  30. Traffic circles are ok if people understand them.
    What irritated me was the “all way” stop signs. There were lots of them in Hendersonville
    Four way stop, then go according your turn. The problem was people who were too courteous. They didn’t take their turn and it created confusion.
    The rule for all traffic situations.
    If you have the right of way, take it.
    Otherwise, let the other guy take his.
    In the DC area, you could always count on at least one car running the light after it changed to red.

  31. As a kid, I heard all kinds of interesting words when my father became stuck on one. ‘Round and ’round we went, my mom laughing and my dad in a complete fit by our 3rd time around and ready to kill the engineers who would design such a thing.

  32. I was anonymous. I was on my iPad instead of my phone, so that is perhaps why. We shall see if that remains to be true now that I am back on the computer.

    I just told a woman how much I admire how she speaks the truth in love on Facebook. She always has such well articulated answers and does not accept poor arguments. You know she still cares about you, however.

    There are many people I do admire for the grace they show to others and sacrifices they have made to do what they believe God wants them to do.

  34. We have a small one here that is referred to as the “rotary”. The problem here is that people often don’t yield.

    There are plans for a “roundabout” in another part of town, which will supposedly be safer for that area, which has had some accidents, but most people are complaining (on Facebook) about the idea since “no one” knows how to drive correctly through the rotary that we already have.

  35. We deal with traffic circles at Hilton Head. They are okay unless you get off at the wrong road. While we are there we are not in a hurry so if we miss the right turn off then it’s no big deal. I think it could be bad to be on one daily when trying to get to work on time during rush hour.

  36. I suppose I could take specific qualities of women I admire and tack those qualities onto myself to enhance myself and make a better version of me. The only person in full I would want to emulate in most ways would be Jesus. I would not want to be male like him.

  37. Our traffic circle — it’s still there — is on a very busy roadway, has several lanes and several off-shoots. If you’re not in exactly the right lane, traveling at a good clip to keep up with everyone else (and unlikely to be able to change lanes easily), you’re sunk.

    Our pastor has said he’s taken traits he admires in other people worked to make them part of his personality as well. I actually think that’s a good approach.

    We should always be more focused on our own shortcomings and sins than on other people’s — but it’s so much easier to see in someone else. 😦

  38. Good afternoon. I’ve missed chatting with you guys.

    QoD: Seeing favoritism irritates me. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that favoritism rattles my sense of justice. It doesn’t seem fair to me that some people are treated so highly, and others almost (or very much) disdainfully.

    Alternate QoD: A friend of mine from church is someone I’d love to emulate. She’s got to be the sweetest, most patient and giving person I’ve ever met. I’ve never heard an unkind word to or about anyone come out of her mouth. She sees the good in everything, even in the most trying of circumstances, and doesn’t dwell on the negative. She’s a true role model when it comes to putting her full faith and confidence in God. Her life has not been easy (she is the friend who, not once, but twice, lost a baby within an hour after birth), but she is filled with praises to God for the home-going of those two daughters, plus the earlier child she miscarried, and for the privilege she has to raise the four children she has on earth.

    I have a lot to learn from her what real gratitude and the joy of the Lord are all about. It’s a blessing to have such a friend.

  40. Nightingale stayed after her shift (after punching out – or however they handle that) to give one of her patients a little manicure. Sometimes she can do something like this during her shift, but was too busy today. The lady’s nails were too long and in bad shape, and she was asking so nicely, so Nightingale decided to stay for a little while and take care of her nails for her.

    She trimmed them and shaped them, and pushed back the cuticles. Then she got a little cup full of the nursing supervisor’s personal hand-cream and rubbed in into the lady’s nails and hands.

    My sometimes-terse daughter with the no-nonsense streak sure can be a sweetheart at times, as I well know.

  41. Lots of traffic circles around here, can be very disconcerting. My friend said just to go around, but they have lanes and I was in the wrong lane as another car cut me off. No worries, but it was a little tense for a moment. i will be going that way again today.

  42. 2nd QOD: When I first read the question my immediate thought was “Mrs. Causey”…then I thought of “Mrs. Thompson”…..and of course I believe we all strive to be more like Christ. The thing about these two ladies is that they were the older women the Lord placed into my life when I was very young in the Lord. They discipled and mentored me with such grace and wisdom. Mrs. Causey attended our church in Myrtle Beach and Mrs. Thompson was our Pastor’s wife. How they loved our Lord, their husbands and children….thankful am I to our Lord for their love shown to me…..
