Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 118:1-14

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his love endures forever.

2 Let Israel say:
    “His love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say:
    “His love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say:
    “His love endures forever.”

5 When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
    he brought me into a spacious place.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
    I look in triumph on my enemies.

8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in humans.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in princes.
10 All the nations surrounded me,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
11 They surrounded me on every side,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
12 They swarmed around me like bees,
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
13 I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and my defense;
    he has become my salvation.

  1. My writer friend Kim is still in Stanford’s ICU awaiting a lung transplant. She’s been there for 4.5 months and her health is fading. She’s been a source of great encouragement to many in the ICU during her time there. She cannot live outside of the ICU, now.

  2. Prayer for husband who continues to struggle with twenty two’s challenges. How to help her. Wisdom. And contentment.

    Prayer for seventeen who is deeply sad. Not angry, just sad. The deepest sadness I have even seen in her. May she look to God.

  3. Please pray for my daughter-in-law who has been in such pain the nine weeks since childbirth. She finally got in to see a surgeon–after a month-long wait–and the issue was not what the other doctors had thought.

    They now know what the issue is and it may resolve itself–the pain has finally eased some–but if not, she’ll end up in surgery.

    I can’t give you any more details, and they’re immaterial anyway. It’s a relief from pain and physical resolution we’re asking for, complete healing.

    The schoolgirls are now home for the summer–which can be good and bad. They’re coming to pick strawberries at my house on Monday and spend a few hours with me.

  4. Praying for those requests which are heavy duty, indeed. I hope and pray God will find some resolution for each request that will show His power and glory to overcome what seems to be impossible situations.

  5. The 30 days of prayer focus is for Jordan. The ancient countries of Moab, Ammon, Edom, and the province of Gilead were located in Jordan’s territory. The small country was split from the British protectorate of Palestine after WWII and given by the British as a kingdom to the Hashemite clan, who had been allies of the British during WWI. The Hashemites, who were descendant of Muhammad’s tribe and guardians of Mecca and Medina, rebelled against their Ottoman overlords and fought alongside the British to free Syria (Palestine was a part of Syria). But the British broke their promises and Jordan was something of a belated afterthought after the British and French divided the Otttoman territory that they had promised the Hashemites would be made independent and self ruling. The Hashemite monarch of Jordan, Abdullah II, is custodian of the Christian and Muslim historical sites in Old Jerusalem. The Hashemites are at peace with Israel – in fact, the first Hashemite monarch, Abdullah I (the current king’s great grandfather), was assassinated because of his peaceful attitude toward Israel.

    A mainly desert country, just over 9 million people live in Jordan, with just under 2 million Palestinian refugees and over 4 million Syrian refugees. The culture is Bedouin, as Jordan was mainly settled by Bedouin tribes, including the famed Bedouin hospitality. Christians form about 3 percent of the population, mainly Orthodox. Converting to Christianity is hard for a Muslim because of intense family pressure to remain in the religion in which one was born. Pray for a fulfillment of the promise that was made concerning Moab and Ammon in Jeremiah 48:47 and 49:6, that in the last days, the Lord would end the captivity of Moab and Ammon, and that the Jordanians might find the fulfillment of that promise in Jesus Christ, whose earthly ancestry includes Ruth the Moabite.

  6. Prayers for 3rd Arrow (A), and for a young man (J), whom we are meeting today. J is a former co-worker of hers, and plans to attend our church’s 8:00 worship and a Bible study afterwards, by A’s request. J grew up Mormon, but is not currently active as one. They get along well, and he’s interested in dating her. She said she would like him to come to church with her first. He said, “Your faith is important to you, isn’t it?” She responded, “It’s THE most important thing in my life.”

    Prayers for the seeds of faith in Christ to be sown in J’s life, and for A and J in the relationship that God would have for them.

  7. Son broke up with his Mormon bait. She said they would have to be Mormon. He thought they believed the same but husband pointed out, if so, she would be able to agree to any Christian church. And that the Mormons would see to his tithing, not to worry. He was quite crushed. Maybe he feels more for the string of broken hearts he has left behind. Praying that our children will see and follow.

  8. 3rd Arrow’s co-teacher when she taught Sunday school a few years ago was a young woman whose dad grew up Mormon. In fact, his parents were the “founders” (don’t know if that’s the correct term) of the Mormon worship center in our area.

    By the grace of God, her dad is a Christian now, and a faithful member of our church who is present in worship every week. All of the children were raised Christian.

    God is able to work all things out according to His good and perfect will. It is why I requested prayer.

    Mumsee, it would have been much more encouraging to me, if you were going to go to the effort to write anything in response to my request, if you’d said that you were praying, instead of writing about your son’s bad experience with “Mormon bait.”

  9. That is how they are trained. One should be aware. Go outside the circle and bring people in. In took thirty years in my cousin’s case but he finally folded. He can now call her into heaven.

  10. I knew a woman who was being wooed by some Mormons to join their “church”. They did all sorts of nice things for her, helping her out in various ways. But she eventually realized that as nice as they were, their main reason for doing so was to get her into the Mormon religion. I think it was when they were talking about fixing her up to marry one of the men that she got nervous and backed away.

    May God open the eyes of the Mormon people, to find and believe in the true Jesus and His Word.

  11. It is one of the pillars of the faith, be nice to people until it is clear you are not going to bring them in then move on. My sister used to tell me the mormon neighbors were so nice to her (and they were). I told her they were trying to get her to become a Mormon. The difference is that Christians should continue to be nice, though there is a time to shake the dust.

  13. I am well aware of Mormon theology. I did a lot of research on it during the many months I was witnessing one-to-one to a young Mormon woman a few years ago, and learned much about it just through her interactions with me.

    I felt like you were treating me like an idiot who needs to be warned about something you apparently think I know little to nothing about.

    It has been a taxing week and month and longer, and on top of it all, today I had hoped to have, if not words affirming that people are praying about this situation with my daughter and J, then at least not “information” that you think I need to be clued in on.

    I felt mightily unsupported to come here and read this afternoon what you had written. I didn’t come to the prayer thread this morning to be educated. If I had wanted that, I would have asked.

    But thank you for your apology. Sometime it will help me feel better; just not at the moment.

  14. I took a walk and feel better now. Thank you.

    Tomorrow we’re starting the new school year. Everything’s ready to go. The next nine months will be busy with school, not to mention traveling for visits to see a little grandbaby now and then, who is due next month. I’m also adding weekly trips with 5th and 6th Arrows to my parents’ house (in a neighboring state) to help them.

    It’s been difficult to keep up here on the blog lately, and that will get harder yet. Apologies in advance for not being a good friend to y’all here. I don’t feel like I have any more to give at this time beyond what I can give to family and local friends/colleagues.

    Apologies for how snippy I was on this thread. I have only excuses, not reasons. I’m sorry.

    A told me tonight that J told her he felt very welcomed by everyone today, at church and later at our home. (We had him over for lunch.) He wants to come back to church and Bible study with us.
