  4. Good morning, y’all! I can like your comments for the moment.

    I had a text from my friend, Karen she has an SI concusion and sprained neck. I am thinking this may relate to the first fall she had a week or so ago since she was unconscious then. She was fully conscious when we spoke yesterday but I will know later.

    For anyone who knows medicine, what is an SI concussion? When I googled it Sports Illustrated came up first and then the next possibility was Sports Injury. I know she was not playing sports, but is that what they are labeling a specific type of injury?

  5. Yesterday the pollen count was the 5th worse in Atlanta since they began keeping record in 1991. I think all the rainfall of the past year has really made things grow and bloom. We have more blooms than ever this year. Also, azalea blooms in the yard really increased from getting all the honeysuckle vines off of them. It is a constant battle. I go out often and pull those creepy vines.

  7. Good Morning. Amos had me up at 6. He, Lou, and I have had breakfast.
    Mr. P will be off in a little while to bring Missy home. Tonight she will spend the night so tomorrow her mommy and daddy can get ready for her party. My manipulative husband!!!! He comes up with all sorts of ways to help out her poor, exhausted parents. 😉
    It’s OK. There is a “hidden” children’s park in town. It is in a triangle of land where 3 roads intersect in a residential area. It is fenced and has see saws, a slide, swings, and a climbing thing for small ones.
    Yesterday I had her on my lap facing me because we had been playing patty cake and round and round the garden. I had to take a phone call from one of my agents so I started rocking the chair to keep her quiets. Her littles eyes got heavy and she fell asleep sitting up.
    I see an exhausted MiMi at the end of this day.

    Oh and Amos is trying his beat to teach her how to play with him. He takes her his squeaky toy, she takes it and holds it out, he snatches it from her, runs around the living room, brings it back and starts the game again. I really ought to video that. He has even decided to allow her to touch him. He is a little dog and she was too rough. We have had to teach them both what “easy” means Lest you be afraid he may hurt her, his mouth won’t open big enough to bite and the only times he clenches is jaw is when it is time for medicine.

  9. Morning! That is a beautifully serene photo up there…so calm and still. I realized this morning that we are gifted a fresh glimpse of His creation and beauty every morning here on this gathering place. Thank you all who intentionally share part of your world with us!
    This forest has a fresh scent of rain this morning. I do believe I will be opening these windows to bring the outside in if even for a little bit! 🌧

  11. We’re not geese haters. We just don’t like what hundreds of them in one place leave behind.

    RK- June 18 or 19, depending on when we leave Tucson. We’ve reserved a house until the 18th, but if we have lunch with my folks that day, we wouldn’t leave until mid afternoon. We want to get back here so I can be in the cave June 21. Anyway, I’m planning on taking US54 out of Alamogordo to Santa Rosa, then onto to Wichita on 54, so we could meet you somewhere between Las Cruces and Tucumcari. I know there isn’t much along that route, but then, New Mexico is rather sparsely populated. That makes it more beautiful, though.

    I googled hat jam. There is a Magic Hat Jam that seems to be some sort of mix of alcoholic beverages. There is also some gaming called Hat Jam. The best I can tell it is based on putting the names of games in a hat and choosing two from which to design a new jam up game. Does anyone here have knowledge of that?

    I just got in from pruning the apple tree. I was still in my pajamas (I was also wearing rubber boots and a jacket.) I love living where I can go outside in my pjs and no-one will see 🙂

  14. People do that all the time here, wear PJs outside. I saw a guy walking down the street the other day wearing pajama bottoms like it was the most perfectly natural thing to wear in the middle of the day.

    I need to head to the vet’s to pick up more dog meds that I forgot to add to the list when I went just 2 weeks ago. My cousin wanted to get together later today but I’m going to take a rain check, I’m beat. And Monday will be here all too quickly.

    I’ll do some watering later today and maybe hang a picture or 2.

    I still don’t have my income tax return.

  17. I dreamed about yard sales and working at a library with hardly any books. A former co-worker was also working there and we were trying to help a patron find the book of Isaiah in a free-standing format.

  20. Good morning. Warm and breezy here today. I need to bring my wayward calf back home today. He got into the neighbor’s.

    SI stands for suicidal ideation in our facility. That does not even make sense, so that’s not it. Sometimes the Dr is looking for his diagnosis on the computerized list and can’t find anything that fits, so puts in the closest thing . It’s all about ICD-10 codes.

  21. Hmm, our google maps picture is 6 years old. We can tell because the siding isn’t replaced yet on the house, we have a large wood pile and evidence of the new well we put in. I wonder when they’ll update it.

    Also, I don’t wear my pjs in public 🙂

  27. Google has my house while it was under construction.
    So far today we have explored the round of the hollow sounds of the rain pipes and the sound of beating on the back of a #3 washtub siding on the back of the house and the sound of brick. She has also been learning to climb steps so we are learning how to get down them safely.
    She and grandpa are exhausted and down for their mid-day nap.
    Me? I am enjoying the silence and the birds chirping.

  32. In Nashville, a housemate once brought up google maps to show a friend the house she was living in. And she said, “Oh, that’s Cheryl in the front yard!” She showed me the image later. My face wasn’t recognizable, but the image was clear enough I knew what outfit I was wearing. (And my car was in the carport.) I wasn’t aware when they took it, but it was surreal to see it later.

  34. Cheryl, You are going to have to come back! We have a new ice cream shop in town called Suzie Q’s. They sell rolled ice cream. I got the banana split and Mr. P got strawberry shortcake, Missy got some of each.

  35. Cheryl mentioned the dandelions and they are up here as well. Very tasty. I had some this afternoon during early chores. Along with some sweet and juicy hollyhock leaves. And some rather bitter mustards.

  36. I had bacon for breakfast. First time in ages, it was so good. Eggs, too.

    I need to hang the trolley print, I keep putting it off. There are so many things to do in the house right now but I can’t seem to just do one thing. I just walk from room to room.

    I did sit out on the porch for a while, beautiful day but it’s windy and very cool, almost cold. I can’t seem to focus on anything. I guess I’m still kind of “brain” tired from yesterday.

  37. I got out and pulled more honeysuces off the azaleas. They are like Jumanji vines. If you take down one, ten more sprout in its place. I have pulled out a few azalea limbs with the vines because the vines have such a stranglehold on the plants. I feel terrible when that happens.

  39. I sent the Pampered Chef products in with Art today. I had not talked to him about getting them, but since I usually give nice plants for people to plant in their yard, I figured this would be okay since I can’t get to a plant store. Last night I showed Art the products and how they are used. He did not seem very enthusiastic so I felt a bit badly. I called my brother at the office today to make sure Art gave the gifts to the two ladies before they left. My brother said they had a little ceremony and the ladies were thrilled to get Pampered Chef products. Brother said Art even gave a demonstration of how to use the products. So he is probably very happy with my decision.
    All’s well that ends well.

  40. Cheryl, I try to pull them up by the roots, but sometimes they can be tangled with others attached to the plant so I am unaware until I have accidentally broken a limb. We have a lot to spare so I guess I should consider it to be a little pruning, but to break a limb with buds on it still hurts. I am more aware now so will be extra careful.

  41. I have honeysuckle here, too — they’re beautiful but really caused some damage to the wood on my windows on the south side (they cling to the house & hold in moisture, not good for houses). I had the gardener cut them down and cut out the roots where he could before all this work began and especially when the painting was about to launch. They’re massive and not easy to get out.

  46. At our HOP day today, I pulled dandelions–getting up the roots–in soggy, heavy clay soil. Exhausting. I’m not sure we did all that needed doing, but the homeowner loved hearing I was an author and is thinking about writing a book . . .

    My tennis shoes had an inch of adobe mud caked on the bottom. I walked in convenient potholes filled with water and at least returned to normal height.

  48. DJ – Last night you mentioned having to drive to the vet’s office to get flea meds. Are they available online? I buy Advantix for Heidi on Amazon.

    Advantix has been the best flea med we’ve had for her. On the others, including Frontline, she would still get bit and get all itchy, with raw hot spots on her. (She is allergic to flea bites.) The Advantix repels the fleas as well as killing them, so she doesn’t get bit, at least not too often. When we started using it a couple or so years ago, it was the first time in years that she didn’t have hot spots and awful itching.

    (And yes, Mumsee, we tried using diatomaceous earth on her. 🙂 )

    Kizzie, my dogs are on Trifexis which is a combo flea/heartworm/other parasite pill that requires a prescription. I could probably get the prescription transferred to Chewy.com (which I use for the cat’s and Cowboy’s food now that they’re on prescription diets) or Dr. Foster & Smith, not sure if it might be cheaper through them, but it could be. I also can have my vet mail meds out for extra charge but it’s just as easy to pick it up.

  55. Interesting to see Prince Harry’s view on Fortnite as he has been known as such a party animal, game player. Is he growing up or is Fortnite really that bad? The games are certainly developed with the idea of captivating the youth, like vaping and social media and other things, but is it more so?

  56. Mumsee – I haven’t read Prince Harry’s article yet (I will), but from other things I have read and seen (sometimes The Boy watches YouTube videos of people playing Fortnite), there is some creativity involved, and challenges the players need to overcome.

    As for the killing the enemy, doesn’t that go back to children playing “cowboys and Indians” or “war”?

    My thoughts on these things is somewhere between the alarmist views and the view that throughout history, any time some new technology (even the printing press) came along, people put up a big fuss about how it would make society go to hell in a hand-basket.

    Interestingly, except for the mass shootings, violent crimes in general have declined greatly in the past few decades, even with the growth of these video games. (Of course, we could joke that that is because the guys are too busy with their video games to be committing crimes. 😀 )

    Not saying there may not be a problem, though. I think it depends on the person and their family life. A lot of people can spend a lot of time playing video games such as Fortnite, but also hold down jobs and have other outside interests. I tend to think that the problem with some folks getting addicted to Fortnite (or other things, such as the current opioid crisis) is more a symptom of a larger problem than being the actual problem itself.

  57. To be fair, I have previously said that The Boy and X spend most of their time playing video games. But it has come to my attention that they are doing more outside activities since the weather had been milder. (“Milder” according to New England standards, but still cold according to southern or Californian standards. 😀 )

  59. Fortnite: I suspect it is a lot like all the other games. I walked in on one of the boys and his friend when some guy was slapping some girl. That has been around for at least fifteen years. I suggested that was not something I ever wanted to see again in my house. They honored that. But what I have seen and heard, a lot of the video games encourage violence against women and others. But, like you said, Kizzie, a lot of them are too busy playing to act it out. We see that all the time when we see that those young people are hanging out alone in their rooms, chatting with online folk or friends. Going out to dinner and staying on their phones. Going to class and staying on their phones (though most schools don’t allow it, it is quite prevalent because it is not enforced and because children are sneaky). No longer shooting hoops or fishing or skateboarding or whatever.

  60. The turtle header was from two weeks ago, if I recall correctly. It was the first “turtle day” of the season. We’d had warmer days already, but somehow that was the day that turtles knew it was proper to come out. I think I saw at least seven turtles that day, including these four, two snapping turtles, and one more somewhere else. There were two turtles on this log when I went back by, which might or might not have been some of the same ones.

    Usually turtles on logs plop into the water as soon as people go by, but these turtles had not been out sunning in months. They were dirty, they were probably a bit sleepy, and they wanted sun more than they wanted privacy, so I could “take my time” getting a photo and not quickly snap a quick shot through the grasses and hope they don’t dive while I’m getting it (which is what usually happens).

    On Janice’s question, I think the SI concussion might be referring to the grade or severity of the concussion, but I am not sure of the specific grading criteria.

    Prince Harry is just a few months older than I. I am not sure he was ever so completely the party animal the tabloids portrayed him as being. He actually was part of the British military contingent in Afghanistan, until some irresponsible tabloid got hold of his location and blabbed about it, putting him and his whole unit in danger. He has been quite active in charity work, following in the footsteps of his mother; and now he is a married man (in Jane Austen’s day, it was quite common for a man to wait until his late twenties, early thirties to settle down to married life – it still is in other parts of the world, most young men in the West African culture do not get married until that age). Being a subject of Queen Elizabeth II, I neither put the royal family on a pedestal nor do I think their lives are entertainment fodder for the gutter press. They are simply human beings.

  63. Talked today with an elderly missionary from Central Africa. He might have had a time machine and come directly from the Victorian era, complete with muttonchops and an old fashioned style of diction. He and I spoke about my future – nothing formal, just a preliminary exploration of one possibility. If my future is in mission work, the city church is a veritable spider web of avenues.

Being the descendant of loyal subjects and maybe not so loyal subjects of the throne, and being a child of the King, I have been well pleased with how the boys have turned out and their marriages. Of course, being the younger, Harry had to venture out on his own a bit and did some missteps, but overall, they are doing quite well. Harry with his piloting, William with his training to be king. Both with their involvement in their families and charities and other such. They generally seem to do their jobs with confidence and decorum. I hope they are both believers and I try to remember to pray for the whole lot when I think of them. A very difficult position to be in which I do not envy, But they do well. And by the way, I was simply quoting Prince Harry on that, not the tabloids.

  65. On Fortnite and other computer games, I am no gamer, but I know something of that world. The student I was with in Nunavut was an avid gamer, and Eldest sibling in-law, who is a responsible husband and father and works a 9 to 5 job for which he had to get a PhD, is also, from whom Eldest Niece has learned the craft. All of the Eldest’s children game to some extent, but Eldest Niece is the one most like her father, approaching gaming as an art, rather than an entertainment form. She even writes intelligent reviews of games (in addition to books and films). My fellow student used to talk about gaming to me, reminding me very much of Eldest Niece, only without the Christian perspective Eldest Niece has. Incidentally, Youngest in-law was also an avid gamer until he decided the war game Warhammer – which involves making actual physical models of soldiers and armaments – was what he wanted to focus on as a hobby. Fortnite has never been very well spoken of among the gamers I know, who prefer games with well written narratives that communicate something. The games they play may or may not involve fighting and killing, but there must be a compelling reason for it – one of the games they have spoken about, whose name I cannot remember, actually can be won either by killing everyone or cooperating with everyone, but the winning outcome is different depending on the choice the player made at the beginning. Fortnite seems to be one of those games that is mindless, that has no statement to make about the world and only exists to distract, like reading trashy novels or watching soap operas.

  66. Mumsee, Prince Harry only said he was an avid gamer. As I have just noted of the gamers I know, I do not automatically consider gaming an irresponsible choice. It can be a genuine art form and have much worth saying. Eldest Niece, who has shown talent with both computer programming and story writing has considered combining them in game making and I have encouraged her to investigate the avenue, as the gaming world is an enormous, multinational field ripe for the harvest. Prince Harry was criticizing Fortnite, not gaming in general.

  68. When I spoke to Karen, she said she did not remember putting in the SI so all she thought was maybe she write “Is concusion” and it came out “SI.” But thank you all for trying to help me figure it out.

    We finally finished going through the book of Acts after a year at church today. I think next we will go through one of the letters of Paul. Art has been taking me to church and each week I have been asking different people for rides home. I am trying to spread the joy around and not ask the same people every week.

    It’s coincidental that the online Bible study I do each weekday has just finished up a study of 2nd Kings. It was a great study with a group of ladies.

  71. In Life Group today we began a short video series about the seven statements Jesus made from the cross. We are having good discussions. One woman brought up a concern she has about the people before Christ and if they were able to be saved. I said I had heard that God had provided for them and counted faith to be their righteousness. I was trying to think more about it and considered that before Jesus took on flesh, He dwelled with the Father and Holy Spirit in heaven so if people had faith in God before Jesus came to earth then they had faith in what they knew of God and also in His unknown parts. Is that a way to explain it that makes sense? She specifically was mentioning Abraham and I said that God countedi his faith to be righteousness for him. Any comments?

  86. so frustrating. More rain of course. But I got an email to come pick up my car. It needs a new radiatior and a new engine, but I can limp along around here. But first they were charging the battery. So I went down in the afternoon in the rain and it is still charging. I will go back tomorrow. This walking in the rain is quite wet. If you didn’t know.
