  1. The backbone of the party.

    https://townhall.com/columnists/johndempsey/2018/10/09/thanks-to-trump-the-republican-leadership-has-a-backbone-now-n2526606

“It appears that Republican leaders finally enjoy winning. The ironic part is that President Trump taught them how to win, and how to use gumption. ”
    ——————–

“The Democratic Party has gotten their way for decades. They mastered the art of using identity politics to manipulate Republican colleagues into getting their way. The left simply called the right sexist, racist, misogynistic, Islamophobic and so on and they always backed off, so Democrats won. This time was different.

In most cases, Republican leadership would have convinced the president to withdraw his nominee and put someone the Democrats would vote to confirm, but that never happened. Instead, Kavanaugh pushed back and asked for a hearing under oath when the accusation arose and was supported by Trump.

Trump is a self-described counter puncher and rarely goes after anyone without provocation, despite what the media portrays. He watched Kavanaugh’s speech on television and expressed his admiration of Kavanaugh’s defense and defiance of the Democrats.

Trump taught Republican leadership that it is okay and beneficial to push back on Democrats the last two years, and it appears the message was received. He pushed back on lies, and right-wing voters loved it. When Democrats criticize Trump, he responds. At first, his style was hated by most except his base, but he did not care. After almost two years, it looks like right-wing leaders adopted Trump’s style regarding Democratic Party attacks and pushing back.”

  2. Because he fights, and someone on the R side needed to for a change.

    http://thefederalist.com/2018/10/07/the-he-fights-mantra-of-trump-supporters-pays-off-with-big-wins/

“It is a common thing for supporters of President Trump, even as early as when he was a candidate, to say “He Fights”. And yes, he does fight. He fights everyone. He gets into all kinds of scraps that are pointless and unnecessary. He insults when he doesn’t need to. He draws a bead on the thing any opponent is weakest on, and he fires away. Sometimes this is a clever move. Sometimes it is foolhardy. But the “He Fights” slogan distracts from what actually matters: that not infrequently, by fighting, he wins – as he did Friday with the announcement that not just Susan Collins, but Joe Manchin would vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

It’s the winning that matters to Republican voters, not just the fighting. He won a culture war over the flag by fighting it (and sending Mike Pence to fight it). He won a trade deal people found very unlikely by fighting. And now he won a Court seat that at many points, many smart prognosticators believed was lost. Trump’s supporters have taken over the Republican Party not just because they like him, but because they believe his approach to politics has been consistently vindicated.”

“Robert Flanders: “how embarrassing for Rhode Island to have a man in the U.S. Senate who would take a judicial candidate through flatulence entries, ‘ralphing’ throwing up, the f-word.”
    ———————

“Sheldon Whitehouse, the incumbent Rhode Island Democrat Senator, has been mocked nationally for his bizarre and intense interrogation of Brett Kavanaugh over high school yearbook entries Whitehouse suggested were sexual references.

Kavanaugh pushed back, explaining that the term “boofing” meant flatulence, “ralphing” was vomiting, and “Devil’s Triangle” was a drinking game. Whitehouse refused to accept Kavanaugh’s testimony, even though high school classmates backed up Kavanaugh.

Former Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice Robert Flanders, the Republican challenger, has hit Whitehouse in a TV ad that also is going viral on social media.”

The issue came up during a televised debate tonight on WPRI 12 in Rhode Island.

Flanders accused Whitehouse of “political flatulence” in his obsession with the yearbook, and of character assassination against Kavanaugh:”

  4. We already knew this.

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/10/paid-activists-seen-directing-anti-kavanaugh-capitol-hill-protests/

“Vice DC bureau chief Shawna Thomas told Jon Karl of ABC News on Sunday that some organizations placed their paid staff and consultants among the protesters against now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. From Newsbusters:

“So, Vice News actually spent a lot of time with the protesters over this past week. We saw the President say these were professional protesters paid by George Soros est. est.,” Karl mocked. “Who were these people, what was going on?”

After talking about following the efforts of a group of Native-Americans talking with Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski (R), Thomas shifted to talking about those who “organized”. “And that moment with Jeff Flake on the Hill, we talked to one woman who worked for Ultraviolet who was paid. She helped steer people in the right ways to be able to confront senators,” she admitted.

“So, there were paid…” Karl trailed off seemingly dumbfounded as Thomas continued. “There were people who were paid by organizations like Ultraviolet to try to harness that energy in a way that would make the viral moments that we ended up seeing,” she said.

The video shows Melissa Byrne, who is a “full time progressive activist.” Newsbusters continued:

Vice documented how she led a group of protesters through the Capitol’s many hallways to track down and ambush GOP Senators, she even took a group to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s D.C. area residence and shouted for him to come out.

“I wanted to make it so that they couldn’t walk, the Senators, couldn’t walk anywhere without seeing one of us,” Byrne told Vice. The video also showed how pleasant she was with Democratic lawmakers but would crank up the emotion on a whim, seemingly coming to the point of tears, when confronting GOP Senators. Not the best evidence against the President’s claim.

Thomas pointed out the protesters who swarmed Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) on the Hill before the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the floor.

Remember, Flake said he would vote for Kavanaugh. Right before the vote he caused a stir when he announced he would vote yes in the committee, but not on the floor unless the FBI investigated the sexual abuse allegations against Kavanaugh. Many have pointed to the protesters as the reason for his about face.”

  5. The GOP’s weakest links…..

    https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/10/lessons_learned_the_gop_weak_links.html

“There is one single major cause for the chaos surrounding Republican SCOTUS confirmations over the past thirty years – the fulcrum for the entire exercise of humiliating conservative judges. It’s not the Democrats, it’s not the left, and it’s not the feminists. They aren’t the crucial factor. They simply take advantage of it.

Quite simply put, it’s the GOP weak links.

Let’s be clear on terminology: these are not RINOs. Of the four who succeeded in disrupting the Kavanaugh nomination, none fits the classic mold of the RINO – the go-along-to-get-along type who adapts liberal principles and policies to reap benefits at the expense of rank-and-file Republicans. While this crew displays some of those characteristics, in others, it’s measurably different. Bob Corker is a traditionalist from another era, a man who thinks and acts as if it were still 1953. Jeff Flake is pure hustler, one step above – if that – Michael Avenatti. He’s whatever he needs to be at any given moment – a conservative, a NeverTrump, whatever it is he’s pretending to be now. Flake will be whatever you want – just ask. If human-sized crustaceans from Tau Ceti invaded Earth tomorrow, Flake would be running around in a lobster suit.

As for Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski…they’re oddities. Eccentric females from third-tier states.

Since the Robert Bork hearings of 1987, the Democrats have based their strategy on the dependable backstop that a certain small number of Republicans would dither, posture, and pull a Hamlet act right up until the last minute. In a Senate in which the GOP has held fifty or fifty-one seats, this is all it took to turn the simple act of confirming a justice into a cliffhanger.”

  11. We have needed more oversight on foreign investment for decades, and now it looks like we’re about to get it. This is probably related to the big technology security fails we’ve been talking about the past few days. This is pretty important and may slow down or stop some acquisitions and mergers. Long overdue.

  12. Let me explain why women are so upset.

Two years ago, for many of the women of my age group (60), their worst nightmare became president–the awful, treacly, disgusting guy who thirty years ago stood in their way, pawed them and mocked them.

Many endured sexual references, groping or other awful experiences as young women. For a variety of reasons, often involving money, fear of upsetting their parents/boyfriends/others, they did not report it.

Now those yahoos have “gotten away with it” and are their leaders. It’s unendurable. They look at those patriarchal white males whom they believe have stood in their way for years and they’re unhinged.

Even those who recognize the rule of law and that Dr. Ford didn’t have evidence, feel emotionally frustrated because yet again, they believe, “men will be men” rules the day and women are pushed to the sidelines.

    It’s an emotional reaction.

A man explained women and emotions to his son one day:

“Women believe feelings are facts. If they ask you what you’re feeling about something and you don’t tell them, they believe you are withholding facts and asking them to make a decision without sufficient information. That upsets them.

“You need to listen to their feelings, at least appear to accept them, and then move on.”

I think that’s part of what unhinged so many rational women during the Kavanaugh hearings. Feelings of outrage from the past welled up and walloped them.

Those intense feelings made it difficult to set aside all those past betrayals, particularly when they were young, and recognize facts.

I’ve been surprised at the things rational friends have said about those hearings–and I’m a woman.

I’m also five feet, nine inches tall and have seldom felt belittled or physically threatened by a man.

Men would do well not to jeer, make fun of or pour further salt into wounds that have never healed.

I’d advise Republicans to accept the fact–Judge Kavanaugh was confirmed–and move along. Expressing their feelings by gloating is only going to make it worse and widen the divide.

  13. “For that which we are about to receive, we thank thee O Trump.”

Sure it’s Trump’s fault, because the party in charge never, ever losses seats in the midterms. 🙄

Well, except for like all but 3 times in the last 85 years. In fact there’s only been 3 times they didn’t lose seats, Roosevelt in 1934, Clinton in 1998, and Bush in 2002. Every other time, the party in charge losses seats. So either Trump is a time traveler with truly awesome powers, or once again your TDS is preventing your brain from working.
    ———————-

22 midterms since 1934. In 19 of the 22 midterms the party in charge lost seats in the House. 3 times they picked up a Senate seat or 2 while losing House seats. It’s the natural cycle of politics. Stop pretending it’s something more. Haven’t you and your TDS damaged what’s left of your credibility on anything Trump related enough already?

The ABC15/OH Predictive Insights poll found McSally leading Sinema 47%-41%. In September, the same poll found in McSally leading 49%-46%.

As ABC15 reported, chief pollster Mike Noble said McSally was benefiting from the uniting of Republicans following the hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s growing support and the entrance in the race of Green Party candidate Angela Green, who siphoned off some of Sinema’s support.”

Nikki Haley may have timed her exit perfectly

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/10/politics/nikki-haley-donald-trump-election-2020-2024/index.html

Washington (CNN) Nikki Haley is getting out of the Trump administration with her stature elevated and political prospects brightened — not something that could be said for most top political power players who leave the President’s reputation-crushing fold.

Outshining the showman in chief in her Oval Office goodbye Tuesday, the outgoing US ambassador to the UN pocketed a valuable endorsement for a political career no one thinks is over.

The President, in comments that might one day find new life as a campaign ad, said Haley “has been very special to me. She’s done an incredible job. She’s a fantastic person, very importantly — but she also is somebody that gets it.”

As she sat smiling beside the President, their unusual photo op, and the generosity of a President whose good mood may owe much to his current political roll, suggested Haley has the essential ingredient of high-flying political careers — timing. …

… It’s widely assumed in Washington that Haley has a presidential run in her future — indeed, she felt it necessary to inform Trump in front of the White House press corps that she wasn’t gunning for him in 2020.

With the future in mind, it makes sense to bank political gains she has accrued in nearly two years at Turtle Bay in New York.

During that time, she has managed to avoid antagonizing the President while raising her own profile — an astute balancing act that in the jungle of the Trump administration might have been hard to sustain for much longer. …

“A one-day sweep by multiple law enforcement agencies in Wayne County resulted in the recovery of 123 missing children, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The sweep, dubbed Operation MISafeKid and conducted on Sept. 26, involved the Detroit Missing Child Recovery Unit of the U.S. Marshals Sex Offender Investigations Branch coordinated with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development — Office of Inspector General, Michigan State Police and law enforcement officers from other Wayne County agencies.

The effort in particular was aimed at locating victims of sex trafficking.

During the one-day operation, out of 301 case files, 123 children were identified and recovered safely. “Three cases were identified as being possible sex trafficking cases, and one homeless teen was transported back to the command post after it was discovered that he had not had anything to eat in three days. He was then debriefed and turned over to Child Protective Services for aftercare,” the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.

  17. Mueller finally gets his man.

Oh wait, never mind, it has at nothing to do with Trump.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/california-fake-id-salesman-who-helped-mueller-investigate-russians-gets-six-months-in-jail/ar-BBObBzm

“Richard Pinedo, a California computer whiz caught by the special counsel’s office selling fake online identities to Russians, was sentenced to six months in prison and six months probation Wednesday by a federal judge in Washington.

Pinedo is one of the more unusual and relatively unknown defendants caught in special counsel Robert Mueller’s court actions so far.

In memos sent to a federal judge before his sentencing, Pinedo’s defense team and prosecutors capture just how far-reaching the high-profile special counsel investigation into the 2016 election has been.

Pinedo ran a website that sold dummy bank accounts to eBay users having trouble with the online transaction service PayPal. His service allowed people online to breeze through PayPal’s financial verification steps.

He pleaded guilty to one count of identity fraud during a confidential court hearing in DC federal court on February 12. His case was made public four days later, when the Justice Department announced its indictment of 13 Russians and three companies for running an online election propaganda effort.”
    ————————

“The prosecutors describe Pinedo’s crime as “identity fraud on a large scale, committed remotely through the ease of the internet, with real-life damage inflicted on scores of innocent victims,” according to their memo to the judge. Since they wrote to the judge in late September, Friedrich has asked for clarification on the number of victims.

Court staff calculated a recommended sentence of 12 to 18 months in prison for Pinedo, but given the prosecutors’ leniency in their argument before his sentencing, it was unlikely he’d serve that much time. Pinedo was also sentenced to 24 months of supervised release.”

“Trumpism is winning, and that’s terrifying”

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/08/opinions/brett-kavanaugh-victory-for-trumpism-dantonio/index.html

“To many, Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the US Supreme Court is not just a victory for President Donald Trump, but for Trumpism at large. And it is this fact that unsettles so much of the nation.

Trump’s presidency is marked not by political ideology but by personality. As former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, “We the people” has been replaced by “me the president.” This Trumpian way of operating values winning over decency and power over unity. It is also a force that has proven to be both effective and infectious, and its malevolence is terrifying.”
    —————————

    😭

I don’t know about you, but I’m amused, which I guess would be obvious reaction for someone as malevolent and terrifying as myself. 🙂

This is why CNN never allows comments. They can’t take the mocking laughter and ridicule that inevitably follows such drivel.

  20. This is curious:

    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/geneveith/2018/10/the-article-that-exposes-grievance-studies/

    ___________________________________

You may have read about the researchers who sent fake papers on topics such as “the rape culture at dog parks” to academic journals, which published many of them. The purpose was to test the credulity and the scholarly rigor of the “critical constructivism” that prevails on universities today. That is, the postmodernist conviction that there is no objective truth, just power relationships that oppress women, LGBTs, racial minorities, etc. The researchers call the classes, majors, and scholarship in this vein “grievance studies” and demonstrate just how bogus it is.

I commend to you the article about their hoax papers that the researchers published telling about their prank and the conclusions they were able to draw from it.

They tell about the various studies that they made up. For a link to each of the 20 papers and the journal reactions, including their peer review reports, go here.

As regards the “dog park” study, the title was “Human Reactions to Rape Culture and Queer Performativity in Urban Dog Parks in Portland, Oregon.”

Thesis: That dog parks are rape-condoning spaces and a place of rampant canine rape culture and systemic oppression against “the oppressed dog” through which human attitudes to both problems can be measured. This provides insight into training men out of the sexual violence and bigotry to which they are prone.

The method was supposedly to observe the behaviors of dogs in dog parks, documenting cases of “non-consensual” sex among the animals and noting “queer” behavior, as when dogs mount. . . well, you know.

Here is one of the peer review reports:

“This is a wonderful paper – incredibly innovative, rich in analysis, and extremely well-written and organized given the incredibly diverse literature sets and theoretical questions brought into conversation. The author’s development of the focus and contributions of the paper is particularly impressive. The fieldwork executed contributes immensely to the paper’s contribution as an innovative and valuable piece of scholarship that will engage readers from a broad cross-section of disciplines and theoretical formations. I believe this intellectually and empirically exciting paper must be published and congratulate the author on the research done and the writing.” -Reviewer 1, Gender, Place, and Culture

The article was published by the journal Gender, Place, and Culture, which gave it an award. …
