@ 7:38 Flake advocated what Dear Leader wanted to advocate after he heard Ford’s testimony. His staff had to talk Trump out of becoming a “traitor”. Keeping a consistent cult ideology can be really hard when Dear Leader is so mercurial.
Unfortunately, the Democrats will not be happy with giving this one more week for an “FBI investigation.” It’s almost assuredly not going to discover anything new, although it will give more time for more charges to come forth. At the end of the week, there will be demands for more time and more investigations. If that happens, it’s pretty much over for Kavanaugh. And even if the vote is held then (which is a necessity or the GOP might as well start over with a new nominee) and he’s approved, the Democrats will still say it was all “rushed” and Kavanaugh is surely guilty.
So while it sounds reasonable to do more investigation after the uproar surrounding Thursday’s conflicting testimony, it’s probably not going to bring any more clarity with regard to what happened at a teen party nearly 40 years ago.
The extra week of investigation is a compromise that really satisfies neither side in this, it mostly prolongs the country’s misery. 😦

Here are a few thoughts:
1. The Dems and the liberals in the media have handled the Kavanaugh matter very dishonestly.
2. Had I been Flake, I would simply have voted to confirm without a request for an FBI investigation.
3. That said, there is no certainty that Kavanaugh could have obtained 50 votes if the final vote had been yesterday.
4. In a week, we can see what the FBI finds.
A. If it is largely exculpatory, McConnell can call for a vote and get his 50 votes.
B. If the FBI finds evidence to support Ford’s charges, Trump can pull the nomination and nominate Amy Coney Barrett or someone else more likely to reverse Roe than Kavanaugh.
5. McConnell can ram the vote through before the new Senate is seated in January. He held Scalia’s seat open for almost a year to open the door for Gorsuch. He is not consistently conservative, but he is effective.
6. This week of FBI investigation will make it more difficult for the Dems to campaign on this issue. In fact I think the Kavanaugh matter has helped the Rs. The Dems and the press have behaved badly and for once Trump has been relatively rational and dignified.

I am willing to agree that they may not have had the same meaning, but this sticks out to me (if I am wrong on the wording of this quote, please correct me): He wrote to his friend, “Have you boofed?” But it seems to me that if he really was referring to “farting” (I hate that word), he would have written, “Did you boof?” (“Have you farted” would make no sense. Everyone does.)
Please don’t read anything into my various questions and comments about where I stand on the matter. I have also made comments to those who are against Kavanaugh which cause them to think I am on his side. Playing “devil’s advocate” (wish there was another term for that), trying to get each side to consider some pertinent points from the other side, gets me assumed to be obviously on the “other side”. But I think we need to consider perspectives that make us uncomfortable, that we would rather not see.
Although right now, I am not taking a side publicly (trying to avoid transgressing the 9th commandment), my tendency would be to believe Judge Kavanaugh.

Its standard practise that anyone accused of a sexual crime not have contact with children as a coach, teacher, etc. Given the nature of the claims, I don’t think this is necessary but I don’t think I would like my 20 year old daughter to hang out with Kavanugh when he’s drunk. But he’s good to coach girl’s basketball, in my opinion. However, if I faced similar accusations I would be suspended with pay and told not to coach girl’s volleyball.
As I’ve said before, its not the accusations that should dismiss him but his behaviour since. He lies even when its not necessary — never blacked out? devil’s triangle? Trump conducted an extensive search? His temperament is not judicial. He yells, belittles, interrupts and is emotionally unstable. He’s too partisan much more than Gorsuch or Garland. And he has a huge sense of entitlement.

Unfortunately, the Democrats will not be happy with giving this one more week for an “FBI investigation.” It’s almost assuredly not going to discover anything new, although it will give more time for more charges to come forth. At the end of the week, there will be demands for more time and more investigations. If that happens, it’s pretty much over for Kavanaugh. And even if the vote is held then (which is a necessity or the GOP might as well start over with a new nominee) and he’s approved, the Democrats will still say it was all “rushed” and Kavanaugh is surely guilty.
So while it sounds reasonable to do more investigation after the uproar surrounding Thursday’s conflicting testimony, it’s probably not going to bring any more clarity with regard to what happened at a teen party nearly 40 years ago.
The extra week of investigation is a compromise that really satisfies neither side in this, it mostly prolongs the country’s misery. 😦

Even as Trump’s outrageous sexual assault confession made it socially unacceptable to be a sexual predator, his uneducated rantings on trade combined with his tariffs are making it intellectually unacceptable to be a protectionist.

Here are a few thoughts:
1. The Dems and the liberals in the media have handled the Kavanaugh matter very dishonestly.
2. Had I been Flake, I would simply have voted to confirm without a request for an FBI investigation.
3. That said, there is no certainty that Kavanaugh could have obtained 50 votes if the final vote had been yesterday.
4. In a week, we can see what the FBI finds.
A. If it is largely exculpatory, McConnell can call for a vote and get his 50 votes.
B. If the FBI finds evidence to support Ford’s charges, Trump can pull the nomination and nominate Amy Coney Barrett or someone else more likely to reverse Roe than Kavanaugh.
5. McConnell can ram the vote through before the new Senate is seated in January. He held Scalia’s seat open for almost a year to open the door for Gorsuch. He is not consistently conservative, but he is effective.
6. This week of FBI investigation will make it more difficult for the Dems to campaign on this issue. In fact I think the Kavanaugh matter has helped the Rs. The Dems and the press have behaved badly and for once Trump has been relatively rational and dignified.

This was predicted here before Trump took office. People and countries can “bribe” the infantile and insecure Trump with flattery. Omarosa kept her job in the White House while doing nothing, sowing discord and secretly taping everyone because “she always said nice things” about Trump. Kim has caused all US joint military exercises in North Asia to be suspended because he flattered and then “wrote beautiful letters” to our Child President.

By chipping away at the alternative which offends their fine sensibilities, people like Ricky and Flake (and many others) will eventually hand the country over to the Marxist wing of the Democrat party. For awhile I considered that very disturbing, but I have come to a place of deep peace with it now. As noxious as it is, most likely Marxism will not be all bad all the time for everyone….maybe. And eventually, like Capitalism, it will fall under the weight of its own intrinsic errors and arrogance, for God has not established these ideologies; they are the vain imaginings of man. For Christians in particular, Marxism may offer a chance to truly suffer for the faith if we manage to avoid becoming complicit in the rebellion that is sure to follow.

Kizzie, the terminologies that are used today and widely known today because of the internet, were not that uniform 35 years ago. If you want to assume Kavanaugh is lying or ignorant that’s your prerogative. It is likely that those words meant exactly what he said when used 35 years ago.

I really did not think that even The Cult would try to defend Trump’s statement that he and Kim “fell in love” after Kim sent him flattering letters.
However, I should have known better. Trumpism is truly a personality cult not a political movement or a set of principles or beliefs.
There is literally nothing that Trump can say or do that the Trumpkins will not defend or excuse. It is sort of sad, but sort of funny.

The limited FBI investigation may “clear” Kavanaugh though not to the satisfaction of the Dems. That will be a good thing though the Dems will be angry at the FBI.
This is a very possible preview of The Mueller Report which may “clear” Trump by finding that he moronically framed himself but is innocent of treason. It is going to be hilarious to watch the Dems attack the “Republican” Mueller while Trump decrees that all of The Cult must praise Mueller in terms previously reserved for Kim of North Korea.

Debra – It may be wrong, but what I have read has said that the terms were understood the same way in the 80s as they are now.
I am willing to agree that they may not have had the same meaning, but this sticks out to me (if I am wrong on the wording of this quote, please correct me): He wrote to his friend, “Have you boofed?” But it seems to me that if he really was referring to “farting” (I hate that word), he would have written, “Did you boof?” (“Have you farted” would make no sense. Everyone does.)
Please don’t read anything into my various questions and comments about where I stand on the matter. I have also made comments to those who are against Kavanaugh which cause them to think I am on his side. Playing “devil’s advocate” (wish there was another term for that), trying to get each side to consider some pertinent points from the other side, gets me assumed to be obviously on the “other side”. But I think we need to consider perspectives that make us uncomfortable, that we would rather not see.
Although right now, I am not taking a side publicly (trying to avoid transgressing the 9th commandment), my tendency would be to believe Judge Kavanaugh.

A bit much but not evil. Its standard practise that anyone accused of a sexual crime not have contact with children as a coach, teacher, etc. Given the nature of the claims, I don’t think this is necessary but I don’t think I would like my 20 year old daughter to hang out with Kavanugh when he’s drunk. But he’s good to coach girl’s basketball, in my opinion. However, if I faced similar accusations I would be suspended with pay and told not to coach girl’s volleyball.
As I’ve said before, its not the accusations that should dismiss him but his behaviour since. He lies even when its not necessary — never blacked out? devil’s triangle? Trump conducted an extensive search? His temperament is not judicial. He yells, belittles, interrupts and is emotionally unstable. He’s too partisan much more than Gorsuch or Garland. And he has a huge sense of entitlement.
Compare his behaviour to Garland.

If you want to parse those terms go ahead, but I’m not taking that journey with you. I lived through the vulgarities of the late 70s as a teenager. Once was more than enough. :–)
