A House resolution sets Friday as the deadline for the Justice Department to come clean on the beginning of its investigation into the Trump campaign. We’ll find out if the FBI has been lying to the public.
That is, if the department complies. It has flouted so many subpoenas, and played so many games with redactions and deadlines, that the entire House GOP united last week to vote for the resolution demanding submission to Congress’s requests for documents. “House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes is calling for public hearings for 15 people linked to anti-Trump opposition research efforts during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In a letter obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation, Nunes on Thursday called on House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy to hold the hearings as part of an investigation into possible government surveillance abuses.
Most of the people referred by Nunes have links to Fusion GPS, a Washington, D.C.-based outfit that commissioned the infamous Steele dossier.
Nunes wants public hearings for Fusion GPS co-founders Glenn Simpson, Tom Catan and Peter Fritsch as well as Nellie Ohr, a former Fusion GPS associate who worked on the firm’s investigation into Trump’s possible ties to Russia.
Ohr is the wife of Bruce Ohr, a Department of Justice (DOJ) official who met before and after the 2016 election with Glenn Simpson and Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the dossier. Bruce Ohr was demoted from a top DOJ position after the discovery of his links to Fusion GPS.
Neil King, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, is also included on Nunes’s list. He joined Fusion GPS after leaving the Journal in December 2016. His wife is Shailagh Murray, an aide to former Vice President Joe Biden.
Nunes is also calling for testimony from two other Fusion GPS associates, Edward Baumgartner and Rinat Akhmetshin. Both worked with Fusion GPS on a project aimed at undermining the Magnitsky Act, a sanctions law vehemently opposed by the Kremlin. Some of Fusion GPS’s research for the project ended up in the hands of Russian general prosecutor Yuri Chaika.
Akhmetshin, a former Soviet military officer, also has the distinction of being a member of the Russian delegation that met with Trump campaign officials in Trump Tower in June 2016. Akhmetshin has testified before the House Intelligence Committee as well as a grand jury impaneled by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
Akhmetshin’s link to both Fusion GPS and the Trump Tower meeting marks one of the stranger wrinkles in the Trump-Russia saga. He attended the Trump Tower meeting as part of the same anti-Magnitsky Act project that Fusion GPS was working on. The link has generated speculation that Akhmetshin provided information that ended up in the Steele dossier. But both Akhmetshin and Fusion GPS’s Glenn Simpson have claimed that Simpson was unaware of that meeting until it was reported last July.
Akhmetshin has also denied the Democrat-backed allegation that collusion occurred during the Trump Tower meeting.
Also on Nunes’s list are Marc Elias and Michael Sussmann, attorneys for Perkins Coie, the law firm that hired Fusion GPS. Perkins Coie served as general counsel to both the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee.
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook was Elias’s point of contact for the dossier project. Nunes is also calling for Mook’s public testimony.
Sidney Blumenthal and Cody Shearer, two longtime Clinton insiders, are also on the list. During the campaign, they shopped around an anti-Trump report to journalists and government officials that closely mirrored the Steele dossier. Blumenthal provided the so-called Shearer memo to his longtime friend, Jonathan Winer, who then served as the Department of State’s (DOS) special envoy to Libya. Winer passed the document to Steele, whom he has known since 2009. Steele in turn gave the Shearer report to the FBI.”

I saw something this morning I have never seen before but have sometimes thought about. I have seen American flags inside the church and outside the church, both alone and alongside a Christian flag. When it’s both, they are always flown on the same level or if on the same pole the American flag is on top. This morning I saw both flags flown on the same pole, but the Christian flag was on top. And as if to emphasize the statement, a few feet away was a second pole with the same flags flown identically. This was not in or near church grounds. I approve the sentiment, but I thought it was curious since this is a very pro military area. Has anyone else seen flags flown that way?

It is probably more important that the Republicans retain control of the Senate than the House since Trump or Pence may have the chance to appoint a successor to Ginsburg or Thomas in the next 2 1/2 years.
Republicans are currently favored in the Senate as only a third of the seats are up for election and several of those are Democrat incumbents in red states.

Keep in mind, no nominee has been named yet, and won’t be until Monday, but it doesn’t matter; who it is will not matter, they freak out and oppose them.
We’ve been down this road before, and we’ll hopefully be down this road again (c’mon, Darth Vader Ginsberg, retirement is calling) – liberals whine and cry about how this or that nominee is “extreme” and therefore they can’t be confirmed. When your whole world is an angry mob worked up into a frenzy to the point that they’re shouting at government officials in public places, being a radical leftist seems normal.
When you celebrate an angry leftist “teacher” wearing a “Your Founding Fathers Owned Slaves” t-shirt on television because she read prepared talking points to the head of the Environmental Protection Agency in a restaurant while her husband filmed her, you aren’t associating or identifying with normal Americans. Forgive me if I have difficulty taking your political philosophy seriously if you willingly use your child as a political prop.
However, even though the Democratic Party is being bought out by socialists, they do still have a say in our government (at least for now). As such, and since you’re going to hear it anyway, I thought I’d give you a heads up on what you can expect to hear from these aspiring mini-Mussolinis after a nominee is named.”

“Astrof had driven to the Nesconset, N.Y., campaign office of U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, and become “irate with a campaign worker” and threatened to kill him and Trump supporters, police said.
Authorities said that after making the threats, Astrof backed his car up in an “aggressive manner,” nearly striking the worker before driving home.
. . . . Zeldin identified the campaign worker as Donato Panico, a deli owner who helped feed first responders after the attacks of 9/11 and was given an American flag flown near ground zero as thanks.
The congressman, who is running for re-election in New York’s 1st Congressional District, presented the flag to President Trump at Panico’s request.
Zeldin notes that “In the US, political scores are settled at the ballot box, not by trying to kill your political opponents.”

The Democrats’ rhetoric is a classic tactic to continue to move the goal posts and basically gerrymander favorability for one side.”

It is probably more important that the Republicans retain control of the Senate than the House since Trump or Pence may have the chance to appoint a successor to Ginsburg or Thomas in the next 2 1/2 years.
