Prayer Requests 5-16-18

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget Ajisuun and The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 97

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
    let the distant shores rejoice.
Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Fire goes before him
    and consumes his foes on every side.
His lightning lights up the world;
    the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all peoples see his glory.

All who worship images are put to shame,
    those who boast in idols—
    worship him, all you gods!

Zion hears and rejoices
    and the villages of Judah are glad
    because of your judgments, Lord.
For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above all gods.
10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
    for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
    and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 Light shines on the righteous
    and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
    and praise his holy name.

  1. I still haven’t heard from my own Baby Girl. We have been praying for her for 10 or so years. I haven’t noticed any change in her. When do I just give up? I mourn for what our relationship could have been, yet I look back and realize that she has had me on pins and needles for years. Having her around isn’t relaxing. I always feel like I have to be on high alert to manage her behaviour.

  2. Kim – As Kare said, the best thing – and probably the only thing – you can do right now is to entrust her into God’s hands. But I know, from my own experience, that that is not as easily done as it sounds. (And I sometimes beat myself up about that. I believe in God’s love and power, so why can’t I truly leave my daughters in His hands and stop worrying? But I think the more I do it, the less I actually worry.)

    I’m curious as to what you mean by “to manage her behavior”.

  3. That is difficult, Kim. You have lots of company. Lots of others have been praying for spouses, siblings, parents etc. for many, many more years. When do we give up? I tell the Lord I will give up when He gives me peace to give up. Otherwise, why should I? I also have heard stories of those who prayed for decades before seeing the answer to their prayers. Others probably never saw the answer until eternity.

    There is a reason it tells us in the bible to never weary of doing good. It is wearying.

  4. Speaking of wearying: I have a godson, Nick, whom I have been praying for years. He had a poor upbringing, but some good people in his life. I do not have much contact with him and never have after toddlerhood. He is on fb and posts once in awhile. He has severe diabetes and does not take care of it well. His posts are full of depression and self-pity. Others try to be helpful, but he will not turn from what is holding him down. Please pray for him and for wisdom for those who can speak into his life.

  5. Wearying is a good word for it, Kathaleena.

    This fall it will have been eleven years since Nightingale moved out, and moved in with X. She left a believer, and came home an atheist. She has taught her son that God does not exist. (As he says it, “God is fake!”) And then there’s Chickadee and her situation. My heart aches for all three of them.

    But we cannot give up. We need to believe that God is working in their hearts and lives even when we see no evidence of it.

  6. Please pray for Debbie, Hubby’s younger cousin who recently lost her husband unexpectedly. (He was only 50, and I think he had a heart attack.) She is now trying to navigate all the confusing things we must do when our husbands die, and is feeling overwhelmed. I’ve reached out to her through Facebook messages, and she seems grateful for that. I am glad to be of whatever help I can be.

    I don’t know if she is a believer. I know her family was Catholic, and her sister is a nun.

  7. Also, Debbie did not work outside the home, and will have to find some kind of employment. (She used to groom dogs at home.) She mentioned something about her husband having three life insurance policies, so hopefully she’ll be okay for a while.

    (Why do some people have more than one life insurance policy, rather than having one for a higher amount?)
