    It was very foggy this morning and we have thick cloud cover which is to clear up later they say…we are hoping the predictions for moisture this week shall come to pass…it is getting dry out there….hoping it stops here then heads south toward rkessler…. 🌧
    Having coffee with second daughter today…tomorrow will hang out with some friends at the lake…Mother’s Day can be a trying day for many Moms.

  7. Good Morning Everyone. Have you missed me this week? I learned several important things this week. Let’s start with Wednesday when I was in GRI Technology Class (Graduate Institute of Real Estate–or something)
    FACEBOOK IS LISTENING. On your phone go into your settings, go to Facebook, go to microphone and turn it off.
    GOOGLE is also listening. I haven’t quite figured that out.
    IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTER WITH A CAMERA–put something over the camera so that people cannot hack into your computer and watch you.
    THURSDAY: There is still a part of me that can be judgemental. We passed out food to those in need in Pensacola. There were some nice cars that drove through. My first thought was, “If you are driving a car like that you must not be in too much need”. ZING! There was a time in 2009 and 2010 that I was driving a fairly nice SUV and was living in a really nice house. I was paying $900 for the house and struggling to pay for the SUV. Once, I really needed some help, but because I wasn’t past due on all my bills I didn’t qualify for any. I quickly adjusted my thinking. I also remember that during that time, I yelled at BG for taking the toilet paper I had scraped coins together to buy, and “rolling” the inside of the house when she had friends spend the night. The “hot commodity” as we were passing out food boxes? Toilet paper. Don’t ever take it for granted.
    FRIDAY: I am still judgemental. I am most judgemental with ME. The words that play in my head are not kind. I don’t allow myself to dream. I don’t set goals because I am afraid of failure.

    Oh, and I forgot about Tuesday. I had to contact one of our agents in our referral group and tell her that I had instructed the market center admin to return her license to the State of Florida. I had already gone in and put her Alabama license on inactive status. She had emailed all of leadership over last weekend some crazy, jumbled up diatribes. I had wanted to get rid of her when I put her in the referral company, but the acting leader has a fatal flaw—he is too kind and always looks for the best in people.
    I had tried to get in touch with her all day Monday but she wouldn’t return my call. I finally spoke with her Tuesday. Even at the time I was telling her she would no longer be with our company I could tell she wasn’t understanding what I was saying. She started to argue with me on a few points. I had to remain firm, telling her the decision had been made. THAT is when the real crazy began. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning she once again emailed the world a bunch of craziness. She texted craziness and she posted it on various websites. I awoke yesterday to a long rambling text about how what she did was none of my business. I refrained from responding that, “Yes, it is my business when you are acting under MY broker’s license. I wish I knew how to get in touch with some of her family. I really think she needs professional help. She is beyond anything I can help her with.

    SO….what did everyone else do this week? I am off to run market analysis on a portfolio of investment properties. It isn’t my client. He lives somewhere else. An agent asked for help on one of our FB groups and 3 of them are in my area, where I have access to the MLS. Usually I get $100-150 to do this. Today is free. I did get all the flower beds in my backyard finished. I may send photos. Mr P finally gave in and hired a lawn maintenance service. My front yard is starting to look really nice. It makes me smile to drive into my neighborhood—-That’s a long way from worrying about toilet paper—aren’t we all blessed?

  13. When the “Unbroken” film came out, it covered the first part of Louie’s story, mostly his growing up and war experiences. It stopped short of delving much into his conversion story that played out in his years following the war. So … This is something of a sequel they decided to do after some of those criticisms. Same producer, I probably need to try to do a story on it and still have his email (I made the mistake of calling him once and he read me the riot act about how busy he was!! Oy; friend in the film business told me later all producers are like that, they yell, it’s what they do).

    And I woke up to a long nit-picky email from fisherman’s son about changes he wants to make in the story (or simply more info he wants added). Not even a “thank you for the nice story,” just a launch into changes he wants to make. So I’ll be busy trying to do that this morning. Then I need to find an editor who’s doing the print edition and make sure changes are made there. Happy weekend. Everyone wants to rewrite your stories when it’s all online.

    Kim, sounds like a hard week on your end, sorry. I’ve had those and know the frustration.

    I did know about the microphone thing and also putting something on your computer camera (I have a sticker on mine at home). The microphone thing is creepy as I’d noticed before that I’d only talked to someone about something and it turned up on my FB ads. When you search for something online you expect it to follow you around a while, but this was something I’d literally only talked about when my phone no doubt was on me at the time.

  14. The book (“Unbroken”) of course spent a lot of time on the after-the-war story of Louie’s. So there was some criticism of the film on that basis, although there was a time factor to consider, who would sit through a 4-hour movie? The producer added some subtext to the ending credits to try to cover some of those bases, which helped. But I guess they figured it could use a sequel. I think the hope is that it will have a broader appeal than just to a niche Christian audience.

  15. I think it was Kim who mentioned CNN yesterday — I really miss the CNN (of old). Now they’ve gone heavy on the ‘commentary’ too. When it began, CNN was the go-to channel for live, breaking news. It’s still my main choice for that kind of event, they still do that well, but overall they started to slip into the Anderson Cooper commentary mode way too much around the time of the 2016 elections, I guess trying to keep pace with Fox and MSNBC.

    I used to like Fox a lot more, too, I don’t think I’ve watched much of any of the cable news shows in the past couple years. I’m really “over” all the commentary.

    Just. Give. Me. News.

    I need a break from all the talking heads.

In answer to Kim’s question about what everyone else did this week: I attended clinical, worked on clinical assignments, attended Bible study, practiced the organ at church, did household tasks, and tried to get a little of the rest and relaxation that I didn’t really get on my brief holiday.

I was aware of the story of the transport convoy that met a U-boat – it was made the background for one of the mysteries of the British TV series ‘Foyle’s War’, as the writer of the mystery series extensively researched the background for his mysteries, making it as factual as possible.

  18. Simple story fix turned into 2 hour ordeal when the photo gallery vanished and captions needed reworking as did headline. I thought it was Saturday, but I must have been mistaken.

  19. Husband is not back from the men’s prayer breakfast. He called while I was mowing so I called him back. Seems son left the breakfast and went to the school greenhouse. He walked into the fan and cut the bridge of his nose so they are at the ER because the teacher,also an EMT, suggested it would be a good idea. They are all busy with more significant issues so it will be a wait. I would have put sugar on it and then glue. They probably will too.

  20. I have been mostly working on the Website Creation Worshop this week. It has lots of modules with small bites of information with related practice assignments which will eventually lead to a live website for the business. This morning I have worked on brainstorming and discussion and purchase of some domain names. I am also doing the volunteer work for Christian Library International on inmate Bible study lesson reviews. I have had discussion with church folks about the media center and other things. I have done a few things with visiting son who goes back tomorrow. I have not done much at home since I am still at the office most of the time. I discuss the office duties with my brother who is working with what I would be doing except that I am working on the website. And of course, Miss Bosley gets her share of care ✔

  25. Although I thought the first few seasons were better than the after-war seasons when he was in MI5. (Or was it MI6?) IIRC, MI5 is akin to our FBI, and MI6 is akin to the CIA. I could be mistaken, though.

  27. Kizzie, Youngest and I both enjoyed watching episodes of Foyle’s War – borrowed from the library, since we didn’t get any TV channels. We also didn’t care very much for the seasons that came after the war (I actually haven’t watched the last two seasons) as the underlying theme of the series had been to capture a sense of what keeping law and order in a time of war was like. Once the war was over, the succeeding seasons seemed to have less emotional impact. I prefer British TV productions, as I enjoy watching the technique of English actors, almost all of whom were trained in theatre production, and are cast more for their acting ability and less for their ‘looks’.

  28. Busy day. House is somewhat clean. I have set the table for tomorrow. I have solid white plates now, so I treated myself to a new, patterned, table cloth and some pretty napkins. Mr. Opinionated found solid napkins with blue trim rather than the ones that match the table cloth. He was right, but it cracks me up sometimes what he has really strong opinions about. Now he is taunting me, asking if I want to wait until tomorrow for the rest of my Mother’s Day presents. YES!!!! I can wait!!! I no longer want to spoil events. I want to savor them.

  29. A quiet Sunday morning here. My cold is better. I happened to make a list of the things I ate last week that I shouldn’t have. Then I looked at the list and realized that I had probably lowered my resistance with all that sugar, hence the cold. That is not how I usually eat, but there was Bible study and an invitation to dinner and moms coming to school to talk about their home country, and one brought the richest brownies I have ever had, and even one boy had a birthday and treats at staff meeting. Any one thing would have been fine, but all that in one week did me in.

  33. Roscuro – I find many of the British shows I watch on PBS have a more natural look and feel to them. The actresses are not all beautiful. The houses often have cluttered counters and such.

    I noted to Nightingale that a character on a show I am currently watching (“Unforgotten” on Masterpiece Mystery) had a female character who wore make-up when she was out of the house, but it presented her without make-up while at home. Like in real life.

  34. Heard from an old friend of fisherman who wants to get in touch with him so I forwarded the email to his son.

    On a sad note, it was posted today on FB that a man very active in the community and a friend to many died yesterday following surgery for a malignant brain tumor, everyone is in shock.

    He married one of our copy editors who now works for the LA Times and they don’t live far from me, I’d run into him every now and then when I was walking the dogs.

    I got to know him some years ago when he was with the Sierra Club and active in port environmental issues. He and his wife were avid hikers (she often hikes up to the Hollywood sig for that wonderful view) and while he was liberal, he was ever contentious and always was kind and not argumentative with those who disagreed, at least from what I observed. He founded the ‘filmed in San Pedro and Wilmimgton’ FB page after we privately chatted and decided it would be a fun kind of local group page.

    First time I ran into him on a dog walk, I could tell he really liked dogs but said he couldn’t pet or even get too close to them because of an allergy.

    Very sad, he was widely respected and liked in our little port community.

  39. So far I have gotten two Mother’s Day greetings. One from my daughter in laws mother, who is Filipino and another from a Filipino friend of mine who is now back in the Philippines.

  41. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers here present.

    D2 and hubby are here. Also, our church is having is Spring cookout today with another church. It is made up of several young families. They are a church that came out from our group about ten years ago. Two young man were attending with us and felt led to start a work in a nearby city, so we sent them out with our blessings. It has grown from three couples with no children to six couples with lots of children. Yet they’ll all crowd into the living room at the farm house and then we’ll build a small bonfire to cook hot dogs. At least it will be a warm day for being outside.

  42. Happy Mother’s Day all. Our neighborhood parks and beaches will be crowded, cookouts are popular here on this holiday, too (although the city charges a pretty hefty fee now to use these areas). And today is starting out very overcast. It’s supposed to be cloudy most of the day, with highs expected in the mid-60s.

    We’re on the 2nd week of the 5th Commandment today in our sermons, if I remember right. Two weeks per commandment (although I believe the first one may have gotten 3 or even 4 weeks). The 2nd week’s sermon on each of the commandments has focused on practical applications.

  43. The sermon this morning wasn’t on mothers, as they just continued the series they have been doing. Instead, one of the women leaders in the church prayed for the mothers. She included all kinds of mothers, i.e. ones with grown children, adoptive, foster, single, those who were childless, but longed for children, and those who had taken on the mothering role in some way. In effect, the prayer encompassed all the women of the church, not just those who were biological mothers. I really appreciated that approach.

  46. Just got back from the wiener roast. It was fun. I took my “new” SLR camera and got lots of pictures of people visiting each other and children playing. Along with several pics of the flowers on the property. I’ll send some of them to AJ.

    D2 and her husband left and now the house is quiet. We’re expecting a call from D1 and her children. They’ll probably want to Skype, so I better hook up the camera and microphone. And look for our Skype log on info. That will be the hard part.

  48. Part way through this morning’s sermon I started counting every time ‘mom’ or ‘mother’ was said. I got to over 90 times! The sermon was a Mother’s Day sermon – I was surprised as usually we acknowledge mothers and then continue on with a ‘normal’ sermon. I did not enjoy this morning and I had/have a wonderful mom/stepmom, great children etc. I can’t imagine being a woman who longs for children, or had lost a child…

    I would have just turned off the alarm this morning and gone back to sleep except daughter had planned lunch in town after church. That was nice – so good to see her.

  49. Hi! I am almost always here, lurking in the background. My daughter, Yapa, graduates on Thursday. Homeschooling is done! Next week we leave on a celebratory trip to Scotland and Ireland for a few weeks.

  50. We carried Wesley to the airport at 6:30 a.m. and since we were near the office we just stayed there for the day. My life group teacher planned to be out today. We are going through Acts at church and the plan was to stick with that, but I just felt like I did not want to be there by myself today. I was thankful Wesley was home for a few days, but as usual, he spent half his time with friends in Chattanooga. I am thankful he has good friends, but we see so little of him. He starts his summer work tomorrow and just finished up the classes he teaches this past week so he had no choice about his quick trip. He gave me a very nice card, and he gave a joint gift for Art and me since he missed Art’s birthday.

  51. I am grateful for no “Mother’s Day sermons,” been through those and done that/them, thank you.

    Was talking to a dog park acquaintance, a Canadian native who worked for years as an RN at a celebrity-heavy hospital before retiring at age 75 or something like that (she’s in her early 80s now, still plays tennis). She was raised Catholic but clearly is not a believer as of now … Anyway, she mentioned that there were probably a lot of people at church today because of “Mother’s Day,” so I just said well, we’re continuing through a sermon series on the 10 Commandments and today we were on #6, Though shalt not kill/murder.

    “Well, that would be for the people who have guns!” she said.

    “Not really,” I responded. “Jesus says that anyone who is angry is guilty so we’re all pretty much guilty of that one.”

    She changed the subject. 🙂

    Her dog, a young husky was stalking a squirrel in one of the dog park trees — the critter had even dared to venture down the trunk a ways, “wagging” its tail, taunting the dogs.
