As I was reading Bret Stephens’ article, I had a thought: If Clinton had done all this, there would not be a small group of NeverClinton Liberals opposing her and standing up for truth, honesty, intelligence, and the rule of law. There is still that tiny difference between the two parties.

When a Deputy FBI Director’s wife received a $700,000 campaign contribution from a surrogate fund raiser for Hillary, it would seem to be insane to actually involve yourself directly into the management of that investigation, especially when investigations are almost always conducted by field offices and not out of the FBI Headquarters.
To be a good federal investigator, it doesn’t matter if you are a Dem or Republican if your integrity is not compromised. So far. it appears everyone named in the Hillary investigation was absent of any integrity. When Comey testified before Congress, he said he had made the decision to exonerate Hillary after her interview, and that he had not discussed it with anyone prior to delivering his decision not to recommend prosecution. There were at least two lies there, and the text messages between Strzok and Page prove them both. The exoneration memo was written over a month before Hillary was even interviewed, and Strzok contributed to it by changing the language (by removing Obama’s name re. an email and also changing “Gross Negligence” to “Extremely Careless”). Both those lies constitute a felony.

We know this because Clinton pretty much did do all of these things and worse—for many years. If Clinton were president there would be no special counsel because Comey wouldn’t have leaked classified material giving her enemies political cover so they could appoint one.
Hillary escaped investigation and prosecution and was never held accountable for many egregious behaviors. But in the end, Democratic voters demonstrated that corruption does matter. Although they aren’t called ‘never-Hillarys’, there is a substantial segment of Democratic voters who voted for Trump or for a third party because they would not support Hillary’s corruption. Many of these were Sanders supporters who keenly felt the sting of betrayal. This segment of voter still has not been wooed back into the Democratic fold. That’s one reason the outcome of midterms and 2020 is still so much in doubt.
One of the disheartening things about the last couple of years is that Trump has intimidated a number of people whom I used to respect and each of these men wimped out and bowed the knee. Cruz, Romney, Pence, Ryan and others fall into this category.
Comey does not wimp out!
All should appreciate the FBI speaking up. I wish more of our leaders would. But take heart: American history shows that, in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field, so long as good people stand up. Not a lot of schools or streets named for Joe McCarthy.
