To follow up to Bob’s point last night, my first three posts yesterday were not primarily about politics. They were about the duty of Christian parents and church leaders to maintain their credibility on moral issues.
The young are being pushed every day to engage in fornication, pornography, perversion and to mutilate themselves. They are being told to give wrong-gender hormones to their young children. They need to be able to respect the advice given on moral issues by Christian parents and church leaders.
Those parents and leaders ruin their credibility when they defend and/or excuse outrageously immoral conduct and language from sports heroes, entertainers, and/or political candidates.
Tucked in the latest David Brooks column are statistics that support Charles Murray’s latest conclusion. People will want to discuss the statistics, but no one will really want to understand the underlying causes.
Interesting chart Ricky. It appears that, except for China and Japan, we owe it to ourselves.
It also appears that we reduce the debt, as a percentage of GDP during Republican years and increase them, mostly in Carter and Obama.
Obama doubled the debt and we have nothing to show for it.
It would seem that we should need no infrastructure repair.
Where did the money go?
Ricky – I have a question for you, since you are a lawyer (although I realize there are different areas of law, & not every lawyer knows every area). I am hesitant to ask this, or even think about it, because I already believe too many people are too “sue happy”, but I was wondering. . .
The doctors have determined that Hubby’s stroke was caused by a clot breaking off from another clot in his right leg. While at the first hospital (for the blood in his urine), they noticed that his left leg is larger than his right. They did an ultrasound on it, looking for clots. But they did not do an ultrasound on his right leg, which actually did have the clot that caused the stroke.
Is this something that would be considered some kind of malpractice, worth suing over? Or was it really no one’s fault because they didn’t think there was a reason to ultrasound the right leg, too?
We have already realized that Hubby will most probably not be going back to the job he had, which, while only somewhat physically demanding, involved long hours & not enough sleep. He probably will not find a job as well-paying.
Kizzie, You need to speak to a reputable plaintiff’s lawyer or personal injury lawyer who practices in your state. To find such a person, I would seek a referral from other lawyers, accountants, bankers and/or real estate agents. You are looking for someone who does medical malpractice work. It may take a few calls, but there should be someone good in your area. Let me know if you get stuck.

Today’s reading touches on a major grievance I have had with Christians in the political social media. I didn’t have a chance to read Ricky’s posts from yesterday, but this may be applicable. FYI:
Utmost Responses September 15
The September 15 post touches on two important points of the Christian life entered around keeping our hearts pure in honesty before God.
Paragraph one deals with our need to keep our hearts “up to date” in purity before God. It recalls to mind, for me, Luke 12:3, that scary verse that reminds us:
“What you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.”
I shudder to think every stupid, mean-spirited, ugly idea that has crossed my mind about someone will someday be heard by everyone–and the sinfulness of my heart will be revealed for all to judge. For that reason, when a non-God pleasing thought crosses my mind and I recognize it, I stop right then and ask God to forgive me.
It’s a discipline of the mind, and we’ve been covering that lately in Utmost, anyway. 🙂
The second paragraph is even more pertinent to our day in time when “the end seems to justify the means,” particularly in social media.
Shredding someone for personal or political gain is sin. Gossip is sin. We are not allowed to hate anyone in our hearts or our actions; that means we cannot devise clever schemes even to reveal the truth of their positions. Nothing “crafty” or “gottacha” is justified, as James 1:26 explains.
“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.”
But, what do you do then if someone is ripe for a zinger and maybe even deserves it?
Go back to paragraph one for a review if you’re tempted and then pray. I like to pray that truth will be revealed, and then leave everything else to the Holy Spirit. Let’s let Him be the convictor, and put our trust in God to do whatever He is going to do in a given situation.
Michelle, The bible isn’t clear on that subject. Jesus said,
Matthew 12:36
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
And Paul said,
Romans 14:12
So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
However: Hebrews 8:12 says, concerning the covenant with Israel, “their sins and iniquities I will remember no more.”
My personal belief is that all confessed and forgiven sins aree forgotten sins. But ain’t nothing free. Every sin costs something. I can’t tell you what, but sin doesn’t come free.
Michelle, good comment. I also think it’s possible to pray that truth be revealed, and then reveal it through conversation. I’m always reminded of Ephesians 4:15 “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ”. Love required. Wisdom required. Growing up is not optional, or painless. :–)

Those whom God forgives are forgiven indeed. He does not actually forget what we have done, but He no longer holds our wickedness against us when we trust in Christ. Through the blood of Christ, He sees us as righteous and acceptable in His sight, and He will not take this status from us. We find it hard not to hold the sins of others against them, but the Lord readily and easily refuses to hold our sins against us if we are in Christ.

Kizzie, it doesn’t sound (from what you say) that there was good reason to suspect a blood clot in the other leg, so unless there is something else that should have told them, I don’t see how it could be malpractice. We don’t really want doctors to order every test possible, just the ones that are reasonably likely, in my opinion.
Saw where Kirsten Powers tweeted about being ‘beyond blessed’ during a visit w/ Fr. Richard Rohr in Santa Fe. I loved her testimony of coming to faith a few years ago, but sounds like she’s moving in a more liberal (and possibly Roman Catholic?) faith direction since the last election. Last I knew she was w/Keller’s church in NYC (as was Ann Coulter at one time I believe?).
Kizzie, it sounds like they did the ultrasound on the leg that was symptomatic. In our facility, we don’t do diagnostic procedures on limbs that are not symptomatic. I would be curious to know what his D-Dimer was. Although, they probably would not have considered that value reliable, due to the known prostate cancer, which can skew results.
Post #2 I see not much has changed while I’m away. You’re still posting so called news from anonymous cowards who won’t put their name on their lies. So typical, of you and them. Meanwhile Trump keeps getting things done, unlike the Republican controlled Congress.
