There is no Butler Reunion tomorrow.
This is the first time ever that there was no Butler Reunion.
As a girl, Elvera always liked the Butler Reunion more than Christmas because she always got a new dress.
She and Pololy used to drive down to Greenwood from Annandale, Va. Just to attnend the Butler Reunion.

But the guys who arranged the Butler Reunion were getting old.
And the young folks didn’t care.
    So? No Butler Reunion tomorrow.

Her mother’s family were the Butlers. Elvera lost her mother in 1941, but her father insisted that she keep family ties.
    No longer.

  3. Sad to see it end. Our family reunion has continued for one week every three years since about a960, when the six brothers and one sister said, “without mom and dad, we are going to need to work to keep connections”. All that is left of that group is my dad. But the children and grandchildren and great grandchildren are still going strong. Not all of the families are represented but the core group continues.

  4. πŸ™‚ My family is all back in town.

πŸ™‚ 😦 They can be a rowdy bunch and I had to reprimand the female Adorables last night.

😦 They all apologized, once their mothers got a hold of them.

πŸ™‚ We hope to have a family portrait taken tomorrow– 😦 Because I don’t know when we’ll all be together again.

😦 Figuring out what to wear is always a challenge.

πŸ™‚ 😦 I have to buy a new car today.

    😦 I also need a new phone.

😦 My computer is not happy but I’m ignoring it.

πŸ™‚ My daughter is DELIGHTED to go shopping for the above.

😦 She also wants to get a kitten for my HUSBAND.

Maybe today should have been a prayer request?

    😦 Poor sleeping continues. 😦

  5. Michelle, it may be too late to make this suggestion, but when my in-laws celebrated their 60th, they chose the colors for the family photo so we would all be coordinated. They chose yellow and blue (the colors of the Swedish flag). I don’t own a lot of blue and had a hard time getting the right shade, but I managed. One of our daughters wore both blue and yellow, and it’s a good thing she did because yellow isn’t that common a clothing color and other than her, my mother-in-law in yellow and white was the only one wearing yellow. But when I compare the results with the photo of my own sprawling family taken a year or two before, some color coordination does look better. (My family also made the mistake of not making plans ahead of time as to when to take the photo, so some of the grandchildren had left just before one of my brothers arrived, so we took the photo when all seven of my generation, and spouses, were together, but we missed a few of the grandchildren since we hadn’t made a set time. We would have missed a few of them anyway, since my California niece came, but none of her four brothers or their families.)

  6. Husband expects to get home today. May be in Spokane as we speak. The delivery place for this load is not going to be open until Monday but the office said to just bring the truck to them and they would have a local deliver it on Monday, so he can come home. Sadly, as we are out of milk, bread, soap, fruit, etc, he will have to make a shopping stop. But then, he likes shopping and providing for the family so that is a good thing.

  7. Sounds like Bill was busy about the Lord’s work. That is an important thing, bringing order to communications, sounds like something God would do. May his family and friends be blessed through having known him and their eyes opened to the needs around them where God is asking them to serve.

  8. I believe the ice cream was removed from his truck. I don’t know who would do such a thing. But I did not get any of it. Or the fresh peaches from Georgia. Or the fresh cherries from Washington. Or even the pepsi.

  9. 😦 Young teen daughter of one of my daughter’s friends has been cutting and suicidal. No name, but a request for prayers. They do not know the Lord.

πŸ™‚ Newest granddaughter still hanging out in the womb, which is where we want her at this point.

πŸ™‚ Youngest daughter did have half marathon to raise money for clean water for others. She has never done anything like this and is not athletic. She finished and raised some good money.

πŸ™‚ Got a chance to visit with my brother and his wife. They live in the Philippines and haven’t been home for a couple of years. Didn’t have much chance to really talk, but that is par for the course. I am afraid when my mom dies there will be very little communication with siblings. After 45 years I am going to be content with what is.

😦 Found out recently that a former bible study partner has three different types of cancer and not long to live. He still gets around and has a fantastic attitude. Knowing the Lord makes a big difference.

  10. Actually, my cousin just bought a new Suburu Forester(?), the SUV — Consumer Reports ranked it No. 1 for ‘older’ drivers, not that we’re old yet, but … My cousin is a few years older than I am so she was happy when I sent her that link (after she’d already decided that was what she was going to buy). Only disappointment was the color (not sure why she couldn’t have ordered a different color since she bought new), silver.

  11. We bought a used 2002 Forester in 2009 and it’s still a good reliable car today with 200K+ miles. The newer version’s a bit bigger and I wouldn’t mind having one when the old one is ready to retire.

Jo, when I started Perspectives in 1982 I’d been working at the U.S. Center for World Mission for 2 years and thought I already knew it all. Boy, was I surprised. It’s a great course.

  12. 😦 So tired after five days of childsitting first shift, & not getting enough sleep. Still have to sit tonight (without Chickadee, who is attending the McK family picnic), but will have tomorrow off. (Poor Hubby has worked the past ten days in a row, & these last two have been longer than usual.)

😦 A couple things I’m not bothering to write about, but are weighing on my heart.

πŸ™‚ Those five days went faster & better than I thought they would, except for a few times of Little Guy being particularly difficult. But we got past those times, & he was sweet again.

  13. πŸ™‚ Finally got to be part of a blog meet-up. What a pleasure to meet Peter and Mrs L.

πŸ™‚ A day of rest after 2 full weeks of work. The only break in the past 9 days was the trip to meet the L’s.

    πŸ™‚ Much needed rain.

    πŸ™‚ Garden is growing.
