Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 144:1-10

1 Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
    who trains my hands for war,
    my fingers for battle.
2 He is my loving God and my fortress,
    my stronghold and my deliverer,
    my shield, in whom I take refuge,
    who subdues peoples under me.

3 Lord, what are human beings that you care for them,
    mere mortals that you think of them?
4 They are like a breath;
    their days are like a fleeting shadow.

5 Part your heavens, Lord, and come down;
    touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
6 Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy;
    shoot your arrows and rout them.
7 Reach down your hand from on high;
    deliver me and rescue me
    from the mighty waters,
    from the hands of foreigners
8 whose mouths are full of lies,
    whose right hands are deceitful.

9 I will sing a new song to you, my God;
    on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,
10 to the One who gives victory to kings,
    who delivers his servant David.

My husband and I have been preparing our house to sell so that we can move a few counties south (much less snow in winter, a bit closer to my family, an area where my husband can join art societies and work with other artists)–we’re basically looking for “our last home,” so we won’t be trying to downsize in our old age. No stairs, for instance.

    We’re in the final stretches of preparing it–painting the last of the rooms that needs to be painted, hiring done whatever tasks we can’t do ourselves and that haven’t had volunteers do them. (Our son-in-law helped with a couple of things, but he has just bought his own first house.)

    We can’t buy until we sell, but we do have our eyes on a particular house. So I’m asking for prayer in the timing of all of it, that we would be able to get the house listed (and sold) with no further delays, and that “the right house” would be available when we are ready to buy.

    We’ve been thinking about this since last fall, but decided to wait over winter to list. But we didn’t start early enough in the work–we had other priorities, such as my husband’s responsibilities at church and then his father’s last weeks and months, and then he was sick for a few weeks. Now we feel some pressure to get it done, since we’re months behind where we wanted to be. But we know God’s timing is good, and we acknowledge that. Still, we are ready to finish the process and get moved and settled before winter.

  3. Cheryl if possible, get a house with an attached garage.
    It’s one of the things I miss most. I’ve only had one for fifteen years of my life, but the house in H’ville has us spoiled.
    In the coldest, wet winter weather, I could get Elvera to church and back without her ever getting wet. It’s really convenient, just getting in the car and opening the garage and leaving.

  4. I don’t think I’ve ever not had an attached garage . . . other than the carport in Hawaii. Once I left home, too, I never had the washer and dryer in that garage–always in the house. Funny how your life goes.

  6. Chas, I have never in my life had an attached garage . . . in fact, I’ve never in my life been able to park my car in a garage of any sort. In my childhood we had a carport. In Chicago I rented the downstairs of three different houses, but the landlord/landlady (who lived upstairs in many Chicago houses–upstairs would have a fireplace and other extra features) would have access to the garage and I didn’t. In Nashville I had a carport. We have a two-car garage here (detached) . . . but when we married, both spaces already held cars, my husband’s car in one and the girls’ car in the other, so mine got to park outside. It occurred to me that it would be more “appropriate” for the parents’ cars to get the garage space, except as an incoming stepmother I accepted that I couldn’t really bump them without at least some resentment. Then we sold my car, and our younger daughter bought a nice, newer car, and she pleaded for garage space to keep it nice, so the second car (which I was now free to drive since she had her own and didn’t need car #2 for work) was bumped outside.

    But yes, an attached garage is on my husband’s “required” list, and the house we like does have one. It has everything on our “required” list, including some bonuses, and it even comes in our price range (which we were finding tricky in the area where we are looking). It’s an older home, but we don’t mind that.

  7. We don’t have a garage.

    I liked how Chas wrote, “In the coldest, wet winter weather, I could get Elvera to church and back without her ever getting wet.” His concern was not for himself, but for his beloved.

    Hubby will do what he can to protect me from the elements. It is appreciated.

  8. Cheryl – When we found the house we thought was “the one”, we didn’t yet have a buyer for MIL’s house. I asked God to “hold” the house for us, if it indeed was the one He wanted for us.

    Months later, when we were ready, we found out that the owner had taken it off the market for a few months. It was waiting for us, as God had indeed put it on hold. 🙂

  9. Tomorrow begins three weeks of Nightingale working several first shifts. That means I, who am used to getting up between 7:30 & 8, will be getting up at 6am all those days (five out of six babysitting days this coming week). I don’t mean to sound like a baby about getting up early, but my body resists going to sleep earlier than usual.

    My concern is that after a few days, I am going to be so tired & worn out that my mood & behavior will not be pleasant, to say the least. I get quite emotional when I am sleep-deprived. So please pray that I will be able to get enough, or near-enough, sleep, & that I will maintain my emotional & mental equilibrium.

    Please also pray for Chickadee. Although I let her sleep in, the number of days (with first shifts being longer hours for us) will take their toll on her.

  10. Remember Pauline? Her husband posted this prayer request on Facebook, for their dog Kyra. Kyra had recently had surgery for an injury on her leg (not sure of the circumstances), then had destroyed the cone she had on, & ripped the bandages & stitches. This is the latest. . .

    “Asking for prayers. After going in for x-rays yesterday because of over 24 hrs of throwing up even water, not eating, etc. and losing 10 lbs in 2 weeks (she is down to 65 lbs from 74.6 lbs) the vet decided this morning to do surgery on Kyra. We think there is gauze caught in her stomach from when she went after her leg bandages a few times. This makes 2 surgeries in 3 weeks, and more weeks of the cone — which is depressing her.

    She just isn’t the same dog (and the change only occurred this week), and I am worried about what changes will come from this. When I left her at the vets on Friday, the look she gave me as I closed the door just made me want to rip my heart out.”

    “Doggy update: Surgery is finished. The vet said he extracted a wad about the size of a small fist from Kyra’s stomach. It was about 1/2 gauze, and 1/2 grass (apparently she can munch grass a lot faster than we thought, since we pull her away when we see her go after it). It was blocking the entrance to the small intestine.She has also already had a bowel movement.

    Part of me feels good, because I insisted the vet take xrays yesterday and give some kind of treatment because I hadn’t seen the gauze pass and was worried (he was inclined to leave things over the weekend initially). Another part feels incredibly guilty. We couldn’t find the kind of gauze the vet had put on the wound initially (very thin, almost lacy, with about 5 layers), so when we had to change the dressing we just bought people gauze pads from the Walmart pharmacy that were “Soft, absorbent, and multilayered”. I guess it was not the right kind to get when you know your dog is talented at stripping the gauze off the wound even with a cone on.”

  15. Good early morning, Becca and I will miss church again today (we missed last Sunday because of a dance conference) because poor kiddo is sick. She awakened me yesterday at 4:30. She had a temp of 103.5. Needless to say, she felt rotten. I took her to her pediatric group’s urgent care. It’s staffed primarily by NP’s. She said it was probably viral, withthe beginning of a sinus infection. Advised us to see her pediatrician Monday if she was still running fever. I tried to explain that her sinus infections never resolve on their own and she usually gets middle-ear infections with every upper respiratory infection….The NP repeated herself….it was a frustrating experience. Her fever is back this morning. So, I suppose on Monday we will head back to the doctor.

    I have my own prayer request. I have a situation that needs to be resolved. I am not very good at confrontation and standing up for myself.

  18. There is a lady in the Moebius community, Karen (also a believer), who is going to be having surgery on the 22nd of August. (I don’t remember what the surgery is for, though.) For some reason, the anesthetist insists that she needs to be intubated while still awake.

    She is very nervous about that. Please pray that either the anesthetist will change his mind, or that it will not hurt her much if he doesn’t, & for her to have peace in her heart about the whole thing as she awaits the day.

    Hubby had to have a tube forced down his throat once in the emergency room, & it was awful. (I’m not gonna tell her that, though.)

    Speaking of Karen being a believer – I have been surprised to see how many of us with Moebius are Christians. I often think of the scripture that says God chose the foolish, & many people seem to think we with Moebius look pretty foolish. 🙂

  19. Kizzie, could you remind us on the day of the surgery or the day before to pray for her?

    I don’t know why they sometimes intubate before and sometimes after putting the patient to sleep. They did it to me while I was awake once in my teens. It wasn’t the end of the world but not my favorite memory either. When I had cath procedures this year and 3 years ago they put me to sleep first, much preferable.

Karen, I don’t know if this would help or if they’d even do it, but once when I had to be intubated, the anesthesiologist said that my mouth and throat were on the small side and ordered up a child’s version, which worked much better. The few times since then that it was necessary, I asked for that again and it’s always been granted.

  22. Linda – Karen does indeed have a very small mouth. (As do many with Moebius. Mine, I think, is smaller than many “normal” people’s, but not abnormally small.) I’ll suggest this to her. Thank you.

  23. Nightingale took Little Guy to a park-playground after work. He fell off the monkey bars, & his arm hurts a lot. They are now in the ER at the hospital.
