Prayer Requests 7-19-17

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia, and for Ajisuun as well.

Anyone else?

Psalm 134

Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord
who minister by night in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
    and praise the Lord.

May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who is the Maker of heaven and earth.

  1. I found out Monday that my “little sister” in a “sorority” when we were girls—we are far from girls anymore—has abdominal cancer. She went through a really rough time with a husband with a porn addiction, who cost them everything. She is now a single mother. She moved to Texas a couple of years ago to be a music teacher and life has been really good for and to her there. She went through some treatment without telling anyone, but has come home to leave her son here, while she and her mother go back to Texas for more treatment/answers, but the cancer really didn’t respond to the first round, so we are all praying for a miracle.
Being completely selfish, I hate that people around me are sick, suffering, perhaps even dying. I am not prepared to lose more people in my life and I am pretty positive they aren’t ready to leave me either.

  2. I had a very bad asthma attack last night. Thankfully, the symptoms abated enough for me to sleep, but I need to seek further medical attention. Since I’m on a very powerful inhaler already, I may have to move to oral anti-inflammatory medication, i.e. prednisone. That stuff is always a nightmare to take, the side effects are so horrible – I had to be put on an antidepressant just to be able to sleep when I had to take it during that attack in West Africa. Pray that I will find full relief (the air quality was really bad yesterday, which was probably what set me off) and be able to finish my last two courses (final exam in stats next week, group presentation for Global Health the week after). What happens going forward, I have no idea. I may have to withdraw. As it is, I do not think I can get groceries without help.

  3. Next week, Nightingale & Little Guy will be going to New York for vacation. Nightingale carefully planned this vacation months ago, after learning that they could camp out on Staten Island (I think that’s where she said), & be able to get around to the various sights they would like to see, without it costing her too much money. This was all planned & booked before she got Puppy Janie.

You may remember that Nightingale’s best friend Stephanie had Janie first, but turned out to be allergic to her (but not to her other dog). She promised to take Janie for the vacation week, saying she could stay on allergy meds for that time.

What makes me a little nervous about that – There was a day a couple weeks ago when the two of them, & their children, went out for a long day, & Stephanie’s significant other was going to puppysit Janie. Steph said she’d rather he not, because she would have to deal with her allergies when she got home.

Nightingale looked into the possibility of boarding Janie in a kennel, but they are too expensive.

So. . .I’m nervous that I may end up with Janie back on my doorstep sometime next week. Of course, if that happened, Nightingale would have to come home. But I am really looking forward to a nice, quiet, restful week (I really need it), not only with not having to babysit, but also without the usual “popping down” by either or both of them. And I wouldn’t want them to have to cut their vacation short.

(Don’t get me wrong. I love that they live in our home, & I also love that, although they have their own apartment upstairs, they still consider our home their home, & that Little Guy loves to come & hang out with us at times. But being able to relax (or do stuff I need to do) uninterrupted will be a nice break.)

Please pray that Stephanie will not have a problem with her allergies, & for safety for Nightingale & Little Guy.

  4. Dog sitter visits for walks, trips to the park might help take the puppy edge off and be affordable (for you or Stephanie) — might be someone in the neighborhood who does something like that

  5. Thank you for praying. It is prednisone for me, five days worth. I took the first dose at lunch and not long after noticed the inevitable heartburn; but that is the least of its effects. Lord willing, it will work. I did something I’ve not done up to this point. I went to the church and looked for help. Generally, due to bus routes and schedules. I take the bus about 2/3 of the way home and then walk the rest of the way (I’ve lost a lot of weight, or rather size, because of all the exercise and I wasn’t overweight to begin with), because to transfer buses on the way home means either standing for up to 20 minutes in the hot sun waiting for the one bus that goes close by where I live (actually about a five minute walk from the bus stop) or going all the way downtown to catch another bus back out to where I live (another five minute walk from that stop too). Today, I knew I could not walk those last fifteen minutes and it is far too hot to stand in the sun, so I rode the bus downtown. I stopped into the mall near where the bus stops to get lunch and take my medication, then studied in the city library where there was air conditioning. I was so tired by about 2:00 I knew I needed to go home, but I felt too weak to walk through the mall to the bus stop. The church is just across the street from the library. So, I went there. One of the elders noticed me, and asked if I needed something. I told him my problem and his wife offered to take me home, so I was driven to the door of my house. An small answer to prayer.
