  3. What a nice photo and obviously nice place to be. I love the serenity that being near the water brings me. The waves seem to want to relieve me of all of my problems, cares, and worries. I come back better from it. I am glad you had that time Michelle. My current “happy place” seems to be my friend’s cottage on the Bay.

    Good morning, Chas, AJ, Linda, all who will be arriving.

    Busy day today — I’ll leave you to your conversations for the day while I take care of business here. I spent a lot of time yesterday preparing a new educational plan for 5th & 6th Arrows, and today we hop to it.

    And there’s always home maintenance, which never ends, of course. When the septic people show up to begin work on that (don’t know how many days, weeks or months till that happens), they will have to be in our basement for a while, my husband tells me, and it’s a perpetual disaster down there in too many places because of too much stuff that got bought or given to us. We try to organize down there a little every day, and Thursdays it is our big clean-up day for that area of the house. Hoping discarded items don’t get fished out of the throw-away pile…

    And I’ve got to figure out what to do about the problem with my student’s competition piece that I described in my last post last night. I feel entirely responsible for the mess she’s in. I sat down and cried last night over it, but today I’m over those emotions — just feeling a very strong urge to do something proactive. Pray for wisdom for me? I’m afraid any solution I come up with will be messy.

    Why?
    He came close to it on the last one, “What does it matter?” But nothing is as good as simply.
    “Why?”

    I was always asking that.
    My dad would answer, “Because I said so.” It wasn’t good enough for me. But it had to do. I discovered that throughout life, it’s all you have to go on.
    “Because that’s the way it is.”

    Everyone has to answer that question someday.
    The jihadist who is wearing a suicide vest has already answered and like millions of others, faces the consequences of his answer.
    Same as millions of others.

  18. I hear a frantic hawk calling out in our neighborhood this morning. Poor guy! I wish I knew what to do to help. Oh, now I hear another answering. I was wondering if it might be a young one being harassed by crows for the first time.

    Last night Art and I watched Queen of Katwe which is based on the true story of a girl and siblings from the slum area in Uganda who attended a children’s Pioneer Club and became chess champions. So Art and I made it to Uganda and Russia all in one movie produced by Disney. The Christian faith plays strong in this movie.

    But have you noticed that “World” has started writing it’s text is such small letters?
    I can hardly read it even with a magnifying glass.
    Trying to save paper maybe.

  20. Again, I apologize for not being very active on the prayer thread. With the new groups I belong to here on the home front, the prayer needs have escalated. We have a detailed list with the ladies’ small group, the church merger, my WMU group, and also the inmates that I review Bible lessons for. And I put a few prayers for people out on social media. I still have not figured out how to juggle to cover all the needs in an in depth way.

    I’m up earlier today, at least there was no dog mess to clean up. I’m convinced it’s when Tess manages to raid the cat’s food that that happens. 😦

    I transferred all the towels into the newly cleaned- and cleared-out hall closet last night. Now I have an empty bookcase in the hallway I can use again. Slowly, slowly … it’s coming …

    I dreamed the foundation guys bailed and Real Estate Guy tells me not to worry, the two of us can do this work ourselves, it just requires a little crawling around under the house for a few weeks … He would supervise, I’d crawl. Ha.

    OK, I need a second cup of coffee now.

It also demonstrates what I was saying the other week about the effortless integration of stringed instruments – not just the guitar and strings, but also the sitar, which greatly influenced the techniques of Western heavy metal guitarists – between cultures and the fascinating rhythmic techniques of that musical tradition.   26. Finally broke down and got new phones. Smart ones too…. allegedly. Added a new line for ‘Liz too. She’s pretty happy about that.

    And Verizon is no longer a part of my life. I’m pretty happy about that. 🙂

  28. We have a curious mid-year congregational meeting scheduled for later this month. We never have mid-year meetings. Sounds like it’s on a particular topic that wasn’t named.

    I’m guessing either staff changes (most likely as we have an opening) or another church facility possibility (despite our remodel a couple years ago on the very expensive rental space we’ve had for 20 years, we continue to look for something to purchase or perhaps a church building to share/lease).

    Three returns to get back to Amazon today — extra clothes hangers (I ordered 1 box too many), T-shirts that arrived in both the wrong size & wrong color, and a set of sheets that I later found for $5 on the Amazon Prime day (I’d paid $36 for them just a few days earlier).
