It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Psalm 84

1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
    Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
    Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.

5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
    they make it a place of springs;
    the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength,
    till each appears before God in Zion.

8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;
    listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield, O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.

10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.

  1. Praying that 6 Arrows is feeling better today. Tooth pain can be one of the worst. Also sometimes it can be related to a sinus infection that causes built up pressure in the jaw area. Has that been considered? Are x-rays in order to see if it might be from something else?

    I’m still in the hospital. We are waiting to see what the cultures do this morning. They are afraid of me being septic and fluid building up around my heart. But I feel OK. My numbers just suck

  3. Thank you, Janice. I slept better than usual last night, and woke up with less pain.

    Counting my blessings:

    side effects of antibiotic gone now since having started a probiotic yesterday;

    heart rate and other issues relieved now today, having stopped using acetaminophen a few days ago;

    slight jaundice (also likely from the acetaminophen) appears to be cleared up;

    ibuprofen I took last night did not cause an stomach issues that I’m aware of;

    payday today, so I can go shopping tomorrow and stock the cabinets with some items I can try for further home remedies;

    Thank you for all your prayers. If I can just ask for one more:

    Tomorrow a very special young lady I know is getting married. She is the piano student I had the longest — nine years. She’s been through a lot, including the death of her younger brother by suicide 6 1/2 years ago. I so want to be there tomorrow when she makes her vows before the Lord, and am hoping to be feeling well enough to attend both the wedding and the reception. That may be a selfish request, but I would really appreciate prayers on that, anyway. Pray as the Lord leads.

    Co-worker just lost a sister rather unexpectedly — and that follows the loss just a couple months ago of their dad (in his 90s, but a very hard loss) and another sister before that, last year. And we’re so short-handed that people are having to slog through all these difficult personal times by showing up for work, able or not.

  6. Asking prayer for Hubby again. Our home equity line of credit has expired, so the balance will be turned into a regular loan, which I guess will demand a larger monthly payment. Things are tight financially, so please pray it will be manageable. And please pray Hubby will not feel too stressed about that, or the other financial stresses, but will be able to truly trust in, & rest in, the Lord.

    Something that has a large, negative effect on his mood & level of stress is that he doesn’t get enough sleep, due to the long hours he works. (At least he likes his job, which is a positive.) Praying that God would lead him to a job that will meet our financial needs but require fewer hours, that he will enjoy & excel at.

    As for me, I sometimes feel overwhelmed myself when I think too much about various things that need to be done around here, & the stresses on my husband. Feeling that way today.

    DJ, from last night: I’m not familiar with Marathon Man. Why shouldn’t I watch it? (Or maybe I don’t want to know.) 😉

    I have the all-clear from the pharmacist that it’s OK to ingest oil of oregano while on the antibiotic — using them together shouldn’t be a problem, in his estimation. He also believes that if I do have an infection with the tooth, the antibiotic should take care of the associated pain within two to three days of starting it. It’s been about 48 hours now since I began it. If I’m still in pain beyond about 24 hours from now, I likely don’t have an infection, he said, but some other problem. I asked him if I should stop taking the amoxicillin in that case, or continue it to the end of the ten days it was prescribed. He said I should ask my dentist what to do in that case.

    My dentist is away from the office until Tuesday, so if I’m still in pain after tomorrow, I will add oil of oregano and other home remedies I haven’t tried (thanks for the clove oil recommendation and testimonial, Mumsee and NancyJill), and call the dentist Tuesday to see what to do about the amoxicillin.

    I feel better about the answers I am getting, and am especially pleased that my pain so far today has been tolerable enough that I’ve not had to take ibuprofen or even ice my jaw! Though it’s starting to feel raw again right now, so maybe I should get some ice on it soon to stay ahead of that pain, which tends to worsen the later in the day it gets.

  9. You should always finish any antibiotic unless the doctor prescribes something to take it’s place. This is how “bug” become resistant to antibiotics.

  10. That’s what I’ve generally heard, but the oil of oregano has strong antibiotic properties, so I wonder if that could be considered the replacement for any unfinished amoxicillin?

  13. I have one week to get over the sciatica before the conference. I have to go no matter how I feel. We can not get our money back on the conference or the hotel. Pray the chiropractor can get some results.

  16. Finishing an antibiotic is about respecting others. Finish the round so it will have maximum time to kill off those bacteria. Oil of oregano may or may not be after the same bugs. Clove oil may or may not be after the same bugs. They all help to some extent.

  17. What Mumsee said. People who don’t finish prescribed antibiotics are why a lot of them no longer work. The bacteria they are meant to kill don’t die and build up a resistance.

    I did not watch it, & have chosen not to watch the movie. Any depictions of torture are too much for me, & having occasional dental problems makes me doubly sure I don’t want to see that.

  34. PRAISE ALERT!!!!
    From L.
    I am home! I wish I could say that it was bc I was able to charm the hospital docs and nurses with promises of viewing my hot naked body to get me released today, but, alas, it was due to my antibiotics and fluids working!
    I feel much better. My chemo has been rescheduled for June 1st. So I’ve only been delayed by this infection for 8 days which is good.
    If I can stay home and stay hydrated, all will be well.
    Thanks for the support and prayers, y’all. I’m sorry I’ve been too sick to talk to all of you.

  35. Staying hydrated is difficult if you have an aversion to liquids.
    Elvera seems to have developed this aversion. I have to keep after her. “Drink this!””

    Chas I can relate to not wanting to drink…living in a dry climate requires constant hydration…but then you continually have to go to the bathroom because you have to drink so much…which can just be a bother sometimes….

  38. Her doctor wants her to go to the bathroom a lot because she is susceptible to urinary tract infection. She will sit there a couple of hours with a glass of tea in her hand.
    I say, “drink something”. She takes a sip, but doesn’t consume much liquid.

  39. Oh, Chas, I feel for you, I really do. My MIL Mary would not drink, either, nor would she eat much. (It once took me five hours of occasional urges to “take another bite” for her to finish half a sandwich. And I don’t think she even finished it completely.) Having to keep an eye on how much she was drinking & eating, & remembering to continually coax her to take some more, was frustrating & exhausting. And she ended up hospitalized for dehydration anyway, despite my best efforts.

    Someone (Kim, maybe?) suggested using straws. There is something about drinking through a straw that gets more into us. And soups, ice cream, stuff like that, can get more liquids in her, too. God bless you & strengthen you as you take care of your beloved.

  40. When I worked on the inpatient unit we had a snowcone ice maker…think shaved ice…..we would pour over it whatever the patient wanted…the ice melted quicker in the mouth, it was sweet to the lips and soothing to the tongue….

  45. 6 Arrows, I remember and miss reading the adventures of Drill. A couple years ago I saw a headline that said, “NASA Sending Drill to Mars”, so I don’t think we’ll see him for awhile. I look forward to his return, though, because his tales of space travel are always entertaining.
