Prayer Requests 5-24-17

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia, and for Ajisuun as well.

Anyone else?

Psalm 83

O God, do not remain silent;
do not turn a deaf ear,
do not stand aloof, O God.
See how your enemies growl,
how your foes rear their heads.
With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
“Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,
so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”

With one mind they plot together;
they form an alliance against you—
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
    of Moab and the Hagrites,
Byblos, Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
Even Assyria has joined them
    to reinforce Lot’s descendants.

Do to them as you did to Midian,
as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10 who perished at Endor
and became like dung on the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, “Let us take possession
of the pasture lands of God.”

13 Make them like tumbleweed, my God,
    like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest
or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your storm.
16 Cover their faces with shame, Lord,
so that they will seek your name.

17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed;
    may they perish in disgrace.
18 Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord
that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

  1. The conference call didn’t happen yesterday. One of the people was interviewing a recruit and didn’t make the call to get us all together. I am feeling a little let down that things aren’t moving along. Part of me thinks that if I am this unimportant while they are interviewing me how will they treat me once they have me. The other part is so desperate to get away from Guy….
Well, this is how I have ended up taking a leap and failing for the last years. I am just ready for some good things in my life. It all goes back to a stupid decision I made in July of 2003. If I could go back I would do things differently.

  2. I just received this from my friend L
Evidently I am too sick for today’s chemo and I am being admitted to hospital again. Suspected UTI/kidney infection. Wish me luck. Again.

  3. Please pray the antibiotics I was prescribed yesterday will help at least reduce some of my pain. They don’t really know if they will help, and so far they’ve done nothing but give me diarrhea, but I was told they could start helping about two days after starting them, depending on how much or whether bad bacteria is in the tooth/nerve area). Home remedies aren’t working very well or at all; ibuprofen gives me a stomach ache after a few consecutive days of use, and the acetaminophen is giving me heart palpitations and a very slight, whole-body tremor, it feels like, which makes me afraid I’m going to fall and knock my jaw on the way down. And I can eat little else than soft foods, which don’t satisfy my hunger, and which makes me feel all the weaker.

It hurts to move, and I’m doing little else than sitting and crying, and I’m not trying to be dramatic when I say this, but I am beginning to understand the desperation that drove my great-grandfather to suicide due to his unrelenting pain (from cancer, which in those days — early 1900s — would have yielded few or no effective pain-treatment options).

Just trying to hang on until June 12, when I can (hopefully) get a root canal that eliminates my pain… Please, please continue your prayer support.

  4. Six, praying for you. Have you tried oil of oregano? Three drops in a cup of water four times a day for a while. It is ghastly tasting to some, fine to me. But it has helped me get the inflammation down from various tooth issues. May help. It is fairly potent for fighting that sort of thing and works quite quickly. But you have to have the strong stuff.

  5. We went to visit my dad the other day, right after the children were given Gideon Bibles from the Gideon speaker. I told them those Bibles were actually to be given to non believers. Fifteen year old gave it to my dad. Pray that God would use it for His purposes. I told her that was an excellent idea.

  6. They do indeed. And that particular daughter has at least five Bibles that she reads. The Gideons gave me my first Bible, the one I used to hide under my mattress because we were good agnostics at our house. I have always appreciated their work.

  7. What are the antibiotics for? If the tooth is badly infected that doesn’t mean you need a root canal or that they will give one until an infection is cleared up. Dentist doesn’t sound too good to me. Can’t mess around with infection there.

  8. Kim, you said, “Part of me thinks that if I am this unimportant while they are interviewing me how will they treat me once they have me.”

For what it’s worth, sometimes the hiring process can be remarkably dysfunctional even when the job is a gem. Last summer my son had a great interview for his dream job, line crewman for an aviation operations company at a small local airport. They said they would hire him when they had an opening. Then he got lost in the shuffle and they hired someone else — twice. And it’s a pretty small company so you can’t blame a big bureaucracy. But he finally did get the job and has been happy there ever since. They treat him well.

I hope, and pray, that this job or something else better comes your way soon!

  9. Thanks for the oil of oregano suggestion, Mumsee. I’ve never used that, and don’t have any on hand, but looked up some information about it after you mentioned it, and might try that.

I called the dentist office again this afternoon (after I saw your comment) to, among other things, ask about taking oil of oregano while I’m taking the amoxicillin they prescribed. My dentist wasn’t there, but a different one on staff said they don’t recommend that. So then I asked the office lady who was relaying the messages back and forth why oil of oregano isn’t recommended. Is it because they know interaction would be a problem, or because they aren’t sure if it’s a problem?

Anyway, the answer was basically, we don’t deal with oils. I told them I would call a pharmacist and ask then. (I haven’t yet, though, since I had a piano student soon after I called, and then supper to think about.)

Kathaleena, I don’t really know what the antibiotics are for, other than that the dentist thinks I might have some bad bacteria in there that’s causing the pain?? Maybe? I’m just so confused about what’s going on in there. The tooth that needed the crown didn’t even have deep issues — some of mine have in the past needed a crown build-up before putting on the crown, but this one didn’t. So why I’ve never had trouble before with getting crowns, even when they were badly needed, and I have such major problems now with this one that wasn’t that bad before they went in there, is beyond me. It makes me wonder if they hit a nerve somehow when they numbed me up at the first appointment, or when they dug around in there. I had no pain going into the appointment, and now, two weeks later, have it almost round the clock, at levels that range from extremely distracting to nearly through-the-roof painful.

It also makes me question if a root canal would help. It could make things worse, with more messing around in there. And there are so many conflicting reports about the value of (or the danger of) root canals, depending on the source your read/talk to. My dentist said the fact that I wake up at night in pain means the problem is the nerve, and that a root canal is the only fix for a nerve problem. (Other than extracting the tooth, but they don’t recommend that, because then you lose a tooth. Makes me wonder why they’re so gung ho about everybody getting their wisdom teeth out then. But I digress.)

Maybe I should consult a naturopathic dentist. I was frustrated almost beyond words when I called the regular office today, told them the antibiotics were causing diarrhea, and I was in more pain today than yesterday. They said it would take three days for the antibiotics to “start working” and I should take immodium (sp?) for the diarrhea. I *don’t* want to be taking yet another thing to counteract the effects of something that is supposed to be doing good, but isn’t!

Drugs and procedures and more procedures and more drugs. So. sick. of. this.

More advice welcome. I can hardly think straight. And all prayers very appreciated.

  10. 6 arrows, that all sounds awful, I don’t know how you can bear it for so long (and with so little helpful responses from the dental office). Praying that gets the attention it clearly needs.

Carol is being released from the hospital today but will be in isolation due to a confirmed case of scabies — they told her they even had to destroy the sweatshirt she wore in there and she’s wondering what will happen to her other clothing back at the facility.

  11. 6 Arrows – If an infection is causing the pain, then you do need to give the antibiotic time to do its thing, which I know is frustrating since you’ve been in such pain.

What I have been wondering, but have hesitated to say, thinking it may be something more serious, is if this is due to something I have had happen to me about three times over the years. Those times, a new crown (or temp) or a new filling ended up being a smidgen higher than it should have been. That doesn’t sound like it would be too painful, but after a bit, the pain ratchets up & can be almost excruciating. (I tend to say “almost excruciating” for severe pain, because I hesitate to say “excruciating”, but some may find it so. And honestly, these were times I might have used that word in the midst of the pain.)

The solution – the dentist merely files it down – is simple. The first time this happened, I had no idea what it might be, thinking the pain would go away, & so didn’t call the dentist until I was in severe pain. The time or two after that, I recognized it for what it might be, & went back sooner (but it was still really painful).

I’ve also had an infection that a new dentist in the office should have given me an antibiotic for, but didn’t, & that was horrible pain, too.

But my dentist office has always said that they don’t want anyone in severe pain, & to call if there’s a problem. I hope your dentist gets to the bottom of this for you very soon.

  12. Mumsee, thanks for asking about my flyboy. He’s passed the written exam, but he still needs more hours of instruction in the air and his medical exam before he gets his license. He expects to finish sometime this summer.

  13. DJ, I don’t know how I can bear it, either, except by God’s mercy, working through the prayers of many. My dentist probably thinks I can bear it because, to him, I seem to have a much higher pain threshold than most people — he said yesterday, “your three [on a 1-10 pain scale] is others’ eight.” Gee, great, what do I do when *I’m* at an eight (or 9 or 10 or a gazillion)? Ha ha.

Kizzie, I went in on Monday of last week (six days after the temporary crown had been put on, and three days after the intense pain had started), and it was indeed a little high. My dentist filed it down a bit, and that relieved some of the pain for about a day or so. But it ramped right back up again after that, and so when I was there again yesterday, I had him check the height, and he found it to be exactly where it should be. Everything about my bite is aligning perfectly.

There is a glimmer of good news tonight. My pain has diminished in the last hour, since having sucked on a xylitol mint with natural peppermint oil in it, which reportedly has pain-numbing and bacteria-fighting effects, according to one thing I read today. I kept it in the affected mouth area until the mint dissolved, and it feels a little better now.

Tomorrow 6th Arrow has a dentist appointment. (She goes to a different dental office than I do.) Hubby said on the phone just now that I should try to talk to as many people as I can about what can be done, so I will ask her dentist a few questions while I’m there tomorrow.

  14. Holy cow, and ouch ouch ouch — it hurts again just as much as it ever has. The mint only had temporary good effects. Just took another ibuprofen, the best pain reliever I’ve tried with the least-unpleasant side effects. 😦

I will stop with the bad news reports on this front now — you all must be so sick of hearing them from me, and typing doesn’t take my pain away, anyway. I’ll let you know when there’s something good to report about it, and skip the rest. Thank you for your prayers.

  15. Clove oil is another good one. I cannot imagine the dentist not fitting you in long before this. They don’t like their patients to be in pain.

  16. My dentist doesn’t like me to be in pain, either, but he’s not the one who would be doing the root canal — someone at an endodontic clinic he referred me to will, but the first opening they have for any of their four endodontists that would allow time for a root canal right at the consultation appointment is not until June 12. I’m going to call around and try to find a different endodontist to see if I can get in earlier. I should have done that sooner, but was not thinking clearly.

  17. Oh I recall using clove oil once when I had swelling and pain in an area of my gum…what about Ora-jel? Seems that may numb it as well…but the clove had a numbing effect as well….Praying you can find an oral surgeon who will take you in right away…praying to that end! ❤

  18. 6 Arrows, just don’t rent Marathon Man tonight.

Wow, my fence area is a mess. I had time today after work to really get a close look at it and her white picket fence, which is ancient and coming apart, has slid onto my side of the retaining wall with a MASS of thick vegetation pushing it forward. She wants to save the fence but there’s really know way we can build my fence there unless that thing is dismantled and that thicket is cut way, way back.

Prayers for patients and a good solution that’s agreeable to all parties so this project doesn’t just get stalled from all the complications. I knew it sounded too easy …

And Carol is pressuring me again, too, she wants me to come visit her on Saturday with her birthday gift. I sent an email to one of her church people suggesting Carol needs prayers but also a few calls would help her spirits. It would help if one or two others would try to stay in touch with her like that, otherwise it’s all falling on me and I feel like I’m about to scream. 😦

  19. patience. 🙂 lol

Anyway, the upshot is (from the way it looks to me) that it was her overgrowth and fence that has pushed and caused my fence to fail, basically (not that mine didn’t need replacing anyway due to age, but that’s what’s stressed it I think).

  20. Apply that to Carol as well. You won’t do her much good if you are resenting her. Praying for you in a situation I have been in a couple of times.
