Prayer Requests 4-20-17

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

  1. Praises. I was on lunch recess duty today. My one little girl always follows me around the entire time I am on duty. Today she was playing with the rest of the class as they slid down a sidewalk on flat scooters. This is a major milestone for her.

  2. Kim – I understand. I’ve been trying to fight off depression myself lately, & feeling that too much is on my shoulders, things that are out of my control anyway. May God help us to release the stress & anxiety & pain into His hands, & to commit those who cause the stress into His hands, too.

  3. Kim, what Linda said. You need to live your life with your husband. Daughter will make her choices and as you shift the load to her, where it rightly belongs, she will begin to mature. We don’t know how far she will get or how low she will sink, but it is not your job as her mom to let her take you down with her. We are all individuals and responsible for our actions. You have given her a wonderful start, it is up to her. You can be available to her but need to let her make her decisions and live with her consequences. Which includes financial. She will continue to let you pay for her garbage as long as you are willing to.

    Exhibit A: nineteen year old is living on his own, He has had to get and keep a job. He had to sell his truck when he was laid off for the winter. He has had to work for the landowner, at housecleaning when he could not pay the rent. He is learning to save a bit. A lesson we try to instill into each of our children with varying success. He seems to be getting away from the drugs and alcohol but as long as we were supporting him, it was a free ride to use and abuse.

  4. Which does not mean we will not be here praying for you and yours. We all want our children to make right choices, and will continue to pray for them.

  5. I am not sure how happy everyone else is. Most people have things going on in their lives and can look happier than they are. Certainly, people share more of their happy moments online. It is like the magazine ads full of beautiful, slim women. What you see is not always what is really there.

    I had one negative response yesterday from someone I love. That is what my mind wants to dwell on, instead of some of the good positive things I experienced or heard yesterday. The battle for the mind is strong.

    I find it interesting how the Holy Spirit uses scripture as we meditate on it. Lately, the phrase, “He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake,” has been a comfort to me.

    Praying you will find a verse that helps bring your mind back to truth, Kim and Kizzie, too. I know you are in the word, but praying for that verse that would be a real blessing at this time.

  6. Kim, I wrote a reply something like Kathaleena’s first paragraph but somehow it never got posted. You are probably in that “everyone else” to some other people.

  7. You took the words right out of my mouth, Mumsee. (Or out of my fingers?)

    I had a dream about KBells last night. I don’t know what she looks like, but I recognized her in my dream. 🙂 KBells, you’ve been in my thoughts and prayers often lately. May the Lord bring relief from pain, and grant you peace in all that is going on in your life and that of your family’s.

    Anon, you and your wife are in my frequent thoughts and prayers, as well. I am praying for peace and reconciliation for you both, and that if you are feeling down and like life isn’t worth living, that you will remember the deep love your Savior has for you. Walk with Him through the storm, and know that you have friends here who are praying for you and yours along the journey. Let us know how you are doing. You’ve made a wise decision to reach out here in your pain. We care, and remember that the Lord loves you far more deeply than any human can.

    11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
    So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
    12 As far as the east is from the west,
    So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
    13 As a father pities his children,
    So the Lord pities those who fear Him.

  8. Praise! I got a phone call from the mom of my advanced piano student, telling me she and her daughter passed along their recommendation and my phone number to my student’s friend who is looking for a piano teacher. (Unfortunate end to previous long-term piano teacher/student relationship, initiated by the teacher for reasons I’ll not go into.) know the young lady, have seen her play — she’s excellent — and she has seen me “teach” (she was the page turner for my student at the music competition in March, and saw how I interacted with my student after the performance — the encouragement and comments I gave her on her playing).

    Anyway, she’s not studied for six weeks or so, but I had a chance to talk to her today (we’re both performing in the same concert this weekend, and she came to practice at the venue right as I was finishing my practice there) and she told me that she had said to her mom that I am the one she wants to study with for these next several months until she goes off to college in the fall. Mom has reportedly agreed to it, but we will all sit down to meet together to discuss musical goals and my policy, as well as do the free mini-lesson I conduct as part of the consultation, just so we’re all clear that this is how we want to proceed.

    Prayers for wisdom appreciated. I’m so excited that this possibility is so promising, but this is also a different situation than any other I’ve ever had with a potential student — needing lessons for only a brief period, still being in high school but almost an adult (she turns 18 next month). My policy is more geared towards parents (assuming the students are minors), rather than towards adult students, which I’ve not taught for many, many years (and for whom I’d never had a policy). Kind of a gray area right now for me, determining my philosophy on students who are still in high school, living under their parents’ roof, but are (or will be soon) adults. And whose parents are going to be paying tuition. (I’d been thinking recently, too, about offering lessons on a temporary basis for college students who are home for the summer, maybe having a pay-as-you-come lesson on an as-needed basis. My current student is a high school junior, and I would love to keep her on like that after she goes away to college, if she ends up back around here during her school breaks.)

    Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Thanks be to God for young musicians who are serious about using their God-given gifts, and if you’d pray for wisdom in how I can do my best in helping them advance according to their unique giftings, I would be so grateful!

  9. P.S. My student’s mom, when she called today, told me that after she got home from her lesson last night (around 9:00 p.m.), she sat down at the piano and told her mom she wanted to give her a concert. 🙂 She played her piece she’s taking to state, and also sightread a new piece I’d bought for her and given her last night (though I didn’t assign it — she’ll start working on it after the state competition is over). She couldn’t wait, though, and just wanted to try it out right away when she got home. 🙂

    She is just eating up piano lately, and has progressed so far in a brief time. So exciting to hear about young people all fired up about their music, applying themselves well, and going above and beyond. I love it! 🙂

  10. This isn’t quite the same thing, 6 Arrows, but Little Guy has blossomed in his reading. It’s as if “all of a sudden” he is reading everything in sight! So wonderful to witness.

  11. Not a big matter, but tomorrow three of us have dentist appointments, and I hate those things. I always get bad news, and tomorrow won’t be any different because I had at least one cavity at my checkup six months ago (so did 3rd Arrow, who also has an appt. tomorrow), but we had no money to get them filled. My guess is those teeth aren’t in any better condition now. :-/

    Fourth Arrow also has an appointment tomorrow, and she tends to get better reports than 3rd Arrow and I do, so hopefully that will be the case, although I’m betting they’re going to push wisdom teeth removal, which 3rd Arrow had done last year, and was the reason we ran out of money we allocate for dental work.

    Prayers for my attitude on this more than anything. Thanks.

  12. I went to bed over three hours ago (the first mistake — it was too early for me), and so far, sleep has eluded me. I got in some prayer time, so it wasn’t wasted, but I could use some prayer support, anyone who sees this, that I would fall asleep soon and then stay asleep. Alarm is set to ring about five hours from now. Tomorrow will be too busy to take a nap, and Saturday the fatigue will likely hit me the worst — not a good thing for concert day.

    How can I be in such a foul mood when I had such a great day? 😦
