Ricky mentioned whole Episcopal churches leaving the denomination in the 1990’s. It caused a lot of law suits as well. Churches lost their buildings and contents when that happened. Turns out the Diocese owned everything.
I left the Episcopal church myself. I joined the Anglican Church in North America. A group of clergy put themselves under the Bishops of South Africa. Your personal testimony and your relationship with Christ matters. We have grown to the point that we now have our own Bishops and Diocese. I am in the Gulf-Atlantic Diocese.

“The FBI used information from the explosive, unverified dossier detailing President Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia to obtain a warrant to secretly monitor former Trump adviser Carter Page.
That same dossier — a collection of memos compiled by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele — has been used in other elements of the US investigation into whether there was any inappropriate contact between Trump campaign associates and Russia.

Five big topics accounted for roughly two-fifths (43%) of the whopping 1,900 minutes of total network airtime devoted to the Trump administration. But those five topics accounted for a much larger share (63%) of the negative coverage hurled at the administration, as the networks covered each with an overwhelmingly hostile (more than 90% negative) slant.”

I don’t think this will happen, but there is an opportunity for an Ailes/O’Reilly/Bannon startup news network. They could add a few of the more extreme and goofy radio talk show hosts. I am certain they would be able to pull viewers from Fox even as Trump pulled voters from Rubio, Walker, et al. I am not sure they would be able to attract major corporate sponsors.
They are in no-win situations. If they stay true to their conservative principles on issues like free trade and the infrastructure boondoggle, Trump and his cult will fight them. If they degrade themselves and become Trumpkins, they will have to constantly monitor Twitter and CNN in order to change their positions daily or hourly to stay aligned with Trump.
In any event the Democrats figure to take a bunch of their seats in 2018 and 2020.

Although people seem to like the Weimar analogy, it won’t be realistic until both the Democrats and the Republicans have their own militias in the street. Unfortunately, Weimar political-social history has been under treated by the English world — too busy looking at upcoming events.
I always thought Bannon, Trump, etc were planning to form their own network but an unexpected event in November derailed them for now. But Bannon is getting pushed out of the White House, O’Reilly is free, so maybe they don’t need Trump right now.
I found the Eastern Orthodox discussion interesting. I was raised Dutch Reformed but married a Polish Catholic. I found the rite, rote and ritual of Catholicism more in tune with what it means to be human and culturally relevant. Thousands of years of fine tuning probably did make it more in tune than dry Protestantism. Although some rituals had me shaking my head ( children bringing eggs and sausage to be blessed on Easter), they give people a sense of belonging. Now, I disagree with just about everything Catholic but if I was to attend church they have a head start on my soul just because of the rite rote and ritual.
