Psalm 19
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.

Wandering Views 
Good morning. It’s Ann. Lindsey fell off a horse at a horse show Sunday. Yesterday, we learned she has another concussion–it’s her third….Please pray for a speedy recovery and that she has no lasting effects. Thanks

I’m sorry to hear about Lindsey’s fall, Ann. Prayers for her.

I wish I could be more eloquent than that, and say something that is comforting, but right now I’m fighting tears and overwhelm and am having a hard time thinking much beyond myself. 😦 Pray if you feel led. Thanks.

Ann, I hope her doctors tell her no more horse riding for at least a year. Concussions may actually do more damage in the long term than a more traumatic head injury, like a fractured skull. You probably don’t watch hockey, but hockey players have had to end their careers after repeated concussions. It is too dangerous: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/92189-overview

Kaitlyn’s doctor was very blunt with her today, asking her why she thought she was getting chemo. Kaitlyn answered “to get better” Doctor said “no, just to give you more time” Kaitlyn then said she was going to look into going to another country for a cure, like Mexico or the Mayo Clinic. The doctor told her that the answers would all be the same.
The lesions on her liver have grown, her lungs are full of lesions and her O2 sats are only 79 on almost full oxygen. This thing is so ugly and so quick.
Please continue to pray for Kaitlyn as well as her parents and please add Chandra into the mix as she has been organizing visits and food and now she’s also staying overnight at the hospital with Kaitlyn. Chan is the youth pastor at a church in Saskatoon and is the Leadership and Discipleship coordinator for summer camp staff at Kadesh. She is married and has two teenage foster sons as well as her full time job so her plate is very full right now.

Kare, so many of those things in Mexico and other places are outright scams. My sister-in-law was enrolled in one that told her that America chased them over the border because American doctors were jealous that they had such high success rates with cancer. They told her that she was so diligent at following their plan that she “would” survive it. (She went in with stage-four cancer.) They had her doing videos on their site (which they conveniently recorded very early in her “treatment” while she was still enthusiastic and she thought it was working), and she was generous in making quilts for them and putting together a big Thanksgiving meal and so forth. I remember when she realized that she was one of only two who started the program together who were still alive and that the other one would die soon, and I think she began to realize that this team of charlatans was just sitting in Mexico raking in vast amounts of money from desperate, gullible Americans. My sister-in-law’s testimonial of their wonderful program was still on their site a couple of months after she died; I checked.
At the end, when it was clear the program hadn’t helped, her husband and she had some hard conversations about a very practical consideration: how to get both her and her car back home since she could no longer safely fly in an airplane and he had to drive some medical equipment her way to go get her, but she already had a car there. That was minor in one way, but maddening that a family should have to figure out how to transport a woman within months of death from a “guaranteed cure” in another country back home, hours and hours of driving, while keeping her pain at a minimum.
If I recall correctly, she finally elected to drive back across the country herself, against the wishes of her whole family. She was a fighter, but I don’t know that I would have recommended that long drive as a safe course of action for someone in her condition. It wasn’t long after that that she was in a wheelchair, on oxygen, and receiving multiple other treatments to keep her as comfortable as possible. But she left as she went, a woman with a cancer she had no human way to survive. Only she returned poorer, since she had undergone expensive treatment that insurance wouldn’t pay for. I never met those “doctors” who treated her, but they made me quite angry. They gave her a false hope, and with it took much of her money and took her away from her family for a few of her last months on earth.

Cheryl, yes, we all know that, but Kaitlyn is looking for any thread to hang onto. It won’t amount to anything as she has absolutely no money.

Kare, if it is only something she can dream of and talk about, then I guess there is no harm letting her imagine it. Yet . . . even better . . . she will soon be with Jesus! I think too often we avoid such conversation, even with the dying, lest it turn someone’s heart away from us when they could still be “fighting.” And for most of us, we must wait and we are supposed to be engaged here. But her next move is to glory. It may be through more pain and suffering, and it cuts short hopes and dreams here, but she gets to take the early exit ramp before all the delays ahead. Mexico is a false hope; heaven is a real one.

Of course, I’m making an assumption there, that she is a believer. But if she isn’t, all the more reason to engage her thoughts not in false hopes but in eternity!
