154 years ago today, John Pelham had only 3 months to live. However, on that cold day in Fredericksburg, the young Alabaman established himself as the classic example of Southern gallantry. Longstreet’s corp decimated the Yankees who had looted and vandalized the town on the previous day. Pelham and his two guns humiliated them.
Now that transgender soldiers are allowed to serve openly in the Army, the service is rolling out its transition policy for those who hope to serve as their preferred gender.
The Defense Department lifted its ban on transgender service members in July, and, with that announcement, required each service to put together new policies and procedures for troops who want to transition and stay in uniform by October.
I see this as and official position. I can’t imagine how it works in practic. Have you ever lived in a barracks? Is a woman who identifies as a man going to bunk with a bunch of guys? Is she going to shower and latrine with them? What about thse special days?
Is a man who identifies as a woman going to be allowed in a female barracks. He will have an interesting life. If he survives it.
This is all a bunch of nonsense. I suggest we let this bunch of idiots work it out naturally. No way it’s going towork.
Just weird. You can’t defeat nature.
People talk about rights of homosexuals. Nobody talks about what they do. I can imagine a man doing it in a woman’s barracks.
The US deteriorated steadily from the day Reagan left office. By 2016, it’s major institutions and leading presidential candidates were completely insane.
Rex Tillerson is an excellent choice for Secretary of State. He will bring to the post remarkable and broad international experience; a deep understanding of the global economy; and a belief in America’s special role in the world.
I know Rex as a successful business man and a patriot. He will represent the interests and the values of the United States with resolve and commitment. And he will lead the exceptional men and women of the State Department with respect and dedication.
I look forward to supporting Rex through the confirmation process and then welcoming him to the family of Secretaries of State.

“The federal agency that handles deportations spent more than $100 million of its money over the last few years to ferry illegal immigrant children around the U.S., according to calculations by a watchdog group that says the cash could have been better spent on enforcement.
Government figures obtained by the Immigration Reform Law Institute through an open records request show Immigration and Customs Enforcement spent an average of $665 per juvenile in 2014, with most of that going to the cost of airplane flights to shuttle the children among government agencies, to relatives here in the U.S. or back to their home countries — if they’re deported.
At that rate, ICE will spend about $4.5 million flying just the children nabbed at the border in October, and somewhere north of $100 million since the surge began in earnest in 2014.”

“Instead of being sent back, they are shuttled among various federal agencies until they are eventually delivered to their parents, other relatives or sponsor families — where they often disappear into the shadows.
According to statistics from the Senate Homeland Security Committee, only 3 percent of the more than 120,000 caught over the last few years have been sent home as of June.”
Has there ever been a more entertaining transition than Donald Trump’s? I can’t recall one. Nor is it surprising that Trump has entertained us so thoroughly. …
… It’s standard human comedy material being presented to us by a master entertainer in the Age of Twitter.

I notice MSNBC and CNN aren’t carrying it.’
I have it on mute. I don’t want to hear it.

Chas, liberals believe that if we have to make 99% miserable to make 1% happy, that is progress.

There’s a hand-written sign that’s been hanging from one of our local freeway overpasses ever since the November election:

Thinking of Pelham reminds me of the time Will Farley captured a wagon full of exotic treasure from the Ys.

Maybe Cuba would take him. Cubans are used to a leader giving never ending speeches.
