That nails it. It has been subtle, but real.
I confess that I had not heard of Bannon until now — I liked Brietbart news when it was still under the founder but backed away in recent years, I almost never check it anymore.
Post above has some thoughts about his appointment as an adviser to Trump (which, I’m sure you’ve seen, has caused much criticism, including from some conservatives.
Bannon has been a leader among the Nitwit Right – that group that focuses and screams about what should be non-issues, but fails to support Paul Ryan on substantive reforms.
To Bannon’s credit, he did join Trump’s other close advisors in urging Trump not to begin his Gettysburg speech with 15 minutes of threats to sue the women who confirmed the accuracy of his sexual assault confession. I also would select Bannon over Sidney Blumenthal who was probably our other choice on Election Day to be Counselor to the President.
I do not know Bannon (or Preibus) but Trump has deliberately chosen to have both an establishment oriented voice *and* a strong anti-establishment voice as his closest advisors. I think that will be helpful in developing the best ideas to implement his agenda. I see it as a wise move. We’ll see how it works out. :–)
Breitbart has been a bit bombastic and skewed for my taste (kind of like the Blaze), but the recent performance of the NYT and WaPo is making them look much more mainstream. :–(
False, Misleading, Clickbait-y, and Satirical “News” Sources
Below is a list of fake, false, regularly misleading, and/or otherwise questionable “news” organizations, as well as organizations that regularly use clickbait-y headlines and descriptions, that are commonly shared on facebook and other social media sites. Some of these websites rely on “outrage” by using distorted headlines and decontextualized or dubious information in order to generate likes, shares, and profits.
Other sources on this list are purposefully fake with the intent of satire/comedy, which can offer important critical commentary on politics and society, but they are regularly shared as actual/literal news. I’m including them here, for now, because 1.) they have the potential to perpetuate misinformation based on different audience (mis)interpretations and 2.) to make sure anyone who reads a story by The Onion, for example, understands its purpose. If you think this is unnecessary, please see Literally Unbelievable.
Notes: Again, not all of these sources are always or inherently problematic, neither are all of them fake or false, but I’m including them here at this time because they should be considered in conjunction with other news/info sources due to their tendency to rely on clickbait headlines or facebook descriptions etc.

Tips for analyzing news sources:
Avoid websites that end in “lo” ex: Newslo (above). These sites specialize in taking a piece of accurate information and then packaging that information with other false or misleading “facts.”
Watch out for websites that end in “.com.co” as they are often fake versions of real news sources.
Watch out if known/reputable news sites are not also reporting on the story. Sometimes lack of coverage is the result of corporate media bias and other factors, but there should typically be more than one source reporting on a topic or event.
Odd domain names generally equal odd and rarely truthful news.
Lack of author attribution may, but not always, signify that the news story is suspect and requires verification.
Some news organizations are also letting bloggers post under the banner of particular news brands; however, many of these posts do not go through the same editing process (ex: BuzzFeed Community Posts, Kinja blogs, Forbes blogs).
Check the “About Us” tab on websites or look up the website on Snopes or Wikipedia for more information about the source.
Bad web design and use of ALL CAPS can also be a sign that the source you’re looking at should be verified and/or read in conjunction with other sources.
If the story makes you REALLY ANGRY it’s probably a good idea to keep reading about the topic via other sources to make sure the story you read wasn’t purposefully trying to make you angry (with potentially misleading or false information) in order to generate shares and ad revenue.
It’s always best to read multiple sources of information to get a variety of viewpoints and media frames. Some sources not yet included in this list (although their practices at times may qualify them for addition), such as The Daily Kos, The Huffington Post, and Fox News, vacillate between providing important, legitimate, problematic, and/or hyperbolic news coverage, requiring readers and viewers to verify and contextualize information with other sources.
Bio: I am an assistant professor of communication & media, and this list started as a resource for my students, who are learning about journalism/social media/media literacy.

Update 3: Some people are asking which news sources I trust, and all I can say is that I read/watch/listen very widely, from mainstream, corporate owned sources (The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes) as well as The Atlantic, National Public Radio, and various local and alternative sources with different political perspectives, some of which are included on this list. The problem: Even typically reliable sources, whether mainstream or alternative, corporate or nonprofit, rely on particular media frames to report stories and select stories based on different notions of newsworthiness. The best thing to do in our contemporary media environment is to read/watch/listen widely and often, and to be critical of the sources we share and engage with on social media.
On the LifeSite Blog link @ 10:33, if what that blog writer says is true, then Christians voted for Trump for all the wrong reasons. If Trump was a way of getting back at all those who had insulted and isolated Christians, then Christians have taken the wrong course. If a vote for Trump was a vote for revenge on the left then Christians have ignored the instructions of Christ. Those instructions were to turn the other cheek, to go the second mile, to give away your shirt as well as your coat when you are sued, to love your enemies, to bless those who curse you, to do good to those who hate you, and to rejoice when you are persecuted for doing right.
Roscuro, I don’t read the link that way at all. It’s not about revenge or “getting back” at the left. It’s about stopping the erosion of liberty. Just because we are instructed in how to respond to persecution doesn’t mean we have to vote for it.

As a Christian I didn’t vote for Trump to get back at anyone. I think we should take a giant step back from the direction we’ve been pursuing for the last 30 years, and Trump seemed the most likely candidate to do that.

That conveys a picture of anger and vengeance in the motivation of Christian voters.
Let’s distinguish between anger and vengeance. Certainly the blog writer described anger, and I think he describes good reasons for anger. But I don’t see vengeance in it.
When Jesus overturned the moneychangers’ tables in the temple, was that anger and vengeance? Was he “getting back” at them?
Kevin, the Roman government of Christ’s time regularly exasperated the Jews, violated their religious convictions, and considered the Jews to be second class. Christ, and Paul and Peter in their epistles, did nothing to oppose the Romans and even encouraged submission to them, much, in Christ’s case, to the disappointment of the Jews. The people who Christ shook up were the religious leaders, those who would be the equivalent of our pastors and elders, who were religious hypocrites, false teachers, and greedy of gain. Christ’s overturning of the money tables took place in the temple, not in the house of the tax gatherers.
There are good writers at a number of sites. Matt Walsh is one of the best young conservative Christian writers. He writes for The Blaze. Ben Shapiro is a very talented conservative writer and speaker. He wrote for Breitbart before leaving after a dispute with Bannon.
After several years of decline, National Review reestablished itself as the best source for intelligent conservatism. Its special issue “Against Trump” was a great collection of the various reasons conservatives should not support Trump in the primaries. In the general election, NR was tough on the liberalism, ignorance and character flaws of both Trump and Clinton.
I welcome more sources. The Washington Post and the New York Times have always been very liberal. They now lack the money or intelligence to assign reporters who are capable of understanding complex issues to report on those issues. The Judith Miller debacle during the 2003 Iraq War was the most obvious example. I have not read anything good on healthcare from any of the major news organizations. My research on healthcare has all come from studying the healthcare systems of other countries and comparing them to our own.
Some of the best economic writing comes from the libertarian Cato Institute.
Rosco, where I see anger and vengeance is from the left. Destroying a small business instead of going two blocks down to another business, refusing to even discuss a third gender neutral bathroom option, trying to regulate crisis pregnancy centers out of existence, trying to force NUNS to pay for contraption. They have gone from asking for tolerance to demanding affirmation to forcing participation. It is a get in line or be destroyed mentality. And I can say from personal experience that it was more fear than anger. People were honestly afraid that they would have to choose between their faith and their ability to feed their children. Trump may not help but Hillary was guaranteed to hurt.
kBells, I saw that as a problem, too, honestly. Christians are not supposed to act out of fear. We certainly don’t look to an ungodly man to be our “savior” when we are afraid. I think this election cycle brought out a lot of interesting things that pastors should be paying attention to–including that very reaction of fear.

Roscuro, I don’t read the link that way at all. It’s not about revenge or “getting back” at the left. It’s about stopping the erosion of liberty. Just because we are instructed in how to respond to persecution doesn’t mean we have to vote for it.

Its special issue “Against Trump” was a great collection of the various reasons conservatives should not support Trump in the primaries. In the general election, NR was tough on the liberalism, ignorance and character flaws of both Trump and Clinton.
I welcome more sources. The Washington Post and the New York Times have always been very liberal. They now lack the money or intelligence to assign reporters who are capable of understanding complex issues to report on those issues. The Judith Miller debacle during the 2003 Iraq War was the most obvious example. I have not read anything good on healthcare from any of the major news organizations. My research on healthcare has all come from studying the healthcare systems of other countries and comparing them to our own.

Rosco, where I see anger and vengeance is from the left. Destroying a small business instead of going two blocks down to another business, refusing to even discuss a third gender neutral bathroom option, trying to regulate crisis pregnancy centers out of existence, trying to force NUNS to pay for contraption. They have gone from asking for tolerance to demanding affirmation to forcing participation. It is a get in line or be destroyed mentality. And I can say from personal experience that it was more fear than anger. People were honestly afraid that they would have to choose between their faith and their ability to feed their children. Trump may not help but Hillary was guaranteed to hurt.

kBells, I saw that as a problem, too, honestly. Christians are not supposed to act out of fear. We certainly don’t look to an ungodly man to be our “savior” when we are afraid. I think this election cycle brought out a lot of interesting things that pastors should be paying attention to–including that very reaction of fear.
