Whether it’s the third debate, the latest polls, the Al Smith dinner or a feeling that they’ve finally slayed the Trump dragon, many pundits are now portraying the billionaire’s plight as Mission Impossible.
I’m always more cautious than that. I’ve seen too many elections where a candidate bounced back after being written off, the polls were off, or some unexpected event moved the needle.
Is Clinton now the favorite to reach 270 electoral votes, or, according to some forecasts, much more? Sure.
But it’s not over. …

Kristof — I haven’t read him a lot, and I appreciate that he points out not all “evangelicals” are on the Trump page, but, yes, he does come off pretty condescending (and clearly *liking* some Christian social issues — feed the poor, etc. — while not others — gay marriage, etc. — 🙂 ) How predictable.
The term “evangelical” itself has become so misunderstood (in part thanks to those who profess the label). Maybe Russell Moore is right, it might be time to simply retire the term when it comes to speaking about social issues.
I loathe the term “evangelical”. It has become synonymous with knuckle dragging, snake handling, backwoods, illiterate, redneck, wife beater, mousy little woman, swamp dweller.

You knew GOD was in control… Isn’t it hard to remember? And NOT get caught up in it all?
Oh, I don’t know, Kim. I think there are many Christians who think if they are just winsome enough or not pushy, their message will be more accepted. I am not sure why anyone thinks this, since Jesus was more loving than any human can be and he was hanged on a cross. Embracing politics can certainly be a problem. OTOH, we live in a place where we do get to vote and, in fact, it is a duty for decent and good citizens. It is a tightrope to walk for those of us out of the spot light. It is even more so for those in it.
Those ‘leaders’ do not even all agree with one another, let alone have all ‘evangelical’ Christians agree with them.
To say evangelicals do not help the poor and want closed borders is questionable. To want people to come in legally and not agree with every government program is what is often meant by those phrases. Puts me in a questioning mind about the individual’s opinion.
I do always find it interesting that some politicians are free to go into churches and preach their political message while others are not. To think that liberal Christians or others are somehow ‘disconnected’ from government is questionable, at any rate.
I do believe in grace to all and not insisting on gray areas, scripturally. Good food for thought, at any rate.

Campaign finance records show Mr. McAuliffe’s political-action committee donated $467,500 to the 2015 state Senate campaign of Dr. Jill McCabe, who is married to Andrew McCabe, now the deputy director of the FBI.
The Virginia Democratic Party, over which Mr. McAuliffe exerts considerable control, donated an additional $207,788 worth of support to Dr. McCabe’s campaign in the form of mailers, according to the records. That adds up to slightly more than $675,000 to her candidacy from entities either directly under Mr. McAuliffe’s control or strongly influenced by him. The figure represents more than a third of all the campaign funds Dr. McCabe raised in the effort.”

“guilt free” makes me think it is also “grace free,” which maybe is why we see so little grace coming from Trump.
Only those who know their own sin — and the seriousness of it — can extend grace to others.

Trump’s attempts at public religion have been awkward, at best.
He said he does not ask for forgiveness and “does not bring God into that picture” when he makes mistakes.
