“The FBI and local police are investigating how at least 19 dead Virginians were recently re-registered to vote in this critical swing state.
One case came to light after relatives of a deceased man received a note congratulating him for registering, Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst said Thursday.
“His family members were very distraught,” said Garst, who confirmed the existence of the FBI and police investigation but said she could provide few details because the case is ongoing.
All 19 were initially registered as voters in the Shenandoah Valley city of Harrisonburg, Virginia, which is roughly 130 miles from Washington, D.C., although a clerk double-checking the entries later raised questions about one. She recognized the name of Richard Allen Claybrook Sr., who died in 2014 at age 87, because his son is a well-known local judge. She happened to recall that the judge’s father had died.
“He was a retired Fairfax County elementary school principal and had fought in World War II,” said his son, retired Harrisonburg General District Court Judge Richard Allen Claybrook Jr. “So our family is very disgusted that they would pick his name because he was such a law-abiding citizen devoted to public service.”
All of the forms had been submitted by a private group that was working to register voters on the campus of James Madison University, according to the Harrisonburg registrar’s office. The group was not identified. No charges have been filed.”

Republican Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions asked Simon Henshaw, principal deputy assistant secretary at the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migrants of the U.S. Department of State, “do you make any inquiry about practices that we reject in the United States, like female genital mutilation?”
Sessions added, “Do you say, ‘do you believe in that and when you come to the United States will you comply with the laws of the United States on that kind of question?’”
The State Department official replied, “On all questions, we make it clear to refugees that we are a nation of laws and that they need to comply with our laws.”

“The General Accounting Office, the government’s non-partisan watchdog agency, issued a ruling today holding that the Obama administration’s diversion of billions of dollars from the United States Treasury to insurers selling individual policies on the ACA Exchanges was illegal. The GAO joins the Congressional Research Service, another non-partisan agency, in finding that these payments, which the Obama administration has insisted are lawful, are in fact completely unauthorized and inappropriate. For what it is worth, the GAO opinion is also largely consistent with views I have expressed on several occasions (here and here).
Here’s what GAO concluded after 12 pages of careful legal analysis about section 1341 of the Affordable Care Act and the behavior of Health and Human Services (HHS):
In light of the foregoing analysis, we conclude that HHS lacks authority to ignore the statute’s directive to deposit amounts from collections under the transitional reinsurance program to the Treasury and instead make deposits in the Treasury only if its collections reach the amounts for reinsurance payments specified in section 1341. The agency is not authorized to prioritize collections in this manner. The agency must give effect to the extent possible to all of section 1341, and, to do so, is required to collect and deposit amounts for the Treasury, regardless of whether its collections fall short of the amounts specified in statute for reinsurance payments. HHS may not use amounts collected for the Treasury to make reinsurance payments.
The GAO ruling could result in yet more trouble for insurer’s selling policies on the Exchange and criminal investigations of those who authorized the illegal payments. The Obama administration has already spent $16.2 billion on the program for 2014 and 2015 and another $5 billion is scheduled to be spent in 2016, at which point the program is supposed to expire. Of the money spent thus far, only $500 million (3.1%) has been sent to the Treasury; 96.9% has been sent to insurers. Under the GAO’s interpretation of the law (section 1341 of the Affordable Care Act), no matter what amount the government collected for this program, 20% of the total belongs to the Treasury. The GAO found that the language of the statute was crystal clear and that the Obama administration’s efforts to get around that language were “unpersuasive” and “internally inconsistent.” (That’s legalese for nonsense). Thus, insurers may have an obligation to return $2.74 billion to the federal government for 2014 and 2015. That’s about 17.4% of what insurers received during that time frame. Moreover, insurers may be getting considerably less than they hoped for in 2016.”

Ms. Ochoa said stripping Judicial Watch of media status violated several agency policies and things got worse when the GSA denied an appeal by the group.
The same person who ruled on the initial request also ruled on the appeal, “contrary to GSA procedures,” the inspector general said.
Judicial Watch ended up suing over the request, the agency finally agreed to waive all fees and even ended up paying Judicial Watch $750 as part of the settlement.”

The whistleblower, whose identity is not being revealed for fear of retaliation, complained last month to the VA’s inspector general about the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital’s handling of veterans’ remains in cases where families have not come forward to claim the body. The complaint singled out Christopher Wirtjes, chief of Patient Administrative Services, saying “The Chief of PAS has the funds available, yet has no sense of urgency to lay the veteran to rest.”
Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., whose office also received the complaint along with emails, is now calling for Wirtjes’ firing and in a statement, slammed the hospital – located in the Western suburbs of Chicago — over its recent history of controversies.
“Hines VA — the hospital that has been overrun with cockroaches and mold and left vets waiting for care for months on secret wait lists, has reached a new low in the treatment of our veterans,” Kirk told FoxNews.com. “We now have reports of bodies being left to decompose in the morgue for months on end.”
The whistleblower, who has spoken with Kirk’s office, described a “horrible issue” at the hospital in the letter to the IG: “Some veteran’s remains have been left in our hospital morgue for 45 days or more until they are stacked to capacity at times.”

Michelle, I once got into a discussion on another Christian blog about that whole idea, as they were saying churches needed to be more gender inclusive in their language. Being interested in language and its history and development, I found out that the generic use of he in the third person, for both genders comes from Old English (the language, now unintelligible to us, spoken by the Angles and the Saxons), where the word for woman was wifman and was in the masculine gender. This meant that the proper third personal singular pronoun to refer to a woman was, in fact, ‘he’ (‘he’ is a survival of Old English in modern English). Thus, it really was generic. I said that as a woman, I would have no trouble being called a foreman, or a chairman, as that placed me on an equal level with any male counterparts. It took the longest time for them to see my point.
And really, Bill Clinton’s ‘women’ as an issue? Get over it, that was him, not Hillary (who many probably see as more of a victim, willing though she was in exchange for the political power the marriage brought to her).
Did she deny (“enable” some say) it all at the time? Yeah, but how does going down this road in any way benefit Trump? It doesn’t. It lends to the view already out there that he’s petty, mean & borderline unhinged. It’s his own destruction he’s creating, and maybe that’s a good thing. I know his character is bad, but I also wonder about his stability.

Kim @ 2:45 It’s a long article and I didn’t read all. But what concerns me is: What authority to COJ (Court of the Judiciary) have and who gave it that authority? Does NC have a Court of the Judiciary? Never heard of it. It’s not on this year’s ballot.
Point is: If it’s a federal court, that is an ominous occurrence. In the book, a man such as Moore would be imprisoned for hate speech.
But a federal court should have no jurisdiction over the makeup of an Alabama court.
The Clinton marriage was/is bizarre. The problem with Trump raising the issue now is that his behavior was very similar to Bill’s.
The main differences were that Bill snuck around while Trump committed adultery openly, encouraged others to do so and made sexual comparisons between his spouse and his then current mistress in the press. Ivana may well have been an innocent spouse. Trump was cheating on her with Marla Maples while they were still married and he was cheating on Maples with Melania while they were still married.
Trump seems to not comprehend that by raising Bill’s misbehavior in order to take the focus off the debate, he is opening the door to who knows how many stories from his ex-mistresses whom he probably dropped because of their weight.
What Trump lacks is a good helpmate who is not afraid of being divorced in favor of wife #4. Most effective political wives would have taken a hammer to his Blackberry months ago. Had that happened he would probably have a lead right now.

Michelle, I once got into a discussion on another Christian blog about that whole idea, as they were saying churches needed to be more gender inclusive in their language. Being interested in language and its history and development, I found out that the generic use of he in the third person, for both genders comes from Old English (the language, now unintelligible to us, spoken by the Angles and the Saxons), where the word for woman was wifman and was in the masculine gender. This meant that the proper third personal singular pronoun to refer to a woman was, in fact, ‘he’ (‘he’ is a survival of Old English in modern English). Thus, it really was generic. I said that as a woman, I would have no trouble being called a foreman, or a chairman, as that placed me on an equal level with any male counterparts. It took the longest time for them to see my point.

And really, Bill Clinton’s ‘women’ as an issue? Get over it, that was him, not Hillary (who many probably see as more of a victim, willing though she was in exchange for the political power the marriage brought to her).
Did she deny (“enable” some say) it all at the time? Yeah, but how does going down this road in any way benefit Trump? It doesn’t. It lends to the view already out there that he’s petty, mean & borderline unhinged. It’s his own destruction he’s creating, and maybe that’s a good thing. I know his character is bad, but I also wonder about his stability.
Argh.

The punishment effectively removes Moore from office without the nine-member Alabama Court of the Judiciary officially ousting him. Given his age, he will not be able to run for chief justice again under state law.
Moore was found to have encouraged probate judges to deny marriage licenses to gay couples six months after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that everyone has a fundamental right to marry in all 50 states

Kim @ 2:45 It’s a long article and I didn’t read all. But what concerns me is: What authority to COJ (Court of the Judiciary) have and who gave it that authority? Does NC have a Court of the Judiciary? Never heard of it. It’s not on this year’s ballot.
Point is: If it’s a federal court, that is an ominous occurrence. In the book, a man such as Moore would be imprisoned for hate speech.
But a federal court should have no jurisdiction over the makeup of an Alabama court.

The Clinton marriage was/is bizarre. The problem with Trump raising the issue now is that his behavior was very similar to Bill’s.
The main differences were that Bill snuck around while Trump committed adultery openly, encouraged others to do so and made sexual comparisons between his spouse and his then current mistress in the press. Ivana may well have been an innocent spouse. Trump was cheating on her with Marla Maples while they were still married and he was cheating on Maples with Melania while they were still married.
Trump seems to not comprehend that by raising Bill’s misbehavior in order to take the focus off the debate, he is opening the door to who knows how many stories from his ex-mistresses whom he probably dropped because of their weight.

What Trump lacks is a good helpmate who is not afraid of being divorced in favor of wife #4. Most effective political wives would have taken a hammer to his Blackberry months ago. Had that happened he would probably have a lead right now.

Re my 4:20 comment, both Barbara Bush and Laura Bush were invaluable assets to their husbands. Both could deliver bad news and deliver it in such a way that their husbands would not repeat certain mistakes.

I see the Bill Clinton infidelities as simply very old news. I don’t really care (we know this about them already) and I don’t think the voters will really care.
Besides, as has been pointed out, Trump hardly has room to criticize on that front.
I can’t figure out what he’s thinking, he’s acting like an adolescent and it’s just embarrassing. Every time I think he seems to be “getting it,” he slips into one of these bizarre tirades.
I know his advisers are trying to reign him in, without luck.
I really don’t care about a former Miss Universe and whether she did or didn’t make a sex tape or gain weight. Sheesh.
I mean, seriously?
He should be taking the high road and ignoring the bait that Clinton keeps throwing out. Instead, he can’t resist and only makes it worse. Former Miss Universe is getting more than her 15 minutes of fame, thanks to him.
