Two very interesting essays (written to Christians by a Christian) in of all places the Huffington post. My husband mentioned the first one and then I found the link to the second:

After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

The press is finally doing some real journalism on Trump — they no longer look at him as a good way of selling papers and airtime but rather as just an other political candidate. And the results are in;
— he is charging the GOP and the Secret Service for the use of his planes, hotels, and the Trump Tower (the latter is beautiful, he’s renting his own tower at triple the usual rate for his own campaign but charges the GOP)
— he has numerous ties, including monetary, to Russian oligarchs
— he’s used his charity for personal gain including paying the IRS
— he took 150, 000 dollars donated to his charity, donated it to a police fund and then charged the police dept over 250, 000 to host a gala in his name (not too mention using the charity to buy stuff at the auction including a Tim Tebow football he keeps at his home).
Hopefully more people see him as the cheap con man he is. I understand not liking Hilary but voting for Trump is not any better.
I am not saying Trump is good. But Trump has to be better. And
Trump doesn’t think the Iranians are our friends.
He doesn’t think the police are our enemies.
He ain’t Hillary.
As a father who raised his daughter through her adolescent years by himself, I’ve become far more aware of teen girl self image, sexism, etc. Cheryl’s link contains a video in which people hold t-shirts stating; “Trump that Bitch” and “Hilary Sucks but not like Monica” or call her “bitch” or “whore”. (Sorry AJ, I usually self censor when I post here but I think this issue demands strict accuracy) Now you can’t assert with certainty that these supporters accurately reflect Trump’s own views but you can at least expect him to publicly disassociate himself and his campaign from such rhetoric. In compassion, McCain had the class and dignity to correct his supporters and demand they respect his opponent.
I’m sure the latest Clinton ad is purposely edited but given his lack of criticism to some of his supporters its difficult not to see this ad as an accurate reflection of Trump.
Sorry Chas — I can’t for the life of me see Trump as better than Hilary. For me their economic policies are not much different — lackeys for the rich and large corporations. In foreign affairs I see Hilary as a war monger but Trump as unstable and easily bribed, not to mentioned easily confused. In both cases, neither are acceptable. However, Trump has made hate, fear, sexism and the general ugliness of human nature acceptable or at least tolerated in the public sphere and for that reason only has no business being a leader.
For the last several weeks I have found myself rooting for Trump to catch up. I can’t tell who is worse, but if Trump wins we will be able to compare him to Obama. Most of us agree that Hillary would basically be Obama’s third term. If Trump turns out to be better than Obama, then the Trumpkins were right. If he turns out to be worse than Obama, then the Never Trumpers were right. If Hillary wins, we will never know.
Having admitted to rooting for Trump, I agree with everything HRW said today about his lack of character and his horrible comments about women and others. It is astounding that the Dems were able to find someone who is liberal and whose character may be as bad (though not as outlandish) as Trump’s.
If Hilary wins, she’s not ours, no need to apologize for her. If Trump wins, at least I can say, “I take no credit for him; I didn’t vote for him. No, he’s not a Republican.”
I am not convinced that Trump is better than Hillary. And she’s really a low bar; if he can’t hurdle that, then I can’t imagine how I can possibly convince my conscience to vote for him. I understand that not everyone is at the same place (hey, I voted for several presidential candidates other people called RINOs), but this one doesn’t have the basic character needed for any office, certainly not any high office.
I’d vote for him as dog catcher only if it was the best way to keep him out of something else. He’s not remotely qualified, and he’s scary in whole different ways than Hillary, but no less scary than she is. It would be like choosing Hitler or Stalin–no thanks, I will not vote for either. I don’t care that voting for one is a vote against the other–at some point, it’s simply too close to a vote FOR one of them, and I can’t do that. If Jimmy Carter were running against Hillary, I might be able to hold my nose and vote for him, and if I could simply vote “no” to both I would. But I can’t vote “yes” for either, not even to vote against the other.
If morality and decency were the most important qualities for the presidency, Carter should be your first choice. However, you need more than that — Bill Clinton had very few morals but was a good president, same with Eisenhower, the Roosevelts, etc.

I’m not voting for a pastor, just a president. I hold no illusions that Trump isn’t exactly what some think he is, crude, a bit rude, and often vague in his answers. Nor do I think he’s somehow a savior. I already have one, I don’t need another. However it’s a race between 2 people, both whom I’ve acknowledged numerous times are deeply flawed and lacking, on issues of ideology, morality, and honesty. But these are the choices. And yes, I still think Clinton is worse, and would only continue us down the road we’re on. At least with Trump, there is the possibility of better, even if only incrementally, and not on every issue. Because I think this, and am realistic enough to realize that if a vote isn’t for Trump, by default it benefits Hillary, I’ll vote for him.
The HuffPo piece was about as condescending as it gets. Exactly what I’d expect. First, it’s poorly written. My 14 year old writes better than that.
Attempting to make folks feel ashamed, unchristian, and the like will not win many to his argument. Argument might be a stretch, it was really just a list of one liners. Also assuming people to be stupid and not smart enough to see what he thinks is obvious, will also not win folks over. Talking down rarely works on people.
In politics I look for who most closely believes as I do. In some cases I’m forced to pick a non-christian, or the lesser of 2 evils. While I will not vote for a pro-choice, anti-christian, anti-military, or open borders candidate, I occasionally pick one who, while I dislike them, they’re still better than their opponents, often because of one or more of the issues I listed above. This is such an occasion. Warts and all, and there are many, it’s still better than Clinton. These are the only 2 real choices. While some may choose a protest vote, I choose not to. I respect their right to do so, and they need to respect mine.

My wife likes to listen to Jeffress on the radio. Apart from his Trump addiction, he is a fine preacher. I now tease her about listening to Trump Church.
As Christians, we know where we stand and where (and to whom) our first allegiance lies. We know that the fate of the world — and our nation — lie in the hands of those the Lord has chosen, for whatever reasons he has.
As citizens of a secular nation in which we and our families and neighbors live. we are given the opportunity to participate in voting for our leaders. For the most part, we (should) do that (knowing full well none of them rise to the standards we’d ideally wish).
Our culture has spiraled of late (though that, too, is the Lord’s will) and has led to the 2 candidates we have before us.
But I find myself lacking the impulse to “judge” this time around. I will opt (most likely) to not mark that top spot for either candidate. But I “hear” and understand those who choose to do otherwise.
These are extraordinary (in an unfortunate way) circumstances. It’s just not easy for any of us.

I think the key is to hold this all “lightly.”
