  7. Hello to those with the Wanderers spirit! May all your times be good whatever and whenever, and that whatever was sincere and not used in the snarky modern tone.

    I put a sign, FREE FIREWOOD, on a pile of wood by the road yesterday and it was gone before dark when I went to check on it. Someone will need to split it but my brother had cut it into fireplace lengths.

    Brother drove our family’s old truck to get his firewood. I helped my dad pick out that truck when I was in my twenties. I am in my sixties now. Somehow my brother keeps it running. From his place to my home is about an hour, the longest trip he has made in the truck in quite sometime. My brother was very appreciative of the salmon patties I cooked for our lunch and said they tasted like something he’d get out because of the good seasoning. Our mom cooked salmon patties, but they were not seasoned with anything other than salt and pepper. I use Nature’s Seasons, celery seed, and dill seed.

  8. Happy Birthday 6 and yest today is my Baby Girl’s birthday. I ordered her cake yesterday. It is an 8″ round with white butter cream icing and her initials in script on the top CCC. I am also paying a $234 traffic violation for “improper lane usage”. She switched into the left lane so that she could get into the left turn lane to make a turn. It seems she must have cut too close in front of the vehicle (an ambulance that was not on a run) that was already in the left lane. I have had two attorneys and a policeman tell me that she is being watched. Police sit on the side of the road and run tag numbers. They can see that she has already gotten other tickets so they pull her over. With the new body cams they can’t just let her go so once again she if fined. The only way to stop this is to get a different car with a different tag number and have it in my last name. Welcome to Small Town, South Alabama where the only way to support the microscopic municipality is through policing the major north/south route through the county. It is an example of one wrong decision having ongoing consequences.

    On a lighter note, 19 years ago I had been awakened, got a shower, shaved my legs (this was extremely important) put on make up, pearls, and pin She was born at 10 minutes to 2pm thus keeping my regularly scheduled doctors appointment. 🙂 That was the last time Miss Priss cooperated.

  9. Oh Janice, that is almost worth a drive to Atlanta. No one eats salmon patties around me anymore. I love them, but Mr. P and BG won’t eat them and my best friend’s husband has had an aversion to them since an unfortunate cafeteria incident when he was in 4th grade. I haven’t made them in so long, I doubt mine would be any good. I just use salmon, saltine crackers, onion, salt, pepper, and egg. For some reason I like them best with Heinz 57. They must be served with English Peas with new potatoes, and pickled beets…..

  11. I love salmon patties too. But Elvera doesn’t make them anymore and everyone else, that includes you Kim, puts onions in them.
    UGH!

    As some of you might have gathered from previous quotes, I am reading through Jeremiah.
    Not an easy book to get through. So many warnings with no avail. Makes you feel sorry for Jeremiah at times. Such a strong message to be completely ignored. ( Ch. 36)
    But there is an interesting story in Ch. 35 about the Rechabites and the use of the words “for ever”.
    It seems that God sent Jeremiah to the Rechobites to deliberately temp them to drink some wine. They said, “Nothing doing. Jonadab, the son of our father (That’s their brother they’re talking abut if I’m reading this correctly.) told us to drink no wine, nor build houses. (etc.) Not you. Not your sons. for ever”
    That means that a brother in a family has, for some unknown reason, proclaimed an eternal command. That also means that, if obeyed, the descendants of Rechobib do not drink nor live in condos. Forever, he said. That means you, bubba.
    NOW. Because they didn’t yield to the temptation of Jeremiah. (God does not tempt. That’s what I have heard. I don’t know the scripture to back that.) Anyhow. Because they didn’t yield, God said there would be someone from the family of Jonadab standing before God at this time. Maybe a seminary professor, maybe a missionary,, maybe a preacher in a mega church or a small country church. Not necessarily of the same line throughout. But someone from the family is ministering somewhere now.
    That’s what the Bible says.

    Have I made a mistake somewhere?

  12. Kim, for my patties I use uncooked oatmeal, some low fat plain organic yogurt, an egg, the salmon, and seasonings. I like some chipped up onion or green pepper in them, too, but did not put that in yesterday. My brother had the patties on toasted rye bread on which he put some mayo. I had never had them with mayo. He did not want the honey baked beans I offered, but chose the chunk pineapple for his meal. It was what I had. Before making that, I had offered to take him to our new Long Horn for lunch. The old Long Horn burned down a few years ago.

  13. We had salmon patties (we call them “salmon cakes”) for dinner last night. With local tomatoes (sliced) and the best corn-on-the-cob that we’ve had all summer. Now I’m hungry.

  14. Time for breakfast! I like salmon patties, too, but the only person I ever knew who made them was my husband’s grandmother in Chicago. We had to go to Chicago if we wanted one. 🙂

    Curious how it’s so often the food you miss . . .

    Happy birthdays all around; next week is our birthday week–three in one week; my two daughter-in-laws have five in the same week! I don’t know what was going on around Christmas in these families . . .

    I double posted my blog today and am flummoxed because too many people have already read and commented on both for me to pull them, so double booked.

    (It’s frustrating because it does take time to write them and to “waste” two on the same day is galling . . . oh, well, the life of a tired writer).

    My to-do list for the week is only half complete, and that’s just the easy stuff. Lots of hard big stuff to do by . . . Monday?

    I just want to retire to the sidelines and read and relax.

    Maybe I’ll do that instead, on Sunday?

    Back to work this morning, followed by a quintet rehearsal.

    Which means I’ll be dead tired by Sunday afternoon. Sigh.

  15. Yum! Salmon patties. Good with onions, good without (though I’ve never had them that way). It has been years since Mrs. L made them. They make a good sandwich with mayo and pickles. I think I know what I’ll suggest for supper this weekend.

    But tomorrow for lunch I’ll be at a BBQ competition, sampling the good ribs the contestants make. It’s a fund raiser for the local free clinic. My doctor (and friend) gave me tickets, since he is one of the directors of the clinic.

  16. I realize that the records of Jewish heritage were destroyed when Jerusalem was destroyed. (Many, including scholars) say this occurred in 70 AD by the Romans. And it could be so, but the dispersion of the Jews didn’t rally occur until the rebellion in 135 AD.. when Jews were banished from Jerusalem. Nobody today knows if he/she is a descendant of Radchob. So the command wouldn’t apply. But the promise surely does. Presumably they are Christians because they are “standing before God”. Doing His work in some way. He said, “Forever”

  18. Chas, for you, I would take out some of the mixture before I added the onion and make them especially for you without onion. I am a pro at working around what someone doesn’t like or can’t eat. My stepmother chops up the tomato for her salads. I don’t eat raw tomatoes. I can eat her salad and never get a tomato in my mouth. My dad was allergic to shrimp and crab. I made gumbo all the way to the point you add the seafood and pulled some out for him. Mr. P doesn’t eat carrots. I can’t imagine who doesn’t eat carrots but there you have it.

    My husband doesn’t like salmon. Our younger daughter likes to push the limits when she cooks stuff, so she sometimes includes things that she knows aren’t his favorites. (Except peas. No one gives him peas, and no one gives me onions.) Anyway, a couple of weeks ago she served salmon patties. She bought them pre-made, so I don’t know what was in them, but he admitted they were quite good. (Funny thing is, I’m the only one of the three of us who ate all of mine.)

  21. That’s what we called the Kim, Onions, I don’t like. The only thing I’m allergic to is sea scallops. I won’t tell what happened to me when I ate them the only time I did. It was in the mess hall at Westover AFB.
    I’m not deathly allergic to anything else, that I know of. But I don’t eat sea food I don’t identify.

  23. The only seafood I have ever had any kind of reaction to was flounder. Last Saturday when we had a family fish fry my cousin separated some snapper and sent a plate up to me to make sure I didn’t get the flounder everyone else was having.
    Flounder is a nice, mild white fish, but I am not taking any chances.
    I just asked Mr. P if I made salmon croquettes for dinner would he eat them. No. My mouth is watering.I may do it anyway.

  24. I just had a tree fresh apple and a pear from the upper garden trees, ripened for a few more days by my computer.

    Salmon patties: crackers, eggs, salmon, pepper. MMmmm mmmmm. Lately I have just been having my canned salmon with spring mix and mustard.

    There is an ethanol free station in Hendersonville.
    You can get ethanol free gas in Winston Salem and Burlington.
    You can’t get ethanol free gas in Greensboro.

    We’re all over the map (in so many ways).

    I slept later than usual and my shower water wouldn’t drain (it did that the other day, too). I took the trap out (which was clear, I clean it out overtime I wash my hair which was yesterday). Anyway, that allowed it to drain, but I couldn’t see anything that had been in there that would have prevented it before. Everything’s quirky in there.

    I have stories to write on an undersea aquaculture farm for raising shellfish for food and an upcoming boat show today.

    This “farm” is experimenting with select breeding & flash-freezing using mussels (bred for more meat), for now, but will expand.

    The boat show story will clearly be easier.

    Tomorrow morning the foundation people arrive to see what’s up underneath the house. Hoping all the water down there has dried up since we fixed (we think) the drain leak a few weeks ago and I put the plastic up to prevent shower water from getting into and behind the wall liner at that ugly window.

    I mowed the first and easiest section of grass. I think all the toting of wood lately has me feeling a bit stronger. Now I have to wait for another section to be shaded.

    Art and I watched another movie last night (I know you are saying, “What’s new”). It was The Soldier which was like doing time travel. It involves a period in time when black men could not go to war when they served in the military. A regiment of black soldiers who were great ball players had their niche in the Deep South keeping the Army winning their ball games. Then their Sergeant is out on a drunk one night and gets shot dead. Everyone blames it on the KKK. A black officer/lawyer is sent from Washington to investigate, and the superiors on base do not want a black man doing the investigation. This was a superb story, and I will not give away what happens. The language was worse than most PG movies, but it was not gratuitous. Really, such a great movie.

    Good thing I edited because phunny phone changed KKK to MLK. Not phunny😦😠Groan & Grimace

  46. The sunset light has taken on a slightly different glow. I think the angle is changing for fall. 🙂

    I almost passed out earlier from the heat and humidity while mowing the thick grass. I still have the final section to do in a bit when it is slightly cooler.
    Miss Bosley must have gone to nursing school in a former life. She sniffed me for symptoms as I was lying on the kitchen floor until I felt better. She sat in the chair and wondered why I had taken over her spot on the floor. The grass is difficult to do when it gets so thick. The grass catcher gets full and heavy so it yakes lots of effort to push it. Maybe I should get a self propelled mower.

    I finally ordered a new soft side cat carrier. After talking with my friend, Karen, I decided to sign up for Amazon Prime. Does anyone here use their pantry option?

  47. Thank you for all the birthday greetings yesterday and today. 🙂 It’s been a nice day, though very rainy during my travels this morning. Bible study at 8:30, local music teacher’s group gathering at 9:30, a stop at a music store to pick up music I ordered for my student, then grocery shopping and home again. Hubby was already at work by the time I got home, but he finishes early on Friday, so perhaps we’ll do something tonight. Or just staying home would be okay, too. I think there might be some present-opening business yet to come. 🙂

    I enjoyed the music teacher’s meeting this morning. There was one other newcomer, and we received a warm and friendly welcome. I’m so excited that the state teacher’s convention for this year is being held next month at a hotel and convention center about 1/2 hour from my home! No hotel fees (and minimal travel expenses), plus new members/attendees get a steep discount — it will only cost me $55 for a 2-day session, whereas the regular rate is something like $140.

    Our local group met today at a coffee shop in that same city, and I had one of the most delicious drinks I’ve ever tasted — toasty warm chai with whole milk. Yum! And perfect for a 60-degree, rainy day. I’m going to have to find a reason to drive to that place again soon! (The group meets at different locations month by month; I don’t know when this location will come back around. I’m going to see to it that it’s sooner rather than later for me, personally.) 🙂

    I think that tea would go very well with the cake Janice baked for me up above. 🙂

  49. And today I am remembering a dear friend who went home to the Lord this past spring. Today would have been her birthday. Her husband preceded her in death by about 7 months. They were both in their 80s, and I remember with fondness their last picture in our church directory. They submitted their own photo, rather than having one done by the photographer that was hired. L & B were pictured outside with a beautiful blue sky and trees and other natural surroundings, and they were not looking at the camera, but beyond. The picture touched my heart when I first saw it — they were smiling, appearing to look beyond, not to what was there, but what was coming. They knew and loved their Lord and Savior so much, and the joy and anticipation were clearly evident on their faces.

    What a blessed privilege that God placed these people in my life. They exuded the love of Christ in a way I can’t begin to describe. Just beautiful.

  50. Never liked the salmon my dad caught on the Great Lakes. Was surprised to find I did like the grilled salmon my SIL caught in Alaska. It had been frozen, but was so fresh tasting. Grilled with soy sauce and brown sugar. Num.

  52. Such an entertaining thread today. Just had four folks come by to serve me by clipping my hedge, taking care of the wasps nest, and sweeping the cobwebs off the outside walls. it is the weekend for the tok pisin (trade language) family camp. As part of it they ask if anyone has any work that needs doing so that they can serve us. The overgrown hedge is now nice and neat and down to a lower height. It is actually a security measure that keeps rascals from hiding out.

    It’s been a good day. I confided in a friend recently that I’d always looked forward to birthdays, but this year I wasn’t. It’s been a hard year in a lot of ways, and I just wasn’t liking the idea a while back of having another birthday. Being a 50-something, overall, has been much tougher than I’d ever thought it would be. I don’t fully understand why it’s been my worst decade so far (and I’m not even halfway through it).

    But God’s brought a lot of blessing out of the trials, I realize, when I look close enough to see it. He’s been there all along.

    And I can praise Him. He’s my all in all.

    Blessings to you all. Back to the concert grand I go in less than a month, so I’ll be busy continuing to prepare for that and, of course, homeschooling, which overall got off to a pretty good start this week.

    I am thankful. God is good. May you all experience His faithfulness, as well.
