  1. School has started. There is a lot of work to do. I just wanted remind 6 Arrows of her promise that you would pray me through the audition for the school orchestra. The audition is this afternoon. This is for an elective course, but it would be nice to be able to do it. If I don’t get in the orchestra, I will be taking Latin for my elective, which is fine too; but this year is the only year I would have time for orchestra. I can always take Latin another year.

  7. I took Latin in high school. Those hour bus rides? That is when I studied for my Latin exams. I got A’s but I think it was all short term memory. Latin 3 showed that I did not really know it.

  9. Good Morning….we were awakened at 4 this morning by a pack of coyotes howling right under our window….not exactly my favorite manner in which to wake up!! It sounded like a siren at first…then I panicked thinking something was attacking my dog, who was sleeping out on the deck! I ran to the back door to find Lulah just laying there on her dog bed…then she jumped up and started growling at something below the deck…sheesh!!

    Mobile/Baldwin has a large Greek community. I have a friend from high school who is Greek. He eventually worked at the same company as I did. He was in International Sales and I was in domestic. His first language was Greek, second Spanish, third English–from there he taught himself Portuguese, French, Italian, and was working on Japanese.
    1. As I was training him one day I said, “I know it’s all Greek now, but eventually…..” I stopped and we laughed. (I don’t think I have ever used that phrase again)
    2. He and his sisters had their own language that was a mixture of Greek, Spanish, and English all in the same sentence. They understood; no one else did.

  15. I awoke to the sound of the cows in the field next to our land. It was comforting, however, being that I did have enough sleep and I love mornings. The farmers move the cows from field to field. They can be on either side of our property or down the road in two directions.

    There were some trees down on one of the roads we walk down. Someone had already cut them off and removed them and lots of branches from the road. There have been some hard hit areas from storms. We have been blessed to have it all go around us.

    As you have heard me say, my small group will be studying Isaiah this Fall. Bible Gateway lets you read several different versions of the Bible. I always love the beauty of the King Jame’s Version, we use NIV at church, I also like several other Bibles I have and sometimes just because I have heard it referenced I hop over and read from The Message. I personally have a hard time with The Message but I think it can be useful in some circumstances. Today it could have been a sermon in any church in America. Isaiah Chapter 1 from The Message

    1 The vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw regarding Judah and Jerusalem during the times of the kings of Judah: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. 2 Heaven and earth, you’re the jury. Listen to God’s case: “I had children and raised them well, and they turned on me. 3 The ox knows who’s boss, the mule knows the hand that feeds him, But not Israel. My people don’t know up from down. 4 Shame! Misguided God-dropouts, staggering under their guilt-baggage, Gang of miscreants, band of vandals – My people have walked out on me, their God, turned their backs on The Holy of Israel, walked off and never looked back. 5 “Why bother even trying to do anything with you when you just keep to your bullheaded ways?   18. I just cut down two trees. Not a big deal for most men. They were about 5″ in diameter, but needed to be cut up. It’s as much as the truck will hold to the landfill.
    i I discovered that there was nothing wrong with my chain saw, as I thought, it was the gas. The saw works fine.
    I won’t go into detail about how I discovered that it was bad gas.

  20. Coyotes like to go/stay underneath decks. I read that somewhere.

    They are very sneaky, which is why they’re such a successful species.

    Or I guess the more proper word for them is wily.

    A couple at the beach here were approached by 4 coyotes the other day (it was early in the morning, before dawn, they were walking w/dog and kid). They promptly picked dog and kid up and got into the car. Morning beach walk over.

    Two more days then I’m off work for a while, but lots to do next week. And the bathroom thing has me baffled at times, I’ve concluded that it’s simply too complicated and beyond my skills set for me to plan a bathroom remodel. How in the world do I pick out and order (in correct amounts) beadboard and tile? I haven’t even looked at light fixtures or towel racks, hooks, where to put them. As I said, baffling. I need a break.

    So I think I’ll just go back to cleaning out the spare room. Annoying work, but something I can wrap my simple mind around.

    A foundation inspector is coming Saturday morning and Carol wants me to take her to the library. I said maybe to the latter, depending on how long the inspection takes. But running away from this house for a day actually sounds appealing. I’m feeling mentally quite exhausted right now. And it doesn’t help that the house is in disarray with all the spare room work ongoing. I need to schedule another Salvation Army pickup soon before I trip over the bags accumulating by the door and knock myself out.

    Meanwhile, it feels like fall here. We will likely get more hot weather, but for now it’s nice and cool and overcast.

  24. Chas, I can explain the gas situation. DO NOT use regular gas with ethanol in ANY small engine where it may remain for any extended period of time. It will RUIN the motor. Use 100% gasoline–sometimes sold as Marine Fuel.
    I know from experience.

A little while ago, on my laptop, a thingie popped up (in its own tab but in a one of those smaller “warning” windows) that says that my computer is blocked & that I need to call (877) 764-1599 to let Microsoft fix it. Of course, this is a scam. I googled it & found out that if I called the number, they would take over my computer.

    But as it is now, even without calling, I cannot get out of it, & cannot even close the browser it is on (Google Chrome). I can still use Firefox on the laptop (which is what I’m doing now).

    I’ve tried googling about how to fix it, but some of the fixes are beyond my comprehension or don’t work. For instance, one fix involves going to the Chrome menu & disabling the add-on. But it won’t let me click on the menu, nor anything else.

    I did a Malwarebytes scan & an AVG scan, & neither one showed any threat.

    I’m going to try downloading Avast & doing a scan with that, which is one of the suggestions.

    If any of you know a way to get rid of this, please let me know. Feeling very frustrated right now.

  27. I forgot to mention. . .One of the fixes involves downloading & scanning with SpyHunter. I googled that, & found there is some controversy over whether or not it is spyware itself, so I didn’t want to risk trying it. 😦

    When we remodeled a much larger bathroom, I asked the tile guy for his recommendations once I picked the color (you’ve already made that choice). I asked the contractor to help me figure out the new organization (happy to help). I bought light fixtures on sale at Home Depot, a cabinet from Home Depot that I liked (I’m always looking for extra storage so I bought one that had three mirrored areas; if I could have found one that worked that went between studs, I would have chosen that).

    If you’re buying bead board (I love that look, but make sure it’s painted with KILZ mold-resistant paint before your final painting), ask the contractor for the measurements and the amount you need. He wants everything in place when he starts so, listen to what he has to say.

    Since you know the look you’re after, examine what Ms. Home Decorator with the great eye, already has sent. Narrow it down to two and ask the contractor which makes the most sense.

    You’d be surprised at the difference between two similar fixtures based on things you don’t know about since you’re not a contractor/electrician.

    I know you have a window, does that mean you do NOT need a fan or a heater? Consider silent ones that go into the ceiling to save space. We like ours.

    Hooks can go on the back of the door and a narrow bar perhaps behind the door on the wall.

    If you go to Home Depot with your ideas, consider making an appointment, and a designer can examine the options with you. It used to be free if you bought items from Home Depot, but even if it’s a small charge, it could be very helpful for you in the long run.

    Unless I’m misunderstanding, you’re looking for tile, bead board, a possible tub, a commode, a sink, towel racks/hooks and a light fixture.

    Do you need a window covering as well? I like these (expensive) blinds that can go up or down. With one small window it shouldn’t be a prohibitive cost and/or let it go without any covering if the window doesn’t look at anything.

    The person putting up the beadboard will tell you how much to order

    Bathroom is 5×6- 30SF of tile – what the tub covers. Also the guys working in that department at the home improvement store should be able to tell you how much you will need.
    Oh, and we haven’t discussed grout colors. Better hop right on over to that. 😉

  33. Kizzie: Press Ctrl + ALT + Delete on your keyboard at the same time. blue window comes up with choices. Choose “Start Task Manager” and find Google Chrome. Click it then the “End Program” choice. It closes Chrome and gets rid of the pesky pop-up that told you you had a problem. Those are nothing more than a way for a hacker to get into your computer.

  45. Love the drying racks…but no matter what I would put in our bathroom, my husband would continue to throw his towel over the shower rod….that’s just how he rolls….I, of course, go in, grab the towel and wash it…it’s gone, fini, caput, outahere…get a fresh towel!! 🙂

  47. I believe we have solved the window problem this afternoon. DJ is stuck right in the middle. Cheap real estate friend who wants her to put vinyl windows in the house and probably wants her to get an ugly bath/shower insert and ME who has champagne taste on a beer budget!!!!

  49. Then I figured out that all I had to do was restart the laptop, then uninstall Chrome. So that’s what I did.

    When I reinstalled it, my tabs came back like before. . .but so did the hacker thingie. So I uninstalled it again. I’ve switched to using Edge for my main browser, which I’ve heard is supposed to be more secure. And I am once again running scans.

  50. I’ve been out filming insect porn again. We have a praying mantis who has been hanging out in the mint, and I’d already determined it to be a female. I went out to see if there were any interesting butterflies or such, and there is the female mantis with two males on her back. One is mating with her, but I guess maybe the other one is hanging around in case the first dies of a heart attack or something. It’s a good thing the males are smaller, though, because it’s probably “enough” to have one male on her back!

    Thank you to all who prayed. I was nervous, so I didn’t feel like I played as I ought. However, the conductor said he isn’t supposed to tell people before all the auditions are over, but he said, “Keep your Mondays free.” That is when orchestra rehearsals are. Draw your own conclusions.

    6 Arrows, I played Bach’s Presto from his solo Sonata I and Faure’ Berceuse, Op. 16. He stopped me partway through both, but after the Berceuse he said “That was beautiful.” So very thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given. I have enjoyed the Latin, and I hope to take it another semester, but it has been so long since I played with other musicians.

And I think most people are going to have some degree of nervousness in an audition situation, so it’s likely a conductor or other adjudicator would consider that. A good foundation of musicality can and generally does still shine through, despite being nervous.

  57. College orchestra for me also met on Monday nights — 6:30-9:00. That was for full orchestra. Strings alone met on Thursdays, 6:00 -7:30.

    Seems like that was not that long ago, but it was in the early 1980s. I’m getting old!

  58. Speaking of getting old, tomorrow is my birthday. 😛

    I have joined MTNA (Music Teacher’s National Association), as well as my state group. (When you become a member at the national level, you’re automatically a member also at the state level. Well, you have to pay dues on both levels — the national level is the same for everyone, and the state dues vary by state. My state has one of the cheaper rates.)

    There is also the option of joining at a local level, and I chose that level as well. Tomorrow is our first meeting for the year (they meet September-May, it sounds like). I’m getting excited to meet with local piano teachers, and see what this group is all about.

    Kind of an interesting way to start the day of my 54th b/day. Can’t believe I waited this long to join in, but I’m glad I’ve decided to now.
