  2. Morning Chas. I guess everyone is spending their holiday resting.
    This Friday is a pupil free day or teacher work day, which will be nice.
    Then next week is the end of Term 1 and Friday is PNG Independence Day. So we have two four day weeks in a row. Then parent conferences.
    My aide today came up with a number song to help those who don’t know their numbers. YEAH!

  4. I’ve been up since about 6:30. Art went to the office, and my brother is here to help with the tree limb situation. He and I met the guy next door who assumed that my brother was Art. I had just complained yesterday to Art that would happen. Oh, well. Got that clarified. The neighbor said they could take care of what was on their side since his dad has a chain saw. They can repair their fence. But we need to get the rest of the tree checked out. I told him about already looking into it and about the company not having worker’s comp. So now I need to hurry up and get more estimates on that tree. At least I now know my newest neighbors. Not the best way to meet though. 😁

  5. I’ve been up since 4….dogs…ugh! The deer have been meandering through close to the house….that causes our dogs to bark and whine…and want to go outside…I just want to go back to sleep!!
    The flowers on the heade photo are beautiful…roses and dahlias…favorites of mine!!

    BTW- are footballs still made of pigskin? If so, would a vegetarian or vegan play the game? Maybe Keapernick should protest the oppression of pigs used to make the footballs that made him a millionaire.

  7. Good morning, Chas. My wife and I were up late last night watching the Texas game with my son and daughter-in-law and her family. I also got to play with their dog, Arnold Weaver. Arnold, though low energy, committed no gaffes and still has my support in the presidential election.

  8. Brother has to pull the big limb down from where it is hung up. He will use a come-along which is a wench contraption that I know nothing about. Please pray that it won’t hit our AC unit when it comes down. Thanks. I would put this on the prayer thread, but with its urgency on a holiday, I decided to post it here.

  10. QOD: We’ll be spending the day picking produce from the garden – so many tomatoes, hot peppers and cucumbers. I bit into one of the peppers yesterday to see how hot it was – I almost instantly started to get a migraine. I’m now wondering if some of my many headaches are caused by the salsa I eat 😦

    Second son called h I s dad a little before 5 this morning. Alarming since he is in California. There are issues and he needs help with them but I am not in a position to do anything. He has mommy issues because he remembers his mom not wanting him. His younger brother doesn’t.

    Kim, that is very sad about his mom not wanting him. I suppose you have great compassion for him since your mom chose alcohol over a normal family life. God gifts those who suffer with great compassion if they don’t remain bitter over their sense of loss. I pray his sense Of loss will be turned away from bitterness to compassion for others.

  15. Janice mentioned pulling limbs down. That’s what we did. Chuck came over to help and we pulled a vine down. Both of us fell when it finally released and I hit my head on a brick when i fell. No permanent damage, but it hurt at the time.
    I didn’t tell Elvera. She would say, “I hope it knocked some sense in you”. 😉
    I told you several times before. About 30 years ago, no one took care of the place and since then English ivy has been growing in the bunch of trees behind the house. There are vines that reach to the top. They really do. Some about an inch thick. I weigh 145#, Chuck weighs about 200. It took both of us to pull it down. When it turned loose, both of us tumbled. But the vine is down, the truck is loaded and Chuck has gone home and we are about to fix lunch. That wasn’t the last vine, BTW.

    I’m glad Texas won. I don’t have a thing for Longhorns, but I’m a fan of Charlie Strong. He, as I told you before, was defensive coordinator for the Gamecocks before going to Louisville.
    When he was there, the team won when the offense scored points.
    Last year, I made this comment to someone on a Monday. “If you score 35 points, you’re supposed to win.”
    But the Irish scored points on them.

  21. Donna….pedestal would look great and would give the bathroom an appearance of more space…we have one in the guest bathroom, which is very small…..I had toast at 4AM…now I am craving pancakes….hmmmmm 🙂

  23. Pedestal would give a more spare look, they’re also less expensive than the console sinks, at least the ones I’ve looked at online.

    Clearing out a bookcase in the spare bedroom, lots of books going out, keeping some.

    I have a lot of Christmas stuff in that room. 😦

    Rainy, drizzly day here again today. Better than drought. This is not usual because we usually get rain later in the day not in the morning.
    So happy to have a car and not have to walk the squishy muddy roads.

  25. I have thought of clearing out some Christmas things since they fill up a whole closet and now that son is all grown up, I don’t think I need it all.

    The chain saw is still buzzing. It has been an intensive labor day around my house. At least my brother is going to get some good firewood from all his effort.

    I have gotten extra exercise, but not nearly so much as my brother. I am busy keeping him hydrated and nourished. Art will bring home some dinner.

  28. Finally finished the 19 page questionnaire for all the Biddy publicity–13 months before the book releases! I thought I was prepared and yet the questions required a lot of work (and plenty of googling!)

    Will now go read and relax for 90 minutes before family time with the adorables!

    I wish I didn’t feel so tired . . . mentally exhausted yet again. 😦

  31. I, too, have been laboring on labor day.
    Chuck & I got a big vine down, We loaded the truck for me to take to the dump tomorrow. (Closed today, of course.) Cut the front yard. That sort of thing.

    And we stopped by the grocer to pick up a few things. $107 worth.

  36. We loved watching Wyatt Earp when we were kids….my favorite part of our watching was sitting on my Daddy’s lap and poking his belly evertytime the opening song said “Earp”….we would all giggle and laugh…sweet memory for three little girls <3.

  38. DJ, have you seen the movie, State of Play, starring Russell Crow and Ben Afleck? I thought maybe you’ve seen it because of the news/reporter/truth story. We just watched it. Very twisty and highly engaging political thriller mystery for anyone who likes that type of movie.

  39. So thankful that my brother got all that tree work done, and he gave me credit for the ingenious idea of opening the window and sawing a portion from there. All the guys in my family are admittedly smarter than I am, but sometimes I can be a creative problem solver by thinking outside the hat box.

  41. Chas, I remember her, and my husband told me earlier that she had died. I wasn’t surprised at her age, because she was middle-aged when I was a child. How I knew that, I’m not quite sure, but I did.
