  1. Mona Charen agrees with Jonathan Last that Republican elites should abandon Trump in an attempt to save the House and Senate.

I tend to disagree. I believe Confressional Republicans will have a better chance of surviving if Trump can stay within 5-6 points of Hillary. I am also concerned that if the Republican leadership breaks from Trump, more Trumpkins will fail to vote for Congressional Republicans.

    It is an interesting question.

  2. I poked a fun post on the daily thread about Hillary getting sick and Trump sympathetic and we are rid of both of them.
It’s a disaster when you wish disaster on people. I didn’t even wish that for Bill, nor Kerry, etc.
Before this all started, my motto was “No Clintons, No Bushes”. Jeb was the last on my list until Trump showed up. Then, Trump was two notches below Bush.
But I can’t help wanting to be rid of them.
I know what will happen if we get Hillary.
I’ll vote for Trump and see what happens.
I’m afraid Hillary will get it anyhow.
I pray for my grandkids every day.

  3. Chas, I don’t want to go Hal Lindsey on you, but I think there is a good chance our grandkids will live to see the Second Coming.

  4. Ricky @ 9:26. I agree, but I also believe that Christians will go through at least part of the tribulation. My prayer for them is for Spiritual protection. That’s all.

  5. Anybody shocked?

    Of course not….

    http://dailycaller.com/2016/08/25/judicial-watch-hillary-clinton-withheld-or-deleted-benghazi-related-documents/

“Among the 14,900 federal documents Hillary Clinton is said to have failed to turn over to the State Department in 2014 are some related to the Benghazi attacks, according to Judicial Watch.

The conservative watchdog group says that government lawyers admitted in court papers filed on Tuesday that the nearly 15,000 pages of Clinton records recovered by the FBI included some which “satisfied the [Benghazi-related] search terms.”

That suggests that Clinton withheld or deleted records which referred to the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks which left four Americans dead.

Clinton has claimed that a team of her aides searched through her email account using search terms for a variety of issues, including Benghazi.

And though Clinton has claimed that she turned over all of her work-related records, the FBI says that a forensic sweep of Clinton’s server led to the recovery of nearly 15,000 more documents. It is unclear if all of the documents were emails maintained on Clinton’s server or if they resided somewhere else.”
    ————————————-

Now if these were just her personal emails discussing yoga and Chelsea’s wedding, then why the need for such drastic measures? You know the answer, because she’s lying. Again.

    http://dailycaller.com/2016/08/25/hillary-clinton-deleted-emails-using-program-intended-to-prevent-recovery/

“Hillary Clinton’s team of aides and lawyers deleted emails from her private server using a software program intended to “prevent recovery” and hide traces of deleted files.

South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy revealed the information during an interview on Thursday on Fox News. Citing notes that FBI investigators took during their probe of Clinton’s private email server, Gowdy said that Clinton’s team used open source software called BleachBit to remove tens of thousands of emails from her server.

Gowdy said that the use of the program undermines Clinton’s claims that the emails she withheld from the State Department were innocuous. The former secretary of state has frequently said that the 30,000-plus emails she decided not to give the State Department in Dec. 2014 were about yoga routines and her daughter’s wedding plans.

Heather Samuelson, a longtime Clinton aide and former State Department official, oversaw the review of Clinton’s emails before they were given to the State Department. Clinton lawyer David Kendall and her former chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, oversaw the process.

The Clinton team’s use of BleachBit suggests nefarious motives, Gowdy suggested.

“If she considered them to be personal, then she and her lawyers had those emails deleted,” Gowdy said. “They didn’t just push the delete button, they had them deleted so even God couldn’t read them.””

  6. Well this would explain a lot about why what goes on at today’s college campuses seems a bit crazy…….. It’s ‘cuz it is.

    http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/08/25/new-concerns-mental-health-college-students-suicide/

“New concerns arise about the mental health of students on college campuses all across the country.

Dr. Gene Beresin, a psychiatrist and Executive Director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital, says 50% to 60% of college students have a psychiatric disorder.

“What I’m including in that is the use of substances, anxiety, depression, problems with relationships, break-ups, academic problems, learning disabilities, attentional problems,” says Dr. Beresin. “If you add them all up 50% doesn’t seem that high.”

Some undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) agree.”

  7. Chas, Maybe we are in the Tribulation. Christians in the Middle East, parts of Africa and elsewhere might think so.

  8. Ricky, you have made the point that I make when I discuss with Christians who, primarily on the basis of Rev 3:10, (but others also) believe that Christians will not endure tribulation.
My answer is “It is ok for us at the corner of Fourth and Washington to think there will be no tribulation. But explain that to the people in Iran, Syria, Burma, China and a multitude of other places in the world.”
Imagine this. It really happens somewhere:
Muslim jihadists capture you and your family. They say they are going to crucify you on a power pole and raise your children as Muslims.
It’s impossible to get worse than that.
    And it’s happening somewhere now.
But I believe that it will become worldwide before Jesus comes with a shout.
What will be his cry? I don’t know but I suspect.
    ENOUGH

I have speculated somewhat on the scenario. I don’t have the gift of prophesy. But in reading Zechariah 12, I see a battle that has never been fought. Nor can it happen as long as the Sixth fleet is in the Mediterranean. I see the world heading to this decisive battle. (It isn’t Armageddon.) Zech. 12:9 says that God will destroy the nations that come against Jerusalem. I worry that we may be on the wrong side. We could be if Obama/Hillary is in charge.

  9. I’m not surprised by the mental health statistics but I do wonder at their methodology — is it mental health issues over a period of time or did they pick one specific day or several days results averaged to get a snapshot of mental health as a daily issue. College does have its own issues in regards to anxiety, substance use, depression, etc. On the other hand, I do get annoyed with the overuse of mental health terms. Being sad does not mean you are depressed and being scared is not the same as anxiety. I know teens who suffer from depression and anxiety and its not to trivialized.

I see Gowdy is still trying to maintain his profile. The results one generates from an email search are bound to be different than from a forensic search. The frustration I have with my work email and its search engine tells me enough. The use of Bleachbit or anything similar is nothing more nefarious than using a home office paper shredder. Some people shed all their financial statements prior to placing them in recycling. Any public person is bound to be that careful with any personal information. Benghazi is a giant waste of taxpayer’s money. Imagine investigating every incident at a US consulate or embassy. If the Democrats were as thorough as Gowdy they would still be investigating Reagan and the Beirut bombing.

When I was still in academia, an avenue of investigation I thought was promising was to look at the idea of the apocalypse over time. Not exactly good post-grad work where you are told to focus on a small tight topic. For me though its fascinating — it occurs whenever the digits on the calendar are important to someone, or when events overwhelm people, or during periods of decline, etc. The literature around 999 makes Y2K look like child’s play. And the English 17th century is amazing. It even cuts across religious and cultural lines — Islam, Environmentalism, Marxism, science fiction, dystopia, etc. Its more western than eastern; eastern thought tends to be more cyclical than teleological but its still there.

  10. Tychicus, Chas and HRW, I am much less dogmatic about eschatology than I am about Trump. However, I tend to agree with Chas. I have trouble finding a description of a pre-Tribulation rapture in Scripture. I also distrust modern doctrines such as The Rapture that are only a couple of hundred years old.

  11. My cynical self says: Who benefits when there is a diagnosis of some mental problem?
    1. Drug companies;
    2. Docs and other health care professionals; and
    3. The students themselves, who often get extra time to take tests or other favorable treatment due to their “illness” or “disability”.

  12. Teen mental health issues are a serious concern — I’ve seen kids who couldn’t sleep for days, cut themselves, etc. Most teen drug use can be traced to a mental health issue — i.e. kids self medicate. Yes, for profit health care does take advantage of kids and their parents but that doesn’t mean the issue isn’t real.

  13. HRW, I would defer to you with your experience as an educator. My wife felt some of her students in middle school were over-medicated by overzealous parents and docs.

  14. Don’t get me wrong. Vast numbers of primary school aged boys are over medicated. And when we medicate prepubescent children the long term effects are not easily predictable. There are some primary children who need meds based on mental health issues but the rest need to look at diet and activity. However by the time they enter my classroom, puberty has started and the mental health issues are different especially with girls.
