  1. Though she gave it a good try, Hillary did not convince me she is worse than Trump. My wife said that since the other two worst possible choices were given their own conventions, Charles Manson probably deserves to have a convention as well.

  2. I think Hillary would be slightly worse than Obama. If Trump were to lose interest (which is likely) he would not be quite as bad as her. If Trump stays engaged, he would be worse than any of them. Think depression, pariah state, laughingstock of the world.

  3. Michelle mentioned this yesterday. She was correct.

And can I just say, these people are idiots.

    http://www.militarytimes.com/story/military/archives/2013/03/20/russian-ships-displayed-at-dnc-tribute-to-vets/78536950/

“On the last night of the Democratic National Convention, a retired Navy four-star took the stage to pay tribute to veterans. Behind him, on a giant screen, the image of four hulking warships reinforced his patriotic message.

But there was a big mistake in the stirring backdrop: those are Russian warships.

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

These were the very Soviet-era combatants that Nathman and Cold Warriors like him had once squared off against.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.”

But that’s not even the worst of it. Here’s how they treated an American hero, and his reading the names of his dead fellow soldiers. Classless to say the least.

Clueless and classless. That about sums up the DNC and Democrats in general.

  4. And how did they keep the arena full tonight? By not letting people leave in protest.

“Here’s a video noting the difficulty the CA Bernie folks are having because the DNC apparently has taken some of their seats to be reserved for seat fillers. The delegate on the video is also claiming that there are white noise machines above the Bernie areas to prevent Bernie folks from being heard.”

“Finally, in order to prevent a walkout during Hillary’s speech, they plan on locking delegates in so they can’t get out.”

  5. The Dept. of Injustice strikes again. All under the watchful eye of Obama, who oversaw the whole operation.

    http://dailysignal.com/2016/07/28/obama-administration-knew-of-irs-scandal-2-years-before-congress-but-did-nothing/

“Recently unearthed documents reveal that the FBI knew the IRS was unfairly targeting groups because of their conservative politics two years before Congress even heard about the agency’s misconduct.

The revelation has already added fodder to the conservative case to impeach the current IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.

Almost 300 pages of documents released Thursday and obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act confirm that the IRS subjected conservative groups to increased scrutiny beginning in 2011.

Even though the FBI uncovered the scandal in 2011, the documents show, the Department of Justice chose not to act.”

  7. Another for the clueless and classless list. Seems the Navy is about to name a ship after a pedophile. Seems fitting given the new rules on gay and trans sailors, no? Don’t worry though, other miscreants will get one too.

Navy to Name Ship After Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk

“The Navy is set to name a ship after the gay rights icon and San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, according to a Congressional notification obtained by USNI News.

The July 14, 2016 notification, signed by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, indicated he intended to name a planned Military Sealift Command fleet oiler USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO-206). The ship would be the second of the John Lewis-class oilers being built by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, Calif.

The Secretary of the Navy’s office is deferring releasing additional information until the naming announcement, a Navy official told USNI News on Thursday.

Mabus has said the John Lewis-class – named after civil rights activist and congressman Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) – would be named after civil rights leaders.

Other names in the class include former Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren whose court ruled to desegregate U.S. schools, former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, women’s right activist Lucy Stone and abolitionist and women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth.”

“Maybe they were happy it was over, or maybe they were celebrating “history” being made — as they repeated all week — by their preferred candidate.

Regardless, cameras captured CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer and Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger drinking wine and dancing with delegates as “Sweet Caroline” played over the loud speakers at the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention.”

  9. It’s really quite amazing how far left the Democratic party is right now. It makes McGovern in ’72 look like a centrist. Remarkable.

A good number of longtime Democrats can’t feel very much at home in this new, very left party.

  11. Be afraid: The Clinton-Trump general election begins

    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/be-afraid-the-clinton-trump-general-election-begins-226406
    __________________________

… as the 102-day general election starts, the reality is that both parties, saddled with two of the most unpopular presidential nominees ever, are bracing for one of the ugliest and most divisive races in modern history. And with Trump’s penchant for the unpredictable, a contest that has already stretched the boundaries of traditional American political discourse is unlikely to become more civil.

For all the talk of hope and optimism in Philadelphia, fear remains the most potent emotion stirring the base — of both parties. President Barack Obama warned pointedly of “homegrown demagogues” this week in the same breath as “fascists” and “jihadists.” …

… the back-to-back conventions portrayed two parties that seemed at times as though they were speaking to and about entirely different countries. …

  12. I don’t think the DNC meant to be disrespectful–though who knows? Part of the issue is they have, in general, so little experience with military members. One of my politically active relatives was elated to be able to say she had a relative serving in the Navy–it gave her some “street cred,” when she needed it.

She’s never said a bad word about the military and enjoyed visiting us at duty stations.

But, when you support violence against the police and denounce military engagement, some of that may have to do with a misunderstanding of the roles both have in civil society.

President Obama called in the Navy SEALS to get Captain Phillips away from the Somali pirates–but was so aghast they killed the pirates, he never used power like that again, except maybe with OBL. That’s part of the reason we’ve been on the run for so many years. Iraq, etc. has truly befuddled them and they misunderstand how the military can best be used.

Why don’t they listen to their military advisors?

You got me. Some of them know very well and lots of them have been very frustrated over the years if the military newspapers are to be believed.

    Sad.

(Why is not to say, BTW, that the military members I know liked Bush’s action all that much either).

  17. Trump — I don’t think he will lose interest entirely if elected nor do I think he will clean house. Instead he will govern for himself — the European parallel for Trump is not Hitler nor even Mussolini rather its Berlusconi, the Italian media mogul and later PM who used political office to retroactively pass laws preventing criminal and civil charges. Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns and his ongoing ligation issues and IRS problems lead me to predict the first domestic policy he will pursue will be to protect himself from convictions and judgments.

Ships etc — I’m sure some young intern was told to create a backdrop for the gentleman’s speech. He or she probably used google images to find a nice picture and relied on google to properly identify them. He or she then put it in the slide show, the speaker looked at it quickly and then proceeded.

DNC — I’m sure some overly controlling Clinton staffer would have loved to lock the doors etc to ensure the facade of unity however I’m also sure the Wells Fargo staff would never allow such a blatant violation of the fire code. In the end, most Bernie supporters will vote for Hilary if only because Trumps is such a horrid alternative. Even my nieces who usually vote Republican from the top of the ticket to the bottom won’t vote for Trump (and they voted for Steve King in Iowa)

Clinton — Clinton is a centrist and fairly vacuous in her position — if it gets her elected she’s in favour of it. The party itself is also fairly centrist — although the Bernie supporters managed to push some economic reforms in the platform, however, the big ones such as strong bank reform and anti-TPP aren’t negotiable by the Clinton camp. They will remain corporate lackeys — hence I can’t fathom any notion they are leftist (in the economic sense). In terms of social ideas, one might call them leftist but more accurately they are libertarians. After 30 some years of libertarian influence in economics, its not surprising that social policy has become libertarian. The religious right alliance with the business republicans was strange in that the latter wanted less gov’t which eventually meant the gov’t would not interfere in issues of morality.

Media — the late night hosts I use to get my news were fairly consistent in their description of the two conventions — one was full of fear and anger whereas the other was generally cheerful, hopefully etc. Media absorb the general atmosphere and act accordingly.

Obama — He rarely used the SEALS because he preferred drones. His use of drones has been a major issue on the left. In this way, Obama continued past US policy of military intervention without actually using the traditional military.

Names — Perhaps the Navy should stick to the names of states, cities and former presidents.

  18. I forgot to include my warning to conservatives thinking of supporting Trump viewing him as a useful tool to implement their own agenda, for example appointing supreme court justices. They will do well to read the career of Franz von Papen. I normally abhor Nazi analogies but here is an illustration of what can go wrong when principled conservatives make a deal with a right wing populist —

    Battleships were named for states.
Aircraft carriers were named for battle sites.

  20. Conservatives, in the left’s view, are always either (a) angry or (b) afraid.

I find that to be not true of those I know. But it’s a stereotype that keeps being brought up over and over again.

Of course, I suppose the left is pretty much always (a) hysterical or (b) in a panic.

    So there you go.

  21. HRW, I have always thought Trump was more comic than sinister but the parallels with early 1930s Germany are there:
    1. The nationalism
    2. The demagoguery
    3. Rampant perversion in the culture
    4. The scapegoating
    5. Angst about economic issues
    6. The decline of the church as a moral force
    7. The demagogue’s appeal to an element of church leadership
    8. The rise of the radical left as a reason to support the demagogue
    9. Appeal to the uneducated lower middle class
    10. Socialist promises of the demagogue
    11. The cult of personality
    12. The amorality
    13. Use of innovative campaign techniques
    14. The effective bullying skills of the demagogue
    15. The insanity of the demagogue.

  22. The parallels are there but I’m not willing to be that pessimistic. I’ll stick to my optimitic prediction he will resemble Berlusconi and use the US govt for his own purposes including retriactive legislation to protect himseld from the IRS. After that I think he will make nice to Putin for personal benefit. Thats an optimistic view of a Trump presidency.

Generally speaking my consevatives are not full of fear and anger but they vote for politicians who are. And they are generally more pessimistic about the future.

I have very few friends to the left of me. And the distiguishing charascteristic between me and them is their optimism.
