  1. Last night I was driving to pick up supper and my XM radio was on CNN’s convention coverage. The first speaker was a Mexican woman. She did OK for a while and then she just started cursing and speaking Spanish. The next guy gets up and starts: I’m ________ and I’m an alcoholic.

At that point, I immediately switched to NBA Radio.

Trump is so bad that one assumes the Democrats can’t actually be worse. They probably are.

  2. Did anyone else feel the pain when they listened to an obviously too old to sing it, Paul Simon, murder Bridge Over Troubled Water? One of my personality traits is that I often feel embarrassed for other people. Even people I don’t know. Last night I was embarrassed for him. Yes, it was that bad.

Ricky, I am sympathetic to illegals like the one who was speaking last night, but she has been here since she was 4 years old. She is a college graduate. Sometime in the last 10 years or so she could have gone through the naturalization process. I think illegal aliens being here is a slap in the face to those who have applied and jumped through the hoops to become naturalized citizens. It has been my experience that those who go through the process are better educated out our government and love our country more than those of us who were born here.

  3. I think there may have been more than one Mexican. The one who was cursing and speaking Spanish was a Congresswoman.

  4. Interesting that the Dems chose to lead with a parade of law breakers. Fits, that for sure. No border fences or walls to keep out illegals, no voter ID for voting, but their hypocrisy on full display, they fence off Bernie supporters and require photo ID to enter. The fence is holding, for now.

“Last month we reported that Hillary Clinton would make her acceptance speech call for “bridges, not walls” from inside a no-scale fence.

Yesterday, the original version of that bridge fence was proven to be not enough:

As a result, the “bridges, not walls” convention is reinforcing the bridge fence:”

  5. Last night they covered illegals, gays, and Trump, but none mentioned the elephant in the room that their candidate brought with her. If you pretend it doesn’t exist, things are much easier.

    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/did-democrats-mention-islamic-state-convention-226202

“Republicans’ claim that Democrats did not mention terrorism or ISIL on the first night of the Democratic National Convention is correct, Politifact said Tuesday morning.

Following Monday night’s speeches, Republicans blasted the Democrats for a lack of focus on terrorism from the 61 speakers.

“Based on our searches of C-SPAN closed-captioning text, Congressional Quarterly transcripts and other video archiving services, we couldn’t find any speaker who mentioned “ISIS,” “Islamic” “terror,” “terrorist,” or “terrorism” during the first day of the convention,” Politifact wrote.”

  6. Trump is right about one thing. Law and order needs to be restored, and those who flaunt it dealt with. This is why I refuse to watch when they parade out their law breaking illegal supporters. They’re making a mockery of our laws and openly breaking them, and it’s not just the illegals, it’s their enablers as well.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/07/26/the-democrats-manage-to-violate-federal-immigration-law-yet-again-at-their-convention/

“At this point, stories about Democrats breaking the law are quickly falling into the Dog Bites Man category, but this one is still worthy of note because of the national (and indeed international) platform where it was featured. There was a lengthy list of speakers at the DNC yesterday, each offering up red meat to the progressive base and pleas for unity with the disaffected supporters of Bernie Sanders, but one individual is receiving attention for precisely the wrong reasons. Well before the headliners took the stage, the convention was addressed by Francisca Ortiz and her daughter Karla. She was addressing the subject of immigration – always a winner at Democratic gatherings – but Francisca comes to the subject from a background of specific expertise. She’s currently in the country illegally and is ignoring a standing deportation order. (In case Donna Brazil hasn’t heard, that’s still against the law.)

At Liberty Unyielding, J.E. Dyer highlights some of her background.

With the Democrats having put the first day of their national convention to bed, Dennis Michael Lynch notes that they’ve racked up two violations of Section 8 U.S. Code 1324.

What did they do to accomplish that? They knowingly hosted two adult illegal aliens as featured speakers at the convention.

One is a woman named Francisca (no last name given), who appeared at the speaker’s podium with her young daughter Karla. Francisca is currently ignoring a deportation order from the U.S. Government. Francisca and Karla are likely to be the pair featured in this June 2016 article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The other is a young woman named Astrid Silva, who came to the U.S. illegally at the age of 4. Now in her mid-20s, Silva has been working on a bachelor’s degree at Nevada State College.
Dyer is covering two of the speakers, but Astrid Silva is apparently here legally at the moment. She was previously an illegal, but now supposedly has a DACA work permit so it’s not as much of a big deal. Ortiz, on the other hand, is openly defying the law and is subject to arrest, prosecution and deportation. And yet somehow she had a prominent speaking slot on the national stage at the Democrats’ big party.”

  7. And in the “news you won’t see covered by the majority of media outlets” category…….

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/07/26/texas-da-withdraws-all-remaining-charges-against-cmps-daleiden-over-planned-parenthood-videos/

“Let’s call this what it is — belated recognition that Harris County prosecutors abused their power in indicting pro-life activists for undercover investigative journalism targeting a favored political power. One month after a Houston judge dismissed a misdemeanor indictment for being too flawed to pursue, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was supposed to defend felony indictments this morning in court. Instead, prosecutors folded:

The Harris County District Attorney’s office on Tuesday dismissed all charges against anti-abortion activists who secretly videotaped Planned Parenthood officials in Houston.

David Robert Daleiden and Sandra Merritt were charged with tampering with a governmental record, for using a fake identification to gain access to the facility. In a surprise move before a hearing on the legitimacy of the indictment, prosecutors dismissed the charges.

Deleiden and his attorneys claimed victory for the anti-abortion movement, saying they were satisfied with the decision.

What. A. Shock. The DA couldn’t even make the argument that the indictment was legitimate, at least not with a straight face. Instead of dragging this out another month, Harris County prosecutors should have dropped all charges last month when the judge tossed out the misdemeanors. Instead, they forced Daleiden and Merritt to deal with a clearly political indictment intended to embarrass and silence them, rather than speak out about what their investigation discovered.”

PHILADELPHIA — California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) says the presidential election is looking “very uncertain,” and Hillary Clinton should be worried.

Brown, who arrived in Philadelphia on Tuesday, said recent polls show the race between Clinton and Donald Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, is “very tight, very tight.” …

… Media pundits and political handicappers have given Trump little chance of winning in November.

Mother Jones, a liberal-leaning publication, wrote on July 7: “Clinton’s poll numbers look nearly unbeatable.”

But opinions are shifting in the wake of several polls showing Trump getting a strong bump after the GOP convention in Cleveland.

Political analyst Nate Silver, who correctly forecast the 2012 presidential election, now gives Clinton a 53.2 percent chance of winning and Trump a 46.8 percent chance.

Clinton has seen her lead erode in recent weeks following the damning FBI report that criticized her handling of classified information while secretary of State as “extremely careless.”

Republicans spent much of their convention last week trying to vilify her, and survey data show that strategy is having an impact …

  9. Clinton and Trump are now equally unpopular.

That just about sums up 2016

    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/hillary-clinton-and-donald-trump-are-now-equally-unpopular/

    ______________________________

Both are trying to be considered the lesser of two evils. But it’s not clear which candidate is more disliked by Americans overall. The RealClearPolitics average has Clinton with a 38 percent favorable rating overall compared to Trump’s 36 percent. Gallup has them both at 37 percent, with Clinton falling from 40 percent earlier this month (possibly because of criticism by the FBI over her handling of her State Department emails) and Trump rising from 31 percent. This equal popularity (or unpopularity) is reflected in the horserace polls, which now show a near-tie. …

  10. I’m excited to see how well 3rd parties do in this year’s presidential election. I can’t imagine a more fitting year than this to go that route — or at least seriously consider it.

“Vice President Joe Biden, making a brief visit on Tuesday to the floor of the Democratic National Convention, put his best spin on the divisions on display, going so far to argue there isn’t “any fracture in the party.”

“I do not think there’s any fracture in the party,” Biden told a gaggle of reporters, who asked him about the protests from supporters of Bernie Sanders. “I wish we could put something on every Sanders delegate walking into a booth. If we were able to find out, I’d bet you everything I have that hardly anyone is going to pull the lever for Trump. Come on man. You kidding me?””

  12. Well 6 at this point they’re polling at 13% for Johnson, 9% for Stein. Even combined, there’s no winning option there. Spoiler maybe, but for which candidate, who knows? I think they both lose about the same either way, But while I can see Sanders supporters voting Trump as a thumb in the eye to the rigged system and Hillary, I can’t see those on the right actually voting for Hillary. They know what she is, and they have standards Sanders fans don’t bother with. Either way, it’s gonna be interesting to watch. 🙂

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/07/26/shouting-breaks-out-at-democratic-unity-breakfast/

“Last night Bernie Sanders did his best to throw his support behind Hillary Clinton but it seems not all of his supporters are ready to fall in line. Tuesday morning the Texas delegation held a unity breakfast that descended into shouting and chaos after a Sanders supporter took the stage and condemned Clinton. From Politico:

A Texas delegation breakfast Tuesday morning broke out in a screaming match as a Bernie Sanders delegate told the crowd he was “condemning our presumptive nominee.”

The comment came during a unity effort, during which the delegate, Russell Lytle, was expected to talk about the Sanders revolution and then segue into ways to work to elect Democrats across the state.

Chaos erupted after his comment as Hillary Clinton supporters and delegates booed the speaker and chanted Clinton’s name.
CBS reporter Jack Fink was in the room. He tweeted out this video which shows a group of Sanders supporters on stage as the speaker appears to be defending Sanders’ phone banking and suggesting it will continue:”

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/26/politics/julian-assange-dnc-email-leak-hack/index.html

“Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said Tuesday his whistleblowing website might release “a lot more material” relevant to the US electoral campaign.

Assange was speaking in a CNN interview following the release of nearly 20,000 emails stolen from the Democratic National Committee by suspected Russian hackers.

However, Assange refused to confirm or deny a Russian origin for the mass email leak, saying Wikileaks tries to create ambiguity to protect all its sources.

“Perhaps one day the source or sources will step forward and that might be an interesting moment some people may have egg on their faces. But to exclude certain actors is to make it easier to find out who our sources are,” Assange told CNN.”

  16. AJ, 7:09, no kidding it will be interesting. 😉

Wow — Johnson polling at 13%, Stein at 9%. In 2012, they got 0.99% and 0.36% of the vote, respectively.

I’ve discussed with local friends and family on a few occasions in past election years that our family has voted for CP candidates, and aside from a few polite smiles and nods, there wasn’t much other reaction. 😉

This year, though, I’m seeing a lot more interest in looking at alternatives to Ds and Rs among some formerly very staunch Republicans I know, including my parents and brother. And one of my sisters-in-law and her husband and son are big Bernie supporters, so it will be interesting to see what they will do. They can’t stand Hillary.

Fascinating year, and for some reason, I keep thinking, is Jesus coming back before we even get to the election? It is often on my mind that we might never arrive at November 8, 2016!

  17. I’m sitting in the Reykjavik airport with time to kill so where to begin….

It appears Trump has hit the fear button and pushed it into overdrive. The simple fact is violent crime is at a post wwii low. Thete is no bogeyman. Fox appears to play along asking why the DNC hasnt mentioned these issues on the first day…..perhaps they wish to start with a message of hope instead of fear.

The Sanders supporters will mostly fall in line. And in fact Sanders did the democrats a favor by creating some enthusanism where there was none. If the Bernie folks continue into the midterms the Republicans will be in trouble as they normally rely on the lack of motivation traditional democrats have for voting.

I’m not a conspiracy bluff but I don’t think its a coincidence that the wikileaks are coming from eastern Europe. Putin would much rather deal with Trump (or if he gets bored Pence). George Will suggests Trump is in hock to the oligarchs hence the lack of tax returns and the Russian support of Trump. A bit of a stretch but Trump is notorious for not paying his bills.

Speaking of which, the cute girls who sang his praises a few months back are suing him for lack of payment. They were supposed to receive 2000 but were told the exposure and a merch table should be good enough. There was no merch table provided. At a layer event, they weren’t even paid for travel expenses. Stiffing little kids.

  18. But the question is what 3rd party (or parties) would be able to be broad enough to actually form a strong coalition of interests that could win elections? They mostly seem to me like niche groups that represent little more than special-interest slices of the electorate on either side.

I do think both parties are in for possibly reformation or rebooting after this election, regardless of who winds. Whether that will result in something better or not remains to be seen.

  19. I think the question about Sanders votes has more to do with turnout. Many of them aren’t regular voters, apparently, so … ? Mostly no-shows in November?

  20. Saw an intetesting little quip; Trump stood on stage with 5 kids from 3 wives and the family values party cheered. Now if Clinton did that…..

A rather frank obsevation of a central point of the republican campaign ….if the evangelical right supports Trump, the Republicans will never take their votes and ideas seriously.

  22. HRW, You are right about the “Religious Right”. I always considered myself a part of that group. However, once many of our “leaders” supported the reprobate Trump, no one can ever take us seriously again. Like Chas said, “The ten righteous men in Sodom are voting for Trump.”

That may be just as well. Christians need to focus on their families and their churches. We never were much good at politics.
